This is a very good cd - the first one they did, and my personal favorite. I have never understood how this fine group keeps getting overlooked.

I've owned this CD for almost 5 years and it is still one of the best produced CDs in my collection (the kick drum sound is amazing). The band writes fantastic songs and is one of the greatest Chicago exports ever.

I own this CD and had to unique opportunity to sit in a small recording session in Detroit sponsored by 105.1, a local radio station. The music is superb, and the guys are very personable. I would reccomend this CD to anyone and everyone who loves modern rock. These guys are great live, too, so check them out at a venue near you.
One of the best rock/alternative records of 1999!!!.......1998-12-04
This record is released on January 26, 1999. The title is - 001 - and is promises to be one of the best records of 1999. This Chicago band is signed to Aware/Columbia Records. I work for Aware Records and I can tell you that this CD is absolutely amazing. Ten songs, each delivering everything you should want from a modern rock band. Nothing fancy, no gimmicks here. 001 is going to be a low-priced CD, so take a chance, it will be well worth it. You heard it here first. Listen for the single, 'Level on the Inside', to hit radio mid-January.

Unbelieveable talent!.......2006-03-10
I have had the pleasure of hearing these two sing in person, they are incredible. Their harmonizing is beautiful. I have heard John Hermanson solo many times as well. It amazes me how much talent this man has - his voice is mezmerizing. AND he plays many different instruments...true talent like this is rare.

Their masterpiece?.......2000-01-26
While I've only heard approximately 50% oF Mecca Normal's recorded output, I believe this short, little LP is there masterpiece. All 11 cuts are keepers and they flow remarkably well considering their broad range of emotion. David Lester and Jean Smith are at their best as Lester improvises warped guitar jangles and thick power riffs under Smith's affected nasal croon. Smith's vocal venom is as lethal as another Smith, Patti Smith. From introspective and brooding selections like "Throw Silver", "Cherry Flowers", and "Not Yet" to bracing and electrifying numbers like "Held", "Once", and "Flashlight", this album begs for frequent listens. Particularly of note is "Clatter" which is one of my personal favorites of the duo's fertile collaborations.

Underrated band........2005-08-11
I think it was the song I kept hearing on the radio "Level on the inside", that made me want to go buy this CD. Turns out all the songs were just as good. I also got a chance to see the band live in Milwaukee a few years back. Though I got a little distracted by the fugly tanned guy smoking pot in front of me. He had this little patch of hair/fur on his back that made me think MUTANT KEWL DUDE. Anyways, this is one of my top 10 favorite bands of all time & top 10 CD's of all time. Thanks.

This album, sounds like a seven mary three, or metallica fans idea of expanding there mind into the dark side of the universe that contains all the good music. just bad.

i was in tower records in concord and found this album. I have never heard of this group, i just thought their name sounded cool. that gamble paid off! it's and awesome album.. I wish they would come to california and put on a show!
This is the most underrated band ever!!.......2001-07-26
This band is awesome, but nobody has heard of them. The only recognition they get is the radio single "Level on the Inside." Their songs are beautifully written and catchy, and honestly, I don't know why they aren't topping sales charts with this masterpiece, 001.
Listen Carefully.......2000-08-25
I found Dovetail Joint's OO1 in the New Releases bin at a Circuit City. I listened to the opening song "Beautiful" and felt a instant adrenaline rush. I bought the CD and took it home in anticipation. I didn't get what I expected. I expected a band with pretty good guitar riffs and catchy hooks. What I got was a band with Depth and perception. It sounded simple, yet if I LISTENED CAREFULLY, I could hear a certain sureness in their music. Let's just say, that when I heard 001, I fully believed these guys were making the best music nobody has heard yet and that they believed it as well. From the Songwriting in "level on the inside", to the almost lamentful "Here we are" to the change ups in "lullaby" I was amazed at the use of sound and texture to make each song different, yet the whole album flowed rather cleanly and evenly. All in all I would tell anyone to buy this album if they like music of any kind. Be it pop, rock, metal, emo, or whatever, Dovetail Joint's 001 Lies about it's simplicity on the surface and let's you into it's world of melody and meaning if you LISTEN CAREFULLY.

just saw chuck live in frederick, md and bought the CD. he's great live and the CD captures it well too. really mellow acoustic folk. has a style and songs that your soul has been waiting to hear.

Like a gourmet meal for your ears, From the Rooftops, is a delicious listen that soothes and captivates the soul. Chuck E.'s thoughtful poetry put to music covers the spectrum of listening pleasure. Light, and carefree are "Just a Dog" and "Playmate," while "Able," "Car or the Opossum," and "Old Glory" ask you to think a little longer while the melodies and acoustic richness carry you. A fantastic album that will complete and compliment any Folk or Indie menu.

If you like well crafted, reflective, acoustic music, you should give Chuck E. Costa a listen. His amazing gift for words cut to the heart of the matter, whether it is the confusion of our current political state or the the joy of just have a great time,.Chuck captures it with a beautiful rhythm, a turn of the phrase, and a pure experience for the listener. It is refreshing to hear harmony and unplugged guitar with poetry lately; and this is the greatest companion to long drives and reflective moments. "Old Glory" is a great favorite, as it poignant lyrics and catchy tune will attest to, but I also love "Six Honest Serving Men". I love this new artist; and know that great things are coming from such a great songwriter and musician. And hey, if you get to hear Chuck performing live, take it while you can!

nah, not really, but i like de nice try.......2006-04-14
I bought this album only because of it's alleged ties to the Gong "You" album. And there are some resemblances, indeed, though simplistic. Overall these are not too notable but are more like tendencies or surface scratching. There are also some more outspokenly new age'ish elements present. But the very steady fusionist backbone is not my bag, and the drummer keeps to steady a beat at most times so it gets too straight funky at often. The arrangements are too predictable and too focused on effects in themselves. Even though the small "glocken" pieces are quite nice.
However, this album was brought out in 1985 a time when IMHO almost no good music was produced. I cannot say this set leaves you either impressed nor unimpressed, but still I like the effort to reintroduxe space rock in a time like the 80s when all ideas were dead.

Granted its only got 5 or 6 song but there pretty good, especially "Level on the Inside" That is by far one of the most rockin tunes I've ever Heard...Period. Get IT!!! You'll love it. These guy are gonna be big!!!!
