A glimpse of the future, and not because of its huge influence and umpteen million sales. The poor-little-rich-boy protest "Out ta Get Me" intimates that Axl Rose's egotism and martyr complex were soon to grow bigger than his head; still, Appetite's night-train wreck of punk and metal sounds and sensibilities make it more than just an emblem of its time. Whether GN'R are dancing with Mr. Brownstone, penning a callow kiss-off letter to some chick named Michelle, or passing out on somebody else's sofa, this was and remains a savage journey to the heart of the American--or at least the Hollywood--dream. --Rickey Wright

THE BAND: William "Axl" Rose (vocals, synth, percussion), Saul "Slash" Hudson (guitars), Izzy Stradlin - born: Jeff Isbell (guitars), Michael "Duff" McKagan (bass), Steven Adler (drums & percussion).

THE DISC: (1987) 12 tracks clocking in at approximately 53 minutes. Included with the disc is a 10-page booklet containing song titles/credits/times, song lyrics, all original album artwork, and thank you's. Recorded at Rumbo Studios (Canoga Park, CA), Take One Studios (Burbank, CA) and Can Am Studios (Tarzana, CA). Label - Geffen Records.

COMMENTS: Some good music was released by some well known bands in 1987 - Aerosmith (a nice comeback with "Permanent Vacation"), Def Leppard ("Hysteria"), Motley Crue ("Girls, Girls, Girls"), Dokken ("Back For The Attack"), and Whitesnake (self titled - featuring John Sykes), etc. But the one album that made the most impact was "Appetite For Destruction". Just another album from a glammy tattooed L.A. hair band? No chance. The music was instantly cool... fusing elements of hard rock, blues and metal into one... full of crunchy guitars, attitude, catchy hooks, and vocals like no other. GN'R's debut is the 4th highest selling album of the entire 80's decade (15+ million units sold in the U.S. alone... only behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller", AC/DC's "Back In Black", and Springsteen's "Born In The USA"); and Rolling Stone magazine currently ranks it at #61 on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Rose and Slash had a much publicized feud (and 20 years later are still at it)... and the band imploded in the mid 90's. A short life with one incredibly solid debut album, some odd leftovers on "GN'R Lies" (1988), two good albums in '91 with "Use Your Illusion I & II" (though had they taken the best songs from each and put them on one album - it would have rivaled "Appetite For Destruction"), and a bunch of covers on "The Spaghetti Incident?" (1993). The band entered the music world with a ferocious bang, and the fizzled away without much noise. "Appetite" reminds me of one of my all-time favorite albums - Aerosmith "Rocks" (1976) - full of style, swagger, and simply great rock & roll music... destined to be a classic. The group successfully re-energised the genre in the late 80's with shameless gusto. The album gained momentum slowly - and exactly one year after its release, reached #1 on the Billboard charts. "Sweet Child O' Mine" became a #1 single and proved to be the album's selling point. "Paradise City" was the band's 2nd Top 10 hit. And after being re-released, "Welcome To The Jungle" achieved the same Top 10 status. As good as the 3 big hits here were, the rest of the album rocked on almost the same level. The 1st 9 songs are/were amazing and I put the deep album tracks right up there with the hits - "It's So Easy", "Nightrain", "Mr. Brownstone", "Think About You", and "My Michelle" are all classic GN'R tunes. Only 2 things negative regarding this album and GN'R - 1. the tail end of the album (specifically "You're Crazy", "Anything Goes" and "Rocket Queen") seemed to be a bit of a let down... I wish the album ended with a bigger bang; and 2. Axl Rose's antics on and off stage were disappointing. With that being said though, you simply can't deny the music on this album. A great debut - a classic! Very necessary in any rock library (5 stars).

5 out of 5 stars Appetite for Greatness.......2007-06-11

Appetite for Destruction - by Guns N' Roses - is one of the best Rock and Roll albums to be released in the decades before and the decades that followed. It was jolt of electricity to the Rock and Roll scene. There were songs here for fans of every genre as the hit Sweet Child O' Mine and Welcome To The Jungle were crossover hits enjoyed by metal fans and pop fans alike. The impact of these songs are still felt today, as Jungle is even played at NBA basketball games, and sports radio talk shows. But the real gems on this CD are the harder rocking offerings like It's So Easy, Nightrain, and My Michelle. If I have to put together my "stranded on a desert island list" this CD easily makes the cut. My personal favorites are Think About You and Rocket Queen. There is not a weak song amongst this group. The title is appropriate as the only thing that could derail this outstanding group was its own appetite for destruction, and new faces both literally and figuatively. I did have th opportunity to catch Guns and Roses in concert (with Metallica) in Oakland, and they were excellent.

