Customer Reviews:
This CD was Great.......2007-07-27
Being a diehard Korn fan my review might be a little biased, but this cd was great. It made me even more excited to go to there show in August. The only thing that I was unhappy with was the names Jonathon Davis called the audience, but at 29 I may just be too old to understand that or really appreciate it.
KORN LIVE.......2006-11-05
MAINLY TAKEN FROM THE CBGBs FREE GIG. GREAT LIVE SOUND. NOT TOO MANY RARITIES UNFORTUNATELY.
A disappointment........2006-09-30
For years, there was talk of a Korn "rarities" release, even as far back as 1998. Now, in 2006, we finally have gotten one, and well, I'm let down. I'm let down because this disc could have been so much more, and some of the track choices are just plain odd.
One of the major pluses of this disc (and the main reason to buy it) is the inclusion of the band's entire (I think) 2003 concert at the now defunct CBGB in New York City. A DVD of this show is on the "Greatest Hits, Volume 1" CD, and it's an awesome show. And, I must mention that whoever recorded/mixed these live tracks did an awesome job, because they are perhaps the best "live" tracks, sound wise, that I've heard from ANY band/group/person. The vocals and insturments are very clear, and so is the crowd when it needs to be. Fabulous. The only thing I found odd (among other things on this CD) was that the songs were sequenced out of order than the actual show. The first track, "Did My Time", was actually the THIRD track in the show, but I guess they wanted to start the disc with Head telling everyone to step back. Set opener "Right Now" is regulated to the 4th track. Just odd. But the overall is awesome.
Their cover of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" (Parts, 1, 2, and 3, of course) from the 2004 summer tour with Linkin Park follows the CBGB tracks. Like the original (and their official cover), it's overly long and tedious to get through, but a nice addition.
The next two tracks are where things get weird. This is a "Live & Rare" album, correct? Then why are two songs, their live cover of Metallica's "One" (from the MTV "Icon" show) and "Earache My Eye" (with Cheech Marin from Cheech & Chong on backing vocals) are included, despite not being very rare at all. "One" was a hidden track included on EVERY COPY of "Take a Look In The Mirror", and "Earache" was a hidden track included on EVERY COPY of "Follow the Leader". Both tracks can be found by fast forwarding a few minutes past the last track on each CD. So, I must ask, why are they included here? So we don't have to use our finger to fast forward on the CD's we already have? It's not really "Rare" if you can go buy it on a readily available album, is it?
We get two tracks from the band's Woodstock 1999 concert, which is by far the best show they EVER did. Why THAT hasn't been released on DVD is beside me. "A.D.I.D.A.S" and "My Gift To You" (with Jonathan's screaming freak out at the end) round out the live tracks.
Rounding out the disc is "Proud", a great forgotten track from the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" soundtrack. Jonathan's infamous repeated screaming of "WHY!!?? WHY!!??? WHHHHHHHHHHYYYYAAAGGGGHHH!" is awesome.
And, that's it. Just 13 tracks. I'm not sure of the total length of the disc, but I'm sure more could be included. Hell, I think even a 2nd disc would have been perfectly acceptable. After all, not too many non or casual fans will buy a release like this. It's for the die hards, so why not reward them? There are SO MANY tracks that could have been included that weren't. I hate when people do this, but I think it's worth mentioning what this disc COULD have been. We could have had:
Original Studio Demos of "Blind", "Alive", "Predictable" and "Daddy" (yes, they exist, because I have them)
"Sean Olson" (from "The Crow: City of Angels" soundtrack)
"I Can Remember" (B-Side of the "Got the Life" single)
MANY, many remixes/live tracks only available on import singles
"Jingle Balls" (from the "All Mixed Up" EP)
I appreciate including the CBGB concert (the only reason I bought this, other than to support the band), but the rest of this disc is very so-so. It could have been so much more, and it isn't. This is what we get after years of waiting? What a letdown. One thing I really DID like, however, is how the artwork/layout mimics the "Greatest Hits" CD. I don't know why, but I liked that.
