This fine French guitarist and oud player has gathered a delightful group of singers and players to explore the highways and byways of Gypsy music. The sounds of Western and Eastern Europe, of Pakistan and India, and of North Africa all join beautifully on this excellent CD. From out of the east come the memorable female vocalist Gulabi Sapera and tabla maestro Hameed Khan. The powerful flamenco voices of Paco el Lobo and Bruno and Mambo Saadana meld with well-played guitars, oud, accordion, frame drums, palmas, and the occasional clarinet for an inspired and bracing set of tunes. Mezmorizing... haunting.... unforgettable..........2007-03-16

I saw this movie in France about 10 years ago & the soundtrack has haunted me ever since. This is an incredible soundtrack to a truly gifted film by a sensational musical talent.

Not the whole soundtrack.......2007-03-09

WHY IS "EDERLEZI AVELA" NOT ON THIS SOUNDTRACK? That was one of the most important parts of the movie and they didn't even include the two versions from the film(the first from when Perhan is leaving his village, and the second when he returns.)!!!
This is definately worth having, but for diehard fans of the film like me, there is a lot missing. Also missing "Save ratke daje me pirava" instrumental from the wedding scene.

Astounding!!.......2001-04-08

When I first saw this beautiful and magical movie I was stunned by the music. Immediately, I got carried away by the vocals of the singers on "Ederlezi". WOW!!

I looked for this CD for a long time and I'm happy to say that I got it. I have it for about 6 months now and "Ederlezi" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life.

I truly recommend this soundtrack from the bottom of my heart. Every music lover will be happy to be the owner of this title. You won't regret.

P.S. The first version(The first track)of "Ederlezi" is the theme of this movie and the second version(The last track)is the "outro" of the movie. I find the first one to be amazing.(Don't get me wrong...The second one is also beautiful..).

Swell cd.......1999-10-02

I really love this cd, although, as someone else has already mentioned, some of the best songs aren't on it. I'm not sure why they weren't included: the cd is only about a half hour long, and two of the songs are actually from another movie, 'Kuduz.' But it was worth it to be able to listen to 'Talijanska' and the two versions of 'Ederlezi' without having to fast forward through my videotape:)

Excellent soundtrack, but could be better........1999-04-10

The soundtrack Time of the Gypsies (Temps Des Gitans Et Kuduz) features music from the incredible, must-see movie of the same name. While some of the most memorable music from the movie is included (Perhane's accordian music and music from the dream sequence, for example), three excellent pieces of music featured in the film are NOT on the CD (music during Ahmed's return from Italy, music when Perhane and Danira leave home, and music when Perhane is dancing in a bar). This CD is an excellent purchase for anyone who came away from the movie humming Perhane's accordian song and is anxious to preserve his or her memory of the movie, but potential buyers should note the CD's shortcomings.

This 2000 3-CD set is a new edition of 2-CD set from 1990 titled "Opérette-Passion" from EMI France. By popular request, this adds to the already mirific collection a third CD containing some of the real glories of mid-XXth century French operettas: Maurice Chevalier, Tino Rossi, Fernandel, Alibert, Denise Duval, Luis Mariano, Georges Guétary, Bourvil, Mathé Altéry, Anny Cordy, Gise Mey and Armand Mestral. The selection is not exhaustive - that would be impossible* - but it does give any listener a major incentive to go ferretting for more of the same and the complete score of some of those genuine masterpieces of charm, humour and melody by Fancis Lopez or Maurice Yvain (among many others). For students of the French language and French opera, this collection is priceless as it gives a very good impression of what makes the French singing voice different from any other: something called "le phrasé", which unfortunately cannot be duplicated or improvised by international stars who simply dabble in French (except maybe the multi-talented Petula Clark). The recordings range from a restored antique of the 20's by Chevalier to full stereo scores from the 70's. The result is a package whose value will never be duplicated in discriminating choice, sound quality and sheer listening enjoyment. One very minor reservation : The dates of the recordings are not indicated as they were in the "Opérette-Passion" collection and the names of the lyricists are not given. The liner notes are composed of a 2-page essay which gives a general outlook of the evolution of French operetta (in French) but could have been a little longer, in my humble opinion. Details like this would have made the difference between a wonderful album for connoisseurs and a genuinely educational tool. * The operettas of Vincent Scotto are not represented. WARNING: These recordings are genuine treasures and are never available for long either individually of collectively, so buying this collection is an absolute no-brainer.

Yesterday ,before going to sleep,you told your wife:I have nothing against FRENCH operettas,but what i want to hear is the songs ,not the dialogue that goes with the genre when you listen to complete works.Here in that collection,all the composers who created that particular form of light music are represented.It is so much more entertaining than traditional opera.Among the highlights are songs from OFFENBACH's works like LA BELLE HÉLENE and LA PÉRICHOLE;MESSENGER's VERONIQUE and MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE;the famous LA VEUVE JOYEUSE that was successfull around the world;CHRISTINÉ's PHI PHI created the day after armistice in 1918.One of the pleasant surprize for me was hearing songs from LES MOUSQUETAIRES AU COUVENT and one from LA FILLE DE MADAME ANGOT (JADIS,LES ROIS)and another from CIBOULETTE(NOUS AVONS FAIT UN BEAU VOYAGE).MADY MESPLÉ,one of the best singers of the genre is featured on seven songs,and she is always a joy to hear in any role of the repertoire.FRANCIS LOPEZ, who is remembered as the last important composer is well honoured with eight selections with singers like BOURVIL,GEORGES GUÉTARY and LUIS MARIANO.Don't try to resist THE MERRY WIDOW ,she'll get to you one way or another.

Wonderful gypsy music.......2001-08-08

I love this CD, every track on it is excellent. If you like the "Gypsy Kings" you most likely will like Thierry Robin too. His music is so passionate, heartfelt, great for dancing. Thierry Robin sounds influenced by music from India, Europe, Arabia and the flamenco. I can highly recommend this Cd.

This album is drenched in the sound of the Oud (it sounds like a sitar/mandolin/guitar hybrid) and the rhythms of the Middle East and Africa. The tunes are melodic and accessible, the improvising is great, the instrumentation is intimate and fresh -accordian, voice,clarinet, oud, tabla - and the album is beautifully recorded. I have owned this for over a year and play it more than any other album.

Excellent for variation of gypsy music.......2004-01-13

Love this CD; if you have one gypsy music cd this is a good start to the collection. I became interested in gypsy music after watching the movies, Chocolat and The Man Who Cried wherein there were wonderful music sequences. Excellent variations, superb guitar work---makes you want to dance, dance, dance! I play this in background at parties and it really sets the mood for a lively atmosphere.
