Rock N' Reel - UK
"She shines like a beacon in the darkness - star quality abounds."
Product Description
One of Newfoundland's most internationally renowned performers, folk pioneer Pamela Morgan returns with her second solo release, "Seven Years". Her first new full studio album since 1996's solo debut, (On a Wing and a Prayer), Seven Years finds one of Newfoundland's greatest talents and one of its leading and most prolific musical ambassadors at the peak of her form. Seven Years is Pamela Morgan's most original and stylistically evolved work to date. A tour de force of both style and diversity, the album finds the unique Pamela Morgan hallmark folk-rock sound, coupled with styles ranging from pop to jazz/torch to blues and beyond. From the evocative piano on "If I Were The One" and the title track, to the gentle new country feel of "Will You Drive", the joyous "Rambling Boys", and the haunting beauty of "Out West", each song on the album is a carefully crafted gem highlighting Morgan's phenomenal musical talent, rich velvet voice and carefully honed production skills. Pamela Morgan once again weaves her special blend of magic and produces a work of sonic and thematic contrasts and beauty, which captures and haunts the listener even as it defies easy categorization. A true original, every sense of the word.

Relient K's fifth CD is a diverse modern rock album that's so varied at times it sounds like a mix tape. "Take the Fifth" pulses with lush, Beach Boys-y harmonies, "Forgiven" is a piano-driven tune that sounds like early U2, and the dueling guitar feedback that opens "I Need You" displays deeper punk rock heaviosity. "Faking My Own Suicide"--a great tune powered by Death Cabby vocals, ironic yet playful lyrics, and a killer classic rock organ--seems destined for a movie soundtrack. The true standout is of course "Deathbed," an intense eleven minute ode to regret co-starring Jon Foreman of Switchfoot. Relient K have not only weathered lineup changes (the bassist and guitarist are new here) and mainstream success without "selling out" and foregoing their introspective messages of faith and hope. But they've made the best album in their career in the process. --Mike McGonigal

Done something right!!.......2007-08-01
Christian rock quintet Relient K remind me (musically) of Fall out boy or My chemical romance, but that's where the similarity ends.
Their most recent disc "Five score and seven years ago" gave them their highest placing yet on Billboard's album charts by debuting at #6.
Comprising 12 songs (not counting the intro "Plead the fifth" and interlude "Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care", the latter which comically declares" I just wasted ten seconds of your life") which average at about 3 minutes (again, minus the closing 11 minute epic ballad "Deathbed" which as its name implies is about a man pondering his life on his deathbed, with Switchfoot's Jon Foreman taking the role of Jesus), it bursts with energy.
Standouts are "Forgiven" (great cutting guitars, and a lyrical plea for forgiveness), the sunny "Must have done something right" (with a great Beach Boy-esque harmony bridge), the frenetic punk rock of "Devastation and reform" and "I'm taking you with me" (the latter two wouldn't sound out of place on a Fall out boy CD), the hilarious "Faking my own suicide" about a desperate attempt to gain someone's attention, set to soothing harmonies and a sunny sound, "Bite my tongue" about the need to carefully guard what proceeds from ones lips, and "Up and up" (with lyrics about trying to be a better version of me for You).
Great sounding music with something to say.
Same old Relient K.......2007-07-12
I was excited to finally get this cd after all the buzz about it. However I found myself a little empty after I listened to it. It had good lyrics although not as good as some of their previous albums and it had the good Relient K sound and I enjoyed it. I loved must have something right, the best thing and Give until theres nothing left. My only problem is that all the songs seemed to follow the same format and they didn't place many things to make the chourus or other lines differen then the previous. Other than that the cd's great.
Not the Relient K I know.......2007-07-05
I'm a long-time Relient K fan, but this new album just doesn't do anything for me. I was deeply disappointed in the music and the lyrics.
Some of the songs have that intentional ambiguity that song writers use to try to get secular air time. The most common technique is to write a song that is unclear: is this to God or to a girl? For instance is "I must have done something right" to God or to a girl? I don't think that it makes complete sense either way. Getting a Christian message out to non-Christians is the point, but the problem is that it means that people who are not Christian will never get the message.
A lot of the songs are talking about how messed up he is. Recognizing our brokenness and need for a savior is a necessary step towards salvation, but the songs stop short of pointing to WHO we need. It just comes off being gloomy and hopeless. "Devastation and reform" is an exception. It does mention God as the answer to the devastation he has created.
The last song, called "Deathbed" is a rambling ballad that goes on for 11 minutes. It is about a man dying of lung cancer recounting how he had messed up his life with alcohol, smoking, a bad marriage and divorce. It has some valid points about the destruction caused by dad's abandoning their families, drinking and smoking, premarital sex, etc. But at the end they tag on something about how he accepted Christ so now it's all ok. What I am missing is any indication that Christ transformed his life. When did he make this decision to follow Christ? How did his life change? It seems like he just wasted his life on bad choices and just used Jesus as his ticket to heaven at the end. Maybe the song is a warning to not be like that, but the point is dulled by the happy ending.
But it gets worse. The song "Faking my own suicide" is just disturbed. Maybe I just don't get it, but I can't find anything redeeming about that song. Is it supposed to be funny? Making light of suicide is not something I can appreciate.
Great new CD from Relient K!.......2007-07-05
This is a really good CD for anyone who likes Relient K's style that varies from punk to acapella... It follows the styles of many of their past CDS but also brings in some totally new styles... awesome album!
Another masterpiece.......2007-06-20
Relient K has been very consistent over the years, and remarkably, they have again raised the bar. This collection of songs rocks, in its entirety. Except for one 15-second interlude, every song is iPod-worthy. The album's opening track "Plead the Fifth" finds the guys skillfully harmonizing a cappella, Beach Boys style. Too bad it's only a minute and thirteen seconds long as it leaves the listener wanting more. The lead single, "Must Have Done Something Right" features a killer hook. Other strong tracks are "Forgiven" and "The Best Thing." The band finishes the album with a dramatic, eleven-minute song called "Deathbed", which tells the story of a man dying of lung cancer who reflects on his life and poor decisions, but recounts the night when he put his faith in Christ. And to top it off, Switchfoot's Jon Foreman sings the final verse. Enough said.

