It's like Yellow Submarine for kids!
Product Description
"Learn & Play", Beth and Scott's long-awaited first CD for younger children, has been in production for over five years - and for good reason! Fans can be sure that Beth and Scott have put every ounce of their creative talents behind this effort: selecting songs that will engage children at home, in the classroom or in the car. One word of warning, though - "Learn & Play" is so much fun that it makes everyone want to dance, so be careful while driving Mom and Dad!
One of the greatest compliments Beth and Scott have received about "Learn & Play" is that it is an inclusive album. Yes, Beth and Scott's wonderful vocals and humor are in full evidence, but so are the talents of many musicians, friends and children who leant their efforts to the final product. Much of the credit for this goes to their friend and co-producer, Jeff Coplan, who is currently one of the most sought after pop songwriters and producers in the music industry. Even more important than his virtuosity at the mixing board, though, was Jeff's ability to coax fun out of all the performers on "Learn & Play". The tunes jump off the CD because every one had so much fun at Beth and Scott's studio, Homemade Soup Records. It's as if the listener is being invited into Beth and Scott's recording studio for a great party!
Learn & Play
Learn & Play,Beth and Scott,Homemade Soup,"It's like YELLOW SUBMARINE for kids". Beth and Scott blend great harmonies and humor with songs that encourage children to get up, move and sing along.

Customer Reviews:
Great Collection, worth getting over the original release.......2007-05-07
The sound quality is much better and it has Lips Like Sugar. Nuff said!
An Excellent Package With A Few Flaws.......2007-02-03
Here's the DVD tracklisting, since Amazon does not list it:
01 The Cutter
02 The Killing Moon
03 Seven Seas
04 Bring On The Dancing Horses
05 The Game
06 Lips Like Sugar
07 Nothing Lasts Forever
08 Rust
As with most music that I purchase sound quality is usually most important. This release does not disappoint! In fact, this is simply the best remastering I've heard on a Bunnymen release! With mastering by Giovanni Scatola, these songs sound even better than the 2003/2004 Rhino remasters. The music is crisper, louder, and more punchy. ("Lips Like Sugar" sounds awesome with it's roaring intro!) That's not to say that those recent remasters weren't good, but I personally think that the music sounds brighter on this compilation.
Next up we have the excellent packaging and tracklisting. Some fans may complain about the release being presented in digipak format, but I quite like it. Plus, we have the classic cover photo by Anton Corbijn. For a 1-CD collection, the release highlights 20 Echo & The Bunnymen classics from 1980 to 2005! We could argue what should and what should have not been included, but for the casual fan this sums up their history quite well.
My major complaint with this release is the 8-track DVD. Considering the list price, I think the DVD should have featured much more than 8 tracks. Surely these guys have more than 8 videos! How about including all their music videos?!?! Considering how most record labels work, this will probably be our only chance to get their videos on DVD for several years to come. It's only a random sample of their career! I guess fans will be left "You-Tube"-ing the rest!
Note that the package states "all promo videos are stereo except track 2 in mono". What is track 2? "The Killing Moon"! Unfortunately, Rhino let me down here. Why include all videos in stereo except this one? Not that it really mattered, considering the original audio tracks seem to have been used on all the videos instead of overdubbing newly remastered audio. That's why "The Killing Moon" video sounds poor and flat, besides it being in mono!
The recent videos sound fine, but they are mastered at too low of volume. Sounds like laziness! Do an A/B comparison between "The Cutter" as heard on the DVD video and "The Cutter" as heard on the CD. It goes to show how well the music has been restored for the CD and how carelessly flat it was left for the DVD. As for the picture, it is surprisingly excellent, considering the age of some of the earlier promos. Too bad the same care couldn't have been given to the underlying audio track. I expect better work from the Rhino team!
As a casual fan myself, I must admit that I still really enjoy this best of, including the DVD (despite the faults). It's the first time I've seen many of these videos. Add in the excellent CD audio, and it's a worthy package to add to any Echo collection.
long overdue.......2007-02-01
Finally we get an official video collection on DVD with this remaster of the 1985 release!
The original 1985 release of "Songs To Learn and Sing" was a must have for every college kid I knew back then. For some US fans this was the first album to expose them to the Bunnymen.
This expanded and remastered version picks up where the old one left off and then picks up again when they reformed with the UK Top 10 album "Evergreen" and continues to the 2006 release "Siberia".
My only complaint is that this is not in 5.1 surround sound.

