About the Artist
About Elisa Korenne (pronounced "Eh-LEE-suh kuh-REN" emphasis like "Sophia Loren"):

With her rich voice, smoldering live performances, and elegant songcraft, Elisa Korenne stands out even in the high caliber New York City music scene. Elisa blends husky vocals, engaging lyrics, and catchy melodies to create a raw, moody sound with a rock flair. Her songwriting skills have earned awards from Sisters Folk Festival, Great American Song Contest, Song of the Year, Song Prize, and the Philadelphia Songwriters' Project. In any venue, she brings edge, energy, and the rare ability of consummate performers to keep an audience riveted.

Elisa has over fifteen years of experience performing and public speaking, that ranges from music and theater to the Yale Debate team and international conference presentations. For four years starting in 1996, Elisa took a break from performing music while she earned her master's degree in international development and founded an international technology nonprofit called Geekcorps. In early 2000, she reconnected with her first love, music, and began to write a new repertoire to reflect her musical and personal development. Performing regionally and internationally, Elisa has created a sound that combines vocal intensity, sharp, contemplative lyrics, and a driving groove. After a variety of EPs, Favorite is Elisa's debut full-length album.

Product Description
Where you'll stop when browsing the radio dial.

Ten original edgy and elegant songs that highlight Elisa's songwriting skill and rich alto voice. The album ambles confidently through rock, pop, and folk, with touches of jazz, soul, circus-eclectic, and a capella. Varied subjects and stylings show off Elisa's broad array of influences.

Song stylings range from grooving rock tunes, such as "Find My Strength," "Road Trance," "Marrow," and the alt-country influenced "Favorite," to heartfelt ballads such as the power-ballad "About" and the soon-to-be jazz standard "Flirt with Me."

Song subjects include the true story of a 19th century prostitute in "Butte," the tale of a boy who eats lightbulbs in "Andy the Lightbulb Eater," and an Irish a capella ballad from the perspective of the object of unrequited love in "Instead."

Produced by Daniel A. Weiss, who produced Ina May Wool's award-winning Crack It Open. Performers include Billy Ward from Joan Osborne's band on drums, Joseph Quigley from Lisa Loeb's band on bass, and the folk singer-songwriter Joe Jencks on a capella harmonies in "Instead."

Favorite,Elisa Korenne,Edgy and Elegant Music,Folk,Pop,Where you'll stop when browsing the radio dial: edgy and elegant rock, pop, and folk, with touches of jazz, soul, circus-eclectic, and a capella.

5 out of 5 stars Great Children's CD.......2007-07-12

I grew up listening to these songs on an old record that my parents had. We lost the record and I searched for these songs for my new little baby girl. I am so happy that I found it on Amazon and that my baby girl gets to grow up with the same classics that I did when I was a kid. The CD is wonderful and the price was even better.

5 out of 5 stars Aww the good old times!.......2007-06-18

I grew up with this music!! My dad bought the records when I was little, YES records! Im 25yrs old so this was the late the 80's when he purchased it. Now I have the opportunity to introduce this to my children! I'm so glad they are continuing to sell this music because I loved it as a child. I still remember taking the records out and asking my parents to play it.

3 out of 5 stars Walt Disney CD: Characters Do Not Sing.......2007-06-06

I'm a little disappointed. I purchased this CD thinking The Disney Characters would be singing the songs. My son was all excited when I showed him the CD and asked me to play it. When he heard it he said "this is not Mickey Mouse". He was very sad. The songs on this CD are sung by children. The CD is ok.

1 out of 5 stars Garbage.......2007-05-13

Really very boring and campy - I can't bear to listen and wish I could return it. In fact all of the Disney Lullabuys and children's songs were downright horrible. Stick with Baby Einstein, Rock a Bye Baby and Just for Kids - Curious George is great too

4 out of 5 stars Yeah!.......2007-03-04

Much better than all of those other randon baby CD's where all of the songs sound exactly the same and sound like they are sung by chipmunks!!

