We were given one from these series of CDs for babies and our daughter loves it, so we bought this one. It is a really nice collection of soft music and we usually play it in the car. A great addition to your baby's music collection.

5 out of 5 stars Baby Neptune.......2006-03-18

I love all of the Baby Einstein DVD's, so the music CD has been just as good as the DVD's. I play it all the time when my son is in the car and it seems to calm him and keep his attention. I even listen to it in the car when my son is not with me. It is relaxing and soothing.

4 out of 5 stars Baby Neptune Review.......2006-01-17

Our daughter loves the Baby Neptune CD. It makes for a relaxing musical interlude for long car trips.

Album Description

We first saw The Ebb and Flow perform at the Hotel Utah (San Francisco) with The Bother in 2004. Sitting on the balcony, totally blown away by the synchronized rhythms bouncing off of the stage, we knew that they would be a perfect fit with Three Ring Records!

Packaged beautifully in a cardboard sleeve and letterpressed with Mint Green and Chocolate Brown ink, this album will make a great addition to any music lover's collection!

Highlights from the album include the epic, two-part, 10-minute opener "Sonorous" and a closing track with cameo appearances by the legendary (late) Bob Moog speaking on analog sound.

5 out of 5 stars the Ebb and Flow rock my world!.......2006-01-16

This has been the only album I've listened to in the last year that really stuck with me. I listen to it in the car whenever I am driving on a long trip even though I don't have a car stereo.
The songs are very good and unpredictable but also pleasant in an almost pop way.
They pop! It's a really fun record and I whole heartedly recommend it to anyone who really really listens.

5 out of 5 stars This is one of the best cds that I have heard lately!.......2005-10-11

I read a review in Girlfriends magazine which gave this album an A+ and described it as a must buy. Highly recommended!

The name Steve Roach has been synonymous with ambient music for years. His latest excursion into late-night musical improvisations explores the purely ethereal side of his signature style without percussion, except for the second track, "Spirit Moves." Even there, the rhythmic propulsion is gentle. The six compositions making up this 74-minute epic have been fashioned from Ebow, electric guitar, and various digital processing gear. Yet, while the instrumental origins of the album are electric and electronic, the end results are organic, as if they were literally streaming forth from the composer's subconscious. As with many Roach recordings, the music twists and weaves in abstract ways, traversing a ghostly path through one's imagination. As an aural narcotic, it is certainly an effective stress-reliever. Although the guitar sounds add a fresher element to Streams & Currents, the album ultimately does not break much new ground in this composer's massive catalog, but Roach's disciples will certainly find much to enjoy while journeying along its shadowy sonic trails. --Bryan Reesman

4 out of 5 stars Not His Best Work, But Worth Having.......2006-07-14

'Streams and Currents' does not compare to 'Dreamtime Return' (1988) or 'On Ritual Ground' (1992) or any of his other, more original works, but it is still worth having. I listened to this album at Silver Platters before I bought it, and read the accompanying notes on the screen. It said that 'Streams and Currents' had no overdubbing, that they were basically recorded on one take, and for that reason alone I was not disappointed. Roach's work is consistent, focused and spontaneous, just the way I like it. I learned today that he is responsible for a MIDI sequence code that other ambient artists use--he really knows what he is doing with his synthesizers. All jargon aside, this album along with his better works are theraputic: I use them to relax, to fall asleep and to meditate. I'm not into vocals during these times, just pure ambience. Anything else included in the background, such as rhythmic home-made drums or the pleasingly bent pitches of his guitar licks are all part of the plan.

'Streams and Currents' is just another delicious flavor of ice cream for the mind. 'Quiet Music' and 'Mystic Chords & Sacred Space' are my two favorite alternate flavors, not counting the must-have 'Dreamtime Return.' I'm planning on getting 'Immersion: One', the first in a planned series of eight discs that are each one track over 70 minutes long of more tantalizing electronic bliss, along with 'Mantram', which I also gave a pre-listening to. Highly preferred over the works he does with Vidna Obmana, which are utterly too dark for my interests. Roach also works well with Michael Stearns and Kevin Braheny ('Desert Solitare,' for instance).

5 out of 5 stars Ethereal Ambient Musique Perfectionado!.......2005-02-03

Steve Roach is the master at ambient and ethereal sounding music. On this album he took basic instruments such as guitars and the such and dostorted and changed notes and made other alterations to create a new world of ethereal beauty. With the exception of my favourite track (the over twenty minute "Spirit Moves") there are no drums. This is the kind of music that will calm, inspire, and project your mind, body, and soul into another dimension of feeling and wonderment. The music will take its time getting to where it's going and it is purely amazing.

4 out of 5 stars subtle beauty.......2005-01-17

I appreciate the more subtle nature of this cd which is predominantly on tracks 4,5 and 6. When listened to closely, there are truly some beautiful moments on this cd.

2 out of 5 stars Eh........2003-08-01

Eh. Thats basically my response to this work by Roach. It just didn't do anything for me. Some people really liked this one, but I just found it uninspiring---it just didn't grab me like some of his other albums. The treated guitar sounds were a bit annoying at times. Still you may think it worth having if you're a Roach fan.