Songs to Learn and Sing is a staple in the collection of post-new-wave rock. It was an era when the term progressive had just replaced the word alternative to describe music that was just too cool for American radio. This album is a compilation of Echo and the Bunnymen's British chart toppers from 1980 to 1985. The only song on this album that received attention beyond the band's cult following was "Bring on the Dancing Horses," made famous by its inclusion in the Pretty in Pink soundtrack. Echo and the Bunnymen are a tinny, twangy, ever-so-slightly-out-of-tune guitar band. What lead singer Ian McCulloch lacked in vocal range he made up for by embracing his comfort zone with full-force cracking, emotional yelps. A distinctive, recognizable sound, even to the barely initiated, this album marks an era yet is so enjoyable, it remains proudly timeless. --Beth Bessmer

Worth another listen.......2006-03-09
Let us not forget this cd for too long.
These really are songs to learn and sing!
Deep vocals of Ian McCullough are strong and the lyrics are catchy such as Do It Clean which is still playing in my mind.
Merely a "good" collection of Echo songs - it's not the best stuff ever, but it's still pretty decent.......2006-01-10
Echo & The Bunnymen is most well-known for their 80's hit "The Killing Moon" (which was featured in the cult hit movie "Donnie Darko"). While this is a great song, the rest on here just aren't as good. Echo & The Bunnymen are clearly pretty talented, but the singer and the lyrics just aren't that good or interesting most of the time. None of the songs are bad here, thankfully, but they're not great either - they're all indeed catchy, however. Musically it's pretty standard 80's indie/pop rock, as there's little innovation to be found here. If you're an Echo & The Bunnymen fan then this is the collection to get, but if you're looking for great songs you won't really find them here. I would argue that "The Killing Moon" alone bumps this up to a "4" from a "3.5". This is merely a "good" (arguably decent) CD. Slightly recommended.
Highlights include:
"The Killing Moon"
the rest are good or decent.
The Most Underrated Band in History. .......2006-01-04
Well, you've heard a million times the cliché "still sounds fresh today," and I'm here to tell you that this hackneyed saying is absolutely true when it comes to this CD. When I was mostly unfamiliar with punk music I associated the best of it with the otherworldly sound of the introduction to "The Cutter." Later, after listening to the album extensively, I realized that "Bring on the Dancing Horses" was the worst of the eleven tracks (which is really saying something). It did not take long before they became, like the Smiths, personal favorites. Echo was one of the most original sounding bands of the eighties with talent to burn. They featured the type of complexity that made it tough on critics to reduce that wonderful decade into a stew of big hair, kitsch, and campy lyrics. This is about as passionate a band as there has ever been, and when I play "Songs..." I do not jump about. I let it wind through and imbibe its beauty and perfection.
a must have..........2005-09-01
ian mcculloch and co. practically invented the british guitar rock later adopted by the likes of the smiths, the stone rose, et. al. more melodic and accessible than the likes of joy division, echo and the bunnymen straddled the line between exquisite song crafting and experimentation.
ian mcculloch proved to be the perfect frontman -- the trademark haircut, the trenchcoat, the voice that threated to crack at any second, the enigmatic persona. while not a truly gifted vocalist, he never had to be. his raspy voice is ideally suited to the music. much of the bunnymen's charm lay in their working class roots, settling for less than perfect, slightly gritty production and focusing instead on quality beats and melodies. will sargeant single-handedly ushered in a new guitar movement. his playing was sometimes intrusive in the beginning, but always interesting melodically and sonically as he matured. (and coldplay oughta be paying him royalties for the riffs they've nicked from him.) add to that a more than capable rhythm section (r.i.p., pete), and the bunnymen became one of the most influential rock bands of the last 25 years.
some of the finest bunnymen songs are found here: the oft mentioned 'the killing moon,' 'never stop,' 'the cutter,' 'the rescue,' etc. even now (2005), they sound fresh. every time i play this cd in my car or at home, i'm blown away by how utterly *fantastic* a band they really are--inventive, unique, and ridiculously original; excellent arrangements, flawless melodies, superb musicianship. of course, it always helps to have ian broudie doing the knob-twiddling.
this collection is something of 'greatest hits' that chronicles one of the most important 'post-punk' bands to ever come out of the UK. a must have for any music afficionado.