Lullabies lend themselves to woozy re-creations, a sort of endless repetition that flags under the weight of the concept (putting kids to bed for their much-needed sleep) and the lack of weight accorded to the music. You might expect a Disney lullaby collection to be on a par with the most mediocre collections, but this one is really a fine set. The tunes are standard--from the famous "Brahms Lullaby" to "All the Pretty Little Horses"--but they're uniformly excellent and creative, staying within the realm of acoustic music that sounds and feels organic. These are Disney-related tunes, for the most part, so "Stay Awake" is here, as is the whimsical "Sleep, Daddy, Sleep." Musically, the set is varied, steering away from a repetition of instrumentation or delivery. That makes it easily entertaining enough for back-to-back listens, which any parent will be asked for with this collection. --Andrew Bartlett

3 out of 5 stars An ok Night time cd.......2007-07-14

I had this a long time ago when my now 5 yr old was an infant. I LOVED it then....not so much now. U can find alot of these songs by different artists on iTUnes

5 out of 5 stars We LOVE this CD.......2007-07-10

A few years ago someone made us a copy of this tape and my kids played it over and over again until the tape broke. Thank goodness for CDs, because this one gets much use!

The only drawback (and it is not really that big a deal) is that my girls tend to sing along to the songs when they should be focusing on going to sleep! :)

I would not hesitate to recommend this one to my family and friends! We are very happy with this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful !!!!.......2007-06-12

I spent quite some time searching for the perfect lullaby cd for my newborn daughter. I wanted lyrics. I purchased this one, and I LOVE IT!!! The songs are great, syrupy sweet. I listen to it at least twice daily and am not tired of it. My daughter already recognizes it when I turn it on, and it is a part of our bedtime routine. Wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing memories of the past.......2007-04-14

I just can't believe this is still available! this is awsome!I had the cassette version for my son (20years ago) and still have it but no cassette player to play it (every this is cd now) so I'm going to definately order this as I have grandkids now and this worked a treat getting my kids off to sleep when they were little ......very soothing and has always stayed eatched in my memory.

5 out of 5 stars the best one i've got.......2007-03-27

I have always been drawn to baby lullabies, but this is my favorite cd. I love every song it has in it. I buy this cd for all my best friend's children and they all love them too.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Why are you waiting?.......2006-12-16

Ashkenazy is one of the titans of Chopin. Davidovich and Arrau are the other two. They're all you need. Get Davidovich for the concertos, (inlcuding the Krakowiak--Op 14), Arrau for the nocturnes and a few micscellaneous pieces. Ashkenazy handles everything else.

(Btw, Ashkenazy vs. Davidovich re. the impromptus is a toss up. But since the impromptus aren't on this disc, you can make that critical decision another time.)

Ashkenazy's scherzo #2 (op. 31) IS the best. Period. Other interpretations that your favorite classical music station may substitute are downright lame.

The rest are basically sublime. The first and 4th ballades will send shivers up your spine by Vlad's sheer technical ability. His artistry is second to none.

5 out of 5 stars Chopin: Favorite Piano Works.......2006-07-25

An excellent complilation of Chopin works which includes 3 of the pieces I am currently learning. Definitely has encouraged me to improve my piano skills and allow me to better appreciate his style of music.

5 out of 5 stars Chopin: Favorite Piano Works (London 2 CD).......2006-02-24

Beautifully done 2 CD of Chopin works. I've played it every weekend since I got it, loving every track. It's well performed and recorded, and is an excellent collection for anyone interested in Chopin or his adopted homeland of Poland. And, of course, you can't often go wrong with the London Label.

5 out of 5 stars chopins Mazurkas.......2005-08-08

this is a wonderful collection of the mazurkas but Ashkenazy plays a lot of them too fast my music teacher played these with more pathos he seems like he cant get done fast enough with some of them some introductions should be slower with more feeling otherwise all the mazurkas i wanted are in this disc just wish i had got better artist like Claude Arrau

5 out of 5 stars REST FOR THIS WEARY SOUL.......2005-03-09

On vinyl I owned Ashkenazy's complete recordings of Chopin's piano works. Prior to purchasing this CD of what I call "highlights from Vladimir's Chopin Recordings", I had not replaced them in this format. What a joy it is to hear Vladimir Ashkenazy play these works again. I'm reminded of how much I loved his playing of Chopin on vinyl looking forward to each "new release" with great anticipation. Being, what is referred to, as a "senior citizen" , Chopin's music means ever so much to me offering rest for this weary soul. Vladimir Ashkenazy's performances on these discs are first rate and ones I truly love. As a previous reviewer pointed out, this compellation is a bargain-great price, great music, great sound and great performances by a master of Chopin's music.

If you love Chopin, as I do, buy this recording it will sooth your soul as only great music can.

