About the Artist
From the inspiring natural beauty of his Pacific Northwest home, Bronn brings you music that is nothing short of glorious! The harp is often called "the instrument of angels," and Bronn's amazing versatility and skill on this ancient instrument will transport you to the gates of heaven itself!

Thirty-two years ago, a volunteer with the Seattle Public Schools placed a harp in Bronn's hands for the first time and began teaching the 11 year old boy how to play. He advanced rapidly, and soon moved on to private study. By the time he was 16, he was performing professionally in fine hotels and restaurants in the Seattle area. Bronn was accepted to the School of Music at the University of Washington and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1985.

Today, Bronn's musical accomplishments are well known and appreciated thoroughout the Pacific Northwest. He has performed extensively in Washington, California, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Western Canada. His dazzling virtuosity and humorous approach to a seriously classical instrument have made him a favoriate with concert goers. Classical, Sacred, Broadway and Popular tunes all flow effortlessly from the strings of his harp.

Seventeen albums are currently available on Bronn's own label.

Don't miss Bronn as he brings his concert harp, the instrument of angels, down to earth for everyone to enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Another Best of Mehdi .......2007-07-06

"Every album should be called Best of Mehdi," another reviewer once said.
Amen. It's everything everyone says it is. And it was absolutely worth the wait.
Yes, good cover choice; love the white horse.

Where's our DVD, Concertmaster?

5 out of 5 stars Delightful, Relaxing, Wonderful !.......2007-06-29

I also purchased this CD based on the reviews and I'm truly glad that I did. This is Mehdi at his best. I've only listened to it a a few times since I received it, but I know I'll be playing it often. It's especially nice in the car, because it brings the surrounding natural scenery to life. Recommended !

4 out of 5 stars Nice, but not the best I've ever heard........2007-06-29

I bought this based on other review I read on Amazon cold-turkey. It's nice, but not up to the calibur of other albums I have in the same genra.

I wouldn't not recommend it, but I wouldn' rave over it either.

5 out of 5 stars Musical Nirvana - Where sound quality, artistry and composition come together........2007-06-25

Power up the stereo. Turn the lights down low. Don the headphones and energize the CD player. Relax. It's time to enter a world of virtuoso musicianship, of soundscapes that take you to another world. Close your eyes and listen. You're no longer alone but surrounded by beauty and floating into Paradise. You move seamlessly between this world and the next, the music weaving a tapestry that transcends the distance and the times.

Mehdi's Instrumental Paradise is a special recording in that it captures the soul and essence of one of the great musical visionaries in our time.

Mehdi has been playing the piano since he could reach the keys and has composed music for many feature films prior to embarking on his Instrumental musical journey in the mid-90's. Mehdi's music (a mixture of Middle Eastern, Celtic, Greek, Southern European and Spanish or at times Moorish set to neo classical and more modern influences) defies the current practice of cataloging each artist into a standard category. Above all else, this is music for the adventurer in each of us.

Mehdi is the feature artist showcasing his wide-ranging Piano and mesmerizing original compositions. But this is by no means a one-person show. Flutist Dan Jenks, Violinist Tony Ragetti, Percussionist Yoshi Masayuki,Cellist Jesse Von Unwerth,Persian Oudist John Bilezikjian,Guitarist Michael Barbieri,Sitarist Daniel J Gupta are just a few of the virtuoso musicians on this master piece.
They add their tremendous musical talents to a recording that truly is more than the sum of its individual parts. Each of these musicians are talented masters in their own right and have recorded with Mehdi as well as other respected and diverse musicians ranging from Loreena Mckinnett to Yanni.

The sound quality of this recording is beyond reproach. The dynamics and spatial imaging of the recording deserve special mention. This truly is a recording without fault: Over 59 minutes of timeless excellence in sound.

Mehdi's spirituality seems to be as little understood as his music. He is a musical and spiritual adventurer. Each recording contains compositions that deal with a wide range of influences ranging from Christianity to Mysticism to Islam and other faiths. One should be careful in not labeling his beliefs as well as his music. Just listen, learn and enjoy.

If you enjoy artists such as Secret Garden, Loreena Mckinnett,Enya, David Lanz, Phil Coulter, Yanni, classical, Celtic and other world music, or if you are intrigued by a musical adventure, Mehdi's extraordinary Instrumentals should be on your short list of future musical purchases.

5 out of 5 stars Gorgeous sound !.......2007-06-25

A DJ here in Austin insists on calling Mehdi, "The Jewel of public television." While many of his fans are probably jealous that there's actually a station here that gives him airtime (KGSR, 107.1 -- a near identical twin of KBCO Boulder, 97.3), I've patiently combed public TV listings for months, and never seen his name once. Woe is me!