Album Description
Here's a fun musical way for children to learn about reading, writing, and mathematics. Phonics and numbers are presented in a meaningful context of colorful rhymes and stories. Through hand and finger motions, full body movement, and opportunities for verbal expression, children are fully engaged in the learning process.
The songs focus on the relationship between letter symbols (the alphabet) and sounds of the English language (phonemes). The songs also encourage children to search for relationships, order and predictability as they work with numbers.
When the lyrics pose questions or problems, answers often come from children on the recording. There is always a musical interlude or a short pause before the answer is given. This gives the child listening a chance to answer first, then check the answer immediately following.
The 12 songs are presented first with vocal versions and then with instrumental renditions. Once children have learned a song, they can sing along without hearing the words or create their own lyrics and activities. The instrumentals have a soft piano melody line to act as a guide without overpowering the children's voices.
Included with each CD is a teaching guide that describes ways to actively involve children with each song. (Feel free to vary and adapt the ideas suggested in this guide, and to create new ways of using the songs to fit your school or home situation.) The ultimate goal is always the same: to foster enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning through music and movement.
Customer Reviews:
Good CD.......2007-01-05
This CD is great for young children. They like the songs, and all songs are very catchy. It's nice that the songs are included without words as well. Overall, a very good cd for little ones!
great four any age.......2006-08-15
I have a twenty-two month old and a six month old. They both smile, bounce and dance when I put this c.d. on. The tunes are pleasent and fun. The older child sings some of the words during the call and reponse. I like it and the children seem to love it.
Simply the best!.......2005-03-20
Both of my granddaughters, ages 2 and 5, love this CD and ask for it in the car more often than Sesame Street. The tunes are really catchy and easy to remember. And every song teaches something, from rhythm, to numbers, to vowels and alliteration. Just a great CD!
One little gem!.......2003-05-30
I've used Hap Palmer's music in my pre-k and kindergarten classes for many years. This year I moved to first grade, and having such a huge selection of Hap's music, (nearly all of it on LP's!) that I hadn't thought to add to my collection until I happened to get a copy "One Little Sound, Fun with Phonics and Numbers" at the beginning of this school year. While "One Little Sound" is still great fun and learning for pre/k, and kindergarten, it's also a wonderful resource for those all important first grade skills too. Having a hard time getting those vowels memorized and tired of singing about Old MacDonald's vowels? Try "Ayee I Owe You" and get them down in nothing flat. Learning about syllables? Sing along with "Chickadee And Chipmunk" and learn all about word chunks! (And slide right into a REAL kid pleaser--"Skidamarinkadinkadink" at the end of the song!). Beginning word families? Bop, hop, pop, mop, chop, and flop along with "Bop 'Til We Drop". And learn even more word families with "Bounce", "One Little Sound" and D-O-G, Walkin' The Dog". How about skip counting? "Follow Along" will introduce counting patterns for you. And not only are these songs educational, they are FUN, FUN, FUN! There is so much to this CD, and I've only scratched the surface, so to speak. One more thing--don't forget to read the booklet that comes with it--there's a goldmine of information about how to extend the learning with every song.
Wow! What a terrific CD!.......2002-07-21
Hap's most recent work shows why his music is so widely used by educators. "One Little Sound: Fun with Phonics and Numbers" uses cutting-edge educational methods in a most enjoyable way. Hap's music has evolved with the times, integrating rap and cool beats with his trademark calls for movement. Superb for building reading and math skills. Who says learning can't be fun?

