I've often found myself humming the Oldham Tinkers songs over the years even though I long lost the record player to play them on. Like all good folk, there's history and sweet sadness in their songs, balanced - this is Lancashire after all - with a fine dose of nonsense. Some may find their dialect a little difficult to follow at times, but that's the pure joy of real language. Here are songs about poor boys who find themselves suddenly wrenched from home and deposited in wartime France, songs about child laborers and songs of unrequited love and not forgetting of course, songs of errant ferrets causing mischief at functions. A fine collection.
