Incantation
Incantation
Editorial Reviews
Green Egg, Oct.1996
"At last! A hip and holy musician that's sexy, smart, and decisively Pagan. Knight's "Incantation" ignites the inner vision; her songs are inspiring and richly spiritual. Her technique blends the ancient and modern, and has a strong Celtic-fusion feel that evokes Dead Can Dance, Loreena McKennitt, and touches of Led Zeppelin."
Product Description
Incantation is a visionary work that draws much inspiration from the music and traditions of the ancient Celts, yet remains refreshingly original. All songs are written by Ms. Knight and are presented in an evocative blend of driving rock and enchanting acoustic minstrelsy. The lyrics are gorgeous and lush, creating rich imagery in the mind, and Knight sings them passionately, in a voice that reflects perfectly the haunted yearnings so characteristic of Celtic culture.
Instruments you will hear on "Incantation" include acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, keyboards, recorder, flute, and several drums. Strong pagan themes are woven throughout. Sharon's music comes from a place of soulful dedication to her muses, and this is a fine example.

Coppelia.......2007-07-27
I ordered two DVD versions of Coppelia along with this CD in order to learn the choreography from the ballet. My only complaint about this CD is that the music is considerably faster than either of the orchestras have played the score on the DVDs. This makes it difficult to learn the choreography with out slowing down the CD on a variable speed CD player.
A full-length Coppelia at an appealing price.......2003-06-26
Andrew Mogrelia has conducted a number of full-length ballets for Naxos: Giselle, Sylvia, Sleeping Beauty, and this Coppelia. I own all of them, because I find Mogrelia is one of those rare conductors who make a ballet sound like a ballet.
In concert hall versions, conductors often make ballet music impossibly fast, or simply too unpredictable. (Gergiev's Nutcracker is in this category: fun to listen to, definitely NOT a dancer's Nutcracker.) But when dancers are on stage, they need a regular, dependable beat to dance to. Mogrelia's Coppelia never sounds sing-song, because he uses dynamics so skillfully - but he does conduct at an authentic dance tempo.
Another Coppelia I like and own is Mark Ermler's (ASIN: B0000024CL), but while it's much more than highlights it is not the full ballet. The first act mazurka is missing, and that's a definite loss.
La Source is a bit of an oddity because it was originally commissioned as a sort of competition: half composed by Minkus, half by Delibes. Delibes was generally considered the winner, so he stayed in Paris while Minkus went off to Russia. This album is strictly Delibes, so it's only highlights from La Source. But it does include my favorite, the utterly charming Pas des Fleurs, Grande Valse.
Inspired ballet music at a bargain price........2002-07-13
Although I'm not particularly fond of watching ballets I have a special love for ballet music, and Coppelia is one of my favorites. It is the masterpiece of Leo Delibes who was one of the greatest of ballet composers. Even Tchaikovsky -- probably the greatest ballet composer of all -- greatly admired Delibes' work. This recording presents not only the complete music for Coppelia but also the lovely, but seldom-heard, music Delibes wrote for La Source -- both conducted by the excellent ballet conductor Andrew Mogrelia. And at a bargain price to boot. Please don't pass up this special treasure.
Superb Performance.......2000-08-27
I search for the recording for the complete Coppelia when my daughter's dance school was practicing for it. I found this item. Performance was meticulous. It was recorded in the Orchestra's concert hall over a period of almost two weeks. All digital recording. Well balanced orchestra. Fine details. A good item to collect.

