Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07
Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.
Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18
I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.
Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21
I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!
Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11
This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

Flake Music "Returns".......2004-04-14
Ever heard of Flake Music? Well, how about the Shins? Hit indiepop band the Shins had a former incarnation as the band Flake Music, before becoming huge with "Oh Inverted World." Flake Music's "When You Land Here It's Time To Return" is a bit rough and exploratory, but still catchy fuzzy pop.
There's a bit of everything in here: some college-rocky stuff (the warm, thoughtful "Spanway Hits," fast-strumming "Mieke," the slow-burning rocker "Blast Valve") and cool and sweet pop music (the delicate "Roziere," eerie "Vantage," the pleasant "Shins" -- yes, their later name originates from a song title). A handful of untitled tracks (a little rough around the edges) round it off.
"Early work" can be embarrassing or enlightening. With Flake Music, it's the latter. The early stuff isn't bad by any stretch, but it's still fumbling for the right niche to settle into. At times you can detect the influences (such as Built To Spill), usually indie-rock/pop of the 1990s. But it's so earnest that it's lovable, especially given what it morphed into a few years later. Even taken on its own, it's fun.
The swirly sound of the Shins is forming nicely in "When You Land...", with plenty of guitar both jangly and smooth. Some acoustic, some bass, a spattering of other little musical touches add up to a sort of delicately psychedelic-lite sound. That sound suffers, however, from some lo-fi sound quality that doesn't suit the music. Since it was recorded in a living room that isn't surprising, but the music deserves better.
The lyrics are nice work, charmingly bright and fun (except for a brief deviation into emo). In fact, the songwriting is polished and smart. James Mercer's high voice is a bit distant at times (such as in "The Shins"), but is flexible enough. He can be grounded and solid (as in "Mieke") or soar almost to a falsetto (as in the soft "Vantage," where he sounds like he's floating away).
The quartet from Albuquerque were still finding their way back when they were Flake Music, but their youthful fumblings are a pleasant, earnest sort of listen in the reissued "When You Land Here It's Time To Return." Well worth having for fans of indiepop.
Something Is Wrong On This Listing.......2002-01-05
Flake Music is a great indie-rock band (later to be known as the equally wonderful, though far more mellow "Shins"), but the track listing here refers to something altogether different (some sort of oldies collection or something)! As far as the actual album is concerned, you can order it on vinyl fairly easily through The Shins' label; the CD is quite difficult to come across, though.
the shins first album.......2001-10-15
this is the shins first album under a different name. to me it does not surpass that of "oh inverted world." if you love the sub pop release of the shins you would most definately want to own this album although it is somewhat hard to find. if you can find it i definately reccommend spending the extra cash to get it.
Cool collection of high-speed racing tunes!.......1999-09-16
From Davie Allen's "The Savage Four" to The Original Sins' "Under My Wheels" this is one of the most consistently entertaining comp CDs I've run across. Highlights for me include The Space Cossacks doing the best rendition I've heard of "Squad Car" and my #1 fave Boss Martians song, "Sleeper", a sweet love song about a broken-down-looking race car that's faster than it appears. As far as I know, unlike some comp albums, none of the songs here are available anywhere else! Get it if you can find it!

