5 out of 5 stars audley freed has never sounded better!.......2007-04-08

this is by far the best black crowes release, for no other reason than it contains the best playing of audley freed's career! the rest of the band sounds great, too, but audley shines above all of them.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Crowes.......2007-02-07

Its been a while since I've been compelled to review anything but these discs have blown me away from the moment I put them on. Always have been a big fan and have been gradually disappointed with everything from 3 Snakes on.

BOTH of these CDs rock. The Band disc is simply an amazing album that holds up to their greatest work. Another Roadside is one of the best rock songs I've heard in months. Why this didn't come out instead of the mediocre By The Way is totally beyond my comprehension.

I went in thinking "why do I need another Amorica" because I already love that album. But the different takes on the album are great... a bit softer and smoother. And the unreleased gems buried in the middle are simply great rock songs.

Lets hope the brothers Robinson can recreate some of this magic with their new album in the works!

5 out of 5 stars A must-have for any fan.......2007-01-11

This set of recordings not only sounds great, but it's an excellent look at the earlier versions of songs from Amorica. Fans may recognize some of the previously unreleased songs on disc 1, since a few have been staples of the live show. It's great to hear recorded versions.
All in all, new Crowes is good Crowes...even if the songs are 10 years old...

4 out of 5 stars The Lost Crowes (The Black Crows: The Tall Sessions).......2007-01-06

Plain and Simple. If you're a Black Crowes fan get this recording.

If you're new to the Black Crowes start with the first three albums than try this one. You'll appreciate it a lot more.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Crowes!.......2006-12-13

I couldn't wait to get my hands on these. Getting two CDs from one of your favorite bands is always special. I drooled in anticipation for weeks when I heard this was coming (and it's not just over the brothers... well, maybe a little bit.) The recordings are great and it's nice hearing some of the songs done in a different way.

What a fantastic collection. Feathers, Wyoming and Me, My Heart's Killing Me. I can never hear Descending, Cursed Diamond, Wiser Time enough. Chris always does a stellar job singing, screaming, enjoying himself as he gives his all to everything. Love those hot, groovin' Crowes's jams. I have to say that I did miss "Esta es la mejor mota" at the end of High Head Blues--I always looked forward to that little line.

Contrary to what the words of Wiser Time say, you guys part the sea every time you play. Thanks for the Crowegasm.

5 out of 5 stars Garth is Great.......2007-07-13

If you are nostalgic for the early Garth, buy this CD. But I may be biased; I love most of his stuff...

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2006-05-19

What an absolutely fantastic album!!!

I live in the UK and therefore was unable to buy the album in any shop (including ASDA which is owned by WalMart).

I therefore had it shipped to me from America via eBay. The first CD was lost in customs and therefore a second one was sent out.

It took 7 weeks to get it but let me tell you it was well worth the wait!!!

This is one of the best (if not the best) Garth albums you can get for the money.

It's fresh, exciting and addictive. I've not been able to stop playing this in my car at full volume. I've had the CD for 2 weeks and pretty much know all the words because I've played it so many times.

My favourite songs are:

Cowgirl's Saddle
My Baby No Esta Aqui
Good Ride Cowboy

In fact all of them!!!

I Hope this helps but if you're still not sure I've got one last thing to say:

BUY IT ANYWAY - YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

4 out of 5 stars Back in the Saddle.......2006-05-03

Garth Brooks' 'The Lost Session' finds the all-time best-selling cowboy singer back in fine form. Here, like on 'Scarecrow,' Garth has rediscovered fine songwriting and musicianship. The songs' quality harkens back to the early days, yet manages to move forward at the same time. (Lost is any evidence of his middle years when he hit bottom with recordings like 'Fresh Horses'.) Just like 'Scarecrow,' the music is crisper. If anything, the songwriting is even a notch higher and more varied. Garth, fortunately, took his time. (Notice that there are sixteen songs here, so he hasn't taken his fans for granted.) In other ways he pulls out all stops.