Ever since some cognoscenti used a snippet of his "Wedding Song" as background on an episode of "Northern Exposure," I've been hooked on Mehdi's compelling blend of inspiring melodies and middle eastern rhythms. The California Native and his bandmates are wizards with their instruments. Volume 8 Instrumental Paradise is a must for any fan of Mehdi's music; and I can think of no better way for someone unfamiliar with his sound to become acquainted.

Loreena McKennitt's "songs for the season" are haunting for their beauty and her fascinating voice. Blending traditional Irish music with worldbeat and New Age-like instrumentation, McKennitt's arrangements are at once elegant and eloquent, enchanting and familiar, whether she's singing "Coventry Carol," "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen," or "Good King Wenceslas." "Snow," adapted from a 19th-century poem, and the traditional "Seeds of Love" are so lofty and deep they reach almost mystical places. --Martin Keller

5 out of 5 stars ok, THIS is Loreena McKennitt's CHRISTMAS Album.......2007-06-16

Everyone considers Loreena McKennitt's "To Drive the Cold Winter Away" her Christmas album. I ask people not to call it that, it is more than that, it is music for the whole season from leaf-fall to buds and sprouts in the spring.

This, then, is her Christmas album. Although short, at only five songs, it is a well thought-out album, and a definite "Must-Have" and a "Keeper". The songs here are wonderful, not your standard fare for Christmas, so it is a fresh experience, something always welcome with music for this time of the year, don't you think? Her accompanyment, here, is harp only, so everything is light and open, just right, and soothing after all the crash and bang regular Christmas music......I mean, how many times can one listen to Silver Bells, Jingle Bells, and Here Comes Santa Claus before you just wanna scream "STOP!", huh?

Pick this album up, take it home, and slip in between some other Christmas albums, and be prepared to go "WOW!....That's Nice!", and to also find a new favorite Christmas album. ~operabruin

5 out of 5 stars Every Mehdi is the Best of Mehdi.......2007-07-06

Honestly, there is not a song on all eight Mehdi CD's that I'm not totally in love with.

If you are new to Mehdi, get this whole set if possible. If you don't, you are likely just prolonging the inevitable. I read another reviewer say that when I purchased my first Mehdi CD, but I didn't believe it. The day I received that first Mehdi CD, I quickly ordered the other seven CDs from SMI, and I waited very impatiently for them to arrive.

I'm certainly no expert, but to me, Mehdi compares only with Mozart: it's impossible to find a single composition that is not a perfect classic. And it only seems to get better with time.

5 out of 5 stars Nice instrumental music.......2007-01-09

I do not have what to say here - try to listen samples and feel the perfection.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest instrumental works. Period !.......2006-04-22

Mehdi has managed to achieve through these CD's what no one else has in contemporary instrumental music. He has come up with brilliant melodies. These wonderful, sweet, melodious and tuneful tracks are all his originals. I don't think anyone in instrumental music today can hold a candle to Mehdi's music. It is simply unbelievably that good.

I came across Mehdi 7 years back on our local FM station when they were playing his magical track, "Eastern Sunset." I hadn't even heard of Mehdi then. None of his albums were available in my city. Then, about a month back I heard another song on The Weather Channel and decided to look for Mehdi on the Amazon site. Much to my delight, I found him there. I instantly ordered this Gift Set without even thinking twice. I got my CDs in a few days time and, boy, is it worth every red cent of it. All the tracks are so very tuneful instead of boring, slow and out-of-rhythm mumbo jumbo you get to hear by other new age musicians. Even the so-called "legendary" new age artists are not in Mehdi's league when it comes to musical talent. All the tracks take you to another world where you are lost in the deep soulful melodies.

I have had the CDs now for over 5 weeks and I have been listening to them for about 8 hours a day. I personally believe that good music is about good melodies mainly and a good tune is the hardest thing to find in contemporary music. All the great, household names of today are basically noise. Even the giants of instrumental music pounding away their dull tones and tunes like Yanni, Kenny G or Robert Miles are flat and bland compared to Mehdi. I usually listen to music only from the sixties or seventies and only romantic music for that, although I am 29 years of age and 50+ as you might imagine. I consider it the real music. Mehdi is the only exception from contemporary music I like. In fact, I love his music. I strongly recommend this particular set of albums to all music fans. I think if Mehdi can get himself on a major network TV channel and into the top 40s, he would become the new instrumental giant of today. He has tremendous natural talent. It is not just the Piano-playing skills but the uncanny and rare talent to come up with out-of-this-world compositions. Don't miss out on the musical genius of today, buy this set without hesitation and you'll see how wonderful great music can make you feel !

5 out of 5 stars A Total Mental "Vacation".......2006-04-19

I stumbled into the name of Mehdi from another artist review and decided, based on the reviews here, to purchase the gift set. The price per CD is good, I had a gift certificate to spend, so .. why not?? I am amazed at what I got for the money. The music is full of variety but is overall quiet and a very nice mind vacation if you need to get away for awhile. I have not been using my MP3 player much until I got this gift set and now I have loaded it up to the max and it goes everywhere in my purse so that I can listen when I get stuck waiting at Dr offices, etc. What a wonderful gift to myself!!!

