......completely captivating and irresistibly compelling, Noonan's newest may be the first true folk masterpiece of the new millenium.......

Product Description
It is a collection of originals and traditionals with a celtic influence., beautifully arranged in a modern style.

........certainly one of the most moving recordings of the year. Highly recommended....., Dirty Linen Magazine

.........Noonan's voice fills these songs with emotion.......the creative flame burns so brightly here she's gotta be on the right track.......Performing Songwriter

......Noonan's voice has an alluring dronal feel........her mostly somber originals become transporting even elegant......her sustained notes open gorgeously like a young Joan Baez.....The Boston Globe

......In the age of Britney Spears, there may not be much of an audience for this kind of music, which digs deep into the world to deal with death, loss, and lovel that fights pain. but Carol Noonan makes this kind of music better than anyone, and if there is any justice, there will always be plenty of people willing to listen her..........Maine Times

4 out of 5 stars The Longest Barrel Ride/Self Titled Album 2 CD Set.......2006-07-22

I don't know what the track listing that Amazon offers is of, but this is a 2 CD set that includes Slightly Stoopid's original self titled album (the original pressing of which is extremely rare to come by) and the classic `Longest Barrel Ride' album. The self titled album shows the band in their early, rawest form. It is a 14 track CD primarily consisting of straight punk rock songs with touches of reggae and hip-hop here and there. Overall, it's a decent punk CD with above average bass work.

The real gem is the `Longest Barrel Ride', which is the album where Slightly Stoopid really balanced the sounds of punk/reggae/hip-hop together creating their distinct Southern California sound. Although Sublime influences are prominent throughout the album, Slightly Stoopid definitely has their own sound and style. `The Longest Barrel Ride' still maintains much of the rawness of the Self Titled album that I think gives the music an edge that their newer stuff lacks. They still play the songs found on these two albums at their live show which are absolutely awesome (You can download some of their live stuff at sublimearchive.com)

Here's the actual track listing:

Disc 1: The Longest Barrel Ride

1. Castles Made of Sand
2. Johnny Law
3. Ese Loco
4. Living Dread
5. Don't F***'n Look
6. Hands of Time
7. I'm So Stoned
8. Sinking Stone
9. Roots Rip
10. Crazy Riff
11. Running Away
12. Struggler
13. Slightly Stoopid
14. Mr. Music
15. To Little Too Late
16. Jedi
17. Violence-FTP
18. Just A Buzz
19. Metal Madness
20. Free Dub

Disc 2: Self Titled

1. Righteous Man
2. Operation
3. Hey Stoopid (Live)
4. Civil Oppression Dub
5. Zero Tolerance
6. Alibi's
7. Anti Socialistic
8. Opportunities
9. Smoke Rasta Dub
10. Stop
11. Wake Up Hate
12. FTP
13. American Man
14. To A Party

Just listen to songs like `Castles Made of Sand' and `Music Man' and you will see that they are not a lesser Sublime but a band with a style of their own and deserve to be recognized for it.

Play this album extremely loud and just try not to (want to) rob a bank.

5 out of 5 stars It is KARP! Tokyo is doomed! We must flee!.......2000-07-19

How can songs this brutal and severe and crushing be this catchy and hook-laden and beautiful? I dunno, but that's what they are. They took the überheaviness of the Melvins, injected it with 50cc of methamphetamine, and welded the catchiness of the Monkees to it. The resulting 100 foot tall mutant colossus will destroy the city you live in.

Sadly, these guys broke up immediately after (or during?) their fall 1997 tour to support this record. Bassist/vocalist Jared now fronts The Tight Brothers From Way Back When, who sound like AC/DC meets the MC5. I wish I knew what the other two guys were up to.

EDITED 9/9/05: Circa late 2002, Jared and drummer Scott Jernigan re-united and recruited Joe Preston (former Melvins bassist, one-man-band the Thrones, currently playing bass in High On Fire) to play guitar and formed a new band called The Whip. They sounded very, very much like Karp. They released one 7 inch single, Freelance Liason b/w Sheep & Goat Judgement. They then recorded a few songs to release as an EP. Unfortunately Scott Jernigan was killed in a boating accident in the summer of 2003 and The Whip disbanded. Jared has said that they plan to release a CD containing everything they've recorded, but this has yet to come to pass. Currently Jared is in a new band called Big Business which is also very reminiscent of Karp. They have one album currently available entitled Head for the Shallow.

