One of thee Best .......2007-07-19
Nicole C. Mullen music from this c/d is thee best inspirational music that I have listen to for months on the way to work. Her spirit is beautiful. One of my friends was playing her c/ds in her store and I said who is singing this? I fell in love with her music and so did many of my friends! I have bought 3 of her c/ds so far...
Pulls at the heart strings.......2007-05-12
I have waited so long for her to come out with a new project. This one is well worth the wait.
Her Best Album Yet.......2007-04-07
There comes a point in the life of most artists regardless of the medium, where all that is intensely personal comes bursting forth. Sharecropper's Seed (Vol 1) is that album for Nicole C. Mullen. She wrote or co-wrote every track, co-produced alongside a new producer and has fully come into her own as a writer and musician. Sharecropper's Seed (Vol 1) is pensive, beautifully lyrical, and touches the areas of life that mean the most to her; namely her family and her relationship with Christ. Younger listeners may miss some of the hip-hop sassy sounds that she is famous for, but adults especially, will love this album with it's folk-styled contemporary, ruminative and mature flavor.

Customer Reviews:
The seed of memory.......2007-07-17
I courted my wife to the music of this LP the better part of thirty years ago. It was, and is still one of finest collections of ballads and truth's recorded.
Where was I when this came out?.......2007-05-13
I bought this cd because I heard 3 of the songs in Rob Zombies horror movie "The Devil's Rejects." Excellent movie. Now I grew up in the 70's, and I never heard of Terry Reid. But the songs in the movie were pretty good, good enough that they really caught my attension in a horror film. I looked this guy up on amazon, and discovered that the 3 songs I was looking for were on this one record. I ordered it.
I still don't know what to say. I thought, I'd heard just about everything. I'm a musician, and a music history buff. Where was Terry? This album is FANTASTIC! Sorrowful, jazzy, country like blues influenced, with one or two rock songs thrown in for measure. It is one of the most unique and beautiful albums I've ever heard.
It is truly an honestly wrought piece of work about what it was like in the mid seventies.
You know...I'd pay 100.00$ for this record and it would still be worth every penny. An album like this you'll own it forever. I'd like to thank Terry for putting this on the earth for us. He did more than he will ever know. A standing ovation. 5 super stars!!!!!
Perfect album!.......2007-01-02
This cd is his shortest cd, but his best one by far. The songs on this album were simply amazing. If you like crosby, stills, nash, and young, you will adore this cd! This album has a very chill mood to it that makes it an instant favorite. Every song on here is a classic. Terry Reid has a mildly raspy, amazing voice. I think Terry Reid is one of the best singers and song writers out there. His singing is powerful yet suttle. And you will highly enjoy this album.
Terry Reid:The best kept secret in Rock !.......2006-07-16
Seed of Memory by Terry Reid is a delightful collection of tunes... Think "California nites with a bottle of wine & trusted company"... The entire cd is solid, with standouts being the title track- Seed of Memory,Brave Awakening, and by far the finest track- To Be Treated Rite ! Terry's voice, along with producer Graham Nash adding vocals, David Lindley playing slide and an uncredited appearance by Joni Mitchell in certain spots- make this perhaps one of the finest records to come out of the 70's- BUY it proudly and Pass on the Knowledge !!!
WOW!!!.......2005-08-21
I've only recently become aware of Terry Reid. I was watching "The Devil's Rejects" and really liked the songs on the soundtrack, not knowing that Rob Zombie used 3 Terry Reid songs. I picked up the soundtrack and after listening to it ad nauseum for weeks,I decided to try to find some Terry Reid stuff. Boy am I glad I did! "Seed of Memory" has not left my CD player since I got it. EVERY SONG IS GOOD. There is not one song on this CD that I skip over. I play it over and over and over again obsessively. I just wish I was around when his music came out initially. I'm 29 and "Seed of Memory" was released the same year I was born (1976....a GREAT year!LOL!). Why can't today's music sound as cool as this?