Though this musically rich album, recorded in 1995, casts a net wide enough to appeal to lovers of Eastern music as well as fans of the Grateful Dead, it's no bland crossover mix. The self-assured, virtuosic guitarist Sanjay Mishra is a thoroughly engaging artist, able to weave multivoiced strands from his MIDI classical guitar together into dancing, organic shapes. The blend of traditional Indian tabla, bamboo flute, and Western instruments--with hints of raga scales in Mishra's remarkable compositions--alternately brings to mind a sun-kissed, promising dawn (the positive flow of energy in "My Meditation") and a surrounding cloud of serenity ("Before Summer Rain"). In what turned out to be one of his final projects, Jerry Garcia collaborates on three of the tracks. His openness to new sounds and to jamming with musicians of all stripes contributes an amazing chemistry, especially in "Clouds," where Garcia's lovingly shaped phrases dovetail with Mishra's guitar in a moving lyrical embrace. You can hear this either as an unintended lament or a blissful acceptance of the peace that passes understanding--either way it's an unforgettable document. --Tom May
Album Description
A blend of Eastern and Western Styles. One of Jerry Garcia's last recordings.
Customer Reviews:
incredible music, but not jerry's best.......2004-04-04
This is a great gateway album to indian music. A few of the tracks are absolutely mindblowing compositions that take you on a journey winding through time and space. However, Jerry Garcia's additions are the weakest part of the album. He plays electric guitar, sits in the background playing long notes while sanjay noodles endlessly. Makes Jerry look bad. This album is worth it by all means if nothing else, just for the song "Julia", which flies sky high with electrical energy that makes the body shake, the eyes roll back in the head...
Staying Power.......2003-11-10
Most artists who are popularized at any given moment in history are vastly overated. Sanjay Mishra... particularly as evidenced in his 'Blue Incantation' album, is not one of those artists. The creative and thoughtful balance of this man's craft will be as fresh tomorrow as any of the known European composers are today.
desert island cd.......2001-06-18
this would be one of my desert island cds--its that good. garcia aside, mishra composes beautiful timeless songs. " for julia" and the last track on the album are chilling. "clouds", the ballad w/garcia is one of jerry's finest recorded moments---passionate & emotional--recorded before his death. this is the type of album anyone in the "new age/world" genre wish they could create. its moody, dark, inspirational, melodic, meditative, well-crafted, and sublime without the phony empty musicianship of the kitaro/yanni/tesh world. when u wake up in the morning, put this cd on, sit in a comfortable chair, drink that hot cup o' joe/tea, and be happy that you made this one-of-a-kind purchase.
Strong mood, but lacking substance.......2001-03-20
The ambiance of this album is pleasant, but the rest falls short. Mishra's attempt to fuse classical, eastern, and new age styles leaves the effort somewhat directionless and not a strong example of either genre. The collaboration with Jerry Garcia was another legitimate attempt to cross-market, but Garcia's contribution is minimal and very weak compared to his other work. There are a couple stong songs here, but most lean to heavily on Garcia's namesake or just lack emotional and compositional substance.
Eastern Influences or Dead Influences?.......2000-08-29
This CD is a wonderful treat for those who enjoy Traditional Indian music and all of the variations born of that ancient culture. What struck me most (after the delightful solos by both guitarists) was the similarity to SHAKTI with John McLaughlin. Handful of Beauty is the Mclaughlin album I refer you to. Both albums span the spectrum from joyful, dancing frenzy to the sorrowful moaning of spiritual yearning.

Product Description
Albany Records is proud to release what is a long-overdue memorial to one of the finest American composers of wind ensemble music. Chance was a gifted composer, teacher and administrator who died a tragic death by accidental electrocution at the age of 39. He studied theory and composition with Kent Kennan, Clifton Williams and Paul Pisk. If you are familiar with the “old school” of band music, Chance is as fine a representative as any. His music is brash, exciting, and highly energetic in the way you remember from those works you heard on those great old Mercury recordings with the late Frederick Fennell. Ironically, though such works as the Blue Lake Overture and Variations on a Korean Folk-Song have been in the active band repertory for years, this is the first major commercial release entirely devoted to his music, a “greatest hits” package in fact. Standing out in particular is the Symphony No. 2, perhaps the best work of its kind since the Persichetti Symphony (No. 6) for Band. Based on a four-note motif of C#-D-F-E, the music whips up a remarkable amount of tension and excitement, especially in the last movement. The authoritative performances are under Stephen K. Steele, who began directing the Band Department at Illinois State University in 1987. Under his direction, the Wind Symphony has performed for state and national conventions, including the 1990 American Bandmasters Association and the 1993 and 2001 College Band Directors National Association. Steele and the Wind Symphony can also be heard on two previous releases, TROY500 (music of Persichetti, Syler, Zaninelli and Maslanka) and TROY600 (music of Maslanka and Hagen). Albany has had great success with our catalog of wind music, and we feel this new release, honoring John Barnes Chance, is one of finest.