Gets you pumped!.......2006-01-12
Regardless of the fact that the title song does not garner an artist with the stature of a Paul McCartney, Carley Simon or Nancy Sinatra, it's effect is one of the most upbeat title songs in James Bond history! It really compliments the movie opening segment to a climax that gets you totally pumped up to watch more. Trying to follow up Paul McCartney's Live and Let Die is a tough act for anyone, but this definitely delivers!
ONE OF JOHN BARRYs MOST OVERLOOKED 007 SCORES.......2005-01-24
Back in 1974 many fans wanted John Barry back after his one film hiatus from the Bond series. Barry returned with a score to THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, Roger Moore's second outing as 007. Track-1: "Main Title: The Man With the Golden Gun" is very good. Lulu has an incredibly strong voice and the song has a certain rock element that was in contradiction to Binder's titles, yet it is very upbeat and sets the tone of the entire film. On this CD it sounds great and has improved with time. A beautiful girl on an isolated beach towels down Scaramanga as he emerges from the water in a surrealistically exotic locale. This sets up Track-2: "Scaramanga's Fun House" where Scaramanga lures gangster Rodney Hood into the funhouse in a duel to the death. This is a great track brimming with Barry's unique sound where the music first reflects the opulence of Scaramanga's domicile and then as they enter the fun house Barry creates a spiraling `stalking theme' mixed with source music from a Western saloon and Chicago Roaring 20s era gangland back alley. This `stalking theme' is central to the Scaramanga character and his deadly profession as the listener immediately associates the music with the character. Track-8: "Hip's Trip" is an excellent example where Barry is able to write suspense music using a repeating dynamic melody that builds in intensity. This is a technique he developed and has mastered ever since the safe-cracking scene in ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. This technique is probably the most identifiable stylistic trademark in John Barry's music. Track-3: "Chew Me in Grisly Land" is rich in oriental flavor and includes an effective slow paced rendition of "The James Bond Theme." John Barry does here for Roger Moore what he did for Sean Connery and George Lazenby giving them each their own unique musical rendition of "The James Bond Theme." Track-9: "Kung Fu Fight" features a good oriental motif and ends with a very catchy instrumental version of "The Man with the Golden Gun." One of the best cuts on the CD is Track-6: "Goodnight Goodnight" which is a very slow and haunting nocturnal version of "The Man with the Golden Gun." Track-7: "Let's Go Get `Em" is a tour de force of John Barry's new orchestration of "The James Bond Theme" identifiable with his Roger Moore scores. This track has a lot of punch behind it as it melds the very catchy instrumental version of "The Man with the Golden Gun" with a rousing rendition of "The James Bond Theme." Track-10: "In Search of Scaramanga's Island" is a great background composition to Bond's impressive solo flight through the uprooted rock formations near Phuket, Thailand to Scaramanga's island. Track-11: "Return to Scaramanga's Fun House" mixes Nick Nack's theme, the `stalking theme' and elements of "The James Bond Theme" as Bond is now lured into Scaramanga's game of death. This is an excellent climatic piece of scoring. Track-12: "End Title: The Man With the Golden Gun - Reprise" is in the tradition of the YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE album. The last track begins with a beautifully orchestrated version of the main title, which leads into Lulu's strong vocal rendition. I like this CD. It contained quite a bit of music from the film for once, running close to 45 minutes. When EMI reissued THUNDERBALL, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER and LIVE AND LET DIE with extra tracks it was rumored that they had also uncovered the original THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN score as well. Unfortunately, EMI was over their budget for this project and those extra tracks never made it onto the reissue of this soundtrack. Perhaps the length of music already on the album influenced this decision. Of coarse this is just speculation. On the positive side this soundtrack did not spare in its use of "The James Bond Theme" which most fans can't get enough of. My favorite cuts are Track-6: "Goodnight Goodnight" and Track-8: "Hip's Trip." "Goodnight Goodnight" stands its ground alongside Barry's best Bond compositions. "Hip's Trip" even though lightly orchestrated as already mentioned represented a new technique of repeating a dynamic melody that builds in intensity. This is a very interesting and satisfying James Bond album.
Remains a Good John Barry Bond Score to this day.......2004-02-05
This is an interesting album for several reasons. John Barry's music in general seemed to be going through a state of transition around 1974 and this album is a good example of that. Also, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN was the first James Bond score that Barry composed for Roger Moore as Bond. Moore at this point was trying to define his own interpretation of the character. Moore actually tried to reverse his performance from LIVE AND LET DIE, this time delivering his version of James Bond as a more stoic 007 within a script full of comedic trappings. Added to this director Guy Hamilton wanted an even lighter score than he had previously pressed John Barry into delivering in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. Considering all these factors, what we get is probably the most unique score from the James Bond series. Some people were pleased, some were not and some were indifferent. I happen to enjoy this CD quite a bit. It sounds great, having the same technical qualities the DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER album has, and it really contains quite a bit of the background score which you can never get enough of from any James Bond album. I really enjoy the main title that Barry composed for THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN. Lulu's vocal renditions are strong but the really power of this composition is demonstrated in the many instrumental variations that Barry composes using this theme. "Goodnight Goodnight" and "In Search of Scaramanga's Island" are very beautiful sounding tracks. Also, if you like the James Bond theme, Barry composed whole new variations utilizing the power of the orchestra giving the theme a whole new dimension and sound. You can hear these on "Chew Me in Grisly Land" and "Let's Go Get 'Em." All in all I think this is a great sounding album. It is well presented and balanced and is a good representation of the music heard in the film. It was a shame they could not find more music as they did for THUNDERBALL, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, OHMSS and DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. I still like this one just the same.
John Barry's worst entry in the Bond series..........2004-01-19
Maybe it's just me, but I think 'The Man With The Golden Gun' was truly a sign that Barry was getting tired of arranging Bond film scores, especially after coming out with the magnificent 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' and 'Diamonds Are Forever' as his latest contributions prior to this 1974 entry. Perhaps the storyline had much to do with it, but the music here is uninspiring, the theme song not one of my favorites and as others have pointed out, lacking in any extra tracks.
If there is one remastered CD to potentially avoid it is this one, but Barry would make another wonderful effort 5 years later with 'Moonraker'
Haunting score by the magnificent John Barry!.......2003-04-07
The Man With The Golden Gun is not one of the better films in the series. One however, cannot say the same about the music. While it is not considered to be the best work of John Barry, it is still good. The new CD has been remastered, but due to money restrains, no new bonus tracks have been added. The inner booklet has also been spiced up to include a few nice photos. The Man With The Golden Gun was performed by Lulu. It was one of the very few title tracks that didn't chart at all in the US or Britain. True that her voice was a little off and the lyrics are odd, but it is still a fine song. John Barry brought a far east flavor to the music that works very well in the film and on the CD. Scaramanga's Funhouse has the tension slow brass in it as does Return To Scaramanga's Funhouse, which is slightly longer and haunting. These tracks also include the honky-tonk interludes in them. Hip's Trip is a wonderful track that has a dark moody fell to it and works ver well. The Jazz Instrumental The Man With The Golden Gun is a Dixieland honky-tonk blast of crazy music and sounds in a fun rendition of the title song. This track is not featured in the film. My personal favorite and many others on the CD is In Search Of Scaramanga's Island. It is filled with a mysterious fell to it and a far eastern flavor. Very haunting and full of riveting tension. The CD ends with the end-title version of the title song in a much slower tempo. All in all, The Man With The Golden Gun is a good James Bond soundtrack filled with 12 wondeful tracks. A must for all Bond fans!