Her seventh solo album in the books, Kristin Hersh now has a body of work stretching back two decades to when her band Throwing Muses tossed the angst-ridden teenager directly into the indie-rock spotlight. Hersh has made great personal strides since branching off on her own, each record of engaging pop music serving as a reflective document of her impulsive lifestyle, each song allowing her voice to grow from young and girlish to broadly mature. She plays most of the instruments on all 14 songs, several of which deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (Hersh once lived in New Orleans) and a personal misfortune in her own home. Heartbreak practically drips from Hersh's voice when she vows that "getting up is what hurts" in the commanding rocker "Day Glow" or admits that "nervous energy keeps us busy" in the pensive "Ice." As usual, the turbulently talented musician picks herself off the mat with the self-deprecating instrumental "Christian Hearse," the Nirvana-like "Under the Gun," and "Winter," complete with tubular bells, strings, and an Irish-tinged chorus that is as triumphant as the artist herself. --Scott Holter
Customer Reviews:
Another masterpiece by Kristin.......2007-04-26
I was fortunate to see her playing this album last night at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC with The McCarricks. Full of energy and with a voice that will chill your soul.
DIZZY MISS KRISTI.......2007-04-20
Being a junkie for Kristin Hersh can be a tricky business. Inevitably rewarding but at times it's a bit of a chore. Reading some of the reviews posted here I feel a bit cheated. Like I got a different album altogether.
"Learn To Sing..." has proven to be the most difficult listening in Hersh's canon, for me. It's bleak & depressing. That's nothing new for her, I realize...but it was always bathed in a radiant swirl before. The emotions conjured here end up feeling like a noxious hangover.
I don't expect her to regurgitate "The Real Ramona" time & again, but the gentle beauty of "Hips & Makers" has turned into a dizzying stream of mournful dirges. There is a very ugly sound here that even the exquisite strings on the first track cannot cover-up. Her voice, also seems immersed in muck.
After several listenings I've found only "Vertigo" to be bearable. It would've been a perfect title for this disc. It's disorienting, and not in a good way.
I wish I could feel as positive about this as some of the other reviewers here, but this one will be collecting dust on my shelf.
Kristin Hersh Sings Like a Star.......2007-03-16
This is by far the best KH album since Hips and Makers. It's amazing to see her journey over the years, experimenting with each album. Every song on this record is catchy and I feel reflects a certain serenity and happiness/calmness in her life. Thank you Kristin for some great new tunes. I HIGHLY recommend this album, and everyone I've exposed it to has had nothing but good things to say about it.
A carefully crafted yet compulsively delivered gem........2007-03-10
The emo kids should lend an ear to Kristin Hersh if they want their music with dollops of misery.
It is never more eloquently done than on "Nerve Endings", the agonised lyrics set against uncomfortable chord changes, with only the elegant string arrangement to provide any balm.
"Getting up is what hurts," she wails on "Day Glo", and sings of being "twisted in slo-mo by angry water". (Having had the misfortune to name her last band 50 Foot Wave just before the Asian tsunami, and then mourning the flood disaster in New Orleans, Hersh's own home suffered a burst pipe so destructive that it used up the family savings and forced her to sell up.)
As Hersh's spiky work goes, this is less fraught, the sourness of that cracked voice balanced by the sweetness off the strings.
Still, it's never exactly easy listening.
I am in love!.......2007-03-10
I think this is some of her best work yet, although that is hard to say about such a talented singer/songwriter. I have been playing it over and over since it arrived.

Album Description
Harmony Singing By Ear: A step by step approach for learning how to sing harmonies above and below a melody. Three CDs totaling three 1/2 hours of instructional narrative, fully produced music tracks and guide vocals. One, two or more singers can learn two and three-part harmony singing. Vocal coach Susan Anders has successfully used these methods for over twenty years with pop, R&B, folk, rock and country singers.
Harmony Singing By Ear uses two complementary methods to teach singers how to harmonize by ear. After reviewing some music theory basics, instructional sections walk you through how to find the upper and lower harmony parts for eight songs. Those same harmonies are sung on fully produced music tracks. On these tracks the vocal parts are panned to different speakers--singers can pan to one speaker and just hear their part, pan to the middle and hear both parts, or pan to the other speaker to practice with one or two other parts. In this way, beginning harmonizers can control how much or how little of the other voices they hear, making it easier to stay on their part. More confident harmonizers can sing without the guide vocals. Singers who simply want to learn and sing the harmony parts can skip the instructional tracks, go right to the music tracks, and pan their speakers to the right to learn the harmony part for each song.
Though much of Harmony Singing By Ear focuses on the how-tos of parallel harmonizing above and below a melody, singers will also learn about call-response, blue note, chromatic and block chord harmonies. Music tracks without vocals are also included so singers can practice their parts "without the training wheels". Plus, there's a supplementary section of exercises to build one's harmonizing skills. The songs range in style from pop to R&B to folk to modern rock to jazz.