5 Stars, But...............2007-06-16
If you own ATB's previous cds, you'll already have many of the tracks. It is nice to have his hits all on one cd though. in this compilation, it's cool to see how ATB's sound has evolved over time.
Right on par.......2007-01-08
I wasn't an ATB fan before but I had discovered 'Long way home' through Pandora and it just filled my soul so much that I had to get the song. After sampling the rest of the cd, I decided to buy it and haven't been disappointed. It's in constant rotation on my playlist with the following track ranks:
5 Stars: Long way home, I don't wanna stop, Don't stop
4 Stars: Long way home (orig mix), trilogie pt. 2, Ecstasy, Hold you, Let u go,
3 Stars: Humanity, Let U go (reworked), believe in me, take me over, here with me, marrakech, In love with the DJ, You're not alone, 9pm Till I come, Believe in me (DJ Atoine)
and the other 5 tracks are 2 stars.
That's a pretty good ratio for a 17 track cd. Definitely worth it!
One of the better albums I've bought in the last few years.......2007-01-07
I have over 1,000 CDs and this is one of the few that I can listen from beginning to end, over and over again. Several songs are classics in my opinion: "Hold You," "You're Not Alone," "Ecstasy," "In Love With the D.J.," "Long Way Home." If you're not familiar with ATB, this album is a great introduction.
ATB's Best.......2006-04-29
Wow this cd is great it has 6 brand new songs one remix and all atb's greatest it cannot be beat.
Humanity,Believe in Me, Trilogy Pt.2, Take me over, Far Beyond, and here with me are the six new songs are the are in the same ranking as Ecstasy, in quality. these songs are so full of sound that even a person who doesnt normaly like techno would be impressed. The new mix of Let U Go is great for trance lovers it is more acoustic and slower than the original version.
After those first seven songs come Ecstasy, Marrakech and In Love With the DJ. each has a very full sound to it (and is some of the best quality iv heard in a long time).
And after that comes the classic ATB songs such as Dont stop, the summer, 9 PM (till I come) and so on. this cd is great for those first time listeners or for those that are hudge ATB fans. I completly support buying this CD.
Great best of,..........2006-01-29
I really enjoy the sound of ATB. This cd gives you the songs that we know from the radio plus a few new songs which I really enjoyed. I definitely recommend this CD if you are a fan of ATB. It's a mix some trance and house with a pop edge too.