If you are looking for the definitive post 70's rock and roll album, you have found it. Tremendous... 5 strong stars! Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars the best album ever made.......2005-10-17

if you like rock, then this is an album u havta have. If you like music, then this is an album u havta have. If you have a pulse, then this is an album u havta have.
Basically this album should be owned by everyone who likes music and appreciates the art form. This is obviously a classic album, yet is contemporary. You know its a good album when after x amount of years, and you still wanna listen to it. I myself am a huge gnr fan. I got into the music when November Rain hit the charts (I was a preteen then...oh and I suggest you do urself a favour and get those illusion albums). Anyways, AFD is the best album ever--I still listen to it till this very day, when I go out for my jogs. If you are not familiar w/ the group, let me explain some things: the music is catchy, deep, raw, intense, violent, sweet, dance-able, all wrapped into one. each and EVERY single track is an awsome song--it's like a greatest hits album! This was their debut album (1987) and it was a shot in the arm to the stale hair bands of the 80s. Trust me, you will like it, and appreciate it for all it's worth. All the members of the group played an integral part in the making of the best album of all time, and you will thank them for that!

5 out of 5 stars The ultimate Guns N' Roses album.......2005-06-01

Appetite For Destruction (1987.) Guns N' Roses' first album.

The eighties were dominated by two major camps of musicans - synth-heavy new wave acts, and heavy metal. Most of the musicians in the heavy metal camp were the glam type, who wore make up and women's clothing for reasons only god knows. But there was more to eighties metal than first meets the eye. Guns N' Roses was one of the heaviest, fastest, and most agressive hard rock/heavy metal bands of the eighties, and of all time. Formed by Axl Rose (formerly of Hollywood Rose) and Tracii Guns (formerly of L.A. Guns), the group released a live EP in 1986 that would get them the recognition they needed from a major record company - and sure enough, they got signed. The band's first full-length album, Appetite For Destruction, came the following year. This has been hailed as the group's best album, despite being their first. Are those people who hold this album in such high regard right? Read on to find out.

To put it simply, eighties heavy metal (and I'm not talkin' the glam kind) doesn't get any better than this. If you were looking for REAL hard rock in the eighties, you'll agree - Guns N' Roses is the band that delivered it. The band's debut album is, without question, their finest hour. Three massive hits from the group came from this album alone - the straight-up, agressive hard rock stylings of Welcome To The Jungle, the pop-metal piece Paradise City, and the classic Sweet Child O' Mine, which has elements of a power ballad, but is still much too heavy a song to be considered such. These three songs almost instantaneously immortalized the band. But, like eighties metal itself, there is more to this album than would meet the eye at first glance. Every song on here is unique. Though a few songs do sound similar, they all have a sound all their own. And there are plenty of underrated masterpieces to go around - My Michelle, Nightrain, and Mr. Brownstone come to mind. If this album isn't in your heavy metal collection yet, you don't have an eighties metal collection.

There's really not much I can say about the editions of this album available. There's an explicit version and an edited version, and that's all there is to say. Both are readily available, and the sound quality on the album is good enough that there is really no need for remastering. Take my advice, though - get the explicit version so you can hear the music as the band intended. After all, edited albums are crap.

Guns N' Roses' 1987 debut album proved that they were here to stay. And they would be, for a few more years anyway. Four more Guns N' Roses albums would be released in the years that followed, but not one of them would measure up to the success of Appetite. If you're new to the band, start with this album - NOT that godawful hits compilation that the record company released. This ain't no greatest hits band. No fan of heavy metal should be without this album, period.

1 out of 5 stars ONLY THE BOOKLET IS EDITED-NOT MUSIC!.......2005-05-20

Just to clear up some confusion, the booklet is what is edited. The unedited version, has a cartoonish picture of a woman who has just been raped by some kind of robot monster thing. The music is not edited. Pointless idea really! Just thought this would help someone out there.....music gets 5 stars, whosever idea this was gets 0 stars.

1 out of 5 stars Buy the unedited album........2005-01-02

Appetite for Destruction is arguably the best debut album of all time. The "censored" version is not very good. Most of the material is very poorly censored and although I respect the idea of censoring the music, I don't support it - because frankly kids should not be listening to Guns N' Roses, and if adults have a problem with mild language (and it is quite mild here) they just shouldn't be listening to Gn'R! Sometimes profanity filters are good (such as the one I purchased for my television for family viewing) - but editing a hard rock CD isn't a good idea since the content to begin with is pretty hardcore. I mean, the very idea of censoring "naughty words" from ROCKET QUEEN is hilarious - forget about the recorded female orgasm that plays midway through, just make sure they don't say any bad words!