Buy it for the CBGB concert, don't get excited about the rest.
fairly good live album but not too many rare songs on it.......2006-08-30
This is a good live album but its not too great. It only has 13 tracks which i think is a bit short for a live album, as for the rare songs the only ones that aren't on other korn albums are the covers of metallica and pink floyd songs(which are great and made the album for me). The recording of the tracks is fantastic and you can hear everything as if your there at a korn show. its a good album but could have been so much better
so-so.......2006-08-08
The following can be said about this album...rare?
All of you who are contemplating the purchase of this album should look the other way. Chances are you already have all of these songs (except maybe Proud). A final thought would be this, 'rare' doesn't even describe the album cover. Turn it 90 degrees counterclock-wise....ever seen George Romero's "Land of the Dead"?

Correction on A. Stuheit "andreaabs" review.......2006-06-23
I think he/she missed out on the track "Freedom" and thus confused it with "Intro(Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos)". That song is NOT "Freedom". The track that A. Stuheit was talking about where Zack shouts out "anger is gift", THAT is "Freedom".
It is "Into....Chaos" which is track 6 that features Chuck D and not "Zapatha's Blood". So the review that he/she was talking about for "Intro...Chaos" is for "Freedom" and the review that was on "Zapatha's Blood" is actually for "Intro...Chaos".
And by the way, this is one of the best live CDs of RATM ever. I have to agree with Stuheit that this live version "Bullet in the Head" is possibly even better than the original version. Tom is outstanding here.
Better than "Live at the Olympic!".......2005-10-31
"Live And Rare" is an import, so it's pricier and harder to come by than Rage's 2003 live album "Live At The Olympic Auditorium." But I still prefer this C.D. to that one.
One advantage, to me, is that frontman Zach de la Rocha talks to the crowd more, here, than on "Live at the Olympic." For instance, before track three begins, Zach tells the light man to get the spotlight out of his eye, then he gives a brief lecture to the crowd about the FBI conflicting with the American Indian Movement (and that Leonard Peltier was thrown in jail for "crimes he did not commit.") Zach also encourages the audience members to write a letter or fill out a pamphlet and send it to "Dixie Crack Clinton" (and "fill that punk's room full of mail").
If, for some reason, you don't like live songs, there are still the two rare studio songs at the end ("Greed" and "Clear The Lane"). Plus, the last four live songs ("Zapata's Blood," "Without A Face," "Hadda Be Playing On The Jukebox," and "F The Police") can't be found on any other Rage album.
The first five live tracks, which taken from Rage's self-titled debut, are all very powerful and great. Some moments are so emotional and urgent, they even make the studio songs seem tame. From the beeping guitar and bass notes to the wild, crazy guitar solo, "Bullet In The Head" is perfectly executed, and, I think, even better than the original! Plus, this song's chorus sounds like it has some backing vocals from Tom Morello. "Settle For Nothing" isn't quite as melodic and restrained as the studio song, but it is still performed very well. Thirdly, "Bombtrack" is played without a hitch. Tom pulls off the tempo change greatly and Zach's rapping is as fluid, fast, and consistent (he is able to rant and rage throughout the whole song without even pausing to take a breath.) This is also the case on the two following songs. Plus, I didn't realize this before, but "Take The Power Back" also features some great musicianship and trippy guitar work (so it must have been quite hard to perform this song live.) And track five, "Intro (Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos") is actually the song "Freedom." On here, Zach doesn't just whisper "anger is a gift"...he yells it!
"Zapata's Blood" begins with the crowd clapping rhythmically. Then Zach introduces a surprise guest (Chuck D. from Public Enemy), who comes out and raps over Tom's wah-wah guitars. Zach also starts a chant of "Everything for everyone, and nothing for myself!"
