Favorite Bond Film.......2007-04-26
Music score was great. Paul McCartney and Wings. Movie well fitted for Roger Moore, a great candidate for this role.
The Solitaire melody is dreamy and romantic and often moody.
"Bond Goes to New York' is sharp yet out-witted. "Live and Let Die", a sacrament to testimony. Too good to pass up.
Finally! The complete Live and Let Die Soundtrack.......2005-09-13
I have only been waiting for this for 22 years! Granted when this was first released on LP (Vinyl record technology, pre cd, pre cassette and during the horror period of 8 track tapes!),
Only so much music could be recorded on a record. This album finally satisfies all of us who wanted all of the music. Sir George Martin does a wonderful variation to the classic 007 theme as well as great action sequences with different variations of the main title and then some original songs. Sir Martin was the first to score for Bond since Barry who had scored all of the previous movies unavailable for this one. The music was a fabulous introduction to the new Bond Roger Moore.
This Album will stand the test of time when good music was being made for the series.
Best Sound Track Ever.......2005-03-20
I just love bond movies and being able to listen to the music from them is just ausome
Live and Let Delight.......2004-08-12
The remastered release of LIVE AND LET DIE is much improved. The previous issue was no different than the track line up on the original 1973 vinyl record -- or eight track tape, depending on your antiquated stereo. Not only does this release include additional superb tracks, some of the original cuts have also been lengthened and more closely correspond the the film soundtrack. George Martin, the Beatles producer, took the helm from John Barry in scoring the eighth James Bond film soundtrack. Though no one has yet equaled Barry's compositions for Bond films, which we have not heard since 1987's THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, Martin's soundtrack was perfect for launching Roger Moore's first outing as Bond. Let us not forget Paul McCartney's brilliant theme of the same name.
The musical chemistry between McCartney and Martin is obvious as the title theme music is blended throughout the soundtrack. As a matter of trivia the movie producers originally planned to use McCartney's title theme with a female vocalist before the former Beatle showed his mettle as a negotiator. In the end, Paul McCartney and Wings performed the title track. LIVE AND LET DIE also proved to be a hit Apple/Capitol single as well.
There are a couple things missing from the CD. When some of the James Bond soundtracks were re-released a couple years ago they included selected soundbytes and an analog movie trailer. Apparently the remastered LIVE AND LET DIE soundtrack did not rate these extra features.
Oh well, Live and Let Die. In the meantime, live and go buy.
Why weren't these tracks included in the first place?.......2003-04-16
Yes, that is my sentiment....in fact, it seems in all the other re-mastered Bond soundtracks, the best music is left out, and Live and Let Die was no exception.
George Martin took over from John Barry to write the score for Live and Let Die and he more than admirably did the job. First of all, (take note David Anrold), is that he incorporate the theme song into the score even though it wasn't written by him...thus continuing the tradition of Bond music set by John Barry. Second, he wrote another piece for Solitaire which is also used extensively throughout the score. In all, George Martin wrote a score worthy of Barry himself....
Which is what makes the original release such a disappointment because many of the best music was left out. The re-master remedied that and includes virtually the entire score: the music for the pre-title sequence (gun barrel/snakebit), other notables are Bond and Rosie, The Lovers, Bond to New York, and many of the cues for action/chase sequences. There is an alternate cue for San Monique which I think is better than the one on the original release.
But why the 3 stars rating?
We have to wait for Bond's 40th anniversary for the soundtrack's proper release, AND rebuy the soundtrack (I have it in cassette and CD and now the Re-master). Call me bitter, I think the people who runs the Bond empire should stop treating us fans so shabbily.

Kid Music A Parent Can Love.......2002-04-18
How refreshing to have a CD my kids and I both enjoy listening to. I was attracted to the multi-cultural listing of music on the CD case, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality musicianship when I listed to it. It's real music, not sappy kid stuff. The first time my 4-year old listened to it, she hopped out of the car singing the words to one of the songs! I wish I'd known about this CD before I got them hooked on Raffi.