I immediately wanted to buy this CD after watching Quidam. It refresh my memory every time I listen to its music!
Worth buying!
An eclectic and esoteric mix!.......2006-08-08
Quidam's music can best be described as both an eclectic and esoteric mix. It would be very difficult to categorize the music on this CD into any one genre. From the rocking Zydeko to the beautiful song Seisouso, to the eastern European sounding Rivage, this CD will have something for everyone. And it is a must have for anyone who has seen Quidam.
It's all about the music.......2006-03-10
Cirque Du Soleil (Quidam) wouldn't be such a hit without it's soundtrack. You can recapture the experience of the dark but lively mood through the tracks on this CD. Definately a collectible.

Customer Reviews:
Makes me remember why I was almost a music major!.......2004-08-29
I really had to scour the internet to find and buy this cd! Why would I do such a thing? One day while driving in my car, I heard "Incantation and Dance" by John Barnes Chance playing on NPR and those wonderful memories of my freshman year of college came flooding back! The Chance piece is such a joyous and intricate exploration of the beautiful sounds that can be created when an ensemble of talented musicians, a great director, and a truly original piece of music are joined as one. I bought the cd specifically for this piece, but I also remember performing "American Overture" by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins while studying trumpet performance at Truman State University, a small liberal arts college in northeast Missouri.
Ok, so I gave up the dream of a career as a professional musician, but I will never forget that feeling of chills running up my spine while playing my trumpet on a lush piece like that one.
I'll bet if you were ever a band member in high school or college, this cd will bring back some good memories. Orchestral music is wonderful, but there is nothing like a big brass section and lots of percussion to make your heart race and your spirits soar!
Dello Joio is awesome.......2002-07-15
I had never heard "Scenes from the Louvre" before, and it was quite a pleasant surprise.
Dello Joio's music isn't that common, or maybe better to say not commonly found... so when a new work pops up I usually try to at least audition it. I wasn't disappointed at all.
By closing one's eyes, you can almost visualize walking through the different galleries - Dello Joio paints with music as well as any of the masters painted with oil! Bravo!
The rest of the CD is fine, but "Scenes from the Louvre" is the shining star. I only wish I had been able to see the television production that this was written for.
Being a huge Dello Joio fan, I would appreciate being steered in the right direction for more of his music, especially anything that was written for, or has been transcribed for the Wind Symphony medium.

The producers of Mike Leigh's vibrant Topsy-Turvy took many big studio meetings seeking financing for their film. Word has it all went swimmingly until time for the pitch came--there are apparently no two words as unsettling to Hollywood film execs as "Gilbert & Sullivan." But the studio system's loss turned out to be the indie film's--and our--gain. Leigh's film brought the composers' late-19th-century mounting of their breakthrough The Mikado to an all-too-familiar life, filled with as many neuroses, foibles, and fragile egos as any modern Broadway musical. The film's score, an inviting pastiche adapted from Mikado (and other G&S staples) by veteran Carl Davis, may upset purists with its time-conscious liberties. But then, it might just win over a receptive yet unexposed new audience for whom this music may seem strangely familiar, as well it should: this is where modern musical theater began. --Jerry McCulley