Customer Reviews:
The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra needs a guitar player!.......2006-11-09
Granted, they only need it for one composition (the last one, "The James Bond Theme") but still, without the guitar it's just not the same. Barry didn't compose this one so I suppose it was a bonus and I shouldn't complain, really. The rest of the music on all the CDs is fantastic. Some of the stuff I had heard before without realizing who had composed it. Very enjoyable, to say the least.
Persuaders Theme!.......2006-03-02
Buy it for the Persuaders theme, probably the best TV theme song ever written.
A Variety Of Classics!.......2005-12-06
John Barry has been composing film scores for over forty years and this is only scratching the surface of his productions. Never mind that the entire set is recorded by the Prague Philharmonic; it's pure to Barry's themes. While John Williams compositions ("Star Wars", etc.) are wild and flamboyant and Jerry Goldsmith's (Hoosier's, etc.) are mood pieces, John Barry crosses over all barriers and is amazingly diverse. Barry has recorded most of the exciting James Bond themes, melodramatic classics like "The Lion In Winter' and moody theme hits like "Midnight Cowboy". He also tugs at the heartstrings with compositions from, "Somewhere In Time", "Frances" and "Out Of Africa". He varies his themes for all types of films and few composers capture it so well.
There is over four hours of music in this set with a colorful and informative booklet.
Incredible Barry Collection.......2004-03-11
Any fan of movies will absolutley love this collection. Being a movie buff I couldn't wait to get this boxed set. Knowing Barry from all the James Bond movies, I did not realize his involvement with so many others. The orchestra is magnificent in all these themes. I'm listening to "High Road to China" right now and I'm drifting in the clouds in a Tiger Moth with Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong. If you are familiar with a movie it will definitely have you seeing it again, if not the scores are still beautiful. Any fan of classical music will be pleased as well. Travellers will defintitely enjoy it for a long drive. I know from when I use to travel that music like this made the miles float by faster. I highly recommend these four CDs even if you just know a handful of the songs.

You may not know Dionne Farris' name, but you've heard her voice. Hers were the soaring vocals that powered "Tennessee," the breakthrough hit by alternative rappers Arrested Development. Here Farris steps out on her own with a strong debut called Wild Seed-Wild Flower. She smoothly blends elements of hip-hop and alternative rock while positioning herself as a new kind of R&B divathe anti-Whitney. Farris has a lot more on her mind than "I Will Always Love You." On "Don't Ever Touch Me Again," she tackles child abuse, while on "Stop to Think," she rails against drug addiction. But Farris never sounds preachy, and she even manages to take a Beatles song and make it her own with a slow, funky version of "Blackbird." .--Jim DeRogatis
Customer Reviews:
"Time slips ever fast instantly becoming the past".......2007-06-24
Whatever happened to Dionne Farris? The question poses some merit given that the former singer of Arrested Development made such a great solo debut. She had a very hip and relaxed nature about her with one of the best songs to hit radio during the mid 90's in "I Know." She even served as opening act for the Dave Matthews Band when they were first becoming popular. As for Wild Seed-Wild Flower, I haven't listened to this album(or CD)in quite some time until recently, and it still holds up as a terrific offering of rock, pop, and soul. Plus the gospel tinge in her voice still has that perfect passion that made her songs feel so sobering and uplifting when they played the first time around. I'm sure that "I Know" will one day find a second life when it gets played on future classic pop stations once the music of the 90's becomes retro.
no.......2007-03-13
please do not buy this. she has a great voice, but the only song worth anything on here is the 'i know what you're doing' single....
Wild Seed ~Wild Flower - - actually 3.5 stars.......2006-12-06
This is a good debut from an artist who burst on the scene with a phenomenal single, I KNOW. This song featured a mash of rock, pop & soul that touched a lot of fans across music genres. The only other song on the disc that moved me in the same way is, PASSION - that features a stunning baseline, unstructured melody & terric guitar-heavy chorus.