Our favorite CD.......2001-02-23
My daughters are now 4 & 7, we've had this CD for 2 years, and it is still our favorite. Unlike many kid CDs, it does not become "parentally annoying" over time. The artists have lovely, clear voices, the instrumental arrangements are creative, and the selection of music is interesting. It does not include the same "kid songs" you hear on so many tapes. I wish the artists would produce another one!

Composer Sigmund Romberg is best known for the operettas he wrote in the early 20th century. While you may not know his name, there's a good chance you¹ve heard at least parts of The Desert Song or The Student Prince if you're a fan of musical theater. But with The Girl in Pink Tights, Romberg strayed from the style that made him famous and explored a more Cole Porterish va-va-voom vein. Indeed, parts of the show are reminiscent of 1953's Can-Can, which isn't too surprising, since--like Can-Can's Lilo--The Girl in Pink Tights starred a strongly accented French actor, [Zizi] Jeanmaire. Granted, the team of Romberg and lyricist Leo Robin (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) didn't possess Porter's wit and melodic sense, but they still came up with a deliciously silly Parisian soufflé of a show--even if it was set in 19th-century New York. Note that Romberg died without finishing the score, which was completed by orchestrator Don Walker. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Reviews:
really only noteworthy for the fabulous Zizi Jeamaire.......2002-12-27
THE GIRL IN PINK TIGHTS is a fairly stock-standard 50's Broadway musical, but features some lovely songs. The show is really only noteworthy as the "legit" Broadway debut of French ballet dancer-singer Zizi Jeanmaire.
The story is about a stranded French ballet troupe, and the numerous romantic entaglements that occur. Jeanmaire sings wonderfully, and headlined the musical with European actor Charles Goldner. Others in the cast included Brenda Lewis, David Atkinson and Alexander Kalioujny.
The score by the late Sigmund Romberg and Leo Robin is quite formulaic, but does feature a handlful of memorable tunes like "When I am Free to Love", "Lost in Loveliness", "Up in the Elevated Railway" and "My Heart Won't Say Goodbye".
As always, Zizi Jeanmaire is a stellar performer, be it on disc or in person. She made her Broadway debut several seasons before PINK TIGHTS, dancing the leading role in her soon-to-be-husband Roland Petit's ballet version of Bizet's CARMEN, which played at the Winter Garden Theatre. In the early 1980's she returned to Broadway to star as La Mome Pistache in a short-lived revival of CAN-CAN, a show that bears a certain similarity to THE GIRL IN PINK TIGHTS.
THE GIRL IN PINK TIGHTS is another of those lost gems that has been brought into the light by those folks at DRG. Highly-recommended.
Keep bringing them back.......2002-04-04
Fortunately for collectors CD's of older musical shows are being released. The Girl in Pink Tights boasts the music of Sigmund Romberg whose songs in this piece do not quite have the staying power that flow through his operettas. Nonetheless the songs have humor, sparkle and romance. Noteworthy is the appearance of the French ballet artist Jeanmaire whose talents were choreographed by Agnes de Mille.
A couple of fun numbers are I Promised their Mothers and Love is the Funniest Thing, sung by Charles Goldner in both and Brenda Lewis in the second. Lost in loveliness and My Heart Won't Say Goodbye are appropriately romantic. And as every show about shows has to have a song about the theater in You've Got to Be a Little Crazy.
It's good listening. When are they going to release Li'l Abner? or Joel Gray's The Grand Tour? I got a list.

The exploits of Ian Fleming's British super-agent James Bond have long since become the longest running film series in history, spanning 40 years and counting. Not the least of the cycle's charm has been its music, a body of work that encompasses pop clichés (the twangy guitar of Monty Norman's original "James Bond Theme") and elegant underscores alike. While this collection spans music from Dr. No to The World Is Not Enough, decades of various legal entanglements prevented it from becoming the ultimate Bond music anthology. This is more a credible simulation, a newly recorded collection of cues and suites (including music previously unreleased on the original soundtracks) performed by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Symphony Orchestra. With John Barry's lush, ever-evocative scores both forming the core and setting the tone (but also featuring the work of George Martin, David Arnold, Michael Kamen, Bill Conti, and Eric Serra), it's the most comprehensive--if not exactly authentic--collection of Bond music yet attempted. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
almost the perfect James Bond collection.......2005-07-20
this 4 CD box has most of the familiar James Bond compositions.
