Product Description
AMAZE ME: SONGS IN THE KEY OF PEACE is a grassroots benefit CD of women's voices for peace. The album features thirteen songs by independent singer-songwriters from across the US. All proceeds (100%) are being donated to organizations that support peace, justice, and free speech. Beneficiaries include Women Against Military Madness (WAMM), Veterans for Peace, CodePINK, and Democracy Now.

This is a collection of songs by musicians who love their country and believe the US can be a leader for peace in the world. In a time when it's said to be unpatriotic to use the very freedoms we are trying to protect, these women are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in. The songs cover a lot of ground, from kindness and lullabies to guided missiles and the Patriot Act. Some issue a direct challenge for a better America while others invite the listener to imagine peaceful alternatives to our current course of action. Most are recent creations, although a few date back 10-15 years with messages that are still relevant today.

The project came together through a collaboration of musicians and concerned citizens who wanted an alternative to the voices they were hearing in the mainstream press and radio: primarily male voices arguing for pre-emptive attacks and military budget increases. In a time when corporate radio heads banned the Dixie Chicks for exercising their First Amendment rights, this concerned group wondered what other voices were being silenced.

They decided to find those voices and create a way for them to be heard, with the proceeds going to other organizations working for peace. They sent out a call for submissions and received 86 songs from independent artists. The group members donated their time and resources to help make the benefit album a reality, and their spirit of volunteerism has been contagious. Many individuals and businesses donated resources or offered their services at greatly reduced prices to support the cause.

The CD hits the streets on October 7th, 2003 and will be available nationally at many retail locations around the US as well as on the web. Order the CD today!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS ALBUM!.......2003-12-12

I recently borrowed this CD from a friend and now I plan to buy several copies of my own to give away as gifts. There are so many great things about this record. First, the songs are amazing (no pun intended) and inspiring! Second, the CD has introduced me to a bunch of new songwriters who I didn't know about before. Third, proceeds from the album go to groups working for peace. Rarely do I like compilation CDs, but these songs were thoughtfully chosen. I really recommend it. Also, all of the songs and their lyrics are on the website, so you can check it out before you buy! If you like any of the artists on the CD: Kris Delmhorst, Brenda Weiler, Edie Carey, Ellis, etc. I think you'll like this CD just as much!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars pure magic.......2002-03-18

Ellis is a breath of fresh air to the wilting roses of angry riot girl music and pathetic pink pop pansies. Her music and voice are amazing, but what makes this cd extra special is the brilliance of each and every one of her words. She is a poet, artist, magician, musician, and a creator for the now. Get this cd- you will NOT regret it.

4 out of 5 stars Exactly Ellis.......2001-08-18

I think this album is exactly Ellis. I actually like the forgetfullness. I think it makes her human. If you see her in concert she is the same way. I don't think there is anything wrong with making mistakes and being able to laugh to laugh at yourself. Actually I think it is adorable.

4 out of 5 stars Blue Print Live.......2001-05-14

I think that this CD is great. It is a great reflection of just how she is if you see her live. She is fun and you can tell she is enjoying what she's doing. There are a lot of great songs on this album. I recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Nice effort.......2001-01-04

Ellis definitely has a charismatic personality, but unfortunately she should stick to studio albums. Her constant forgetfulness and flightiness gets old, but her songs are still soothing.