Other tracks that I still enjoy to this day are:
NOW OR LATER - she really toned it down on this one, her vocals are so sweet & light
11TH HOUR - features spoken word & a pretty melodic beat
WATER - her soulful wails & the construction of the song kind of reminds me of an old Rufus & Chaka Khan song
BLACKBIRD - again features really pretty vocals
Although it's unfortunate that Dionne didn't get to release a sophomore set, this is still a fun album that I continue to enjoy listening to as time goes by.
Great Single - OK Album.......2006-06-01
Great single, ordinary album. Going solo after her stint with Arrested Development, Dionne Farris seemed intent on making a statement of her own. The single, "I Know," promised a lot. Based on a snaking slide groove and a neat vocal hook, it gave the impression that Farris just might be able to break out. Unfortunately, the first solo album suggests Arrested Development without the diversity. Like that band, the musical topics are based on inner thoughts; sort of like cranial soul music. The titles alone give away - "Stop to Think"; "Food for Thought"; "Find Your Way"; Even the song "Passion" approaches the subject of the title as if it were a mental exercise. Naturally, the arrangements are intelligently constructed, perhaps even a bit fussy. If only she could have tapped into the passion that she found on her hit single, this would have been one heck of an album. All in all, there's just too much thinking going on here for the record to be much fun.
awesome album.......2005-11-24
the year was 1995 and I was addicted to the radio. This song was on heavy rotation in spring of 1995, it was the catchy melody of the chorus and funky guitar grooves that caught me. I guess she became a one hit wonder which is sad because she has talent for singing and songwriting and I hope she comes back someday.

In 1996, the Afro-Celt Sound System formed a sound clash that mixed Irish music, dance floor grooves, West African percussion, and the kora. While there were highlights, often with help from high profile singing guests like Sinead O'Connor and Peter Gabriel, the albums were fragmented. Now the members have shortened their name to the AfroCelts for their forth album, declaring that the Sound System isn't applicable because they've evolved into a more conventional and fully formed group. The change sounds radical, but it's really just a refinement in their working relationship and songwriting skill. Consequently, Seed holds together more strongly as an album. The songs are more consistently crafted and sonically rich here, with different voices and instruments coming to the fore, but never outshining the greater whole. Highlights include the blues slide guitar-driven title track, the wholly acoustic (which is a first!) and Irish jig-inspired "Ayob's Song/As You Were," and the Radiohead-influenced "All Remains." --Tad Hendrickson
Customer Reviews:
Music Should Rule the World.......2007-02-15
If music ruled the world...there wouldn't be any wars. This album is a perfect blend of two very diverse cultures, & yet the music works in perfect unison & harmony. The mystical style of celtic music, combined with the rhythmic style of traditional african music is truly unique!
I first heard Afrocelts in the soundtrack from Riding Giants(in Laird Hamilton's story - when he discovers a new way to surf giant waves)and it blew me away! It's one of those 'Serendipitous' things...
'Lucky Me' to have found this little treasure!
absolutely wonderful.......2006-09-21
I just got this three days ago.
I have been listening to it at work non-stop, ever since I first put it in.
So far, that's about 25 hours. Seriously.
The guest artists (22 according to the liner notes) on this disc are awesome. The energy.. mmmm... Somehow it's able to keep me going with a buzz all day, without forcing a frenetic burn-out as most of my other fast electro-ish albums inevitably do. Absolutely grateful. I have other albums by the Afrocelts, but at the moment, this is definitely my favorite. It's a gem.
A FABULOUS Blending Of Music!!!! 2 Thumbs WAY UP!.......2006-03-27
I maybe late in the game of knowing this group, but I am hooked now! My mother and I first saw them on tv, channel 35(wybe). We were just cruisin' thru the channels and heard this great music and just had to take a look! Glad we did! After I heard the song "Seed", that was all she wrote, LOL! I had to find out who this group was and I came down later that evening and looked them up on Amazon and orderd it! The blending of the different genres of music is pure genius!!! What a FANTASTIC find this CD is! Afro Celts' music will draw you in and keep you there! :0) All I have to say is ORDER IT!!!