Here's a How-De-Do!.......2007-02-22
It's brilliant, really! I am a self-confessed Gilbert and Sullivan fanatic, and so the release of this soundtrack to accompany a truly delightful movie provided me with an "Oh, joy! Oh, rapture!" moment ... many of them, actually! To hear some of my favorite tunes from some of my favorite G & S operetti performed so well makes my heart "sing-o" - and me, too!
Topsy-Turvy is TOPS!!!.......2007-02-21
This is Gilbert and Sullivan like you will never hear again! These performances are so fresh and alive with comedy flourish that my formerly "purist" ears reveled in delight at this magnificeant rendition of these great operettas. It is wonderful to hear excerpts from PRINCESS IDA,IOLANTHE and SORCERER (as well as THE MIKADO) when so many recordings already exist of the other G&S chestnuts,PINAFORE and PIRATES OF PENZANCE.
The actual cd itself fills the speakers and is a true listener's dream.A great soundtrack of a great film.Wonderfully recorded by SONY.
Superb.......2005-02-25
This is a fantastic cd, one that I have listened to many many times without growing tired of it. The particularly nice thing about this cd for lovers of the movie is that you get to hear the entire performance for many songs which are necessarily cut short in the film, most enjoyably "A Wandring Minstrel I". As has been noted in other reviews, the vocal performances are not what you will typically find in other G & S recordings: they are far less burdened with mannered belle canto nonsense, to their immense benefit. And I must disagree with one reviewer who disparaged the staging as portrayed in the film. My wife and I saw a touring production of the Mikado which used the costumes and set from the movie, and it was fantastic. Even better, the performers seemed to take some cues from the film actors too, singing and performing in a way that was much more accessible and not a bit less pleasing.
Better than many a G&S non-sountrack.......2003-09-16
I was compelled to get this after seeing the overlong, flawed, but nonetheless all-around amazing 'Topsy Turvy'. (Seriously - almost every supporting actor in the film deserved an Oscar, and Jim Broadbent was robbed; his Gilbert is magnificent and real.)
Inspired then to hear a true G&S performance, I bought several Carte recordings. What broke my heart is that the genuine Savoy performances are not as good as those of the 'Topsy' actors! Contrary to a review here, the articulation is just dandy. And the tenor in 'Wand'ring Minstrel' alone is far, far superior to the thin, reedy, annoying versions on the several concert cds I've heard. As is the riveting soprano on the beautiful 'The Sun Whose Rays...' of 'Topsy'; again, the actual Savoy recordings are merely shrill in comparison.
I remove one star only because of the necessarily abbreviated performances here.
Put on the CD, close your eyes and..........2003-03-02
You are back in the Savoy Theater in Victorian England, watching a Gilbert and Sullivan production of the Mikado, or Yeoman of the Guard, or the Sorcerer, or Princess Ida. The qualiity of the music is superb, the voices are wonderful and I only wish I could have videos of all the G&S productions to watch along with the music.
Buy the DVD of Topsy-Turvy if you don't already own it. It's magnificent. See my other review.

Album Description
Sound in Spirit represents another leap forward in power and purpose for Chanticleer. On this recording they explore the profound connection between sound and healing. The repertoire weaves together compositions ancient and contemporary, East and West, so the listeners hear familiar and unfamiliar sounds in equal proportions. The texts and sounds are inspired by many different cultures along with religious and musical traditions from Tibet, India, Japan, Africa, indigenous America and Byzantine Greece.

Fantastic.......2007-03-09
As a college trombonist, with decidedly 20th century leanings in my own personal tastes, I found this recording absolutely spellbinding. Weird? Yes! Outside the box? You bet. Awesome harmonic overtone singing? Yes! One of my duties as a musician is to "improv" on jazz solos - they do some of that on this recording as well. This disc has it all. I love ancient sacred music as well (Chanticleers Magnificat disc is excellent as well), but sometimes one tires of the (even though it is beautiful)monotony - the complete tonality and predictability of the works. Sometimes I want some interesting ideas to pop up unexpectedly, something that makes you go "Wow, how did they do that!" Sometimes I want some atonality, some asymmetrical rythmns in my choral singing. It gives the moments of tonality and common time their "glow" for lack of a better word. This disc delivers on all fronts, and is, of course, impeccably sung. In my opinion, Sound in Spirit has a good mix of traditional and non traditional music although it's not something you would put on as back ground music at a dinner or going to sleep. The music forces you to put down what you are doing, and devote your full attention. I definately recommend it.
So rich, so beautiful.......2006-07-08
I really can't understand why this Chanticleer recording in particular should garner such a comparatively large amount of negative reactions. I suppose some people simply have an insurmountable aversion to non-western and/or non-traditional musical ideas. Still, other Chanticleer albums (Colors of Love and Lamentations and Praises both come to mind) have forayed as much or more than Sound in Spirit into such music, and reactions to those tended more towards the positive. If you tend to prefer genre-specific Chanticleer (e.g. gospel, Christmas, early music), then Sound in Spirit may not (I repeat, MAY not) be for you. If, however, you respond equally to a wide range of sounds and styles, or if you enjoy contemporary/adventurous compositions, I cannot recommend this album enough.
Sound in Spirit is a richly evocative and endlessly rewarding musical journey, featuring compositions from diverse artists and genres. Some tracks include ambient outdoor recordings, percussion, or a guest vocalist or two. The liner notes indicate that this, more than any prior Chanticleer recording, is meant to be listened to all in one go, as a shimmering whole that transcends its disparate indvidual elements. Such cohesiveness in a musical release is a remarkable feat by any measure, but Chanticleer truly delivers. Buy it.
A glorious song.......2006-03-08
Como pod'a groriosa, a 10 or 12 minute meditative song, track 7 of the album, is worth the entire price of the CD and more. It is a glorious piece of music that starts out with a lone voice, pleading to Mary for help for his lame daughter, then builds to an amazing crescendo as the daughter is healed and strides out into the world. You can hear the power return to the singer/singers, and it is easy to feel "healed" spiritually one's self, listening to it. I have shared this song with others and their response has been, universally, "Wow."
I paid for this?.......2006-03-08
If I didn't lose the receipt I would have taken this one back.
I was shocked that what I was listening to was really the same Chanticleer on the Rensaissance records I have. I might have enjoyed this more back when I was dropping acid and eatting mushrooms.
Champions of the new and adventuresome........2006-02-17
Chanticleer is most definitely this, and much more. I applaud them for always being willing to try something new and challenge listeners. This is one of the many things that makes them the premier ensemble that they are so well know to be. Certainly, this is not a disc for people who are looking for a non-challenging listen. But it still contains things that will delight such people, especially the magnificently sung Victoria motet. Jennings' Beata plainsong arrangement, Jackson Hill's "In Winter's Keeping", and Past Life Melodies in particular will surely delight almost anyone, especially those who are into "new age" or minimalist music.
The more you listen, the more you realize there is an astonishing amount of variety in this recording. Anyone who is a fan of Chanticleer's adventuresome excursions, incredible flexibility of vocal techniques, and flawless singing will not be disappointed.

