About the Artist
Southerly is the solo project of Krist Krueger formerly of dharmakaya (the band), and Alaska Airlines. This project, formerly titled French Canadian Americ Anindian, features an eclectic array of guitars, piano, and vocals. Southerly broods in the realm of experiment and does not adhere to a typical artsy folk acoustic sound. It features well constructed guitar lines, with the indie appeal of well placed and often occuring hooks. The overall outcome of sound creates a mood reminiscient of the darker side of the human dilemma. Music that reflects both vocally and instrumentally the standard sad state of affairs but leaves the ends open to personal judgement. It is music to be enjoyed at home with headphones on by candle light, but with company near by.

Burrowing through the grieving process this record is somewhat medicinal. It sends-off those passed-on. The last song on the album, Goodbye says it all in its name. It professes the final conclusion derived from the grieving process by the author.

BDAE is a concept album about death and coping. It is dedicated to three close friends and Krueger’s Grandmother who all passed away in 2003. The record takes you through memories, character descriptions and the process of coping and finding resolve. The album was recorded in Portland, OR over a hasty three week period between tours in April and May of 2004 at Haywire Studios.