5 out of 5 stars Don't mess with the best.......2000-05-22

Was KKKKKAAAAAAARRRRRRRPPPPPPPP ahead of their time? Most certainly. Why don't people love them? The people are ingrates. They are lower than some kind of bottom feeding fish. They are the scum of the ocean. KARP is more than almost any band could ever hope to imagine. They don't play by the standard theory rules, but they go above them. These are clearly the greatest people that have ever lived. They need a gargantuan momument, one mile high, and one mile wide, and one mile lone built for them. This monument will be made of solid concrete and will be placed in the center of New York City's Central Park. Four people will be randomly chosen to be chained to the monument, one on each wall, and as they die, they will be replaced, preferebly by derelicts and drunkards. It will be the most glorius feat ever under taken by man kind, or of any being, be they of pure energy or not. The pyramids at Giza will pale in comparison, and then i shall be kind of the world, and destroy all major citys, excluding Toronto and Culver City.

5 out of 5 stars Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!.......1998-06-01

Aarrrgghh!...Karp is the hairy soul of small town America...distilled. Beautiful in the way that dental pain is beautiful. If your bowels don't release with the opening guitar riff on their self-titled e.p., something is terribly wrong with you...or you're from Olympia. Probably both. That's right, this album rocks...rocks like a doublewide trailer at Chernobyl. Their Hiroshima style subtlety grabs you by the jewels on each and every track..from the boogie man psychosis of the first song to the wailing evil rally cry of the last few powerful notes. Buy this album now...but don't send me the hospital bill.

5 out of 5 stars Coming after you all, coming out to dual!.......1998-05-30

KARP destroys. Bigger, heavier and meaner than ever before, they pull no punches on Self-Titled. It's like a bionic-chop to the crotch of the failing American dream. Chocked full of pathos and fear, this album conjures images of cops, gutter-punks, white trash family reunions and the reak of a decaying society. These Oly kids have captured the Rock-N-Roll Heavyweight Championship Belt. KARP isn't a band, they are a force of nature.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This is my favorite album from ZAO.......2005-10-26

I know many wouldn't agree, but it's true. Listen to the rawness of their music. It's very deep, moody and their music has so much feeling in it. Liberate and Blood&Fire are rivals in my list of best albums. But their self-titled is their most unique and most technical album that ZAO dared to approach. 5 Year Winter, Trashcanhands and At Zero are the songs that made me love this band so much more. These songs stand along with Ravage Ritual, For a Fair Desire and Savannah. I wish their following albums would have followed the same path of this one. And I honestly believed that Parade of Chaos would be a continuation, but that CD wasn't bad at all. If you want to know how joining a different label can harm your music then listen to ZAO's the Funeral of God... horrible CD, except for the Rising End and Praise the War Machine... those songs are pretty cool.

5 out of 5 stars One of Zao's best..........2005-07-07

Zao has made so many great albums, its hard to rank them. (Self-Titled) is definitely up there though. This is Zao's most "metal" CD. The electronic drums are awesome because they sound so...mechanical. The best thing about this CD: Dan's vocals are the sickest of any Zao CD. They go so low and they're the deathest his vocals have ever been. What's even cooler is I understand that no effects were used to lower or deepen his voice, it's all dan. This album is chock full of Zao classics like : 5 Year Winter, A Tool to Scream, The Race of Standing Stil, and the Dreams that Don't Come True. Tracks like At Zero, Trash Can Hands, and the End of His World will seriously kick you in the teeth. Pretty much every track on this CD that's metal smokes, while the instrumental (alive is dead) and the two other songs provide a break in between while weaving everything together. If you want to see the more metal side of Zao pick (Self-Titled) up, and if you want the more hardcore side of Zao, pick up "Where Blood and Fire Bring rest" or "Splinter Shards..."

4 out of 5 stars Not To Bad At All.......2004-12-13

Ok ZAO is one of the most talented bands ever and pretty much the fathers of modern metalcore. Every album they put out is going to have something good and note worthy on it, but keep in mind no one's perfect. I do agree that this one is not ZAO's best CD and it marks the first time where they departed from their more basic sound to experiment a little bit and for what it is I think they did a great job. Dan is still at the top of his game on this album along with his amazing lyrics. There are some great guitar riffs and solos on songs like 5 Year Winter that leave you in awe, then the drumming is a lot faster and intense then previous albums. I would put this album after Blood and Fire, Liberate and Funeral of God for quality albums, but this is still an album ZAO fans can be proud of, I think their expreiment works here, it's not until their next album where they go a bit too far.