5 out of 5 stars Great Songs, Great Memories.......2007-07-31

This is a great collection just for the songs themselves. Even better, the whole song is included, not just a verse or maybe two. And the lyrics are clear, important for aging memories. I look forward to sharing the whole set with my grandchildren.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun!.......2007-07-18

My daughter (11) and nephews (8, 1) all love this CD. The older kids have fun singing & dancing with the baby, and the baby loves to listen to the CD by himself as well.

Great songs on this CD. Nice variety, wonderful singers. My grandchildren want it on in the car every time we go out. Lots of old favorites that I like too.

4 out of 5 stars Great songs, but this collection has many country-style songs.......2006-12-02

This CD is tolerable. We own Volume 1 and love it. I bought this one specifically for one of the songs it contains.

My son loves it, but a note to parents - this CD has a country music feel to it.

5 out of 5 stars Fun Sing-Along CD for everyone!.......2007-07-13

This compilation of children's sing-along songs is well put together. The male voice who sings these is sprite and chipper. Much better than a group of off-key kids singing children's songs! I thoroughly enjoy listening to this and singing them with my kids.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful product.......2007-05-20

My baby loves this music CD. It was very nicely made and produced.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-01-07

I have all four volumes and think they're all good, but volume 1 is the best.

5 out of 5 stars Great Traditional Music.......2005-08-18

I had the Disney Songtape edition of this album when I was a kid. I have always love the Disneyland Children's Sing-Along Chorus on this album. I also had volumes 1 and 2 on record. When i got older i realized that Larry Groce was the lead singer. He had a hit in the 70's called Junk Food Junkie on the Dr. Demento show. I reciently bought all 4 volumes on CD. I like to listen to them while I work. He also did the Disneyland Little Golden Books Read-Alongs. That is Where "Why Do The Make Things Like They Do" comes from and "Thumbelina" On Volume 2. I wish the re-issued the series with the the Original Record Cover Pictures. They had the Disney Characters acting out the songs.

This is great for Disney fans because it gets away from the common Mickey Mouse songs. I love them at 23 years old.

3 out of 5 stars Not the best for sing along.......2005-01-08

This album is not as much fun to sing along to as volume 1. We will probably listen to this album very rarely as I am already looking for another to replace it.

Excellent transaction. Would not hesitate to buy again from this seller. Product was delivered promptly and as described.

5 out of 5 stars good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-02-22

5 out of 5 stars TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

3 out of 5 stars TV themes.......2006-07-05

Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

After her 1999 gold release, Forget About It, Alison Krauss has found additional success as part of the soundtrack to O Brother, Where Art Thou?--an album that's done more to advance the cause of bluegrass since Bill Monroe first conjured the music out of the hills of western Kentucky. While Forget About It showcased the more contemporary part of Krauss's musical equation and the O Brother soundtrack spotlighted the more traditional, New Favorite combines the approaches in balancing the softer sounds with the rougher-edged material. Krauss particularly shines on the soulful title tune of love gone cold, her vocal--softer than a cloud and more intimate than a midnight kiss--threatening to steal your breath away. However, it's mostly the older sounds that you'll remember from this largely somber album, one that telegraphs uncertainty, doom, and the promise of bloodshed throughout much of the repertoire. On "Momma Cried," a song about a child-snatching that tore a family asunder, Dan Tyminski's tenor vocals rise above a wailing Dobro, a driving banjo, and a thumping, anchoring bass to convey unspeakable pain. Too many of the pop-minded songs fall flat in comparison, but although this may not be the group's best effort overall, no other crossover bluegrass band begins to meet their mark either musically or emotionally, as New Favorite so amply shows. --Alanna Nash

5 out of 5 stars Do NOT pass this up.......2007-06-18

I never knew I liked Bluegrass until I heard Alison Kraus and Union Station. Her voice is clear and sweet yet she can roar like a lion. The banjos and other instruments are played like they're on fire. I love this music!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-05-17

Great mix of bluegrass banjo, fiddle, and Alison. Even my two year old loves the banjo. Very well put together.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome, as they usually are!!.......2007-05-10

Of course it's a great CD. If you don't know them then you should and start your collection today.