The Librarian, The Soundtack.......2007-05-10
I really enjoyed these shows and the soundtrack is well done. I have to say however I think the Return soundtack is a bit better overall.
Great score from LoDuca.......2007-01-31
This is a great deal! You get LoDuca's scores for *BOTH* Librarian films for 20 bucks? These are fun adventure scores in the vein of David Arnold' Stargate score among others. If you liked the music in the films, or just like good music, snatch this one up.
I also highly recommend LoDuca's "The Triangle" score, also on the La La Land label for a completely different kind, yet quite good score from LoDuca.

Jonatha Brooke's "I'll Try" is worth the purchase........2007-06-23
The soundtrack in total is better than most Disney Films...But the song "I'll Try" is a classic and the CD should be purchased to hear the singing and songwriting of Jonatha Brooke. Why this song did not get an Oscar nod, when songs of less substance do each year is perplexing. If you liked the film or did not even see it...the CD is worth the price. In addition Jonatha Brooke has many more CDs out of her music and one can instantly be hooked (no pun intended) at first listen...
Loved It! Loved It! Loved It!.......2006-02-25
When I saw the movie, I first saw it in the movie theater and then on Disney Channel. I heard the song "I'll Try" and immediatly wanted the soundtrack. I also wanted the movie. Jonatha Brooke's song made me want to fly. :) I personally never want to grow up and this movie and song help you stay childish and care-free longer. It trully is a beautiful song and a beautiful movie.
"I'll Try".......2005-02-17
The movie was okay, but the song "I'll Try" just made me want to see it again and again. It's so great!! I love it!!
Jonatha Brooke.......2003-06-19
Have to say I hated the movie, but when the song 'I'll Try' played, I immediately recognized the amazing talent of Jonatha Brooke. It is a beautiful song and if you enjoy it, I highly recommend you listen to her other stuff. She has several solo albums, all of which are good, but her best work (in my opinion)is the stuff she did as part of a Boston based duo called 'The Story'. Their album 'Grace in Gravity', is one of my all time favorites. The harmonies on the album are astounding and complex. Jonatha has a penchant for minor keys and her phrasing is unmistakeable. Superb stuff for the music enthusiast.
10 year old and loving it!!:).......2002-05-30
Personally I love Peter Pan things and that "I'll Try..."song made me cry when I saw it in the movie theater,And really all these songs are great...They make me feel like I never wanna grow up also...:)Those songs have that way that move you,Like make you sad....And man...I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!:)PETER PAN ALL THE WAY!Wahooo!:)