Still, some tunes are missing(from for instance Thunderball and For Your Eyes Only)and most of the time the attention is on the instrumental version of the title track which is a bit of a shame. And yet, there are too many great pieces on this collection to make it a failure.Alpine Drive,Dawn Raid at Fort Knox,On Her Majesty's Secret Service(every track),Miss Goodhead and so on.All great pieces that not only show the great talent of John Barry but also the great power of James Bond films.Cause when you hear the music, you see the scenes in front of you.
Very much a recommendation to all Bond and Barry fans although sometimes it focusses too much on title songs. The only solution is to buy all separate soundtracks.
Good Collection.......2005-02-24
Very nice packaging and good tracks from the Bond music library make this an anoutstanding item. "From Russia With Love" and "Diamonds Are Forever" contain beautiful and energetic renditions. The John Barry music is handled quite well. I didn't real care for the David Arnold selections. "The World Is Not Enough" was weak. Overall it is a good collection just the same.
Not excatly what I expected.......2003-04-10
I when I read some of the reviews of this I thought that this was a complete collection of all the originals of the Theme songs of every James Bond movie and remakes done by the Prague Philharmonic of some of the other songs in the various movies. After recieveing this ... I started to listen to it and found out that it was all done by the orchestra. The are very good, but to a point it is not the same thing as owning a disc will all the orignal songs on it. Overall, this good if all the you want is the orchestral versions of most of the songs in the movies or the suites out of some of the movies. To a point these don't compare to the orignals. Keep looking if you want a set with all the orignals songs in it.
The James Bond CD for the John Barry purist?.......2003-01-28
Let's cut to the chase. Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do John Barry's work justice. 90% of this collection is as close as you can get to the original James Bond soundtracks. The other 10% lends itself to some artistic license with respect to the arrangements. Most notable is the main theme to Goldfinger. Also Nic slips in a few previously unreleased tracks. You will find these on the On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Golden Eye tracks. This CD boxed set is definitely made for the Bond soundtrack fan. The die hard John Barry "purist"/ traditionalist may find some of these tracks questionable at first, but after a few times Nic Raine's artistic license gives a fresh perspective to the familiar Bond/ Barry themes. The only reservation I have with this CD set is with some of selections that are performed. For instance, from Goldfinger, "Dawn Raid At Fort Knox" was a poor selection considering the selection available on that particular soundtrack. The most famous 007 soundtrack of all I dare say. Overall Nic hits the mark, and this CD set is a tribute to Barry's (as well as, George Martin's, Marvin Hamlish's, and Bill Conti's and David Arnold's) work. It's all here in one collection. I am a die-hard Bond soundtrack fan, and to the casual soundtrack fan I say this CD is set all you need to experience the Bond music legacy. To those who are hard core 007 soundtrack fans ...this is a FANTASTIC "addition" to your collection. This has to be the BEST (and probably the only) 007 "soundtrack" compilation. Whereas all the others feature the "main themes" from the Bond films as originally recorded, this one truly gives you the Bond experience.
Very enjoyable with most of the BOND music you'd want........2002-12-08
This is similar but more comprehensive than another BOND collection on one CD by the City of Prague Philharmonic. These are good renditions but clearly not the orginals. I must ask if the Prague Philharmonic does not own a harp? It is glaringly missing in the Goldfinger themes and i am sure on others. That harp is an exciting and beautiful touch to the wonderful GOLDFINGER theme and its absents is unfortuneatly very noticeable. Also some of the other themes can even sound muzaky if thats a word(elevator music)
It gets 3 solid stars good collection yet defineatly something is lacking.
