About the Artist
Jeff Wahl grew up on a farm on the eastern plains of Colorado. He played the trombone in the school band and while that instrument was a lot of fun, it wasn't until he picked up a guitar at the age of 12 that music really became of the focus of Jeff's life. Heavy metal was the doorway that led to the guitar but after a few years of playing in this style, Jeff yearned for a style of music that was a little more subdued and that he could play solo without relying on a band.
With the guidance of one of his band teachers he decided to study solo Jazz Guitar. He drove 120 miles each way to Denver every weekend to take guitar lessons from a Jazz Guitarist who lived there. When Jeff finished High School, he moved to Denver to attend the University of Colorado at Denver, majoring in music. Upon graduation, he made a living teaching guitar lessons and working as a background music guitarist. While this type of work paid fairly well, it was very strange to have to be so invisible while performing. After a while, Jeff began to feel more like an automated muzak system than a live performer. He decided to focus on music teaching. He then moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, got a job teaching guitar lessons, and earned a teaching license from Colorado State University. In 1999, while living in Fort Collins, Jeff released his first CD of solo guitar music, Guitarscapes. This CD earned him critical acclaim and even recognition as one of America's best undiscovered Guitarists. However, music teaching job offers started coming in. He took a job teaching in a school in rural Southeast Alaska. While Alaska was beautiful and it was interesting to be so removed from "regular" society, Jeff missed writing and performing his own music and more than anything he missed Colorado. So after a year in Alaska, he moved back to Fort Collins, Colorado, and started over again.
This time, Jeff got a job completely unrelated to music- working in a library. He went back to graduate school for library science and started to write new material for solo Guitar. This time, the goal was to write music that would really allow him to connect with an audience instead of just fading into the background. This brings us to Jeff's current CD simply titled Jeff Wahl. This CD is a departure from the predominant Jazz feel of Guitarscapes and has much heavier emphasis on fingerpicking. All 17 songs on the album were recorded in one 4-hour recording session. The result is a very spontaneous, authentic sounding album that blends many styles of music into one coherent, solo guitar sound.

Colorado Slack Key guitarist!.......2003-08-27
For all slack key guitar lovers and eclectic acoustic guitar admirers out there, I would highly recommend this album. Mr. Wahl in concert was incredibly versatile and played jazz, classical, and various steel acoustic themes. His playing reminds me a synthesis of various slack key guitarists on dancingcat.com
When he plays he sounds like 2 to 3 guitarists playing at once. He plays in a variety of tunings and in this CD is playing both bass lines and rhythms simultaneously.
For those of you into contemporary hawaiian music, his playing at times also reminds me of one of Hapa's lead guitarist (Barry Flanagan).......
Mr. Wahl is incredibly versatile player and down to earth too. Seems like a great candidate if Hapa ever gets re-launched!
This guy must of being Hawaiian slack key player in a past life!
Completely fresh and unique guitar tunes sooth the soul........2003-08-03

Product Description
On this album, Jeff Wahl plays all the song on 12 string guitar. In a departure from the usually meditative and relaxing nature of his music, the songs on this album are all fast, percussive, and virtuosic. It sounds like three guitarists and a drummer playing but it's only one guitarist.
