Editorial Reviews
Audio Galaxy, Aug. 2001
"Damon Aaron's sound delivers a moving experience with it's organic strings and glitch spiritual hybrid."

Product Description
The distillation of 30 or so songs recorded for the much anticipated and as yet to be released LP, Eaves, the Cymbidium release is the first part of a much larger story, and an introduction to Damon Aaron. Though informed as much by hip-hop and electronic music as acoustic music, this body of work is not about genre or production. This is contemplative and personal storytelling in the tradition of Terry Callier and Nick Drake. Lyrically it manages to be both literal and impressionistic at the same time, mining the between spaces and finding the commonalities. This is the central theme of the larger work this comes from and is hinted at in its title track, 'Eaves'. Cymbidium includes 8 acoustic and epic soul pieces that are modern and timeless; sophisticated and simple; roots and future and was self-produced and largely recorded at home on 1/2" inch 8-track tape and MPC.

An amazing artist with a far reaching and eclectic style. His songs reflect his roots which reach far into everything from acoustic folk to soul to jazz and funk. This is a storyteller whose words are as important as his music. He takes hold of you from the first playing, and the more you listen the more you find his melodies and lyrics stirring in your soul.

Product Description

Cymbidium Records presents the long waited debut solo album "Imagine this" from Saine, a finnish musician/producer. Even though Saine prefers a more laid-back approach to life, he is unquestionably a perfectionist when it comes to music. Reflections from hip-hop, deep house and jazz can be heard throughout his productions, although Saine stays as faraway as he can from categorizing. Despite his obvious passion for especially the 60's and the 70's jazz recordings, he preserves an element of electronic music and slowly developing, visual soundscapes as an essential ingredient in his own material. Over the years Saine has tirelessly kept an eye out for both past and future, which has allowed him to shape a distinctive and tasteful sound of his own, staying just the right distance away from momentary trends yet managing to keep a fresh, edgy approach to his work. He mainly creates and enhances his music alone from inside the studio rather than doing live gigs. It enables him to use every bit of effort on keeping the music itself as intriguing as possible, everything else comes second to Saine.

5 out of 5 stars Sounds from the demoscene underground. Refined & original........2007-06-28

Imagine live instruments. Bass, violin, piano, some brass, all meticulously sampled. Then, somehow, this is put into an incredibly subtle mix with some old-skool electronic samples, warm beats, chilly ambient sounds and good old wax feeling with a pinch of a... hmm, somewhat dubby stylee.
Although the tracks tend to sound a little too similar, there are some that do stand out. This (perhaps over-)coherent approach brings a super fluent consistency over 40 minutes where each track has its own unobtrusive flow which is guaranteed to grow on you every time you press play on tape. Be it the first time or 127th. Imagine this.

5 out of 5 stars 21st Century Brilliance.......2007-04-19

If beauty were sound, this music would fill the air. The album is perfect. From the first mellow strains of 'Imaginary pathways' to the downtempo soul-infused vibes of 'First thoughts' and 'Donny', Saine crafts a cathartic and personal musical experience. I find myself listening to this album on rainy days for relaxed comfort as well as when I want to dance. Not many albums can work that kind of dichotomy. 'A Sense of Equanimity' is also a special highlight for me... really, there's not one stinker on the album. Every song plays with a gentle and delicate attention to detail, from the lilting muted trumpeteering to the round rubber beats. Very few albums stack-up to 'Imagine this' for me. The effort is obviously personal and the talent is striking. I will purchase anything this man releases. Buy this now!
