Not to be outdone by his leprechaun colleagues across the sea, banjo innovator Tony Trischka is joined by such luminary players and personages as folkie Mike Seeger, the Turtle Island String Quartet, television veteran Charles Osgood, and others to deliver a mixture of bluegrass, jazz, old-timey music, an oral reading, and a number of duets, some traceable back to the turn of the century. Trischka and his band Skyline have always been inventive (next to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, they do almost as much to stretch the range of their acoustic instruments into odd turf). And on Glory Shone Around, the players are at their finest in whatever style they choose. --Martin Keller