4.5 stars - Just as good as Volume 3.......2004-12-30
"Seed" represents the fourth production of Afro Celt Sound System (here known as Afrocelts). This is one ensemble that only gets better with time. Their first and second albums I enjoyed, but nowhere as much as their third one. And this album, I find just as solid as their third production.
The album's balance between afro, celtic and new age music seems to favor the latter two, though there are plenty of african voice samples and drums. But the overall feel I get after listening to it, is that I've heard a very good new age album with touches of celtic music and a hint at african sounds. With the exception of "Cyberia" and the title track, in general I enjoyed more the shorter tracks. The best example of this is the introductory "Rise" and the 10+ minute-long piece "Rise Above It" that builds upon it. The intro is extremely powerful, yet the follow-up gets to a point where it cannot hold your attention much longer.
All in all, this is one solid production by this world music party. Don't miss it. Like most acts from Real World Music, it deserves a space in your music shelves.
Frightfully Disappointing.......2004-10-06
Let me start by saying I really love Afro Celt Sound System. My father introduced me to their first CD and now I'm more rapid about getting their new stuff than he is... Or anyway, I was.
The first two CD's were nothing short of relevatory for me, and the third seems to go in a different direction, but is still quite good.
Sadly, I feel like unlike Paul Mounsey (Nahoo, et al) Afro Celt doesn't seem to be aging well. I couldn't help but feel that Seed was very, very derivative and washed out compared to their other offerings. The same sort of over-produced sensation I get from Vanilla Pop rubbish on the radio.
I realize this is pretty harsh criticism of a group whose first 3 CDs retain an honored position in my CD case, but I just feel Seed isn't up to snuff. They can and have done much, much better.

Last of the Birthday party is a collection of aftershocks.......2006-07-03
If "Junkyard", the quintessential Bithday party album was the great earthquake in the punkscene, the songs on the following two E.P.'s (and the last of The BP) can at least be called some severe aftershocks.
The opening scream-out on "Sonny's burning" says it all: "Hands up who wants to die!" howlers singer Nick Cave in pain. And the deconstructive podium-busting of "Junkyard" goes on.
Then "Wildworld" follows, with its slow pacing drums and howling guitar; the song trashes the mind and soul and causes many lonely abandoned off spring to dance with their own shadows in the dark.
There seems to be more echoing effects in the guitars, and more contemplation and sanity in Cave's voice - not that the man is cured of whatever demons are troubeling him, thank God not, but the tight ensembling-work of The Bad Seeds come more and more into vision here.
"Jennifer's veil", a stiring emotional statement, hints at future Bad Seeds output; more singing tendencies than just spoken word or screaming, this track solely is worth a finger.
"Six strings that drew blood" is an early punk version of one of the best songs on "The firstborn is dead" album, the second Bad Seeds release. Although very rarely mentioned, is "The six strings..." version on the "First born..." album still one of Nick Cave's best pereformances, and here on the Birthday Party E.P. we have its original blueprint.
"Swampland" still has the chaos of "Release the bats" from the "Junkyard"album, as have the multi-vocals on "Mutiny in heaven".
Call it aftershocks, call it more matured and pollished, call it a musical testament, it's still all classic TBP.
This last release doesn't show any signs of decline or perishing of the band. It's just "Junkyard" little successor, and a good reason to to ponder on the question where Nick and the mates would have gone to, if The Bitrthday Party hadn't crashed that early in its own personal dark history.
One of the best cd's...........2004-09-11
If you don't love this cd (and many people won't), then you must have a very different taste in music then me. Yes, it's different. Yes, it's offensive. Yes, it's incredibly powerful. Mutiny in Heaven is insanity on a disc, Six strings that drew the blood is awesome, as is everything on this disc. Simply brilliant, and best disc to start a birthday party obsession with.