Best i've heard.......2007-05-05
I've been singing and teaching harmony for a long time now, and I must say that these CD's are the best i've come across. They are not overloaded with theory and musical jargon, which makes it easy for the non-musicians for follow. Great choice of songs too.
A revolutionary product.......2006-01-10
I was clueless about harmony singing before using these CDs. Now I'm getting it-the lessons are very user-friendly and go at a good pace, and I'm learning things about music and singing that never made sense to me before. Good choice of songs, good method.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful.......2007-07-02
My children LOVE this CD. It has helped them so much with their mulitplication tables. My 8 year old's teacher has asked where to get it as well. Everytime we go somewhere they ask to hear it. Wonderful product!
Kids love it!.......2007-05-25
The music is upbeat and tells a story. I think the kids enjoy this and the addition soundtrack more than any of the educational CD's they have. I wish more learning tapes were this creative!
OK.......2006-12-21
The songs are catchy my 8 and 9 year olds like the songs but the multiplication parts in the songs are sometimes spaced out with lots of words in between. Very hard to actually memorize times tables...
Googols of Fun.......2005-06-08
Bird-like creatures from space named googols (named after a very large number) take you on an exciting adventure through the universe in this award winning product, teaching facts about numbers and world geography at the same time.
The multiplication vacation "movie soundtrack" help make the learning of multiplication facts fun and exciting.
The CD begins with a "star wars" feel-"Long, long, long ago in a galaxy faraway..." -grabbing your kids attention from the get-go.
My kids enjoy listening to the songs, and once the CD turns off I can often hear them humming a few of the tunes and chanting the phrase "googol power." My 4 year old particularly enjoyed "two two two" and "penguin rap" was a big hit with everyone.
If you're looking for some catchy "educational" music to play at home or in the car, look no further..It's right here.
fun and educational for all ages.......2005-03-01
My kids, 2 and 4, love this CD. They sing along and ask questions about the songs, making a great opportunity to teach them about multiplication. The songs are grown-up friendly, I particularly like the 13 song.

Unbelievable.......2007-03-06
I can NOT express in words the joy that I am experiencing listening to this album(and I'm not even under the influence). Refreshing, pure, melodic, and every other positive quality in all of the previous reviews. I personally enjoy this more than the "We're Already Gone" album. It has more of a Caribbean feel. Heavy regga overtones. Good but this one has the beachier more relaxed feeling that I love oh so much.
Very good.......2006-11-06
I am a big fan of Jack Johnson and bought this CD on a reccomendation. It is a chilled-out lyric focused album perfect for summertime.
An Amazing CD..........2006-03-01
Wow, I did not expect to hear this. Who ARE these guys? I was hesitant at first to order it because there was no way to hear any of the tracks, but I knew who Mason Jennings was and I liked his style so I took a chance. Unbelievable! This is album is completely stripped down, you can practically hear them recording in someone's basement. They've got a funky, chilled-out, reggae/rock vibe and soulful lyrics. This CD is a must-have if you like Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Mason Jennings, etc. or if you just love great acoustic music.
Hidden Treasure.......2006-02-27
If you are a fan of Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, etc.. you will love this album. I was hesistant to purchase this at first, since I had never heard anything about the band, but I ended up making a great choice by purchasing this fabulous cd. It is unfortunate that there aren't more of The Beautiful Girls' albums in the US.
dreaming of summer..........2006-02-03
4 weeks ago i moved from Sydney, Australia (the hometown of the Girls) to Zurich Switzerland. I've always liked this album, its got some nice catchy acoustic pop tunes but its only since I've moved that its taken on new meaning. The Beautiful Girls are truly one of Australia's best kept secrets and one of their best live acts. While they may not have the dynamic stage presence that other aussie bands like AC/DC or Wolfmother have, these guys are really fantastic.
"Learn Yourself" was the then 3 piece's first full length album (they have since been joined by multi-instrumentalist Filipe). In many ways it is still their best release, showcasing the understated singing/songwriting talent of frontman Matt McHugh anchored down by a rootsy rhythm section consisting of Clay McDonald on bass and Mitch Connelly on drums. Despite their stripped down setup, they have produced some incredibly varied sounds: from the dark, chilled reggae of "blackbird" to the crowdstarting rhythm of "music", from the perfectly flawed harmonies on "freedom pt.2" to the morose tear-jerker "la mar".
I saw the band live on their "we're already gone" tour of 2005 and were one of the best live acts I've ever seen. They have since progressed to a more complex carribean/latin sound complete with horn sections and improvised jams, but the crowd always responded most to the songs from this album. It's rare to find a band that can find such a fantastic sound so quickly, but with their unique mixture of roots, reggae, and classic acoustic ballads, its a sound that I hope will be around for a lot longer.

