5 out of 5 stars Play it again, Dad.......2004-03-30

Our boys really enjoy listening to this CD and request it over and over for long car trips. They like the fact that it offers both a good story and songs they can sing along with (now that they've memorized them all). We like the way it teaches them a great classic Greek myth in a very accessible way. Definitely a keeper.

5 out of 5 stars An Original, exciting, entertaining telling of an old tale.......2003-02-23

This is an terrific CD of an incredible show! A musically inspired re-telling of the Greek myth of Perseus and theMedusa. Except it takes place in post Civil War South - La. This play is half spoken and half sung. The dialogue is clever and funny. David Maddox's score is GREAT - Disney should jump on this and Mr. Maddox ASAP, they need some good, original music to match their animation, else you get more Emperor's New Groove. My kids 7 and 3,love the music.

5 out of 5 stars A tuneful introduction to Greek mythology.......2002-05-22

Perseus Bayou is the tale of a young man coming of age in the Louisian Bayou country. The music is charfming and the stgaging of the original musical was superb. True family fare and a neat introduction to Greek mythology.

5 out of 5 stars Perseus Bayou C'est Bien!.......2002-05-08

C'est Bien!!! This is a terrific CD of a wonderful show! Fun listening for the entire family. The story is a re-telling of the Greek myth of Perseus (the half-god who slew the snake-haired Medusa). However, this version has a twist - it takes place in post Civil War Louisiana. The story is easy to follow because the characters themselves narrate their thoughts and actions. This makes it very simple to stage the entire play in your mind as you listen along. The play is half spoken and half sung. The dialogue is engaging, clever and funny. The characters are colorful and endearing. The score by David Maddox is terrific! You will find yourself singing along after just a couple of spins. The music really captures the Cajun flavor of the region. The actors are excellent and have fine singing voices. My two girls (ages 5 and 2) simply love this CD. They sit in front of the stereo and don't move until the last note is played. Sometimes they replay their favorite songs 2 or 3 times before moving on to the next scene. My only complaint is that we can't go and see the actual show -- does anyone know if it is playing anywhere? I bought this CD because 2 years ago I had the opportunity of taking my family to see "Sing Down the Moon" - another show by Maddox and Surface - and we loved it (that CD is also excellent)! I highly recommend Perseus Bayou -- whether you have children or not.

5 out of 5 stars PERSEUS BAYOU is a "Classic " American Story.......2002-05-06

The Perseus story is one of the world's oldest hero stories and is most fun when given an exotic, creepy feel. PERSEUS BAYOU does exactly that by setting the adventures in a far-away swamp full of dangerous, half-human creatures. And "questing" stories are always the most exciting kind -- stories like Jason seeking the golden fleece or King Arthur searching for the holy grail. The main difference in PERSEUS BAYOU from the original Greek myth is that Andromeda, the girl Perseus rescues, has a bigger and more active part. And I loved the cajun music.
