About the Artist
Joanna Mell is a classically trained harpist who uses her talents, gifts and instrument to promote healing and well-being in her listeners. Joanna discovered the healing properties of music after the illness and death of a close friend in 1990. She now plays for hospice clients seeking peace and comfort, as well as pain relief. She also is a lay minister in the Brethren in Christ Church and plays for the monthly healing services.

      Cabin in the Sky is an excellent, excellent black film. Very entertaining and a movie that projects the power of a conscience. I first saw Cabin in Sky on the AMC channel with my dad when I was 15 years old. I am now 32 years old and every time I watch the movie it is as if I am watching it for the first time. This is a great movie and I can't wait for the DVD version.

      I have to give this CD 5 stars since it provides americans the only chance to listen to the fine voice of Kenneth Spencer. It's worth buing the CD just for the one track he's singing.

      CABIN IN THE SKY is one of my favorite films, and the soundtrack does full justice to the score and the performers. 5 extended versions and 4 outtakes are welcome additions to this entertaining CD. The combination of jazz and inspirational tunes surpisingly come together very harmoniously in this mixture of fantasy and reality. The sound quality is fine, though a stereo remix was not possible. From the opening "Lil' Black Sheep" to "Taking a Chance on Love" the score is full of gems and anyone who loves musicals will be inspired by this soundtrack.

      Duke Ellington, Ethel Waters & Lena Horne, what else could a musical ask for. Three giants of jazz & blues,who show us a small portion of their great indvidual talents on this soundtrack.

      Duke Ellington's , Going Up, Lena's version of Ain't it the Truth, and the wonderful swinging vocals of Ethel Waters. One of the african-american divas that was there when blues and jazz started, and one of the earliest to be recorded. Makes you wonder why more musicals were not made with these great artists.Reccommend also all of Miss Waters recordings reissued on the Classics Label from 1921-1940. This cd is a must for anyone interested in jazz or blues.

      This is the first time I have written a review for anything online and I do it because I owe The Don Marsh Orchestra a solemnn thank you for the peace this albumn has brouhgt me. I would listen to this disc each night before bed and it would calm me like nothing else. I have no problem sleeping but this album just made me enter slumberland in such a positive state I would wake up refreshed each day. This review is a bit corny but I really was relaxed by this music. Buy it, enjoy it.

        I am very happy Douglas Cleveland choose to perform a few contemporary pieces. These days there is so much good modernistic music yet very much CD's just perform the same old, same old.

        Dan Locklair is a great composer, "Windows of comfort" is a set of musical paintings inspired by the Texan designer Louis Comfort. The music is great in style, ethereal as well as dramtic. Locklair always uses beatifull melodies and the main melody he uses in Windows of Comfort is very nice.

        Another composer featured on this disc is Pamela Decker. Miss Decker is one of those rare heared geniuses in the world of organmusic. The work "Kairos" is all about time, creative waiting and change through waiting. Altough the work is exeptionally difficult to perform, Cleveland does an outstanding job. One can hear that Pamela Decker is also inpsired by Dupré (in the dramatic part of Kairos).

        The last six pieces of this CD are a bit of a dissapointment. Not that Langlais and Duruflé aren't performed well, but the acoustics are a bit overspacious, stuff get's drowned in the reverberation and the registration really has to fight with the acoustics. But this doesn't make the CD unlistenable, so it's still a good buy.

        When I purchased this album, I was impressed with the sound of the instrument, the accuracy of the organist, and the choice of music. With one exception, there aren't any pieces that are considered well-known, but all of them are well played and fairly easily appreciated.

        Only one problem exists, and that is with the naming of the pieces. One of the "pieces" listed is "Windows of Comfort" by Dan Locklair. This is actually a suite of ten pieces; however, only three of the pieces from that suite are played. If a person purchased the album to obtain a recording of that complete suite (as I did), that person will be somewhat disappointed.