Tonight We Sleep in Separate Ditches.......2003-11-12
To categorize this CD as "goth" or "blues influenced" or "Stooges-like" is a gross oversimplification. Nick Cave is at his best bible infused morbid-ism. The addition of Einsturzende Neubauten's (and future Bad Seed) Blixa Bargeld on `Mutiny in Heaven' is pure genius. The CD in its entirety is pure genius. A timeless classic, for sure.
An excerpt from `Deep in the Woods':
Now the killed waits for the killer
And the trees all nod their heads, they are agreed
This knife feels like a knife feels like a knife that feels like it's feed.
Yeah I recognize that girl
I took her from rags right through to stitches (pray for me now)
Oh baby, tonight we sleep in separate ditches.
Wow! Postmodernism can be interesting!!!!!!!!.......2003-05-26
Every song on this compilation of two EP's is a highlight of goth, and rock and blues. Opening with the wierd "hands up who wants to die" Sonny's Burning will make you feel just like youre at a lynching - of someone who listens to commercial FM radio ( so they're not advocating anything bad ). The songs on the Bad Seed tend to be particularly percussive with a basic blues structure. Mutiny is more of a layered, introspective sound, like the earlier B.P. recordings like Prayers on Fire, although they are raucous and designed to grind. The ending of this cd is an ode to the herion addiction that the band loved to hate.
oh my lord!.......2002-02-24
This is one of those albums, that at first listen, i gasp, jump up and down, shake my hands wildly and start chanting "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!" IT ROCKS!!!! Nick Cave and his cohorts create such believably dark and menacing atmospheres that you can feel the fear. it's sooooo raw. all the tracks have this sleazy evil mood...like a strip joint in the swamp at night. all the tracks are perfect; it's one of those perfect cd's that can be listened from start to finish. it's just so coherent. if you want a goth cd...i mean real dark goth...get this cd. it basically screams "Hands up! Who wants to die?"...well actually Nick does. ;-) you can hear all the Stooges influence...It's like "Nightclubbing" meets "Search and Destroy"...super charged doom and gloom. God Bless You, Birthday Party!

You will love this album! Even after all these years it brings a smile to my face and one of the songs even brings a tear to my eye. I loved it as a kid and hope to pass it on to my own kids someday!

Poi Dog Pondering founder and only constant member Frank Orrall has rarely stood still since forming his group in Hawaii in 1986. He's maneuvered his band through nearly as many different cities as line-up changes. The eclectic outfit has gradually found its niche somewhere between the easygoing acoustic rock of the Dave Matthews Band and the pan-American rock and R&B fusion of Santana. Its ninth album is typically overflowing with ideas and energy, as the fifth line-up of Poi Dog Pondering takes up the experimental bent of 1999's Natural Thing, mixing strains of folk, electronic music, and soul into uplifting tracks like "A Love Rains Down" and "Keep the Faith." --Aidin Vaziri

You Move Me.......2006-12-29
This has to be one of my all time fav bands, and this one...my fav song!
Great Listen
Poi pleases once again.......2005-07-26
This is your typical beautiful poi cd. Even though it is a bit more synthesized than their earlier stuff, that's what I prefer. If you like liquid white light, natural thing, and their newer sound this cd was made for you. It is powerful...keep bringing it on pdp!
Straddling the line..........2005-07-04
There's a fine line between elevator music (so-called "Musac") and ambient rock, and at times this latest one from Poi Dog Pondering crosses the line. It's not that "In Seed Comes Fruit" is a bad album by any means. In fact, it's quite ambitious when combining world music with sly, pulsating techno waves and rolls. Indeed, like more mainstream acts such as Santana, Dave Matthews Band, and even Moby to an extent, Poi Dog encoporates nearly all types of music (world, jazz, etc)into each album (and occasionally each song). Whether melodic acoustic or soothing piano that resembles something off of an "Air" album, nobody can accuse this album of being narrow-minded.
