David Krakauer is hands-down one of the most exciting clarinetists performing today, a guy as comfortable playing the trad-inspired tunes of the Klezmatics as he is interpreting New Music maverick Luciano Berio. Consider A New Hot One to be somewhere in between those two sonic poles. Klezmer warhorses such as "The Russian Shers" and "Sirba" are infused with all the nervous energy Krakauer and his red-hot ensemble can muster. Mark Stewart's electric guitar and Ted Reichman's accordion seem to fit perfectly into these wild jazz arrangements, while Kevin Norton's light-and-fast attack on the drums holds the group together. This isn't music for the faint of heart. The title track doesn't just swing, it erupts into a mind-boggling frenzy of clarinet, guitar, and drums. Other tunes simmer with equal power; rootsy intros segue into swirling clarinet solos that snowball with intensity. Somehow, these New Yorkers have done the impossible, creating one of the most inventive, soulful, and powerful Klezmer discs since the days of Naftule Brandwein. Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!.......2006-02-02

I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.

At LAST the complete series ORIGINAL soundtrack, the wait is over!.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

A DISAPPOINTMENT.......2002-01-04

This guy can play very high & very loud. All the time. I'm not impressed. Frenzies are nice & exciting, but every piece? Such an easy way out insults his audience. We hear you, and it ain't pretty! OK, this CD is not bad, just tedious. Showy. I like raw energy, but I'm not convinced by Krakaer's desperate tone. His ideas start out interesting, even funky, but compositionally, nothing develops. His technique, though accomplished, relies on 1 or 2 tricks (shticks) that become predictable, monotonous, and lack subtlety. If you want a true jazz clarinet virtuoso who will knock your socks off with authenticity, zest, warmth, wit, intelligence, and heart, with a band as alive as him, you're better off checking out the old Bechet recordings.

An Incredible Album!.......2001-05-22

This is one of my favorite CDs of all time! A wonderful mix of Jazz, Rock and Klezmer styles. The wailing clarinet contrasting with a grounded beat and cool rifs makes this a must have. Krakauer is an incredible clarinetist with incredible ideas, one of the best clarinetists of today. If you like the Klezmatics or the Klezmer Conservatory Band, be sure to check this out. Krakauer has outdone himself! Wow!

Double Your Pleasure With Two Of Country's Best.......2000-06-26

This is too good to be true. Just hearing Johnny Bush or Darrell McCall singing solo is a fantastic treat. But, the two of them singing together is just incredible. Each of these men possess overwhelming voices and to put their voices together is almost more than I can take. Their voices blend so great together, the only word to describe it is, overwhelming. It's almost too good to handle. Not only do we get two of country music's best voices ever, but, also some of the best country-dancing music around. Unbelievable!