5 out of 5 stars Mehdi - Beautiful, amazing music.......2005-10-18

The best way that I found to describe this music is this way: Of all the music that I own the music that is must played on my iPod, my home music system, and in my car is MEHDI. This music is truly a gift to your ears and to your mind.

My music tastes runs the gamut; from the Rolling Stones to Delerium, from Depeche Mode to the Chemical Brothers... yet I find Mehdi to fit most of the moods I find myself in these days. This music just makes me feel better, period.

I don't know much about Mehdi, whether this is a band, a DJ, etc, and until this week I only had a single CD, Vol 7. After searching locally everywhere for more Mehdi I came back to Amazon and purchased this 7-vol collection. It's the best $95 I've spent in years. In fact, I decided to get an iPod Shuffle just for this collection, so I can carry it with me everywhere.

If you've never heard of Mehdi and came here by clicking links for "similar" music, from say, Delerium, then I would describe Mehdi as "Delerium without the mania" (and I truly love Delerium). Whereas it is hard, but possible, to find a Delerium track you might not love, it is impossible to find a Mehdi track you don't love.

If you have the slightest interest in this kind of music, you cannot go wrong with this gift set. If you can't lay out $95 right now, then start with ANY Medhi CD, just start listening, it will change your life for the better. It's the best cure for stress that I know of. Mehdi is sublime...

4 out of 5 stars Lullay, lullay.......2006-11-15

Finally -- a Christmas album that doesn't include "Jingle Bells," "Joy to the World" or "Let It Snow." I'm so bloody sick of those songs. Instead, Loreena McKennitt looks back on an almost-forgotten time when Christmas was a sacred day full of beauty and magic, in the all-too-brief but very lovely EP "A Winter Garden."

It opens with the soothing, lullaby-like "Coventry Carol," before heading to the majestic catchiness of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and utterly enchanting "Good King Wenceslas," where a saintly king and his servant travel on foot to bring food and firewood to a poor woodsman's family. It's a beautiful little song, and the sprightly tune makes it even more so.

A smoother, softer tone comes in with "Snow," the musical adaptation of a poem by nineteenth-century Canadian poet Archibald Lampman. It's a frosty, beautiful portrait of a winter evening, without any direct reference to Christmas, but its formal tone fits in. The EP rounds off with the traditional "Seeds of Love," a sweet little love song.

Christmas is one of those holidays swamped by commercial profit and not by the traditions and beliefs behind it. So it's refreshing to hear songs that don't bring to mind mall muzak -- instead, McKennitt's EP make you think of wassail, medieval castles, cathedrals draped in holly, and blankets of snow over dark forests.

"A Winter Garden" was recorded over a few days in the summer of 1995, in Wiltshire's recording studios. It sounds pretty laid-back, and the relaxed tone of the results shows it. Her selection of songs is excellent -- four are traditional ballads, rich and underused by most singers. I'm not quite sure why she included "Seeds of Love," which while a lovely song, has no reference to Christmas or wintertime.

McKennitt not only provides her rich vocals, but also plays the harp and adds some keyboard flourishes. Backing her is Rich Lazar's medieval-sounding percussion, Hugh Marsh's violin and Caroline Lavelle's cello -- among others. There are also acoustic guitars, bass, viola, and pipes, which all are woven into a sort of medieval-pop.

While a full-length Christmas album can be found in "To Drive the Cold Winter Away," the "Winter Garden" EP is an enchanting, atmospheric listen that gives a whole new look at Christmas carols.

5 out of 5 stars A delicately imaginative journey.......2002-11-29

Touching on the Celtic, the Renaissance and the Baroque, these six women interweave them into sumptuous improvisations. Ensemble Galilei consists of Liz Knowles on fiddle, Deborah Nuse on bagpipes and fiddle, Sarah Weiner on oboe, recorders and whistle, Sue Richards on harp, Carolyn Ann Surrick on gamba, and Jan Hagiwara on percussion. Their sound ranges from musing to celebratory and airy to earthy, but is characterized always by the easy elegance of musicians who have mastered their instruments. The musicians have this to say about themselves: "We are committed to making music fiercely. We find music that speaks deeply to us, and we honor the traditions and dialects of each musical language... We find the place where our personal history intersects the melody, bass, harmony or chords. Revealed in these musical conversations are the essential parts of our own humanity." This recording showcases feminine creativity in all its rousing and subtle beauty! Ensemble Galilei has two other recordings that I know of so far: "Come, Gentle Night: Music of Shakespeare's World" on the TELARC label, and "The Mystic and the Muse: Celebrating 600 Years of Women in Music" from Dorian.