If the idea behind director John Beck's nautical frightfest isn't exactly new--long-lost ship is mysteriously found floating at sea--the filmmaker invests it with a smart sense of style and tension that lifts it above its horror-exploitation roots. The brooding orchestral score from composer John Frizzell (13 Ghosts, Beautiful, Alien Resurrection) conjures up the appropriate atmosphere of foreboding and unease, while largely steering clear of the genre's inherent cheese quotient. Indeed, the composer invokes an often surprising sense of emotional strain and weariness, injecting some welcome human dimensions amid the expected shrieking strings and rumbling brass and percussion. While certain genre clichés are paid heed, Frizzell's efforts here often as not eschew orchestral thunder for more subtle, intimate music that lifts the film from mere floating haunted-house gambit into something more emotionally gripping. --Jerry McCulley

The great song from the "flashback scene" in the movie, is track 23, My Little Box. Simply a must-have song. Dark and dry, the lyrics accompany the hollow and spooky beat. "I live safe inside my cell, in the darkness that surrounds me, I see my own special hell. Compliment my suffering, feeling warm inside this pain, four walls comin' down on me, are coming down again."

Autechre's Sean Booth and Rob Brown are always going off about how influenced they are by hip-hop, but gosh, it's hard to hear it in their arid, jittery soundscapes. The German duo Funkstorung got tagged early on as Autechre wannabes, and on their latest album, Appetite for Disctruction, they make the hip-hop connection explicit, rubbing their jagged synthetic beats against some oddball MCs, brewing up a music that some wag has already dubbed "blip-hop." Highlights include "Sounds like a Breakrecord," in which Triple H drops some deadpan science while an anvil angs in the background, and "Think!," a collaboration with an MC named Greenwood in which the duo do to his rap what Timbaland does to rhythm racks: breaks it up, shakes it up, and creates an entirely new sense of flow. But these sorts of things are never new enough. Someone, somewhere, has already figured out how to dance to this. --Jeff Salamon

4 out of 5 stars ausgezeichnet!.......2000-11-18

If this album is to be your first acquaintance with FUNKSTÖRUNG, so much the better. However, if you already have "Additional Productions", you may be disappointed--this will merely be more of the same. Still, the guys do good work, and I would rather have this CD in my collection than not.

3 out of 5 stars Very good, but..........2000-11-06

I bought this cd after reading a collection of rave reviews onit. There is certainly nothing wrong with this cd, but the Autechre ghost lingers strongly over these proceedings! While there are some fantastic sounds and beats on here, its really nothing that Autechre hasn't done in the past. However, as an electronic musician myself, i'd be flattered if someone said my music was even in the same league with Autechre! So, if you're looking for some very good IDM music, and you have all the Autechre stuff, then by all means, pick this up!!

5 out of 5 stars Paraphrasing Guns 'n' Roses, uh?.......2000-10-20

Funkstörung supported Einstürzende Neubaten during their last tour. This alone should induce you to buy the record at once but given that you haven't probably heard of EN, I'll try to convince you in a different way. Basically they blend disturbing sounds and breaks to create an electronic texture that sounds tuneful (It's as if you managed to create great music by banging a steel pipe against the wall...only that the sounds here are synth-generated). Some track have hip-hop-like rythms while others are less catchy and more experimental but both have something in common: they steadily rock!

5 out of 5 stars Timbaland for the 21st century.......2000-09-07

This is the music that will soundtrack the next century,Broken beats stutter away behind haunting melodies and cut up soundbites. Hip Hop has never sounded so modern, and probably never will. "..Distruction" sounds like it wasn't made by people at all, if computers could breakdance, they would to this. Futuristic, cold, robotic, yet strangely emotional. Music like this helps you dream. Glitch Hop indeed.

4 out of 5 stars Machine Music With A Soul.......2000-06-17

In my opinion, electronic music very often sounds too machine-like and too cold. In that sense, listening to electronic music is similar to listening to free jazz: You can do it if you're in sort of an intellectual mode but you wouldn't really play it to your girlfriend for breakfast on a sunny Sunday morning. A rather obvious thing would be to add human voices to electronic music. Mouse On Mars did this on their "Cache Coeur Naive" EP, borrowing Stereolab's voices. On this album, Funkstörung do it on some of their tracks, too. The result is not entirely convincing. I like the rapping, but the female singing is much worse than the standard Funkstörung set themselves by remixing Björk's "All Is Full Of Love". However, it would be somewhat unfair to judge this very nice album just by the vocals. I pretty much agree with the other reviewers who pointed out the similarities between this album and Autechre's work and who praised its qualities. It is a splendid piece of electronic music.

