She played her first-ever gig in the bowels of a Nebraska penitentiary, and Laura Love's career has bordered on invitingly quirky and wildly diverse ever since. Now based in Seattle, Love remains invigorating and infectious on her Zoë Records debut, her sixth release. Her self-penned compositions twist and turn from folk to funk, from pop and blues, all mixed up with her own original blend of poetic rap. The result is a successful network of world-music rhythms, acoustic melodies, and Love's potent vocal delivery (think Suzanne Vega with a double-shot of testosterone). There's a funked-up folk backing to "Sometimes Davey Wins," the album's most instantly familiar cut thanks to Love's traditional nursery-rhyming rants. And there are plenty more: the harmonica-driven "I Am Going to Miss You," a jazzy rendition of Laura Nyro's "Stoned Soul Picnic," and the folk-rocker "Suddenly." And before it ends, the sedate ballad "Shenandoah" proves that Laura Love can be as gentle as she is gregarious. --Scott Holter--

Love the cover of Stoned Soul Picnic.......2007-02-25
Nyrofreak here. anyone that covers nyro gets an A+ in my book. On her own Love's music is super. Your a very talented woman.
This is a great cd by a great artist.......2004-05-29
Laura Love is great, and this is one of her best reordings to date. Sometimes Davey wins is probably my favorite cut on the album, followed closely by her cover of Lauro Nyro's classic. As one reviewer has already pointed out, Laura Love not only has an amazing voice, but is a powerhouse bass player as well. If anyone out there wants to listen to someone who has a fantastic voice, an amazing band, and a real talent when it comes to playing an instrument, this is the cd for you.
A bit of a let down.......2004-02-12
Although I have enjoyed all Laura Love's other albums that I have listened to I think Fourteen Days is not a good pick, especially for someone new to her. The songs seemed very simple and a little childish; several songs reminded me of a previous songs on the same album. There were only a few highlights, mostly in the lyrics. I think that any other album she has made would be a better choice. All of the others are very good.
This cd is incredible.......2003-12-03
I have several of Laura's cds, and I'm blown away by them all. This one has a wonderful blend of musical styles to keep you guessing what's coming next, and all the songs are performed perfectly by Laura and her band. My favorite is Sometimes Davey Wins and her cover of the Laura Nyro Stone Soul Picnic. Her voice and her bass playing are incredible, and she should be heard by anyone who enjoys great music.
A cd worth buying!!!.......2002-03-03
I whole heartedly recommend Laura Love's cds to anyone who has an appreciation for good music of all types. no matter what the different labels people put on different types of music, lets face it talent is talent and Laura and her band are very talented. All of my friends that I have introduced to Laura's music have loved it as well. She has a pleasently unusual voice that is both strong and beautiful. Her snappy style of bass playing has a way of making you want to get up and dance and not even feel shy about it! I recently had the pleasure of attending one of Laura's concert's in Ashland Oregon and meeting her. It was wonderful, she is as talented live as she is on her cds, a sigh of the real thing. on stage the same good sense of humor and fun loving spirit shines through as does on her records!