I bought 2 of them!.......2007-03-20
Ok, so I made a mistake in a shipping order and accidentally ordered 2 but I am in no way complaining! You have two discs in a package, one is the standard audio cd and the other is a dvd that has live acoustic performances of some of their songs including a cover of the Beachboys' "Sloop John B" And they perform it better than the Beachboys might I add.
An absolute MUST for any Relient K fan. Not only do you get their best album to date but are also treated with dvd features.
Awesome CD with killer DVD.......2007-03-18
Unlike most CD/DVD combos, which are typically all garbage, the DVD on this album is actually worth the extra money. Buy the Deluxe edition. not the stand alone CD.

Customer Reviews:
Great movie, somewhat dissapointed with the soundtrack........2007-04-23
I had higher expectations of what the full soundtrack would sound like. The previews Amazon gives you is junk for listening to previewing a product. The movie was so spectular that I thought more highly of the soundtrack...
Fall in love with this soundtrack.......2003-05-07
This soundtrack was once lent to me ... it caught my attention that Yo-Yo Ma was the soloist in some of the performances. I was immediately won over by the rich, moving compositions of this collection.
Some might find the ceremonical chants and percussion heavy alongside such emotional orchestra pieces, but I think that they are two voices that need to be heard in order for the story to be understood.
My favorite tracks are the Main Theme and "Regaining a Son" (the penultimate track).
Haunting, emotional score.......2000-07-10
This film score is one that simply strikes the emotional chords. The beautiful cello solos by Yo-Yo-Ma enhanced the feelings of sadness and loneliness experienced by the character in the film. As I listened to this score, I could vividly see the towering snow-capped Himilayas in my mind. This score is both haunting and lovely at the same time, and it is another one of John William's masterful successes.
Beautiful sadness.......2000-02-01
If you have ever found yourself seeing the wisdom or beauty of a sad moment, listen to this CD. No, this CD was not meant to complement your happiest days and your most exciting moments. If that's what you're looking for, this is the wrong CD. But if you've ever seen sadness, and I'm sure you have, you might see the drama, the experience, and the sacred beauty that attaches itself to only the purest of sad moments. If you don't understand, listen to the sample of track #3. Think of something beautiful or sacred to you, and think of its worst day. It almost makes it even more beautiful, doesn't it? This music is made for those moments or situations, or to reflect on those very things. If nothing else, it reminds you of the same drama in the movie it accompanied.
This music is so emotionally stirring, it can only speak for itself. (So what am I here for? I guess I want to convince you.) Track #9 is perfect. It begins so sadly, and only a few instruments play. But when the full orchestra comes in, the power of the moment and its significance can stir your emotions. I love #13 because it almost shows the other side of the beautiful sadness. Hope.
If you can relate to anything I said, I think you'll love this CD.
Wonderful music, rich with emotion.......1999-07-17
The main theme (7 minutes) is exquisite and full of emotion. The wide range of instruments and sense of movement is wonderful.
Most of the even numbered tracks could have been left off the soundtrack album. The rest are truly beautiful and make the CD worth the purchase price. Having a CD where you love half the tracks is about as good as it gets with CDs these days!

Another Tribute album..........2003-12-02
Upon listening to this CD, one ponders the question why re-create songs that are already in this arrangement? Norah Jones is very mello, dull and boring as it is. All of her work is through-composed. She just writes as she goes with no attention to form.
These Vitamin guys must be cranking these CD's out in bulk just hoping that one will cash in. Do we really need muzak versions of all these rock-pop artists? The music was created originally for a certain ensemble. Putting it in string format does not heighten it's credibility. Furthermore Vitamin keeps hiring the same people to do these arrangements, why not at least experiement and make logical new arrangements based on the music (i.e. maybe a smooth jazz for Norah) to offer a fresh version-whoops you might steal that idea now...also I heard the tracks from the guy that was originally hired to do this..Joe Andolino.. and he's a great arranger. Too bad Vitamin doesn't care. Based on the used copies available of this already it speaks for itself.