The C.D. kicks off with "Good Ride Cowboy," a worthy rodeo song that is nearly as good as his original "Rodeo". However, "My Baby No Esta Aqui," is even better with playful lyrics and a ho-down back up that would leave the liveliest dancer panting. Throughout he captures many styles and gives the C.D. more variety than usual. Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top come to mind when listening to "I'll Be the Wind," but he also comes up with a fine orchestrated patriot song with "American Dream".

Not only does he do well with hot new country, but he also puts in some good ballads. "You Can't Help Who You Love" is good, and he and his newlywed bride, Trisha Yearwood, sing an engaging duet on "Love Will Always Win," a song that's spiritual and philosophical and not just about romance. Garth also waxes philosophical on "I'd Rather Have Nothing," a heartfelt song that couldn't be more sincere, even if he is the closest contender to the Beatles' royalties. Not everything is serious, though. "Under the Table," is clever enough, even if it doesn't hold a candle to his best drinking songs, "Two Pina Coladas" and "Friends in Low Places". He also gets playful with songs like the fine "That Girl Is a Cowboy". There are even two remakes: "Fishin' in the Dark," which he does well, and "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream," which is done alright, but is a good (and surprising) choice.

In my opinion, the album's finest moment is the middle part of "Allison Miranda". Here the musicians take off in flight without any vocals. It shows how much Garth has been a spirited and careful craftsman to give us some of his finest material in years.

5 out of 5 stars Its Garth..........2006-04-08

Think about it Garth fans... If you're here, looking at the reviews for this CD, you already love Garth. These are mostly older songs that were in the vault with a couple new ones thrown in for good measure. Never-the-less, it sounds just like we would all want a new Garth album to sound like. Its got honkey-tonk, ballads, rockers, and good re-makes. Its Garth, all the way through.
I would like to spend a little more time reviewing this CD, like I have many others, but it doesnt need it. If you are a fan, you'll like it. If not, dont worry about it. Go look for a CD by an artist that you do like. Just for good measure, I can tell you that Garth uses the same great crew of studio musicians on this that he has on every CD in the past. These guys are as tight as they come. Might not be a better studio-only band in Nashville. Or anywhere for that matter.
In closing, Id like to know where that other reviewer found the new box-set for $40.00, since it was only $25.00 at Wal-mart. And unless you go to Ebay and pay some cheating seller too much money, Wal-Mart is the only place you can buy it. So for the price of one more disc, you might as well get the whole box set anyway. The Lost Sessions disc in the Box is the original. This one is a re-release with 6 more songs on it.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Garth.......2006-03-07

I must be behind as I just saw this album at Walmart for the first time this morning. While I don't know how lost the 'lost' sessions actually were, this is still a good buy at $11.88 at Walmart and near that everywhere else.

The first song "Good Ride Cowboy" was a #1 hit and is a pretty good song. Personally I think 'That Girl Is A Cowboy' is a better song. There was a big to-do about the duet with Trisha Yearwood which I personally think was overrated as the song isn't bad but it isn't worth all the hype that any duet with Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks gets.

Overall, I think this is a good buy for any Garth Brooks fan that didn't feel the need (like me) to spend $40+ for the Limited Edition to get a small handful of new songs if you already have all of his albums.

I gave this 5 stars as I truly enjoyed this cd and look forward to when (if?) Garth comes out of retirement and starts recording again.