Unfortunately, however, that's where things stop. The music may be open-minded, but that doesn't mean it's inspired. By the middle of "In Seed Comes Fruit," the listener has heard everything the album has to offer. In a word, the music gets a little tedious. Unlike it's cousin, the rather silently brilliant "Natural Thing" album released several years earlier by Poi Dog, "In Seed Comes Fruit" is hardly a journey. None of the songs posess any real "groove" that wants the reader to, at best, keep listening and at worst, even stay awake.
As other reviewers have said, the members of Poi Dog failed to liven things up at all on this album. Hopefully on their next go at it, they'll turn up the bass and speed a few tracks up a bit. Anything to give the listener something to move to rather than music that simply blows like a breeze (and a breeze that never really goes anywhere, at that).
A good album but misses the PDP standard.......2004-09-25
I'm a huge PDP fan so of course I was excited to hear their most recent offering. After hearing some of these songs live I was somewhat disappointed by the album. It's still pretty good but lacks the energy of its predecessors. It's a good album if you just wanna chill out and relax although at times - it's dangerously close to something you'd hear in an elevator.
In Seed Comes Fruit.......2003-12-30
I've seen Poi Dog Pondering live a number of times and have always loved their energy and vibe, both of which are missing on this CD. In Seed Comes Fruit is a huge disappointment. The songs are totally over-synthesized and all sound the same. I couldn't even make it through the whole CD.

Basic Stoner Rock.......2003-07-26
If you like the fun genre known as "stoner rock," then you'll like Sixty Watt. They revel in Sabbath riffs, mixed with liberal doses of southern rock. In this case, that's not all bad. "Fear of Death By Water" has some cool slide licks and singer Dan Kerzwick's rasp sounds like he just drank a 5th of whiskey. "Low Earth Orbit" has a laid back groove and existential lyrics, while "Roll The Stone" is pure Skynyrd all the way. As with a lot of bands that play this kind of music, their repetoire is limited and after awhile the songs tend to repeat themselves. This record is a good beginning though.
Some of the best stoner rock!.......2002-11-26
I like this much better than Queens of the Stone Age or even Kyuss. I think this is the best stoner rock band around.
A new beginning..........2002-10-04
This was their first true recording project, although it was thier second full album. I give this album four stars, because, though I love this album and this band, Five stars would mean it's an album that stands next to Physical Graffitti, the White Album, and a select few other records. This album is a must own for fans who enjoy any of the splinter disciplines of what Sabbath, Hendrix, and Zeppelin started. An album worth the money, with many great songs and performances. If there are any criticisms, one would be the production. It leaves some room for improvement. Beyond that, I hope this band can continue to build upon this awesome release for years to come. Purchas and enjoy!
Sixty watt Shaman ROCKS!.......2002-09-02
If you like bands like Down, Hendrix and Sabbath you may like this band. Sixty Watt Shaman have stated those bands have influenced them heavily. And you can really tell. I think they are a solid southern heavy stoner style Rock band. If you mixed 50% Down with 40% Hendrix and 10% Ozzy/Sabbath you would get something that resembles Sixty Watt Shaman. Though in my opinion they are not Nearly as good as Down. I still think Shaman ROCKS!
Got rock?.......2002-05-16
Do you like Clutch? Because if you do, you'll recognize a lot of that band's sound here. Thick, heavy grooves? Check. Gravelly, wailed vocals? Check. Thumping rhythm section? Check. Massive guitar riffs and fuzzy lead work? Well, you get the idea. However, past the Clutch resemblances, there is a lot that makes this album interesting. Joe Selby is an outstanding guitarist who pulls off an enormous array of sounds. Opener "Fear Death By Water" demonstrates the range of his abilities right off the bat, with a combination of monster riffs and addictive slide guitar work. Other, slower tunes see him branching out into acoustic work, with Dan Kerzwick bringing his vocal energy down a notch to match. The band mixes harder tunes with the slower and softer stuff for a while after "Fear Death by Water," until it reaches its peak towards the end with the monstrously heavy "Red Colony" and "Rumor Den." There aren't any truly weak songs on here, and the diversity of the songs keeps "Seed of Decades" from ever getting boring. I look forward to more good things to come from this band.