4 out of 5 stars Nicely done, if a little slow...but I like slow.......2007-04-12

This is a very good album by AK+US. As I'm not a tried and true country/bluegrass fan, I prefer to hear Alison sing the slower ballads, usually. Two favorites on this album are "Daylight" and "Stars," both of which are just gorgeous. "Let Me Touch You for Awhile" is great too, although I think I prefer the previous two for their introspective words and deeper meaning. To be honest, I am not really a fan of the songs where Alison doesn't sing lead ("The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn," "Momma Cried," "Bright Sunny South," or "It All Comes Down to You") but they are good songs, and well done. I just think Alison's voice is amazing, so I'd rather listen to her. She doesn't sing many upbeat tracks on this album; besides the ones I mentioned above, "Crazy Faith," "I'm Gone," and "New Favorite" are three additional slow numbers. "Take Me for Longing" is the only one she sings that seems to move along faster than a walking pace, although I guess "The Lucky One" is not too slow. Overall, a great album; "Now That I've Found You" and "Forget About It" are even better. For a great gospel/bluegrass album, try Alison Krauss and the Cox Family: I Know Who Holds Tomorrow.

5 out of 5 stars Stunning.......2006-08-01

My first recollection of AKUS (their live album, on prominent rotation in BJ's Wholesale Club) had me thinking - "whoah, this is much better than the Dixie Chicks!".

Call it New Tradition, Newgrass, whatever, this AKUS album is a perfect blend of the old and the new. Allison sings as ever like an angel, Dan T. conveys true grit in his vocals, and Jerry's dobro has never sounded more soulful. It stands firmly in the past, and yet shimmers like a newly-cut diamond.

Amazon.com essential recording

This 1960 recording was a landmark album in John Coltrane's career, the first to introduce his quartet with pianist McCoy Tyner and drummer Elvin Jones and the first release on which he played soprano saxophone. It also provided him with a signature hit, as his new group conception came together wonderfully on the title track. It's an extended modal reworking in 6/4 time that brought the hypnotic pulsating quality of Indian music into jazz for the first time, with Coltrane's soprano wailing over the oscillating piano chords and pulsing drums. The unusual up-tempo version of Gershwin's "Summertime" is a heated example of Coltrane's "sheets of sound" approach to conventional changes, while "But Not for Me" receives a radical harmonic makeover. This is an excellent introduction to Coltrane's work. --Stuart Broomer

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Things.........2007-06-02

It's John Coltrane - what more do I have to say? Five stars!

5 out of 5 stars This Is One Of My Favorite Things.......2007-03-22

The Liner Notes written by Bill Coss indicate that John Coltrane, one of the giants in the jazz scene, draw his inspiration from other jazz icons such as Lester Young, who was his first real influence and whom he learned "simplicity," John Hodges, who filled his musical experience and became his first main influence on alto, Thelonious Monk, who answered dozens of his musical questions and the first one to show him how to make two or three notes at one time on tenor, Earl Bostic, who showed him a lot of things on his horn, Jimmy Heath, who shared his musical appetite, their friendship and practice together added a great deal to his musical development. Miles Davis, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie were also his greatest influences.

John Coltrane is surrounded by a gifted crew that includes McCoy Tyner (piano), Steve Davis (bass), Elvin Jones (drums). Together they present four notable jazz tunes starting off with my favorite song from the "Sound of Music," Rodgers & Hammerstein's "My Favorite Things," Cole Porter's "Everytime We Say Goodbye," George & Ira Gershwin's "Summertime" and "But Not For Me."

Let your ears feast on the some of the most recognizable sounds of jazz music from one of the greatest jazz artists of all-time, John Coltrane. This is one of the best albums ever made and it's one of "My Favorite Things."

A classic of an album worthy to any jazz lover's collection.

5 out of 5 stars John Coltrane: simply beautiful Sax.......2007-03-11

This album has always been a favorite since I first heard it in 1966. I mourned the loss of the album, but was glad to finally find it here.

Imagine, a jazz great, with a band of stellar performers, playing Rogers & Hammerstiens music, that Julie Andrews sang in "The Sound of Music"!

I think it very simply shows that a great muscian can do justice to any form of music. [Another example is Taj Mahal and the many styles he has played.]
If you can still get it, "My Favorite Things" is worth owning.

5 out of 5 stars A Timeless Masterpiece!!!.......2007-02-18

This is genuine music that soothes the soul. The album consists of 4 songs (all of which are beautiful). My favorite tracks are "Summertime" and "My Favorite Things," but the entire album sends a feeling of achieving a sort of soul- filled nirvana. Great album.

5 out of 5 stars His best lyrical work.......2007-01-05

Sometimes Coltraine can get too carried away with his virtuosity at the expense of asthetics, his notes muddling together into cacophany and chaos. "My Favorite Things" represents the best of Coltraine showcasing his innovation, his masterful control of tone, and a lyrical ear that transforms this Broadway song into a monument of jazz.