There has been no lack of previously unissued material by the late Stan Getz coming out on CD, but the opportunity to get a further taste of the great tenor saxophonist's exceptional final period is not to be passed on. Recorded two months before his death in 1989 (and two years after the brilliant club dates documented on Anniversary and Serenity), Bossas and Ballads finds him in top form, continuing his memorable association with pianist Kenny Barron. Produced for A&M by Herb Alpert, but shelved in favor of the synthesizered Apasionado, this is vintage Getz: cool and relaxed but possessed of a sneaky explosive power. The man's lyricism could be devastating, and knowing he would be soon gone adds to the potency of his expression on songs such as "Sunshower" (one of five tunes by Barron), Mal Waldron's "Soul Eyes" and Sam Rivers' "Beatrice." A quarter century after spearheading the bossa nova movement in America, he brings a bit less lilt to the form, but more body, never resting on his inventions. --Lloyd Sachs

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2006-09-18

I would just like to advice people to pick up this great title. I listened to it through today again and I urge to you - please listen to the whole CD through. It is really very very beautiful music and things start to get really cosy after song 4. It is more straight jazz than "Bossas" which I think is used more for marketing purposes to tie in with the successful Bossa recordings by Getz.
The trio surrounding Getz is really very fine indeed. Barron's solos stand out and the recording is first rate!!
get it!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Stan Getz Ever.......2005-04-11

This is a gem of a record, as the performances by Stan Getz, George Mraz, Kenny Barron and Victor Lewis are just superb. To think that it was a lost recording because of the not-so-serious other Stan Getz pop recording of the time is a tragedy. This CD exemplifies Stan Getz's artistic talents at its best!

5 out of 5 stars SUPER COOL GETZ.......2005-02-04

Very sophisticated and super smooth.

Although the songs were recorded in 1989 two years before his death, this record shows that Stan Getz never lost his touch. The emotion that pours from his sax on this record is unbelievably moving. Listen to in particular "Soul Eyes" and "The Wind". If you are a fan of his music go buy it. You will not be disappointed!

4 out of 5 stars Lost.....But Thankfully Found!.......2004-08-24

Near the end of his life I had the opportunity to hear Stan Getz perform live at Carnegie Hall with a quartet that featured pianist Kenny Barron. Getz then (as he is also quoted in the liner notes of this CD) referred to Barron as "the other half of my musical heart." Quite a compliment indeed! Along with Chick Corea, who performed with Getz on the superb recordings "Sweet Rain" and "Captain Marvel," Barron was a perfect match for the lyrical Getz. In addition to this session Getz and Barron recorded in a quartet setting at least three other times; these sessions are available on the CDs "Anniversary," "Serenity," and "Soul Eyes." I am glad to own all four. You will be too!

5 out of 5 stars This is a great album.......2004-08-18

If you like Stan Getz, this album is a must for your collection. It swings between the sultry with bossas and latin overtones in many heretofore unheard tunes. Well worth the price, with Kenny Barron on piano, George Mraz (?) on bass and Victor Lewis on drums. Unhurried, produced by Herb Alpert, and that says a bunch right there.

5 out of 5 stars There Were 5 Essential Butterfield Albums, Now Make It 6. (and now 3 of them are must haves)........2007-04-01

This album is a rare, and precious gem that fits quite comfortably between the first album, and East-West. The people at Elektra discovered that sometimes true gold can be found without digging in a gold mine. And they struck real gold, not fools gold. And on the list of gems are songs like Spoonful, Everything's Gonna Be Alright (which I haven't heard since the release of Woodstock 2), Mellow Down Easy (the only repeat out of 19 songs), Rock Me, and Poor Boy. This is not only to be added to the Essentials list, but the top 2 must haves have now become three.

1 out of 5 stars I love this, almost as much as their first one.......2007-01-05

Not enough Bloomfield guitar, but his keyboard playing fits in well. Butterfield and drummer Sam Lay are on fire, while Elvin and Jerome do a fine job, as usual.

5 out of 5 stars THe Original Lost Elektra Sessions.......2006-11-10

Beautiful archival music from the masters of seminal white electric blues Paul Butterfield and Mike Bloomfield.

4 out of 5 stars A great blues recording........2006-01-03

I have heard the white vs. black bluesman argument for years and years. I've always felt that it isn't the color of the skin that's important when it comes to the music but rather the soul of the musician. Given that, this is a great blues album by a band of soulful bluesmen. Butterfields harp is as hot as ever and the guitars of Bloomfield and Bishop are the epitome of the blues. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band were one of the greatest blues bands ever assembled and this recording is evidence of that fact. My only question is how this music has gone unheard for all of these years?

