On his debut album, Mario Grigorov sounds like just what he is: a gifted classical pianist dabbling in jazz. Since he was five years old, Grigorov has been winning classical piano competitions and studying with top classical piano teachers--not only in his homeland of Bulgaria but also in Germany, Austria and Australia. A growing interest in jazz improvisation brought him to Los Angeles, where he was quickly signed by Bob James, who put Grigorov in the studio with bassist Brian Bromberg, drummer Glen Velez and producers Miles Goodman and Oscar Castro-Neves. Grigorov recorded 10 original compositions plus a slow, fussy arrangement of "Body and Soul" which makes the jazz standard sound like Strauss.

The young pianist's technique is dazzling. He can maintain independent rhythms in each hand and still articulate every note in a fast phrase crisply. His playing, though, has very little to do with jazz. He displays almost no understanding of the blues or swing, and his improvisations are marked by their complex intricacies more than their emotional spontaneity. Even considered as art music or pop instrumentals rather than jazz, Grigorov's compositions have a rococo callowness which makes it hard to enjoy them as anything more than vehicles for his prodigious facility. --Geoffrey Himes

From the ironic thrashing of "Sell Out", to the sublime stalker "Polite Gothic", this record reflects a myriad of emotions, styles and themes that stay fresh to the ears listen after listen.

This is an awesome song. My teacher at Polo Park is the lead singer. He is so awesome, but i love there music.

5 out of 5 stars Music for those of us who are not brain dead..........2004-12-03

Finally. Great rock tunes, intelligent lyrics, distinctive vocals, ripping guitars, killer rhythm section... NRWO is definately a breath of fresh air in this all-too-humdrum plethora of mediocrity that describes most of the rock scene today.

Polite Gothic has not been out of my CD player for months. Buy one, buy two for that matter. And tell your friends.

And support them when they come to your town. The album is great - but live is even greater.

One of the members of this band was a substitute teacher of mine this year in 7th grade. anyway if you like pop rock music then you might like this cd.

          5 out of 5 stars A juicy album.......2001-03-22

Rymes With Orange appear here with their second album. This album shows a lot more musical maturity than Peel, their first effort. The two most recognizable songs are the radio staples "She Forgot To Laugh" and "Toy Train" both of which Rymes With Orange played live on some really bad Tori Spelling made-for-tv movie. I talked with the boys about this one, and there were some pretty red faces.

Another song in the same vein as the previously mentioned is the rousing "I Believe". The same can be said for the title track, both songs that could have been interchangable for radio play with "Toy Train" or "She Forgot To Laugh".

"The Taking Of David" is a melancholy yet emotional song. The vocals on this one are perfect and the tempo is depressingly great.

Another worthy mention is "Time". Yet another great song.

I saw these guys live not long ago, promoting their newest album, Crash. More great songs on the new one, but not as good as Trapped In The Machine. These guys covered "Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears. Only Rymes With Orange could make a song this awful, sound so good.

Pick up this album, and you won't regret it.

            Product Description

"Hello Mysterious". Chance encounters. Renegade attitudes. Relationship mishaps. The poetry remains deeply engrained, but this time around the group casts a wider sonic net. The uptempo and dancy opener "Kill the Vibe" kicks start a record that winds its way around more ethereal numbers like "The Spy" and the whimsical jingle-jangle of "Just Passing Through". The record also reaches idealistic hights in "Sing" but also throws caution to the wind in irreverant numbers like "Billy the Kid". Hello Mysterious flows smoothly from beginning to end, offering the listener an introspective look into the mind of the group, often uplifting or boisterous but also tempered with some reflective moments.