From the roar of Tibetan horns and the clangor of metal percussion that opens Beauty in the Beast, Wendy Carlos in 1986 signaled a new direction for her music. Beauty in the Beast is Carlos's magnum opus, an album that should have established the synthesizer's role in the new global music landscape. More than that, it should have established Carlos as a composer and not just a Switched-on Bach jukebox. But not too many people were listening. Rereleased now after 14 years, Beauty in the Beast has lost none of its power. Carlos is both profound and poignant, dissonant and disarming on Beauty, as she fuses a global orchestra from her synthesizers. "Poem for Bali" is the centerpiece of the album, an episodic, 17-minute excursion as Carlos orchestrates the sounds and rhythms of a digital gamelan orchestra. In addition to replicating the metallophones, gongs, and flutes of the traditional gamelan, she creates her own hybrid sound designs, giving this work a surreal and sometimes harrowing tone, like a dream bent through funhouse mirrors. But then there are pieces such as "A Woman's Song," based on a Balkan melody. The title track merges nightmare landscapes and a crazed carnival calliope with a haunting theme that sounds like a lament for the end of the world. Beauty in the Beast is an essential recording of both modern composition and synthesis--Carlos should plug into this circuit again. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Weird, but it works.......2005-06-14
You've never heard anything quite like Beauty in the Beast, and it *does* take some getting used to. But once you have, it's a must-have record.
There are a variety of musical styles on BitB, ranging from african-sounding percussion to martian jazz. The title cut is just plain haunting.
The supplementary files include an essay on tuning, with audio files as examples. I found these to be very informative, particularly regarding the alpha and beta scales used in the title cut.
It's weird, but it works.
An amazing work.......2004-07-04
If you are unfamiliar with alternate tonal scales or non-western music, be prepared for a shock. When I first heard the CD in the 80's, I hated it. I listened again, and again, and began to retune and understand. Now it is one of my favorite albums, definite in the top ten. If you have an ear to hear, give it a listen.
Brain Damage.......2003-02-27
Instinctively attracted to classical music I have been unable to listen to this work without becoming physically ill. Constant shifts in tonality make this an interesting case study from a pathological standpoint but don't expect to enjoy it. This is music that has lost the center. There is no harmonic whole, there can be no cycle of fifths, scientifically justifiable yet all is arbitrary. This is the opposite of loop based music and the ultimate 'special effects' driven experiment. If you want non tempered classical music I recommend Harry Partch or Moon Dog or one of the more staid composers of modern music. Get this CD by all means. You won't be dissapointed.
The end of a long period of Tragic Unavailability.......2002-01-03
I have proudly owned a copy of the first release of this CD all these years. It is the best example I know of an utterly brilliant recording being tragically unavailable. As other reviewers note, the tuning does sound strange at first, but then one realizes how quickly one not only adjusts to it, but starts to hear it as natural and normal.
Do yourself a favor and get this CD now. It is indispensable.
The Most Beautiful Music in the World.......2001-09-02
Nonstandard tunings, masterfully used. Gothic, "Bush of Ghosts" feeling. Great instrument modeling, not trying to sound just like acoustic instruments but using attributes of their spectra as part of instrument creation. Uh, it's real pretty. Spooky and balanced.