4 out of 5 stars Why was this music scrapped?!.......2003-10-05

Even though this page only lists five tracks, "The Original Lost Electra Sessions" is not an EP, it's a 19-track CD.

All but one of these 19 tracks were recorded in December, 1964, as Paul Butterfield's projected first LP, but the results were (inexplicably) scrapped and replaced by the band's official self-titled debut, cut a few months later.

With both Sam Lay, Elvin Bishop and Mike Bloomfield already onboard, these sessions are very similar in feel to the Paul Butterfield Blues Band's first album. It's perhaps a little bit rawer in production and performance, but not really worse or different than what ended up on the actual debut LP.

Dedicated primarily to electric Chicago blues standards, it opens with a somewhat rushed take on "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl", followed by a great "Just To Be With You" with some sublime harp playing by Paul Butterfield.

Butterfield also does a pretty good Sonny Boy Williamson (II) on a faithful rendition of "Help Me", and there are many more highlights, including an excellent rendition of the classic blues shuffle "Poor Boy", a slow, smouldering "It Hurts Me Too", an alternate version of the fine original "Our Love Is Drifting", a great, swinging "Take Me Back Baby", Jimmy Rogers' "That's All Right", and yet another Tampa Red-tune, "Love Her With A Feeling".
The band also lay down a really good version of Jimmy Oden's "Goin' Down Slow", and the originals "Lovin' Cup" and the fiery instrumental "Nut Popper #1" are excellent.

Virtually everything here is worth a listen, actually. It's not highly original, but The Paul Butterfield Blues Band's versions of these classic Chicago blues tunes are among the best and most convincing blues music ever waxed by a (primarily) white blues band. And any serious blues guitar lover will want to hear Mike Bloomfield's supremely tasty, economical playing.

Paul Butterfield fans will find this album well worth acquiring, as most of the selections were never officially recorded by the band's original lineup.
Great, classic blues.

    Album Description

2006 compilation of mostly unreleased recordings by one of the great unsung bands of the '60s. The Mirage have an upbeat, harmony-laden approach akin to 1966 era Beatles and the Hollies. Many songs, mostly self-penned, were storytelling, observational songs. The Mirage signed to Dick James Publishing and served as the house band for a penny or two, including sessions backing Elton John during his embryonic song writing days. Indeed later on, following the bands break up in 1968, Mirage guitarist Dee Murray then joined Elton Johns own band for his run of classic early 70's albums and tours. 24 tracks total including 'Go Away', a previously unreleased demo featuring lead vocals from Graham Nash (then of The Hollies). RPM.

    Album Description

The kids of 1958 loved 'em, and their first single for Cadence Records shot up the charts like a label owner's dream. This is the fantastic and fiery album that was supposed to have been released as a follow-up to one of the all-time great, instrumental classics, "Rumble." But faster than you can say "Drag Race," everyone was talking about the new threat to the morals of American youth -- Cadence label-owner Archie Bleyer included. That's why Link and his boys were off the imprint, and this album of his prime-era, distorto-guitar-crunch cool remained unreleased for nearly 50 years! At long last, here it is, and it's every bit as dirty and dangerous as you would expect!

