Product Description
Curious House is a lushly arranged mix of vocal and instrumental music from guitarist-singer-songwriter Steve Cloutier. The 61 minute CD contains 16 Cloutier originals that run the gamut of style and texture, blending elements of jazz, folk, pop, classical and new age music.

What makes this collection ‘curious' is partly due to the fact that it was recorded using only three guitars -- an acoustic, a digital and an electric. With the aid of Cloutier's digital guitar, Curious House sometimes sounds like a whole orchestra of musicians and instruments rather than one guy with a guitar recording a part at a time.

A few of the tracks on Curious House are the unique "looped" songs that Cloutier performs live. Looping is a technique where parts of a performance are recorded digitally while it is being performed and then immediately played back in loop form. This makes it possible for one person to build a virtual orchestra of guitars before the audience's eyes and ears.

5 out of 5 stars A Total Package.......2001-07-23

The more I listened to this album, the more I liked it. It's fun to hear how Cloutier constructs his complex songs by adding one instrumental voice at at time, each new refrain building to a musical climax. I also enjoy the lyrics and the sensitivity they express. There is some humor in the album, but mostly it is a thoughtful, lyrical effort by a fine musician.

Curious House is a delightful and long awaited addition to Steve's first album - Tin Cup. From the haunting beauty of "Kilmacduagh", the sweetness of "The Long Goodbye", the darkness of "Dead End", the clean simplicity of "Overcast", the nostalgic "Minnesota", the playfulness of "Zil", and the witty, irreverent humor of "Ground Zero" to the mult-faceted layers of "Words Can't Say" and "Japanese Garden" - this album has something for everyone! Steve's virtuosity with a guitar comes through in every piece. If I hadn't seen him perform some of these pieces live and solo, I'd swear he had a full orchestra at his fingertips instead of a guitar pick!
