"It is like love you can hear."

Product Description
This project grew out of several standout, sold-out Christmas shows performed by the basics in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1995 and 1996. On this first seasonal release, husband and wife duo Kelly Colbert Baynham (vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion) and Wade Baynham (vocals, guitars, piano) have alot of Christmas joy to share: from Kelly's soulful Magnificat to Wade's humorous Blue Christmas, this one runs the gamut musically but somehow it makes sense. Not the kind of shallow seasonal shlock you will hear in department stores, these passionate performances breathe new life into great old songs.

5 out of 5 stars Well arranged Christmas CD.......2004-11-26

This is one of my two favorite Christmas CDs. More contemplative than most.

5 out of 5 stars One of our Christmas favorites.......2000-12-11

When my wife and I think of Christmas CDs, this is one of the first that we pop into our stereos. We've loved hearing Kelly & Wade live for some of their shows in the California Bay Area, and we appreciate their style as musicians and as a couple.

On the CD, my wife's favorite track is "O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus" (as Kelly says, one of her favorite hymns) & I personally like "Go Tell It on the Mountain->You are the Light". The transition & weaving between these 2 songs really is well done.

Also faves on the album are "Joy to the World" (slow version that's excellent... Wade on the album jacket says "We've done a lot of thinking about joy. We think it can be deep and still as well as loud or upbeat. So we slowed this one down and felt the words come alive."), "The Magnificat" (great vocals by Kelly), and "In the bleak Widwinter" (based on a poem by Christina Rosetti in the mid 1800's).

And, as a testimony to a truly great Christmas CD, we even pull out this disc & listen to it during the rest of the year.

As I said above, one of our Christmas favorites!

5 out of 5 stars Not Your Basic Christmas album.......2000-11-04

I have this Basics album, as well as all of their others. I was fortunate to be a frequent attendee at their 'sold out performances in the Bay Area' and was delighted when they decided to cut a Christmas album. Wade and Kelly both have a wealth of talent, and whether singing solos or together, they are very enjoyable to listen to. If you have not heard the basics before, I highly recommend this CD to add to your Christmas collection. My favorite Christmas song is "O Holy Night", and Wade's soulful rendition is one of the best I have heard. I doubt you will be disappointed!
