Laurel is the sound of the time between midnight and morning. Call it impressionistic chill, armchair electronica, modern music to move slowly to and breathe. Laurel sounds like the happy collision of the sonic poetic, digital dream, and wordless hymn.

Sweeping synthesized music!.......2004-06-27
First of all, I'd like to say I really like the CD design. It's the fold-out cardboard style, with a nice finish- but the photography is beautiful, the sepia toned, partially blurred landscapes. I think I'll display it on my desk in the near future.
Onto the CD. I am relatively new to this style of music, have recently found that it is my favorite style. This CD reminds me of a very-synthesized Patrick O'Hearn. I like that all the tracks do not have actual names.. some are just DR01, etc. I once heard someone say that not naming a track prevents any pre-conceived ideas for listening.
**Well, here are the things I liked:**
Track#4, "The glistening II" I absolutely LOVE this piece. It starts out with a whimsical winding flute duet/trio, moving from solo instrument to grouping, and back again... then a beautiful layer of synthesized chords play over them.. and later, a gentle symbol "tisk-tisk" beat joins in... a very unique, great listen!
Sweeping chords.. this is what the album is about, in my opinion. 2 or 3 tracks sound similar in composition, but have their own styles.
Track#7 has a real dark "video-game" music feel, with a little electronic indian flute sound clip showing up occasionally.. slightly middle-eastern sounding.
**Here are the things I disliked:**
Track #3, the "Remix of Fibilini's Tango", stumbles back and forth from sounding like tinny circus clown music to a beautiful orchestral piece. I don't ever want to listen to this track again.
There is an overall very synthensized sound to this album, which some people may like, but I find tiring at times. it reminds me of myself playing on my synthesizer.. I like to not have that distraction.
So! That is my opinion, as the first reviewer to post on here. In summary, I would say if you are looking for a new age CD with acoustic instruments and sweeping orchestral pieces, this won't fit your fancy. But if you like electronica and enjoy beautiful synthesized sounds and quiet beats, you will most likely find it a nice listen. Please note that I have only listened to the CD for a few times today.. I may come back and edit this if any new opinions form.
Thanks for reading

This is a good album from Scooter with some really fine tunes on it. I would recommend any dance or rave fan to have this gem. If you liked this album you should most definitely get their debut album "and the beat goes on". The closet thing you will hear to perfection.

I was made for lovin' this!!.......2006-01-06
The three-man techno band Scooter released its fifth album, "No Time To Chill", in 1998. This album features a variety of dance tunes, and I think that this album is a bit different from the usual rough and hardcore sound of Scooter. This album is definitely softer, and its overall feel is more melancholy. However, it works. Scooter is trying new things here, and the somewhat more passive and lonely feel to this album of electronica provides a refreshing change in pace. No Time To Chill also features some of the hit singles such as How Much is the Fish and Call Me Mañana.
LAST WARNING - As usual, the opening track is not a techno song but a voice counting down from ten to one followed by some interesting chords on the synth.
HOW MUCH IS THE FISH - This is, without any argument, one of the greatest Scooter songs ever. Not only does it have the coolest song title in the world, the instrumentation in this piece is bloody awesome. Featuring cowbells, keyboards, retro Celtic themes, and some of the best lyrics you'll ever hear from H.P. Baxxter. This is a true pump-up song. I first heard this about six months ago, and I immediately liked it. This is one of the few tracks on the album that is really active and has a fake crowd singing along. You can't help but want to sing along every time you hear it. If I were you, I'd buy this album just for this three-and-a-half minute duration of awesomeness!
WE ARE THE GREATEST - This one is for the electric generation!! A bit slow, with a more progressive rhythm, We Are The Greatest is another single that features a MALE electronic voice singing most of the song. This is rare - every other song featuring an electronic voice by Scooter is sung by a high-pitched squeaky female. This song can only be described as "groovy".
CALL ME MAÑANA - This is classic Scooter. The synthesizers, of course, have a wonderful melody, accompanied by H.P. yelling his lyrics rather quickly. I still don't know why the single of this song has an album cover featuring a picture of three horses. This piece, while embodying all of the typical Scooter elements, still seems to be a bit forlorn. I still love it.
DON'T STOP - This song features H.P. Baxxter yelling "Don't stop!" a couple times in the song. The rest of it is just trance. This is definitely one of the more melancholy tracks on this album. I still really like it a lot. It has a very cliché chord progression, going down one whole-step from the tonic, but oh well. It works, because Scooter is clever.
I WAS MADE FOR LOVIN' YOU - I honestly don't know how this song became a single. It's not that good. The lyrics are super-cheesy (you can tell by the title), and the electric guitar interludes ruin the piece. This is one of the few songs in which H.P. Baxxter actually sings instead of talking or yelling or rapping or MC-ing or whatever you want to call what he does.
FREQUENT TRAVELLER - This is probably the worst song on the track. It's just boring, and doesn't really appeal to me. However, it's not too bad. The album overall is still really good. The music itself is a bit formulaic, like something from an action movie. Halfway through the song, a high-pitched voice comes on and sings a harmonic melody that has reminiscences of Middle Eastern music, while a techno pulse comes in along. The clash between this Western and Eastern music doesn't fit well with Scooter's standards, and so it is a bit of a boring song.
EYES WITHOUT A FACE - This is the only song by Scooter that is a ballade. In this song, H.P. Baxxter turns from a happy hardcore MC into a heartfelt lead male vocalist. I'm surprised he can sing this well. H.P. sings very sad and lonesome yet beautiful lyrics. He sings of a woman he loved with whom he wishes he could reunite. This song has mostly an acoustic guitar playing the instrumentation with a short section with a very slow electronic beat. There are also (real) women singing in the background as an accompaniment in French. This song still brings a tear to my eyes. It is the most chilling Scooter song ever, unlike anything else they have ever recorded, but I love it.
HANDS UP! - This song has H.P. back on the mic with his usual yelling, and features an electric guitar. The lyrics are stupid, but oh well. "Hands Up!" is a bit repetitive. The second half is better than the first half.
EVERYTHING'S BORROWED - This is another passive song. It starts out with the percussion playing a funky riff, followed by an interestingly lonely sounding chord progression with H.P. saying (not yelling), "Everything's borrowed, in this world" very seriously for once. This has some more typical Scooter instrumentation.
EXPECTING MORE FROM RATTY - This song features H.P. yelling a lot, very quickly, and then all of a sudden, the music becomes very quiet. H.P. yells, "Expecting more", pauses, and then says very quietly, "from Ratty". What I don't like about "Expecting More From Ratty" is that the pulse, the rhythm, and the beat are very typical of rubbish techno.
TIME AND SPACE - "Time and Space" is a great closer for a Scooter album. It's a classic trance number by H.P., Rick, and Axel, and is very tranquil-sounding. It makes you want to go out and run a mile. Not exactly pump-up, but the adrenalin in the piece is enough to "summon up the sinews" in you.
On a scale from one to five, I'd give it a four. Why? Because overall, some of the tracks seem a bit too repetitive and/or cliché. However, that being said, it's an awesome album, and reveals more of the darker and melancholy side of Scooter.
Awsome chill.......2003-06-04
Like the others this is again a awsome Scooter album.
The songs are going in the right way of the future.
They are the GREATIST.