Recorded during a brief stopover in London on June 25, 1973, these unprepossessing studio performances, despite (or maybe because of) the heavy compression (particularly on the drums) and a mixed-on-the-fly feel, convey far more of the edgy, go-for-broke energy, ferocious solo intensity, and telepathic interplay of Mahavishnu's peak 1973 live shows than their only live album (the August 12, 1973, Central Park performance caught on Between Nothingness & Eternity). McLaughlin's extended forms, "Dream" and "Trilogy," are made up of hyperkinetic blues vamps, classical elements from both the Western art music and Carnatic traditions, shifting minor modes and complex rhythmic cycles, while keyboardist Jan Hammer's "Sister Andrea" adds a welcome touch of funk to the formula. Unreleased tunes by violinist Jerry Goodman and bassist Rick Laird shed new light on their contributions to the band's overall repertoire, and everyone plays like their life depends on it--no one more so than Billy Cobham, whose ability to swing rock rhythms and depict a wide range of dynamic nuances is simply remarkable. Cobham's ferocious exchanges with the guitarist walk the line between Hendrix-style psychedelia and Coltrane-like dervish dances. A thrilling snapshot of fusion's musical possibilities before it all went sour. --Chip Stern

4 out of 5 stars Work In Progress That Was Never Finished.......2007-03-09

This is hardly a finished product ready for commercial release, but that is what makes the CD so good. You hear the makings of what may have been an outstanding final studio album from the original Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Taking a brief respite from an overly ambitious tour schedule, the music was recorded in Trident Studios in London, England, from June 25-29, 1973, with the band in the midsts of fracturing due to artistic and financial squabbles.

The sessions had appeared in bootleg form since the 1970s, but the original unmarked tapes were only stumbled upon by producer Bob Belden in November 1998 while inside Columbia's Los Angeles vault compiling tapes for the reissue of Birds Of Fire.

The track that sounds the most complete is Dream, with a Cream-inspired scorching guitar solo from John McLaughlin and Billy Cobham's Ginger Baker-styled drumming. The theme is repeated again in Trilogy before the band deviates into a less-than-inspiring art rock motif.

Jan Hammer's composition, Andrea, is arguably the track with the most potential, as a restrained Hammer on synthesizer and Cobham introduce a funky rhythm, only to have it stop cold by some spacey guitar work from McLaughlin, which gives way to the neat beat to end the piece. Eliminate McLaughlin's solo and Andrea is fusion that way it ought to sound.

I Wonder, Steppings Stones and John's Song #2 are vastly incomplete pieces, with the latter quite frustrating, as an abrupt ending happens when the band is just getting into a groove.

The project was never revisited and the band played its final concert later in the year in Toledo, Ohio. The sessions were a work in progress that may have been a classic coda from a group that was a leader in defining the 1970s fusion sound.

2 out of 5 stars Lost for a Reason, But This One Grows On You.......2006-06-25

Things are usually lost for a reason. Then, when they show up unexpectedly much later, they take on a significance that, had it been there in the first place, they would not have gotten lost. If you think this last sentence was grammatically rough, you will freak out when you hear "The Lost Trident Sessions."

But then this music grows on you.

From what I've heard of this group (only what's available on Amazon samples, this album and "Birds of Fire"), the best overall selection of music is on "Birds of Fire," an example of what I call drawing room fusion, where Stravinsky's dissonances are EFFECTIVELY woven into a jazz form, which itself mixes Coltrane's wall of sound with rock rifs in a manner that actually complements all of the ingredients. This unique mixture requires (at least) two conditions: (1) the compositions themselves must be good and (2) the dissonance must be accompanied by enough consonance to keep the music from becoming as tedious and overbearing as, well, Stravinsky.

"Birds of Fire" was more affected by hard rock and is, in some ways, less listenable than some of the music on this album. In a word, it is over-composed, but is this way by necessity, given the point at which the music was made - hard rock giving way to jazz fusion. So, for what it was, BOF is a better piece of work than, for what it was, LTS is. Still, LTS is somewhat more advanced because the soloing is more experienced and unrestricted. Had they been able to come up with some more good compositions and edit out some of the excesses, I would prefer LTS to BOF. (Actually, I'd rather listen to LTS because it is much less brutal than BOF overall. It's just that half the songs should have been dumped or improved.)