Next, "Without A Face" begins with Zach comparing the Berlin wall to the wall that separates the U.S. and Mexico. He then explains that Rage wrote this song (which appears on their "Evil Empire" album) when they found out that 1,500 dead bodies have been found there. Zach, Tom, Tim, and Brad also perfectly execute this song.
With just one, repetitive guitar line, "Hadda Be Playing On The Jukebox" is, musically, pretty simple. But this song was not written by RATM; this song (which features lyrics like "the CIA and Mafia are in cahoots") was originally written by the poet Alan Ginsberg. It's a long song, too, so props to Zach for memorizing the whole thing.
Next comes a cover of N.W.A.'s "F The Police." It begins with Zach referring to the song as a "nice, friendly message," and he then dedicates it to the Philadelphia police department. And, with angry rapping and hip-hop sound effects, it seems like Rage were almost meant to play this song.
The first of two b-sides at the end is "Darkness." This song originally appeared on the "Crow" soundtrack. I'm a big Rage Against the Machine fan and even I'll admit that this song isn't that great. Fortunately the lyrics (which deal with governmental greed and lying) are very well written. The other rarity is "Clear The Lane," which has beeping, wah-wah guitars, a grumbling bass, surprisingly calm vocals, and is really quite catchy.
So, "Live And Rare" is a great buy which is absolutely essential for all Rage Against the Machine fans. If you're a diehard and you need another C.D. to listen to, and you don't yet own this...what are you waiting for? This is a pricey but very highly recommended album. And, as aforementioned, you should at least get this for the two rare tracks (even though they aren't Rage's best songs, they're required listening).
awesome.......2005-08-09
Rage against the machine is has been one of the best rock band in the rock world.
I highly recomend live and rare.
The best of the best........2005-07-08
I was always too young to go to a Rage show (thanks Mom) and by the time I could go they had broken up (thanks Zach's ego). This is the closest thing to actually being there or so I've heard. I own all of the albums and live DVDs and this is Rage at their most raw. Tom is still in his prime as a live performer and you can hear it on this record. He improvises on a few songs and just kills it. The band just flows so well together live that it almost sounds like a studio session. The rare tracks are good, but they are not even near the energy level of the live tracks. Plus, the album even features an Allen Ginsberg poem. True Rage fans have to own this to complete the collection.
Better than Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium.......2004-03-12
This "official bootleg" is a telling compilation of various Rage concerts throughout the mid-90s and may represent the final phase of "old school" RATM. What do I mean by old school? From the beginning up until the Evil Empire days, Rage's live concerts emphasized speech and wicked guitar improvisations. Oddly, this sense of adventurism faded out around the time BOLA was released... and it's quite obvious too. The "Bullet in the Head" solo on this disc destroys the one on Grand Olympic Auditorium. "Zapata's Blood" is a recognizable live track to any hardcore Rage fan and this may be the best performance of the song ever. The bonus demo cuts are pretty good, and "F*ck tha Police" is a wild ride. But the real treat is "Hadda be Playing on the Jukebox", an 8 minute poem that tells a story by its guitar work alone.
This CD may not be as accessible to Rage newbies as Grand Olympic Auditorium, but will be an instant classic to true fans.

Just a year after their smash breakthrough debut album--itself still riding high in the charts--the Irish Tenors have added another delightfully varied collection to their discography. Live in Belfast again showcases the group's obvious concert charisma from a performance given in February 2000. It's a generous smorgasbord of medleys, traditional numbers, and songs from popular sources (including "Scorn Not His Simplicity," which Sinead O'Connor has interpreted)--mixing nostalgic sentimentality with selections of bittersweet melancholy. Binding the whole together is the unmistakable stylish charm of the Irish Tenors, whether singing in solos or in ensembles. But the biggest surprise for fans already hooked on the Tenors is the introduction of Finbar Wright as replacement for original member John McDermott. Wright's bright, romantic voice easily wins over a potentially skeptical crowd--especially in the dreamy "Isle of Innisfree"--and blends nicely with his colleagues. (McDermott, who had to bow out of the performance due to the death of his mother, makes a surprise appearance to solo in a memorable and touching "The Last Rose of Summer"--given as a tribute to his parents--and to rejoin the Tenors for "Red Is the Rose.") The arrangements by Tenors producer Frank McNamara are played with zest by the Orchestra Warsaw Sinfonia. --Tom May

Great Music and Outstanding Voices.......2007-03-28
My wife and I saw these tenors live and on stage and we were truly impressed. Their voices blend beautifully and they present a well rounded variety of songs. We so enjoyed the first CD that we bought this current one.