Customer Reviews:
Jerry Lee at his very best!.......2004-11-21
This is a box set I will always treasure for the rest of my life. After Jerry Lee left Sun in 1963, he started recording for the Mercury label and I must say that these were his very, very best recordings. Jerry Lee as you all know switched to country music in his later years and this set covers a lot of his country material from that era! I think the remakes of his old Sun hits are a lot better than the originals but the originals will always be the hits! I am 20 years old and have been a Jerry Leee fan ever since I was 11. His version of the country classic Green, Green, Grass Of Home is very moving and a lot different from anything Jerry Lee ever does. Yes friends, he was a wonderful balladeer! His classic I'll Make It All Up To You was a country hit in 1958 but many stations seem to play the 1963 version which is on this set and it is a great version, but the original of this song will always be my favorite. I highly recommend this set to every killer fan but like that other reviewer said, to start off you must get the Classic Sun Recordings box set. If anyone of you would like to Email me regarding Jerry Lee Lewis please do so at maheen5894@sympatico.ca
Long live the killer!
a landmark box set.......2003-03-02
this box set put together by the bear family(who know how to put
together a box)picks right up from where their 8cd "classic" left
off.it covers the killers years at smash records from 1963 to 1969. i would recommend the "classic" box first, but beleive me
this box is just as important.it shows his transition from rocker to country star! it's an interesting period with the first
couple of cd's mostly rock, and then a strong switch to country.
this box really opened up my music appreciation,i've never been
a big country fan,but this music is simply amazing!also in this
box set is a cd of a great unreleased live show from 1966!the last cd is a useless interview from 1976. this set is not as all
around strong as the"classic" 8cd box set(from bear family as well),but for killer fans it's a must have.it's great rock and country music played by a true original.
Daunting!!.......2002-10-19
Soooo....whatever became of the wild eyed "GREAT BALL OF FIRE" who fell from grace in 1958? He kept on rockin! This box is a great slice of AMERICAN MUSIC ,rock 'n roll, soul,r&b,and blues. Jerry was an admirer of Jackie Wilson,so naturally he paid Jackie the ultimate compliment,he cut a "KILLER" version of "Turn On Your Lovelight" to prove just how well he too, could "get down".There are so many outstanding cuts here,I am overwhelmed with them, trust me,these are some of the purist, truest, realist recordings to come out of this particular era,and unfortunately, not hardly any of them ever saw the light of day on the SMASH label,so you are in for a real shock ,as well as a real treat! I'm betting that once heard, the question will be,how could this music have been overlooked? How did this happen? How could this guy go on pouring out a talent the size of Texas and keep dealing with the rejection!? Mythical STUFF,indeed.
This entire body of work oozes a Bluesy,R&B soul. Think Delbert McClinton (except this was before ol'Del). This box should lay to rest any question of the supremacy of "THE KILLER" in the world of rock 'n roll, country, blues,or r&b. As the man himself once said" I never claimed to be the greatest...but I am the best.... this box goes along way in backing up that statement. If you're not in the know, get in the know and get this box!THINK ABOUT IT!

The Forgotten Bluesman.......1999-06-30
The later work of Jerry Lee Lewis is among the the greatest music ever made. His 1963 - 1969 years (which this truly superb box set covers) reveal the only really blues-based white rocker of the '50s revolutionizing the genres that first influenced him. This set starts off with bluesy versions of his old hits ("Great balls of fire",etc.) but then it gets really good: Lewis pours out his soul on such blues as "Mathilda" & "Got you on my mind" and shows he's the only white man of his times to sing black with such songs as "It's a hang-up baby" and "Turn on your lovelight".This is classic R&B & blues at its very best. Like his idols Moon Mullican & Jimmie Rodgers -who are the only artists who could equal him - Lewis is 100% bluesman and this fuels all his other genres. The latter CDs on the box set include Lewis' late '60s country hits (classics like "Another place another time" & "She even woke me up to say goodbye").Lewis' position as a blues and country midas are very under-rated - but this box set is an ideal introduction to the later work of Jerry Lee.

always as good as the one before.......2004-12-21
The title song is exactly right. When you've played out your string, you do want to go back to the land. The theme repeats at the end, with a tune about a man lost in a crowd and looking for the exit and some fresh air. A security man recognizes from his accent that he's a Maine man, "not far from the Exit door, but a long way from home." Bok may go a long way from home, but he's never far from his roots. This album includes some exotic tunes, but well rooted in the accents of Maine. Solid.
