About the Artist
"I think Andrew Calhoun is very good. His songs seem like more than the sum of their parts. If we are very lucky, other cities will have someone like him and they will be the beginning of a scene that will work without any help from the outside. I see strong desire in the way he writes, and a personal way that transcends fashion."

-Michael Smith, 1981

Product Description
Andrew Calhoun's tenth recording is a return to the songs of his youth, with all but two tracks written before the age of 20. All tracks are studio "take ones", solo voice and guitar, from a session in Portland in August, 2004 and another at Bruce Roper's studio in Chicago in March, 2005. Andrew first saw the cover art - JMW Turner's painting "Goethe's Theory: Light and Colour - Moses Writing the 10 Commandments - Morning After the Deluge" - at the Tate Gallery in London, summer 1977.

5 out of 5 stars Great for Calhoun fans.......2005-10-25

I'm glad John got around to releasing some of his old stuff on CD. I had a tape or two, but they're stuffed in a box somewhere and probably wouldn't play if I could find them. If your new to Calhoun this isn't a bad place to start, though Tiger Tattoo or Where Blue Meets Blue are what I loan people to get started.

John's a good old fashioned folk singer cut from an urban cloth. He writes pretty simple songs mostly about little snippets of life and delivers them in a haunting, melodic voice. Calhoun was close friends with the late, great, Dave Carter and their some similarities in style but I'd place him closer to John Prine in a musical line up.

Anyway Calhoun's a legend among musicians, and his label, Waterbug Records, has a pretty good stable of musicians. I say try `em out.