"Dream," "The Sunlit Path," and "Sister Andrea" are all good compositions. The second one lifts something from the Beatles' treatment of melody, guitar and strings and is far too short and undeveloped. "Steppings Tones" is also quite good and belongs more with BOF. "John's Song" took me some time to like at all, but Goodman's violin work is reflective of the overall evolution of their sound. But, the music itself was constrained compositionally in a way that lead to the band's extinction. And, though I'm not familiar with MO and McLaughlin's work that much after this period, when I listen to McLaughlin's opening track on "Que Alegria," for all of his instrumental virtuosity, he seems quite limited as a composer. On the other hand, he out-Hendrixes Hendrix on his collaboration with Sting on "The Wind Cries Mary" on one of the Hendrix tribute cds. So, you just never know.

4 out of 5 stars These lose sessions are not lost on quality.......2005-12-16

A lot of times, so called "lost sessions" have been known to be of poor recording quality, poor performance or poor compositions, or all.

This is not the case. These ones by the MO arejust a step below the considered classis: Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire.

If the classics get a 8/10, this gets an 8.5/10

By the way, why does Amazon include a 'NO' in 'was this review helpful to you?'. People are only human and don't like opinions that differ from themselves. With some who are less mature, this the 'NO' makes it too easy express such displeasure.

Are they trying to discourage negative reviews, hence not purchase the CD. Such reviews only help a person in not being dissatisfied a product that received positive reviews

4 out of 5 stars impressive album of dynamic rocking jazz fusion...wait, come back!.......2005-11-01

i like my fair share of progreesive rock and have only in recent years been (cautiously) getting into the fusion side of things...exploring bands that, in my opinion, have been pleasantly inspiring (Lifetime) and shockingly trite (Weather Report). Mahavishnu Orchestra takes alot more of a progressive rock approach to writing and playing their songs; yet their jazzy/fusion lines are obvious and are executed with precision and flair. this cd has a powerful and direct edge that pulls me in like a strong ocean current. the melodies are very well-written and the playing is fiery, elegent, and full of intense expressions that blend in seamlessly with the songs...much like the brilliant French avant-prog group Magma. of special interest to me, is the guitar work by the well-known fusion and Miles Davis disciple, John McLaughlin, and the cerebral drum assault of Billy Cobham, who utilizes every ounce of ability to produce some fine and powerful playing. if more so called "fusion" sounded so alive as Mahavishnu Orchestra, i'd be buying more of it.

It's for rabid fans only. Yeah, I like roots (country) rock, especially from guys who really come from the hills - but there was a reason the OMD never re-recorded most of these tunes - they were just Ok. Nothing special. I put my copy up for sale the day after I listened to it.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THERE BEST.......2007-02-10

I FIRST BOUGHT THIS YEARS AGO ON ALBUM,IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF THERE BEST(IN MY OPINION)IT'S CLEAN FOR THE AGE, AND SO RAW! I JUST LOVE THIS ON CD. GREAT SONGS AND IT HAS IT'S OWN MAGIC YOU JUST HAVE TO HEAR IT, VINTAGE FOR SURE.BRINGS BACK ALOT OF GOOD PARTY TIMES.

4 out of 5 stars Totally Surprised and pleased.......2005-04-08

I grew up in the home town of the Daredevils, and I was going to college at SMSU when the Daredevils were just getting things together. American Artists Studios, where this was recorded, was a small but effective recording studio in Springfield, and it was the only thing that artists had in the area. (American Artists also did things like local HS Band concerts, and the like.) However, that sure didn't hurt the sound quality of this compilation.
"Pilot" music such as this first compilation is usually somewhat scant with good cuts scattered about. I was somewhat surprised by some of the songs on this album that never got otherwise released. It's full, with 18 cuts, and almost every one has some value. Some of the cuts became big releases, and it's interesting to hear how they originally did them. Others that didn't get otherwise released will really surprise you in how good they were.
This will be enjoyable music to Daredevil fans, new and old. If you are a OMD fan, you won't want to miss out on this one that has quite a bit of good music that even many die hard Daredevil fans might not have even heard yet.

