This Classical collection is one of great length and breadth ,and is well worth purchasing ,if you want an abundance of music at a low price.The sound quality is decent,however it is not great.This set will not provide you with the crisp,clear sound quality of a RCA,CBS or other well known label,so some classical aficionados may not appreciate it much.It all depends on what your looking for ,I guess.

I did not expect much in buying this collection, but I was greatly surpeised. There were no reviews of the product at the time, and I bought the collection simply as a sampler of many great piano pieces. Most of the recordings are exquisite and of decent recording quality. This collection was well worth the price.

I am surprised that this set has been out for 4 years and nobody reviewed it here yet. This is a lovely and occasionally amazing compilation. I was moved by many of the compositions. I really enhanced my classical music collection with this set. You have so many legends here to enjoy, from Bach to Brahms, Mozart to Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Gershwin, and more. If you love classical piano music and don't already have most of these works then this is a must buy for you. The price may go up, but I was fortunate to cash in on the $17.97 price. Quite a bargain for 20 fabulous discs.

John Valby is a guilty pleasure. He's rude, disgusting and appalling, all of which make him a lot of fun! The sad thing is, this CD is a real letdown to anyone who likes Valby. It was only a matter of time before he skewered Osama Bin Laden, and that part is fun, but the rest of the CD is very weak. Furthermore, Valby really sinks at the end when he tries to be patriotic and SERIOUS. Yikes! Stick with the naughty stuff John. To make matters worse, my copy of this CD featured a manufacturing problem where it was apparently produced track-at-once. What this means is that Valby's performance, which is live, stops jarringly for two seconds between each track, then starts up again, just as jarringly. Where is the quality control at Laugh.Com? As far as Valby's material goes, this is a sub-standard release, and the technical snafu just makes matters worse. Not recommended!

As a native southerner, you can't help but hold a special place in your heart for Texas. There's just a certain allure to the place, a special rebellious quality that has endured in the music--one that refuses to commercialize and go mainstream. Dub Miller plays into that Texas tradition right down to the very T. So much more genuine than a lot of today's bad pop music posing as country.

I first popped this cd into my cd player as I was driving through the desert near Palm Springs, California, and at that point, the sands drifting across the highway took on a whole other, ageless significance. This music is utterly perfect for the road, and as you move from the swinging honkey tonk of a song like "Dancer" into the strangely perfect blend of heartbroke-country-sad-song meets traditional-Parisian-streetside-organ-music in "Postcard from Paris," you can't help but look at the panorma around you and dream about what lies ahead with a smile on your face. My personal favorites are "These Old Boots" and "Paying the Fiddler" (vivid, even epic lyrics on this one), but as others have said, there's hardly a song on here not worth the listening. This guy is the real deal, and I promise you won't tire of listening to this one over and over again.

Dub Miller is the real deal. True, from the heart, Texas music. There are no songs on this cd that are there because the managers said to put them there. Like Dub said at one show, "This is your average Nashville country song. It's about a one-armed weed farmer."

How many more great musicians are going to come out of College Station? In this CD you will laugh through "Nine Miles North of Mason" and get chills from "Paying the Fiddler". Dub Miller has been exceptional since he was singing with Highway 6. This album is as good as Texas Country gets.

This is one of the best CD's I have ever heard. And one of the few CD's I own where I like EVERY song. I do have favorite tracks--"It's Alright" is at the top of the list, but I also put "Miles and Memories," "Paying the Fiddler," and "Coming Home to You" on repeat a lot. This is true Texas music. You can't get much better than this.

      5 out of 5 stars Simply some of the best recordings ever made.......2002-11-09

      Since I am the first to write about this album, I must explain that this is a compilation of sorts, incorporating spoken word, interviews from prison, a couple of cover songs, and the real gems: five acoustic pieces (though not to be confused with anything on "Carnival of Excess;" these are truly rough-and-ready -- there's no band, just GG Allin and a guitar, for the most part). The intro track, "When I Die," may be familiar to those who have seen the Todd Phillips film "Hated." Track 2, "Liquor-Slicked Highway," is like an old-time hobo song that, in my experience, tends to inspire sing-alongs even among those who don't normally like GG Allin. Another standout is the humorous "Rowdy Beer-Drinkin' Night," recorded in Allin's earlier days and with a decidedly 'country' slant.

      Truly great recordings, of a type you don't hear very often. I understand that GG Allin himself was proudest of his acoustic stuff (in one of the interview clips he comments to this effect). Buy this album and see what you think.

        This is a great collection, as any phil ochs collection would be. However the version of changes is not from chile as the long winded but rather trite liner notes say, because on the inside of the jewel case they say where the songs are from and that song they say is indeed from the Vancuver album

        You'll find several tracks on this CD that are NOT on any USA-released CD, including the studio version of "Cross My Heart" and some cuts from the notorious "Gunfight at Carnegie Hall" shows. The two tracks that were recorded in South Africa are rather enjoyable, too, and one wonders if Ochs' folk compatriot, Paul Simon, was influenced by them (Ochs recorded them more than a decade before Simon's "Graceland").

        One gripe--the sound quality is OK, but it's patently inferior to the USA CDs, including the box set.

        This CD has several rarities unavailable elsewhere (including the two African releases) but could have had even more unreleased gems. The version of Changes is supposedly from Chile, but sounds suspiciously like the version on There & Now. School Days is a great addition, too. Here's hoping for a release of the many other unreleased Phil Ochs songs!