Great CD for Kids.......2007-05-03
I bought this CD for my daughter for Christmas and she loves it. We listen to the music in the car all the time. All the songs are from the Disney shows that she has watched so she sings along. It's a great CD and well worth the money.
[...]
Another must have for Playhouse Disney fans.......2007-03-08
This is a really great compilation cd with many of the newer acts from Playhouse Disney. It entertains all 3 of my girls by having old comfortable favorite characters like Bear in the Big Blue House and the newer Doodlebops and Ralph's World. It's also not too much of anyone in particular so it's not hard for the parents to listen to.
Fun Music!!.......2006-11-10
My kids (ages 3 & 18 months) love this cd. It has all their favorite songs from the tv shows!!!
Why would you buy this cd?.......2006-04-30
If your kids like the Disney shows they will love this cd. Each song is a theme song, or a popular one from a popular Playhouse Disney show. Your kids will ask you to play this at home, in the car, wherever. It's a great collection that brings back good memories of good shows.
Jam With More Recent Playhouse Disney.......2006-03-21
"Imagine and Learn with Music" is the newest collection of songs from the Disney Channel's morning lineup, Playhouse Disney. It features music from many of Playhouse Disney's newer shows, plus some old classics that still air on Playhouse Disney.
Shows included on this album that have never been heard on a Playhouse Disney compliation album before are "JoJo's Circus," "Higglytown Heroes," "Breakfast with Bear," "The Koala Brothers, "The Doodlebops" and "Little Einsteins."
By far, the standout is "JoJo's Circus." Even though this show already has two albums of its own out, this album includes four "JoJo's Circus" songs not available on those albums, the best being a cute, cheerful little tune called "Clown Around." Also noteable is that this album includes three songs from "Breakfast with Bear" (The guy who does the voice for Bear is a wonderful singer, although it's a shame this series doesn't include our other friends from the Big Blue House.) This CD also includes both the "Koala Brothers" theme song and the wonderful "Helping Song" from that show.
Also included on this CD are three songs by They Might Be Giants. These songs aren't directly connected with any show, but sometimes air in-between Playhouse Disney programming. They Might Be Giants are rather popular these days and these songs are pretty fun.
As has been mentioned, this CD is missing two songs that were listed for it. Those two songs are both from "Breakfast with Bear" and they are "Get Ready" and "Thanks for Having Breakfast with Bear." This mistake was corrected in the liner notes and these songs were replaced with two "Bear in the Big Blue House" songs --- "Woodland Valley Cha-Cha" and "We're All Different."
I give this CD four stars mainly because of recycling. Several of the tunes on it have been heard on past albums and there are so many other songs they could have used instead of recycling material. Otherwise, it's a wonderful album.

Album Description
MAKE LEARNING FUN With songs that your child already knows and loves
NURSERY RHYMES IN BOTH ENGLISH AND GERMAN
Your child hears the words in English and in GERMAN!
BOTH MUSIC AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES HAVE A POSITIVE EFFECT ON YOUR CHILD'S ABILITY TO LEARN
The experiences that a child receives in the first few years after birth are crucial to his or her ability to learn later in life. Connections between neurons are formed during infancy and early childhood. These connection or "synapses" constitute the wiring system of the brain. Studies have shown that both music and exposure to a foreign language stimulate these synapses. In addition, experts recognize that early exposure to a foreign language makes learning easier. In fact, emerging research has linked higher SAT scores, enhanced creativity and problem solving skills to a child's proficiency in a foreign language.
An ability to speak more than one language not only improves learning and creativity; it enhances greater understanding and awareness of people from different cultures.
So be a Global Village Kid and open the door to a bigger world!
The lyrics were translated literally, to the extent possible. Slight adjustments to the pronunciation of some words were musically necessary.