4 out of 5 stars Ok, just Ok.......2004-09-12

While "5 Year Winter" and "Trashcanhands" are the highlights of the CD, songs like "The End of His World" make you say why. I didn't really like the move to electric drums even though Jesse is still a beast.

    Album Description

This album is a collaboration between the 16-year-old Sophie Auster and the One Ring Zero musicians Michael Hearst and Joshua Camp. The lyrics of the songs were written by Sophie herself, by Paul Auster, by some of the great French poets of the twentieth century, and by an anonymous Englishman who lived over five hundred years ago. The first recording session took place in October 2003; the last in June 2004. Now seventeen, Sophie Auster is a high school senior in New York.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Like everything else, it's all about marketing........2007-03-23

It's a little embarrassing to listen to a very young singer who sounds a lot like many other non-professional very young singers, who clearly got the gig thanks to her literary-celebrity dad. The album itself is a novelty product that I suspect was conceptualized by One Ring Zero (the composers/producers of the music who also play behind Ms. Auster) to appeal to the pretentious intellectual-lite crowd. It is a cute idea indeed, to have the daughter of Paul Auster sing words written by French modernist poets (and of course, Paul Auster himself, who has also spent years translating modern French poetry into English). Sadly, the music itself is derivative and unremarkable; it is doubtful that their music alone (sans high concept of piggy-backing on literary celebrities) could have sustained One Ring Zero as a working band. Pitch-control issue aside, Ms. Auster's singing is devoid of style, character and feeling. Given her age, I might have been less harsh should Ms. Auster have chosen to keep her lineage sub-rosa and Mr. Auster refrained from shameless promotion of his daughter. But then again I would probably never have heard of Ms. Auster or her self-titled CD.

5 out of 5 stars A Siren for Heart and Mind.......2005-09-21

If you're the kind of person who feels making a statement, any statement, is an act of unpardonable hubris, then this CD may speak to you. The lyrics will evoke your love for language, literature and philosophy. There are poetic concepts of identity and reality. There is the wisdom that knows it can never be wise. There is love. All this gets enclosed and soothed, feminized and personalized in a hauntingly beautiful teenage voice.

Kindly and cruelly this music will take you inside to that hidden sensitive place where rhyme and reason do not rule. But you need good rhyme and reason to get there. Think of a siren luring you both intellectually and emotionally. Then, if you listen to these songs again and again, strength becomes weakness and weakness becomes strength. And you know you're not alone. It can make an old wise man cry.

    5 out of 5 stars Good Stuff.......2005-07-19

Never mind that this girl is Paul Auster's daughter, her voice and themes are enough presentation. CHeck out her site to listen to a sample...

James Hindle delivers another solid album filled with Alt-Country songs. Which is interesting as he is from England. He is joined on this album by members of The Ladybug Transistor, Vetiver, and Espers. Silence and Birthday Candle are among my favorite tracks. He had a song on The OC from his last album Prospect Park (which reminded me more of Neil Young's Harvest in sound and texture) and this seems to build off a slightly happier time in his life.

......Noonan's voice has an alluring dronal feel........her mostly somber originals become transporting even elegant......her sustained notes open gorgeously like a young Joan Baez.....The Boston Globe

......In the age of Britney Spears, there may not be much of an audience for this kind of music, which digs deep into the world to deal with death, loss, and lovel that fights pain. but Carol Noonan makes this kind of music better than anyone, and if there is any justice, there will always be plenty of people willing to listen her..........Maine Times

5 out of 5 stars Life, Love and Living.......2001-11-16

There is not one song that even causes me to consider clicking - skip - (which is rare these days). The songs are sequenced perfectly and build an emotion that ends in goose bumps with "Lagan Love".There is a bit of Appalachia, a bit of Celtic, and a lot of life in these songs. Carol's voice and heart are in the room. Every song is sung as if she owns it.The only thing that I wish were better is the engineering. The soundstage is flat. The instruments are sometimes too big. The backup vocals and instruments are at times congested and sometimes placed too close in. The saving grace is Carol's voice which is always right, and "close your eyes live". If this album had been engineered differently, it could have reached the audiophile "must have" status of Jennifer Warnes' Famous Blue Raincoat album. The songs are great; the music is good. The arrangements continuousy evolve which maintains interest. The sound is very good in spite of the poor spatial mix. Best of all, Carol's performance has life.Listening to this album is an experience. If you like Mary Black, Jennifer Warnes or Richard and Mimi Farina you might enjoy this. If songs of life, love and living touch your soul, you will be spellbound. This is an album that will not grow old; if you listen to it for a lifetime, it will still seem fresh and cause wonder.