Wheater's gentle music has long been a favorite of massage therapists, by whom he is appreciated as a sound healer and facilitator of sound workshops at New York's Omega and California's Esalen. A renowned flautist of considerable articulation, Tim Wheater studied flute with the magnificent master James Galway, who made the flute hip even for scrappy street kids. Wheater has also collaborated with noted spiritual creativity writer Julia Cameron (The Artist's Way, Vein of Gold) on a number of audio projects, including This Earth and the 1999 coauthored Soundtracks. Here on Incantation Wheater's considerable talents are evident, yet muddied by the attempt to do too much--Celtic, native, Tibetan, aboriginal and pagan New Age--all at once. A fine exception to such distraction is the "Circle's Edge," on which the keyboards pull back from the monastic choir-like vocals, blending beautifully with Wheaton's flute and the "Om mani Padme hum" chant. --Paige La Grone
Album Description
Incantation is Tim Wheater's debut album with Real Music. Exquisitely produced by David Lord in Bath, England, the nine original compositions, seamlessly woven together with Wheater's haunting flutes along with soft gongs, dynamic percussive rhythms and seductive, melodic vocals and chants, propel the listener through a vivid, contemporary and mystical experience.

Good for writing, etc, but not so much for Ritualism.........2004-08-04
This is a good CD. I like it a lot.. but it is labeled "To enchant. A use of spells or verbal charms, spoken or sung, as part of ritual magic." Hmmm, that peaqued my interest.. but that's not what it is to me. I often write my Book of Shadows or other work to it, but do not plan on using it in Ritualism. To me, musick made specifically for magick do not have any words, and if they do, they are minimal and direct. This is a soothing and enchanting disk for sure, but is not one I'd personally recommend for Spellcraft or Ritualism.
I really like Real Music records & they continue to put out good releases like this one. Thanks Tim, you are awesome. :)

Awesome.......2003-04-10
I love this CD. When my vehicle was broken into and I lost it I was very upset but then I found it online. It is the most relaxing and soothing CD I have ever come across.
One of the best New Age/Pagan CD's!.......2002-04-12
Hello! I just wanted potential buyers of this CD that I LOVE it!!! It's brilliant, especially the first track. I listen to it whenever I want to go into that "altered" state, or just relax. It stirs your emotions. GET IT.
He touches my soul.......2001-10-06
Incantation is the first of Wheater's cds that I've ever listened to before. It is unusual because I've never listened to a cd over and over again without overdosing on it after 3 or 4 times. I've probably listened to it 12 times through while driving and I'm not tired of it. Each piece is different from the other and keeps me interested. The vocalists do an incredible job. The music seems to touch my soul. Perhaps it DOES have healing properties. Thank you Tim Wheater.
from Solo Piano Publications.......2001-02-27
I really enjoyed flautist Tim Wheater's earlier collaborations with pianist Michael Hoppe ("The Yearning" and "The Dreamer"), but "Incantation" gives a much clearer view of Wheater's virtuosity on flute as well as his mastery of composition. Cinematic in scope and symphonic in scale, this is a very emotionally rich and fulfilling CD. Many ethnic influences are drawn from, and musical samples were recorded on location in New Zealand, New Mexico, and Australia. The very unusual instrumentation includes flute, cello, Celtic harp, electric banjo, digeridoo, crystal bowls, etc. Several of the tracks include vocals in English, Gaelic, and Latin, but the voices are mostly used as additional instruments. Several of the tracks ("En Trance", "Uluru", "Benedictus", and "Circle's Edge") are very heavy on the rhythm and percussion, giving them a tribal, somewhat ritualistic feel. "Pacificus" is much more ambient. "Seventh Ray", "Dark Falls the Night", "Love Is Here", and "Whistler's Lament" are tender and gentle to the core. There is an obvious variety of approaches on this CD, but a mood of darkly spiritual mystery (does that make sense?) is sustained throughout. Spiritual, but still melodic and accessible, and the various rhythms are infectious. I really enjoyed "Incantation" the many times I listened to it, and heard new subtleties each time. Hear, hear!