Time for a new one.......2001-10-19
I bought this CD, (plus the video) in July 2000 and listened to it so much I think it must be just about worn out.!!!The video I have seen so often I bet I have seen every idiosyncrasy of each of them. The Tenors are almost my total pastime. About 12 hours a day, listening and viewing. I "met" them July 22/00 and have been to four concerts, and I'm still impressed by the joyous sounds of their voices.
It's been a lomg time since I wrote my last review of this CD, but I hope I have helped to encourage others to enjoy the thrill of the most magnificent voices of their lives.
The Tenor's #1 Fan,,,, Joan Way
Wonderful music, wonderful voices.......2001-05-31
I do not claim to be a musical expert. It has always been my contention that music which makes the listener feel good, which raises the spirits and makes the heart glad, is worthy of being heard. Such is this CD. I don't listen to it to search for flaws, flubs, failings and screw-ups. I listen to it because it makes me happy. I am of Irish ancestry, and this wonderful music stirs a core deep within my soul. I got to hear some traditional Irish folk music I'd never heard before. I would hope that all those who listen to this CD would choose to enumerate its merits based on the fact that this music is meant to lighten the soul. It never was meant to be held up to intense scrutiny, because it is folk music. These are the songs the people sang. They weren't meant to be grand, classical opera, and should not be regarded or critiqued as such. They are beautiful and moving, just as they stand, and I am grateful that God gave these four men such voices to sing these old tunes and to preserve them for the generations to come. God knows we need positive, beautiful music now more than ever.
Professional on professionals.......2001-05-05
I am taking from the best in the world. I have met Pavarotti's teachers (Joan Doanerman and Joan Sutherland) and also take from them. I am very well-known in musical analyzing and teaching. I have read all reviews, and personally, many of you need to learn much more about proper vocal technique to be a critic. The voice must flow, with support (breath), low larynx, etc. All four tenors possess the proper singing qualities. However, stage presence, song interpretation, and musicianship also take into affect. Finbar Wright needs to continue his musicianship. He possesses much more romanticism than he shows. Also, anyone can say words like "texturing, spellbinding and dominance," and sound like a knowledgeable critic. However, these words are thrown into sports review as well. Face it folks, know what you are saying. John McDermott has a beautiful voice, but it is a much different classical style than many people know. John is a Celtic Tenor, which means that his under- and overtones will sound much different than the other three. The symphony is NOT too dominant, David Schierholz. If you have worked with the Met recording studios, than you can talk with me, because I have sat in on them. These are live performances, not takes in a studio. Folks, I am a born and bred Irishman. These men are great, but there needs to be more of there individual literature available. I would love to find Anthony Kearns classical recordings. Then, when you have studied and understand the nature of the voice and theatre, then you can write your reviews.
Tenners for Tenors.......2001-02-16
This cd and video was my introduction to the wonderful "Irish Tenors". Seperately each is spellbinding. Together they are nothing short of magical. Finbar Wright is a dashingly romantic figure while Ronan Tynan is most compelling. Anthony Kearns will be a major star someday in the opera world. His voice is clear and strong. Wright's voice soars in songs such as "Carrickfergus" and "Isle of Innisfree". He seems a bit nervous which is understandable given he had only 10 days to prepare for this concert. He was asked literally days before the performance to step in for John McDermott. Thank goodness he did! The one downer for me was the appearance of John McDermott as his voice is not my cup of tea.