Customer Reviews:
Great collection of ATB's greatest hits and a few new tracks!!.......2005-11-14
The first track is nice. It offers a total idea of what to expect from a "greatest hits" type cd. It's a new track that incorporates all the style seen in his tracks from 98 - present.
After that, track 2 introduces a male vocal (definitely shocking! since he rarely uses male vocals) on a remade version of "Let you go". The song isn't bad but I'd prefered a female vocalist. Once I hit Track 3 (his last single, I think) and heard a male vocalist again, I said "Uh-oh!!" and thought the rest of the tracks were reworked classics w/ male vocals... but I was wrong. Track 5 "Take Me Over" brought back the female vocalist and it was going strong. It's definitely showing his ability to gracefully accompany a beauitful vocalist. The rest of the CD is versions of his "Greatest Hits", including a few remixes. Sadly, none of the (literally) thousands of reworked 9PM/Don't Stop mixes were included. OH well... I'm sure we're tired of hearing those anyway. Added note: There are 20 listed tracks, but there are 21 on the CD. Track 1 (Humanity) is a little worked over to become a better first track. Track 21 seems to be the original version of Humanity. It just jumps into the vocals w/o a long intro. If you listen to the tracks in chronological order, you can see his style progress and go slowly move toward the "chill/energy" genre. It's nice.
The included DVD has all his music videos to date... however, the quality is OK... it seems like they just threw a bunch of the clips together and made a VERY simple menu and added it to make a few extra dollars. If you don't own the ATB: Addicted to Music DVD, then this DVD should be good for you. You'll have the full collection of ATB's music videos.
It's definitely a great gift (w/ included music videos!!) for any ATB fan! and a must buy for the few new tracks that show his growth as a DJ. BTW-- He's ranked #9 top DJ by DJ MAG (as of Nov. 9, 2005).

Wonderful, celebratory collection.......2003-09-27
Amazon currently sells this as a sealed cutout for an incredible $4.97 in the used CD section, under this code:
Label: Scde
ASIN: B00005MJTD
As many of the old Vox single CDs & boxes disappear or are reshuffled into deceptively "premium" packaging, this wonderful, celebratory collection remembers the glory years with a wide-ranging selection of great music, from the post-war mono recordings that, among other achievements, resuscitated Otto Klemperer's career & sent him on to settle some old scores, to pristine sessions from the Eighties engineered by the team of Marc Aubert & Joanna Nickrenz. Along the way there are some delightful surprises; pianists Novaes, Philipp, Haebler; Alfgren's lovely "Swedish Rhapsody" superbly played by the Baltimore Symphony as something more than a light classic; the under-rated Donald Johannos & Dallas Orchestra challenging Lenny Bernstein in 1967, the height of the Charles Ives revival, with a remarkable "Fourth of July;" Ravel's "Habanera" performed by violinist Elmar Oliveira. Included is a colorful 40 page booklet, written by frequent Vox liner note contributor, Richard Freed, outlining the Vox history with special attention to its visionary founder, George H. de Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (a collateral descendent of Felix & Fanny). My set also came with a "complete listing" insert of Vox Boxes, so many of which have been discontinued since 1995. One could only wish for a fourth CD devoted to the avant garde music Vox issued on the Turnabout & Candide labels, proudly mentioned in the booklet, but alas, tapes apparently buried in a secret vault somewhere.

My favorite all time album finally on CD!.......2003-03-03
60 Years Of Music America Hates Best is Spike Jones` masterpiece and a scream! When my dad was stationed in France around 1960 he would go to the base exchange and buy trippy albums like this for us kids. We completely trashed it, of course, but not until it had seen about a million spins. In 1990 I was in hog heaven when I found a SEALED vinyl copy at a used record store. Now it's out on CD and my life is complete. Thank you Taragon Records!
Something a little different from Spike Jones.......2003-01-25
After Spike's original comedy band, the City Slickers, broke up (as happened to all the swing bands of the same vintage), Spike's recordings took a different approach. Here we have in beautiful stereo two projects based on two different themes. "Omnibust" is a parody of television shows of the early 60s, including westerns, kid shows, travelogues, soap operas, sports events, and plenty of "commercials." Note that this is more of a "comedy sketch" than the musical craziness Spike is identified with. The "60 Years..." album is a collection of songs from the 1920s, 30s, 40s, and 50s -- from ragtime to rock n' roll -- with Spike-Jones-type sound effects tossed in. It's not the old City Slicker band, but quite amusing never-the-less. Two nostalgic items with a sense of humor!