5 out of 5 stars Stream and currents to carry your mind and soul.......2002-09-30

Roach's second guitar based work proves that is it not always the equipment or instrumentation that makes the artist or his works. Primarily known as a master of the synthesizer, Roach's guitar worlds flow with just as much emotion and impact as his classic 'Structures from Silence'.

With only one track containing any sense of rhythm, the album is a blissful drift, like the title suggests of gently flowing waters of emotion and currents of meditation.

Upon hearing, some might wonder if it actually is a guitar being used, as the signature Roach sound treatments apply to morph the sound away from any conventional guitar tonality.

A fantastic late night disc.

5 out of 5 stars Very High Quality Recording.......2000-04-07

From the liner notes (which include a picture of him holding as wooden head):

"Gordon Hempton seeks out the last places on planet Earth that are free from noise created by human disturbances. Then, as one might compose a picture, he carefully positions himself to capture the perfect balance of the earth's delicate melodies. Using a "human" microphone affectionately known as "Fritz", to place the listener in a wilderness ampitheater, he shares the three-dimentional experience of being there."

5 out of 5 stars The ultimate party-killer, but Very Relaxing!.......1999-09-27

I enjoy this CD a lot! This is an excellent recording of surf and water (and a few buzzing bees on "Sand Dune"). It is the aural experience of visiting a beautiful coastline. The first track is a 30 second tone to set the volume. The second track is 20 minutes of clearly recorded ocean surf. No shrimp boats, no bonfires on the beach, no traffic, no TV, just the relaxing sound of the waves. The remaining tracks are recordings taken from different locations near the ocean.

This CD is also a great way to tell your guests when it's time to go home. I had a party that went on until about 3AM (we were playing mostly Rock music). I put this CD in the changer and several people commented on the quality of the recording and how good the ocean sounded. 5 minutes later, everyone was excusing themselves to go home to bed!

    5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2002-04-23

I saw Zweig play in New York in a small club where he packed drums, bass, himself on guitar and vocals, two string players, and two or three horn players all on a little stage. It was practically an event, instead of just the standard East Village rock show. Totally moving. I bought his disc after the show.

The record at times is a lush work with full string and horn sections, other times it just rocks out, and other times it's quiet acoustic--just him and his guitar. Yet somehow, it all ties together. Like the reviewer below "Long Slow Burn" is like nothing I've ever heard before in my life, it just destroys me. Really a beautiful record.

    5 out of 5 stars Awe Inspiring.......2002-04-15

I found this disc to be non-specific upon first listen. On the recommendation of a friend, I listened again, only I turned it up and tuned everything else out. David grabbed hold of me and we dove head first into the story of a young man coming to terms with his frustrations, insecurities, fears, loves and emotions in between.

I found it easy to relate to what the singer was trying to work through. I found it a great relief to know that this musical mad scientist feels the same way I do, the only difference is the masks we wear to hide our fears.

With the ache of his voice, to the rupturing horns, I found it important to listen to the truths he spoke. Never has a cd so changed the way I view myself and those around me.

This is the most important disc that I own.

5 out of 5 stars If you like The Flaming Lips and My Bloody Valentine.......2002-04-14

This album is on the level of The Soft Bulletin. It surpasses that of Good Morning Spider and approaches that of Loveless.

Zweig is a gifted, young musician who has a Kevin Shields ear for layering complex sounds, and a Billy Corgan sensibility for melody and production. All Now With Wings is one of those albums you can listen to a year after purchasing it and still notice nuances you'd previously overlooked.

I bought this cd when I purchased Abbey Road, and although I love Abbey Road, All Now With Wings remained in my cd carousel far longer. Songs like "Fall Apart," "Anything and Everything," and "Long Slow Burn" are among the most important, seldom heard rock songs of this era. I've truly, never heard anything quite like them, and, they're still extraordinarily accessible. Same goes for the opus "Time is Moving."

Zweig is an enormous talent who I genuinely hope garners the attention of some major labels, as I believe, judging from his songwriting abilities, future output from him could be truly groundbreaking.

      Album Description

BIRTH, the first Rock Ambient collection from DIGITAL ACTIVITY, takes ambient music to new heights. Each track is a musical journey or soundscape, freed from the strict confines of pop song structure. They have texture and concept; they ebb and flow; twist and turn; loud to soft; and frantic to soothing, all in one piece of music.

Traditionally, ambient music is a non-intrusive audio background played at low volume. It's supposed to calm your senses. It used to be the sound of waves on the shore, wind in the trees and "Music for Airports." Nowadays it might be electronic beeps and buzzes with sweeping filters against a lifeless beatbox (zzzzzz).

BIRTH'S Rock Ambient is all of that, and more—more edge, punch and guitars. You can crank it up for an aural assault, but you can also listen to it as an ambient background at low volume. Either way you go, it will stick in your head because there's always a melody entwined within the layers.

The seven tracks on BIRTH portray our personal journeys. Each one is an adventure to a totally different musical place. They are narratives that can be as calm as a zephyr or as turbulent as a tornado, with electronic currents, Gaelic traces and even the babble of traditional Bulgarian singers. "Tribes" digitizes ethnic themes into a homogenous whole while "March of the Timeless" is an echo of a simpler musical time progressing to an insistent contemporary pace. Each of BIRTH'S ingenious sonic themes present the listener with a journey from the classic and familiar, to the edgy and outrageous. Check it out!