Customer Reviews:
Bonus Track on this EP is a MUST.......2007-07-22
I've Been a Soundgarden fan for many years. It's very difficult to pick a favorite song, but "Kyle Petty, Son of Richard" is one of the strongest B-Sides I have ever heard. It's as good or better than "Bleed Together" from the 'A-Sides' greatest hits compilation. It could have easily been included on 'Superunknown'.
If you like Soundgarden or Audioslave and haven't heard this song, this CD is worth the money.

Customer Reviews:
Jane's Compilation.......2004-11-27
I copped JA's Live And Rare nearly ten years ago. The thing about this album is that it is intended for the JA fan, yet it doesn't yield anything particularly rare. It opens with the song that catapulted them to fame: a remix to 'Been Caught Stealing' that features polished guitars and some alternate placement of lyrics. Two tracks later is a decent live concert medley of 'L.A. Woman', 'Nausea' and 'Lexicon Devil'. The centerpiece of the record is the epic 'Three Days' that features nothing different from the original album version apart from it being split into two sections. Add three other live tracks and three demos and that is what you get.

Soulful synthesis.......2006-03-22
The warmth and slight edge in Harry's voice give it a perfect "coffee house poet" sound; however, when blended with his love of the blues and Indian musical overtones, something unique is born: almost folksy, almost raga.
Mellow? Yes, but with a tunefulness and a lyrical depth that makes listening a truly moving experience. His songs are often poignant, and you can easily sense the long road he has travelled in his musical journey. Anyone familiar with the work of John Martyn will appreciate this genre, but Harry takes it somewhere different, somewhere special. Excellent.

Customer Reviews:
A must have for any John Waite Fan!!!.......2005-09-27
I highly recomend this to any fan of John Waite's unmistakable voice. Currently, there is no other "LIVE" John Waite available. The 7 tracks here are a good testament to his live prowess. Taken from an '85 concert in LA, this performance leaves you wanting the rest of the concert. Maybe there is a"Live & Rare Volume 2" in the works.
Grab this now, as it looks like it's also about to be out of print.
Also check EBAY for the "No Brakes -Live" VHS or Laser Disc. This was a concert from his '84 No Brakes Tour. A superior live offering that's been out of print for over 20 years.

Customer Reviews:
Too expensive.......2006-07-03
Amazon didn't make a mistake those are all of the songs on all three discs. $63 is a little more than I'm willing to pay for 13 songs.
What's on the other two discs?.......2006-05-30
Amazon only lists the contents of disc 1, and that seems to have a lot of repetition. Not too surprising from the current "experts" posting reviews, but: Nobody here has bothered to tell what else you get for your $60+. What years (and RHCP incarnations) does it cover? What songs? How much filler? Any other materials worth mentioning in the set? Photos? Write-ups?
Die hard "CHILLIS" fan.......2003-02-13
Ah, yes, you definitely seem like a die hard "CHILLIS" fan. So big a fan, in fact, that you can even spell "chili" right. So die hard that you must use all capital letters when speaking their name. What a fantastic commentary, nice work.
LIVE RARE REMIX by Red Hot Chili Peppers.......2000-08-09
An awsome compulation of rare, live and remixed songs by everyones favorate band the red hots. A must have at to hear the funk these clever little musicians put out esspecially live for any poor person who has not attended a chilis concert yet. I give it the big three thumbs up
This is for the die hard CHILLI PEPPER fan's!.......2000-06-04
This is a small 3(cd) box set, But it has rare material that you can't find anywhere else! Personally I think they should of put more tracks on the (cd's), but all together it's worth the money! The remixes are decent, the live song's are pretty cool, but the rare song's are the coolest song's in theis box set! Sikamikaniko is one of my faviorate CHILLI PEPPER song's ever! I suggest only the "die hard" CHILLI PEPPER fan's get this rare gem!
