"Outstanding! This album speaks for a whole generation!"

Product Description
Bright ideas, clever lyrics, melodic songs... The compelling San Francisco singer/songwriter has assembled a collection of 11 tracks on her latest release that convincingly relate to the human condition. That condition is, according to the dictionary, having imperfections and weaknesses of a human being rather than a machine or divine being. While Ms. Chandler's voice is as divine as ever, she writes of notions and slices of life that are indeed experienced in the physical realm. Love... Loss... Life... All grown up now, Laura's viewpoint is less intense on LEARNING TO BE HUMAN. She sheds light on her rites of passages and spends compassion freely on both herself and her fellow human beings. On "Happiness," she sings, "I fall down, I just get up and I stumble around in this happiness." Learning to be human, again according to the dictionary, means to show kindness, compassion and approachability. Plenty of those qualities here... "Fickle Thing" traipses through the joy/pain of love, "Makes you feel so good, makes you feel like dying." Another favorite, "Ride" is about the perfect simplicity of just driving away from it all with an undercurrent theme of dealing with logistics postponement at another time. Other points of interest: the sultry new version of her original, "Low Light," the bittersweet, "Wilmington," and the Steely Dan-esque "Pin-Up Girls." Laura's got a knack for depth and on LEARNING TO BE HUMAN she relies securely on this skill in a way that isn't trying too hard (which can be a very human thing to do). This evolved asset allows for her new music to flow sweetly and unreservedly off the CD. ~Sandy Shore (Smoothjazz.com Radio)

4 out of 5 stars Switchfoot's best work?.......2007-01-24

Although I haven't listened to Switchfoot's two most recent albulms (Oh! Gravity and Nothing Is Sound) I consider New Way to Be Human their best up through Beautiful Letdown. Learning to Breathe is also great. If you don't have these albulms, by all means you should buy them at this price.

4 out of 5 stars Great addition for the Switchfoot fan.......2006-07-24

In a day where Switchfoot is known for hits such as "Meant to Live", "Dare you to Move", and "Stars", early songs like "Chem 6A", "New Way to be Human", and "Learning to Breath" remain unheard. This 3 cd set is a perfect additon for those who love the music of the San Diego rockers. Although dissapointing compared to their latter albums, there first three give songs that are awesome both musically and lyrically. In my opinion, each cd gets better as the group matures. I don't recommend this collcection for those who just enjoy Switchfoot with their top 20 spotlight songs. But if you enjoyed the Beautiful Letdown and Nothing is Sound, this is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! 3 CD's for the Price of 1!!!.......2006-03-22

I love Switchfoot. These guys are definitely one of the best comtemporary Christian groups out there. You can't beat having a 3 cd set for such a great price. The set comes with the original cd's (original covers) along with the books that were with the cd's. So you get all the great original songs for a great price. Learning to Breath, New way to be Human - just can't beat these songs. Enjoy!!!!

I love switchfoot....I didn't have the first 3 CDs so it was a perfect buy and at a reasonable cost. Definately recommend.

5 out of 5 stars Switchfoot Lover.......2005-08-29

Loved the Switchfoot triple CD! It was great to see how they've changed from their first CD through their third CD. One thing that didn't change is the great music they produce and can't wait for the new CD to come out in Sept. 2005. They are a great band and sound even better in person - if you ever have the chance to see them in person! This triple CD is a great value for the price.

4 out of 5 stars Great Ride.......2005-08-28

I just discovered this artist after seeing her perform in front of Norman Brown (jazz guitar GOD!) I figured she'd be okay and I would just count the minutes until Norman took the stage - was I wrong! She took the audience by storm! From intropsective to jamming, she had us eatting out of her hand! And when she finished, I stood up with 500 others screaming for an encore. So, of course I bought the CD.

Not all CDs live up to the live performance that you get at a great concert, and it could be argued that this album does not reach the live feel that I got that evening, but that would not do this record justice. There is so much that is really good, even great, about this album, that I can't complain a bit. The songwriting, vocals, even the arrangements are outstanding. (This girl knows how to write a song AND she knows how to deliver it! ) I feel like I've just discovered one of those rare artists who has acheived so much so early and will be around for a long time. And I'm glad to be along for the ride.

5 out of 5 stars Human is a Hit.......2005-04-17

This is Laura's best album yet!! Always a great songwriter, she shows a maturity and understanding of the human condition and human spirit that is rare in popular music. She cleverly weaves insightful observations into beautiful sonic tapestries. Songs like "Fickle Thing", "Ride", and "Happiness" have all the markers of the proverbial commercial hit, and they are enjoyable after multiple listenings.

This album takes the listener on a musical ride filled with hot guitar riffs, deep grooves, and a Hammond B3! The uptempo songs are balanced by spacious ballads and overall the production really supports the work. My favorite songs on the album are the sultry "Low Light", the Steely Dan-esque "Pin Up Girls", and the simply stunning "Wilmington". One surprisingly beautiful track is the one minute and twenty second "Prelude". Laura demonstates her remarkable vocal ability on this track accompanied by piano. In the bluesy "Everything", a slight departure from the rest of the album, Laura has penned one of the best choruses of the decade - "You are everything you ever loved." This sentiment is taken further in the bridge - "This is the hope. This is your chance. Step from the darkness."

The artwork on this album is worth noting. The photos are stunning and the overall concept and design of the 16 page color booklet deserves an award. On every level, Laura has delivered a hit!