Painful!.......2007-06-12
The singer's voice and her rolling "r's" are absolutely painful...and so is the German!
The CD deserves no star, just a swift kick in the garbage.
DO NOT BUY.......2007-05-13
i've never written a review before but i feel the need to issue this warning: another reviewer said that the singer had an accent and really, the german is so bad it is almost impossible to understand. there is no way a child will learn german from this cd. it is actually quite shocking- i'm not sure what the producers of the cd were thinking, they entirely missed the point. the music itself is highly unoriginal and cloying too. sincerely wish i could return this one.
I wish I had listened to the tracks...........2007-01-09
This lady's voice will drive you to tears. Please save yourself the torture.
Although, it is fun to hear these songs in German. German is so fun!! But this lady's voice just kills it for me.
... and that's still one star more than it deserves........2006-11-20
Whoever translated it, did so one word at a time, which not only means that the syllables don't match and you can't sing it to a tune designed for another language, but it also means that, because German grammar and sentence structure are different to English grammar and sentence structure, much of it no longer makes any sense.
What's worst though is that they chose a singer who apparently does not speak German. If the words weren't printed in the CD booklet, half the time I wouldn't know what the woman is talking about; her pronunciation is appalling.
What a waste of money. I bought this to have my son hear other people than myself use German, but now I'm wondering whether I should sell it used to some other poor, naive and trusting person online or whether I should simply toss it in the garbage.
northwest mom.......2006-09-18
my kids love it. I put it on in the car while driving. I know it isn't the best learning tool to teach 'exact' German, but my kids are familiar with the American tune, and remembers it because of it. I know they are 'learning' the foreign words when they say and sing back/ repeat the german tuned words.

With a grandfatherly voice reminiscent of Burl Ives, Hap Palmer delivers another musical collection of healthful lessons geared toward the preschool set. The title song in this case refers lightheartedly to a question posed to the child participant in a lesson in distinguishing between fantasy and reality. Other songs focus on such topics as the recognition of colors, learning the days of the week, and understanding the concept of opposites. Engaging the child in participatory song and movement, Palmer's tranquil collection strives to teach, entertain, and occupy simultaneously. The liner notes include the lyrics and activity objectives for each song, which is helpful for a parent or preschool teacher when guiding children through the music. --Bryony Angell

We love this CD.......2007-03-08
My children dance and love this CD. We listen to it in the car and I love it. Hap Palmer CDs were introduced to us at a Music class for my children and he really has cute songs. There is only one song on the entire CD that I don't like (MONDAY MONDAY..)
One of the best CD's in our child's collection.......2002-03-13
Hap is really a marvalous musician and lyricist. His word play is very fun for the kids and very singable for the adults. I recommend him highly for any children under 5 or 6 but especially for those who are looking stretch from the nursery rhymes and first songs style collections.
Simple, yet very powerful learning is going on here . . .my daughter really, really tunes in to this CD . . .I'm sure yours will too.
Stand out for my daughter are the Weekly Rap . .she likes it when they go really fast at the end . ..Can a Cherry Pie Wave Goodbye? and the Animal Quizes .. and her latest fav is the Opposites song. My fav is Pocketful of B's . .which I find myself sometime playing when the kids are not in the car! Egads!
Kids learn with every song!.......2000-03-19
I came across this tape in my school's resource room and my 1st graders love it! Some of the songs are more for kindergarten or even pre-K, but my kids LOVE the title song and have made up their own using rhyming words, which has been great!
They also LOVE the Weekly Rap...they literally (eek!) go nuts over it! Kudos to Hap, I will have to check out his others!
Hap Palmer has done it again!.......2000-03-13
I teach a Kinder-Gym class for preschoolers and "Cherry Pie" is the cornerstone of my whole program! We use the parachute for "Put a little color on You", and we use the beanbags for warmup activities with the "Beanbag Alphabet Rag"... Then the fun REALLY begins! The children love the friendly, lively tone of the music, and I enjoy singing and moving along with Hap. Best of all, Many of the songs, once memorized can turn a long wait on an errand into a fun, educational break! This one's a hit with me!