It's very exciting to follow a group of musicians on their journey together, especially when that journey is made with heart, with fire, and with honor to tradition. Original tunes make easy friends with the traditional on this must-have CD. Love the Scollay's medley, for example, with The Dance Goes On as the last tune. It all works really well! The high quality of the sound itself, the strength of the original compositions, the sparkling arrangements and attention paid to choice of material all make this in my opinion the best EG so far. As a whole, it's great, but there are individual jewels here-- the mysterious Anna's Garden, the tender Cantigas, Liz Knowle's masterful delivery on anything, for example. Sue Richard's Aisling is just the best Sue Richards composition I've gotten to know yet. This piece provides a sumptuous musical (and magical) adventure, full of ideas to play with. Her work gives an added dimension to the collection. If you don't think Ensemble Galilei's work is groundbreaking, ask for this CD in your favorite music department, and watch the guy run around trying to figure out how it's categorized for display! It's really fun. "Ensemble Galilei...That's baroque, right? No! Should be under Celtic...no... uh, folk? Classical? Ensembles? Well, international? Okay, here it is, 'New!' Try it out, it's on the wall." No wonder he has trouble finding it. Their work is unique. It wouldn't be the same if this group of women didn't span decades in age, and possess wide differences in musical background. The group lives up to its commitment of "making music fiercely." Get it just for the cover photos! They're gorgeous.

5 out of 5 stars A Musical Feast.......2001-03-10

The recordings of this talented group of women musicians just keep getting better and better. This CD is a rich blend of original and traditional Celtic material, from across the globe. The CD is like a multi-course banquet, with delicate harp solos by Sue Richards, spicy fiddling from Liz Knowles, savory and haunting Viola De Gamba licks from Carolyn Anderson Surrick. Whether I'm driving, cooking, or filing bills, I play "From the Isles to the Courts" and my work is easier, my journey more worthwhile. I've been a fan of Ensemble Galilei since I first heard them perform a few years ago, but they've outdone themselves this time. "From the Isles to the Courts" is truly a musical feast.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars the best irish fiddling album I've found.......2002-04-14

I am so happy I found this album. I've always wanted this cd, before I knew it existed. I love traditional Irish dance music, especially the fiddling. I generally don't like vocals in it though. And although the reels and jigs and hornpipes are all so well known, finding a good cd of them is just so hard (at least for me). [Does every Irish collection really need to have Danny Boy and Whiskey in the Jar?]
There isn't a bad song on this release. Thank you to Rounder records for saving these classic songs by some excellent musicians... performances that may have otherwise been forgotten. I hope that more of these older recordings will be made available in the future.
If you like Irish music, I'd have to imagine you'll love this cd.

5 out of 5 stars 'it's old but it's good'.......2001-10-04

Ah yes, this is the real stuff - a collection of traditional irish music recordings dating back to the 1920's and 30's, with some later recordings up to the fifties. With the current popularity of 'celtic' music many traditional musicians are exploring the limits of traditional music, adding unusual instruments and styles. Its not unusual to find a recording of a yiddish wedding song or a appalachian tune in the middle of an album of jigs and reels, or the occasional jazzy or bluesy riff ornamenting a hornpipe these days. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, after all folk music is alive and constantly changing, and traditional musicians are people to with wide interests and the curiosity to explore different genres. However the range of influences available to today's musicians is much greater than that which was available to an older generation, and the music is now in danger of losing its roots becoming a world music stew.
This collection features many of the great old musicians who were influenced only by their neighbours and relatives and thus their music is rooted in time and place much more than the music of today. These musicians - Coleman, Gillespie, Murphy, Reavy and the others featured on this cd - were hugely influential themselves. The 78's they recorded in America were sent back to Ireland and influenced a new generation of musicians. Many of the combinations of tunes that are played today are lifted straight from the old recordings.'Bonnie Kate' is always combined with 'Jenny's Chickens' because that's how they appeared in Michael Coleman's recording. But this cd is no mere academic exercise in folklore. It is sparkling, bright, lively, full of energy, earthy, fun. And the recordings are mostly excellent, although one or two show their age with scratches and hiss - they were re-mastered from 78s after all!
This is the cd to get if you want to here where all this irish traditional music comes from, if you want to hear it in its original form and if you want to hear it as it really should be.

5 out of 5 stars A joyful experience.......2003-07-23

Buy this NOW. This has to be one of the loveliest, most life affirming discs you'll ever hear. The five members of Ensemble Galilei are exceptional mistresses of their instruments, - fine musicians not just fine players. The music is varied, though with a preponderance of bounce and rhythm. The sound is simply wonderful, open, lively, analytical in the best sense, - with a fine acoustic at all times. Above all, this disc will make you feel good about life, the celts, the isles, the courts, and everything else. Superb.
