I know every note of every song on this album. I grew up with it, and it is printed on the walls of every cell in my body. I highly recommend it.

    Recorded in 1963, this was the first album in a string of wonderfully intoxicating, tub thumping, jug whumping goodtime jug band music. Kweskin formed a group with like-minded personnel, (among others, Maria D'Amato from the Even Dozen Jug Band and Geoff Muldaur, a solo artist who had just released "Sleepy Man Blues" on Prestige Records) performing standards and forgotten gems. Sweet Sue is a real treat, juxtaposing Geoff Muldaur's haunting subdued vocal with Kweskin's bouncy interlude... and how can one be upset with a tune about a hooker offering her services when it is done in such a feel good manner as in Beedle Um Bum? Start your Kweskin collection with this CD. Also pick up the Kweskin sampler Acoustic Swing & Jug, which has selected tunes from this and the two succeedent recordings.