Comedy prank phone calls

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Give it up.........2005-09-07

their first cd was very funny .. unfortunately, their second attempt was a stretch, to say the least...it sounds like they ran out of material.

5 out of 5 stars The first in the series - collect them all!.......2002-06-20

Seriously, if you like this type of humour, you should buy all four Touch Tone Terrorists' CDs (the fourth CD actually is called Junkyard Willie Prank Call Tapes because RePete, the fellow who does all the voices, was not happy with the word "terrorists" after what happened on September 11, 2001).

This first CD was released in 1998 and is "independently distributed" - that is, it is difficult to find it in major stores, and outside the US the chances are even slimmer. Thank God for online retailers.

This opening CD introduces the three main characters who feature throughout the series and also some secondary on-and-off ones.

Willie is a man with a coarse voice and extremely abrupt manner (he used to be a Drill Sergeant in the Army, as you will later find out). Willie is even better developed in subsequent CDs as an angry and aggressive janitor, where he does his best to describe his latest flushing challenges.

There is also Blade, a dude who is always either drunk or on drugs. Blade likes throwing up on the phone (sounds are superbly recreated, but may be a bit over the top for those on the sensitive side!).

My favourite throughout the series is Jim-Bob, a retarded redneck with a bit of old-fashioned elegance about him (note how sparingly he uses profanity and his peculiar choice of swear words). I think he is also the author's favourite: there is this unmistakable flash of inspiration whenever RePete does Jim-Bob's stuttering, annoying and impatient character. I bet you'll like "Scooter's Transmissions", "City Brake" and "Scooter's Roof'n", where Jim-Bob's country charms are best represented.

The CD closes with "Auto Dealership Dispute", where you never stop wonering WHY OR WHY these people keep going on and on and on arguing with unspeakably arrogant car mechanic who keeps pumping up his abuse. Why don't they just call another dealership? It is a mystery. Makes you think some customers would put up with just about anything.

A superb CD. You will not regret buying it.

5 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking.......2001-10-18

The pranks of the Touchtone Terrorists are quite simply some of the most brilliant and important contributions to the comic world that I can remember. That is not hyperbole, it is the god's honest truth.
Forget everything you've ever known about "prank phone calls." The cliched tactics of badgering and harassing people who simply hang up the phone once they realize they're getting jerked around are dead. The fact that the TTT have people calling them thinking they are reaching customer service representatives makes all the difference in the world. The victims' reactions make up the ingredients of pure, honest comedy-- shock, confusion and finally anger. It is this purity of the induced reactions that separates the work of the Touchtone Terrorists from anyone before or since them.
If you are fan of the age-old and timeless form of comedy known as the practical joke, treat yourself to this CD.

4 out of 5 stars the best prankster yet!.......2001-08-14

this is not repete's best work (see "a permanent lapse of reason"), but it is much funnier than just about any other pranker out there! highly recommended! also, PLEASE! check out john bean (type "the real leroy mercer is john bean") he is a country boy from east tennessee who died from cancer in the early 80's but decided to go out with a bang! roy mercer stole his act!

4 out of 5 stars Can't be compared to the Jerky Boys.......2001-02-16

The only similarity would be that both the Jerky Boys and The Touch-Tone Terrorists belong in the "prank phone call" genre. The overall approach of both is different.

The first and second Jerky Boys CD's were the very best- the spontaneity and originality of the pranks made them classic. By the third and fourth CD's the boys were running out of steam, the fifth CD was mainly filler. The boys made prank phone calls an art form, mainly because the characters (Sol, Frank Rizzo,Jack Tors) were so colorful. The concept was simple, Johnny or Kamal would call someone and raise hell.

The Touch-Tone Terrorists take prank phone calls to new heights. RePete has numerous 800 numbers, and the callers (victims) think they are calling freight shippers, college admissions offices, insurance companies, etc. Instead of customer service they get Willie, Jim-Bob or Blade, who procede to skillfully enrage the customers.

This type of humor is not for everyone, but if you're a bit cruel at heart you'll love TTT.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Bad, really bad.......2005-11-24

Here is the premise of "Appetite for Reconstruction" (1999).

All twelve songs from "Appetite For Destruction" have been re-recorded with original Guns N' Roses guitarist Tracci Gunns. The album features twelve singers--has-beens and also-rans, from the sunset strip scene. The songs are given a techno-industrial spin.