    4 out of 5 stars What a lucky find!.......2005-02-03

This CD of ozarks outakes from 1972 is a must for fans, although some of the undeveloped demos do not do some of the material justice.

For those of you with the original lp release, this is quite a different set, and although it omits one or two gems, there is much to enjoy.

I was particularly struck by 'Rainbird' and the extended version of 'Sherrifs coming' and there is a great early demo of 'Leatherwood'. The highlight for me is the majestic 'Someday Darlin' re-produced by Larry Lee with John Dillon putting in a soulful vocal performance.

Although these early efforts lack the sophistication of the polished debut release, it's a joy to listen to, revealing lots of good ideas, eclectic material and some great rock/country bluegrass.

The history of the band is also fasinating and I learned that both Paul McCartney and Neil Young are fans - quite an endorsment for one of the great underated bands.

That's one cabin I would have loved to stay in!

5 out of 5 stars What a rare find, indeed!.......2004-01-17

I have this collection of songs on a record album that I bought years ago at a garage sale. The album is warped and scratchy, but I still get it out from time to time and give it a spin. The reason I am willing to subject myself to less than even adequate audio intake, if you will, is because I think the OMD's are different. I've heard comparisons to the Eagles, Firefall, Pure Prarie League, etc., but in my opinion, no other group of poets/musicians has done as good a job of describing what loving life in a down home, yet eloquant way is. Their music is funny, romantic, insightful, and can make your feet tap, which may lead to clogging, drinking wine, and smiling. Although I don't have this CD, yet, I can tell you that I've heard the songs and these "new" songs (the ones from the set that were previously unreleased) are just as good, if not better, than anything else OMD has put out during their long career. If you listen to the daredevils with cult-like admiration...if you have ever stood on a rock with your guitar and played Standing on a Rock...if you have ever compiled Randle Chowning ballads from all your OMD albums, onto cassette tape, so you could play them when you were feeling meloncholy....well, you may have had a little too much time on your hands at some point in your life, but even so, you should definitely get this CD.

5 out of 5 stars "Lord Finesse is the brother that you have to hear...".......2005-08-24

Who dares to say Lord Finesse isn't a great MC? Lord Finesse IS one of the true lyrical champions of the Boogie Down Bronx and well reknown as the "punch-line King". On any great MC list, Finesse's name will be there. From Melle-Mell to KRS ONE to Big Pun, Lord Finesse is well respected as one of the "King MC's of Pelan" (The Bronx). This CD is "classic" Lord Finesse. All it's missing is the original version of "BABY, YOU NASTY", and it would've been a wrap. This is true NYC Boom-Bap at it's best! A must have!

What are you saying??? Lord Finesse was never a great mc? I can only shake my head in disagreement, as will MANY others. Finesse is such a very unique mc, who can't be compared to others. Now...I haven't actually got THIS album, but, as many heads out there will know (and here it is for those who don't), this album is worth getting just for the tracks "you know what I'm about" and "Pull Ya Card" (who else is spitting lyrics like 'Ness on these cuts man?, and you say he was never a great mc? you must be on a drug or two!). These two songs are unmatched lyrically and beatwise. Great for the hard heads, they are absolute classics, and as far as I can recall they only got released on 12" vinyl. This is your chance to finally secure them if you didn't back in the day. If you haven't heard them yet or got them in your collection, do not miss out!!!

3 out of 5 stars Not material to boost Lord Finesse's status.......2004-06-17

I ordered this album expecting to hear some vintage DITC lyrics and rhymes bringing it back to the days of the second golden era, right? Wrong. Lord Finesse was never a great MC, he's dope on the boards though. I will never dispute that. This album high points come when the listener hears Big L voice once again on the tracks "Yes You May" and "You Know What I'm About". Only the latter four tracks of the album may you nod your head in agreement, as for everything else, you'll be shaking your head in dissapointment.