Not Their Greatest Album, But Has some of their greatest songs.......2007-03-19
Well, for one thing, if you have never listened to Scooter before this would probably be a good album to start with. That's how it was with me, and I've been in love with this band ever since the first time I heard Baxxter yell "How Much is the Fish?". Seriously, that is easely the best techno song I have ever heard.
Beside that song, there is also several other great tracks- "Hand Up", "Eyes Without A Face", "Call Me Manana" to name a few. But the reason why I am giving it 4 stars is because of tracks "Frequent Traveller" and "everything is Borrowed" - while they do have some interesting trance melodies, they are hardly any better then the techno [...] we all hear on a radio.
So, there is about 2 songs that I personally dislike on the album, but the rest of it is nothing but high quality techno... well, scooter-techno as I prefer to call it, because this band really has its own style, which is like techno music with rock-like vocals, i am sure scooter fans will know what i mean. However, if you are not a Scooter fan, and want to see what they are all about, this album is a great place to start.

On a scale from one to five, I'd give it a four. Why? Because overall, some of the tracks seem a bit too repetitive and/or cliché. However, that being said, it's an awesome album, and reveals more of the darker and melancholy side of Scooter.
One of the best Scooter albums ..........2002-03-25
This is an excellent return to form for Scooter and marks the new arrival in the group of Axel Coon, who replaced Ferris in the band. The album starts off very powerfully with the excellent intro of "Last Warning" and then the thumping beats of "How Much Is The Fish?" "We Are The Greatest" and "Call Me Manana," all excellent Scooter tracks in their own right. The rest of the album sound fresh and excellent, without exception, whether it's HP doing another one of his ballads in "Eyes Without A Face" or belting out the chants in "Hands Up." The instrumentals on this album are also very good, particularly "Don't Stop." But all the tracks on this album are wonderful and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone, particularly anyone who hasn't heard a Scooter album before.
Dope CD...takes a while to get used to.......1999-11-06
I heard these guys broke up last year. IF that's true, it's a pity. This CD really impressed me, as it journeyed between Trance, House, and just straight up Pop.
i'd recommend it.
No time to chill - get it now. Hurry!!!.......1999-08-26
This is one of the best works by german group SCOOTER. The album starts with an deep intro and suddenly kicks off with its best track " How much is da fish..". "Call me manana", similiar to that, follows up shortly. I personally enjoy song No.10 " Everything is borrowed", great example of transe techno. CD's is definitely worth buying, it will be a great addition to a your DJ collection.

One of our favorites!.......2006-11-21
This mostly family based group cannot really be defined as anything except good, in my opinion. Lovely harmonies, catchy tunes, and lyrics that take you back to another time and place are just a small part of why this cd and their others get played about ten times more than anything else we listen to.