Doesn't look good on paper? Well it sounds a lot worse than it looks. This CD SUCKS!!! It's unlistenable. The new interpretations don't work at all. The songs aren't intriguing or catchy, they're just ruined. This whole CD is a joke. If you are a fan of Guns N' Roses, you will get NOTHING, NADA, ZIP out of this CD.

1 out of 5 stars Cannot be done.......2002-12-29

Guns N Roses is one of those bands whose songs simply cannot be remade. Their style cannot be reproduce. They(Guns n Roses)on the other hand can make virtually any song better. The Spaghetti Incident is evidence of this statement. I agree with one of the people here that said Axl Rose and Slash are one of the best duos of all time. I believe Mr Rose's raw musical talent has been overlooked because of shallow people's petty interest in his personal life and his troubled ways. Slash is simply the most soulful musician I have ever heard with maybe the exception of Ludwig Van Beethoven. I have studied and am trained in classical music and have studied the great composers in music history(Beethoven,Mozart,Chopin,etc..) therefore I can appreciate the exceptional musical talent and deep emotion these two individuals put into their music, especially Mr. Rose. The songs on this tribute album should have never been made for you simply cannot remake any Guns n Roses song.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS INSULT TO GUNS AND ROSES.......2002-08-08

I rate myself as one of the most dedicated Guns and roses fans on the planet, in my opinion appetite for destruction, the origional guns album is the best rock album of all time. I have every gnr album, and video. I naturally rushed out to buy this and cannot believe how bad it is, it makes me cringe and feel embarassed to be part of the human race. It sounds like kids singing along to a play gnr on bontempi organ book for beginners. It is just quite awfull, I would buy anything else other than this album, its just a drinks coaster for me now. If you dont have the original Appetite for destruction, buy it now and enjoy the ultimate rock group, if you already own it, well you dont need many other albums do you !!

1 out of 5 stars [Stinks].......2002-07-10

I really wanted to like this disc, but I really didn't. It was an utter disappointment, even for a GNR and Jizzy Pearl fan such as myself. Wow, I mean, this was so bad, it could literally make you paint the walls with your lunch.

1 out of 5 stars THERE IS NO ROCK N' ROLL ON THIS CD!!! don't buy it..............2001-08-02

I am a die hard G N'R fan and let me tell you this CD bites the big one! If you're looking for Rock N' Roll, congratulations, you just bought the WRONG Cd!!!!

The whole thing is a compilation of TECHNO-NEW AGE dance music that just REPEATS the main riff of each song over and over and over and over again and again and again. All the lyrics, if they even decide to include them, are all computerized techno stuff. It sounds like this whole CD was created by one guy and his turn table, scratching and mixing Techno Rave music.

This CD is proof the band will never get back together again since they just don't care how bad their songs get destroyed.

If you're still interested, goto EBay and I'll sell it to you for 5 bucks!

      Product Description

ALEXA WILKINSON is more than meets the eye. Her pretty, girl-next-door face on a petite 5-foot 4-inch frame suggests nothing of the emotional maturity displayed in her debut album Lullaby Appetite, now available on iTunes and scheduled for public release this June through DNK Records. Alexa s evolution into a musical artist originated from common childhood experiences.

Lullaby Appetite consists of 11 songs that display a unique of blend of music from jazz, rock and folk influences. Penned and performed by Alexa herself, these songs represent her own personal journey through life, love, acceptance, and lessons learned. Her fresh, smooth vocals slide easily around the extremely memorable melodies, toe-tapping rhythms and sprite guitar playing. The lyrics are rich with expression, exposing a vulnerability and honesty without naïvete. Rather there is an emotional maturity of looking at life with an optimistic eye, accepting one s mistakes, and moving on.

From the jazz inspired Sad Eyed Annabelle, to the upbeat and edgy Good Fight, Alexa s songs center around love and relationships, something which everyone can relate to. In Sad Eyed Annabelle, Alexa portrays an unhealthy relationship where the girl is manipulating the boy, whereas Good Fight reveals Wilkinson s more playful side, such as picking a fight in a relationship. Fan favorite and Alexa s first single, Of Graves depicts a young woman reminiscing about a past lover, while Lullaby Appetite talks about a long-distance friendship.

Half of the songs on Lullaby Appetite were produced and co-written by singer-songwriter Josh Kelley. So naturally, Kelley would have Wilkinson along on tour with him. Alexa opened for Josh in 10 cities across the US, from April 10th through May 4th, 2007. Being a fan of Alexa himself, Kelley stated I was immediately impressed with Alexa s music she is an extremely talented singer and songwriter whose unique sound will no doubt propel her to the top. She s got such a natural, easygoing style to her music that anyone from all ages can relate to it. I m proud to have her on tour with me.
