Customer Reviews:
World class musician strikes gold!.......2004-02-18
From the opening track to the end, this is a great cd. Beppe's depth as a guitarist and composer continues to evolve while keeping true to his flat-picking roots. Not an easy feat considering the amount of garbage out there today.
Strongest cuts are probably his version of Norman Blake's Church Street Blues, and two arrangements by Beppe: A Cimma, and Nova Gelosia, the later with gorgeous mandolin accompaniment by classical mandolinist Carlo Aonzo. Beppe's Italian roots are evident here.
To sum up, this is a cd to be enjoyed by fans of Doc Watson to fans of Italian folk- all done with the flat pick.
A nice mellow acoustic guitar album.......2003-05-30
Italian flatpicker Beppe Gambetta whirls out a nice set of acoustic instrumentals and pleasantly Gambetta-ized bluegrass oldies and adapted Genovan folk tunes. He starts off playing solo acoustic, then picks up several high-powered pals, including former member of the Byrds, Gene Parsons, and newgrass guitarist Dan Crary. Crary and Gambetta share a special wavelength, as heard on the dynamic duet, "Shenandoah Valley Breakdown." He drifts pretty decisively away from the bluegrass sound on most of this album, but the Italian material is also pretty interesting, and his melding of the two styles should get guitar fans all hot and bothered. Nice stuff... worth checking out!
