About the Artist
Unapologetically, and even stridently, Edison Woods from New York are that rarest of enigmas: a band that functions equally well as a performance art project and that creates installations, utilizing its membership like a collective rather than as a fixed entity. The group is fronted by principal songwriter and keyboardist Julia Frodahl.

Product Description
"This second effort "Seven Principles of Leave No Trace" offers a wide open view of the band's sound; the strings and keyboards predominantly dress these nine shimmering, haunted, songs with a kind of solitary elegance that is at once sophisticated, dynamic, and full of seamless dynamic tension. The album's chromatic palette creates a spectral, textural schema where the protagonist, delivering song lyrics that are as poetic as they are rooted in all that lies beneath the surface of relativism and outward perception, is de-centered by and in the music itself. This is music that reflects the outward breath, the one exhaled by an individual that dissolves herself as she exhales, into the emptiness and interconnectedness of an undefined, limitless universe. At times Frodahl's voice comes so near to breaking under the weight of change that the listener has to hold her breath for a moment, seemingly to buoy the singer through this gorgeous yet tenderly violent moment of reckoning. It's a gloriously vulnerable album to be sure. But in the giving away of everything, as these voices do again and again throughout this recording, "Seven Principles of Leave No Trace" stands resiliently, naked and tall, as a deeply moving and redemptive work or art." -- All Music Guide

5 out of 5 stars "Love is short, forgetting is so long".......2005-02-24

Seven Principles of Leave No Trace provides the listener with a heavenly haunting of pure gorgeousness. This incredible album has been playing in my head non-stop for a month now and I can't seem to get enough of it. Every time I listen, track by track, it grows in beauty. From "Secrets" to "Brooklyn Flowers," each song leaves a bittersweet fog around your soul. And it clings to you all day and night. I strongly believe that everyone should give a gift to themselves and purchase this album as well as the first Self-Titled Debut.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful lovely music.......2004-05-10

I love this cd. Though each song is enchanting, it works marvellously as a whole- you must listen to the whole album straight through. Julia Frodahl's haunting vocals along with some creative use of instrumentals- cello, mandolin, others- give Edison Woods' music melancholic, mystical and soothing qualities... with lot's of subtle undertones. Muted Thunderstorms is amazing.. my other favourites are the Seven Principles of leave no Trace and He was a Poet.
