When Concord Music purchased Fantasy Records in 2006, the bulging Stax catalog came along for the ride. Not a bad deal, especially since Stax remains one of the richest and most vital sources of '60s and '70s soul, blues, and R&B. The newly reactivated label's debut release is a lavishly boxed double-disc set of 50 highlights--as opposed to hits--from the Memphis label's voluminous vaults to celebrate its 50th anniversary. All the usual suspects appear, including Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Isaac Hayes, Johnnie Taylor, Eddie Floyd, Albert King, and the Staple Singers. But the compilers deliver a well-rounded, even eclectic collection by including tracks from such relatively obscure acts as the Astors, Ollie & the Nightingales, the Mad Lads, Linda Lyndell, and Mable John, whose "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)" is one of the great lost soul treasures. Propelled in large part by house band Booker T. & the MGs, the majority of these songs have become integral threads in the fabric of American soul. Even at two and a half hours, there's not a dull moment here. That is a testament not just to the Stax musicians, but to a label whose artists defined a classic sound that remains as timeless, relevant, influential, and electrifying as when it was recorded. --Hal Horowitz

Customer Reviews:
Before and After.......2007-07-21
In 1968 there was a changing of the guard at Stax and the results were dramatic. The whole approach to making music so changed (along with so much else in the world at the time) that you hear two almost seperate catalogues. For me, the earlier period just defined "soul" and that music and those musicians hold a very special place in my world. Stax most likely sold a lot more records in the latter period.
It is still a very worthwhile collection as it makes the transition really clear musically and the booklet in the box does a decent job of lending insight into the inner workings of Stax and the folks involved.
I also found it interesting that the best known songs and artists still stood out from the more obscure ones. The public got it right in this reviewer's opinion. The downside to that is that I didn't find many hidden gems.
stax of hits.......2007-07-07
STAX have a reputation for pure soul as opposed to a certain label who
'motored' off in to a commercial watering-down of black music. Here we have
a generous fifty tracks on two cds of real soul music, not all hits, but all
representative of what STAX could do.A great compilation!
Two and a half magic hours.......2007-06-19
When "The Summer of Love" enters the conversation, most of us mean San Francisco, 1967. Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead. Be-Ins. Flower Power. Sgt. Pepper.
If by "love" we mean white kids from all over the country convening in urban crash pads --- well, that sets the bar pretty low, doesn't it? Given the opportunity, we could have done that. A lot of us would, even now. Just tell us where to show up.
A year before Martin Luther King, Jr. was killed there, it was a lot harder to show the love in Memphis. And yet, in an ancient movie theater in South Memphis, black and white musicians made some of the most inspired music we'll ever hear.
Let Motown own the slicker-than-snail-snot "commercial" franchise of urban black music.
And nine bows to Atlantic, with 18 singles on the Billboard Hot One Hundred Charts in the late Spring of 1967 --- ranging from Aretha Franklin doing the unofficial black national anthem ("Respect") to the white Long Island band, the Young Rascals. The only other competition Stax had in this rarified interracial zone in the late `60s: Sly & the Family Stone.
At Stax, something wonderful flourished, and it's in the grooves for all to hear --- starting with an interracial house band backing up such megawatt soul signers as Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Rufus Thomas and Eddie Floyd. Their influences were various: rock, pop, country, blues. Mixed together, they produced music that was at once familiar and not --- music that jarred the ear just enough that you had to listen to it.
But "produced" isn't quite the right word. At Stax, they mostly recorded "live." Even when they didn't, the theater's acoustics made music sound "live." As a result, you heard an excitement --- a vibrancy --- in these records that was available nowhere else in American popular music. Just listen to one of the 50 songs on the Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration when the horns --- horns! --- kick in and you'll remember how exciting music could be.
There was so much talent on the label it was able to survive the December '67 plane crash that killed Otis Redding and two-thirds of his backup band. The reason: Stax had the Staples Singers coming on strong. And Stax had Issac Hayes.
You remember "Shaft" --- "can you dig it?" But Hayes also self-produced "Hot Buttered Soul", a record that featured an unlikely 18-minute version of "By the Time I Got to Phoenix." This was as radically different from `60s pop music as Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On."
This two-CD boxed set has hits galore: "Green Onions", "I've Been Loving You Too Long", "Knock on Wood", "Born Under a Bad Sign" and "Respect Yourself." It also has songs you don't know, oddities that sure sound like hits.
The through-line: men and women singing one love song after another. The music can be raw --- loss makes for even better songs than happiness --- but I don't think I'm making it up when I say the primary ingredient of that music is love. First, of course, love of music, pure and simple. But more, love of the historical moment, love of the knowledge that when we're creating together, there's no reason we can't get along.
This Stax set is testimony to a grand idea, now honored too often only with empty words. It's also great fun, music that holds its own with the best pop this country has ever produced --- music so enjoyable you can forget the moral it contains.
Great mucic with great package.......2007-05-21
This is terrific music. These 50 songs will be among the best you will own in your life. No fillers.
Stax & back to my youth........2007-05-20

One of the more impressive things about A Christmas Celebration is its glowing immediacy. The record's rich vocals and colorful instrumentals create a concert-like setting, reprising the season's most loved hymns, carols, and pop standards, along with a Gaelic version of "That Night in Bethlehem." Unexpected numbers such as "Christmas Pipes" and "Carol of the Bells" (here led by the spirited fiddling of Mariread Nesbitt) only enhance an already engaging disc that finely weaves between the piety of classical music and the playfulness of pop. Chloe Agnew, Orla Fallon, Lisa Kelly, and Meav Ni Mhaolchatha combine their Celtic voices against orchestral arrangements and sparser settings--spiked with the traditional Irish fare of uilleann pipes, harp, and ancient choral harmony--to deliver an assortment of reverent but lively arrangements that wouldn't be out of place at a church, concert hall, or good Irish celli. --Martin Keller
Amazon.com
Irish producer/arranger David Downes, the creative mastermind behind Celtic Woman's chart breakthrough and burgeoning international success, here conjures up an inviting holiday showcase for his neo-superstar crossover quartet. He pushes the group's crowd-pleasing formula into more expansive arrangements with the Irish Film Orchestra, supplemented by a strong core of featured instrumentalists, including Downes himself. If the ethnic folk influences that gave the group its name are sometimes less pronounced, the result is a collection whose dignified, pop elegance often transcends national boundaries. The vocal performances are expectedly polished, with the quintet breaking off into smaller units and solo showcases such as Lisa Kelly's Broadway-lullaby take on "The Christmas Song," a neo-classical "Panis Angelicus" by Chloe Agnew, and the muscular orchestral/choral setting for Mariead Nesbitt's earthy fiddle on "Carol of the Bells." The quintet (backed only by Nesbitt's spare strings) harmonize richly on "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and bring their trademark neo-Celtic charms more fully to bear on intimate translations of "Silent Night" and "The Wexford Carol" as well as a glorious take on the Gaelic traditional "That Night in Bethlehem." Perhaps to remind fans of their true range, the swinging, big-band bonus track "Let It Snow" closes the collection with upbeat flair. --Jerry McCulley

Amazon.com essential recording
Happy is the composer who has an advocate as passionate and talented as Leonard Bernstein. These Copland performances have been the preferred versions since they were first issued--better even than the composer's own, later recordings. Originally they were spread over two discs, but thanks to the extended playing time of the compact disc, you can now get all three great Copland ballets together, along with the ever popular Fanfare for the Common Man. Bernstein brings to this music the right sharpness of rhythm but also a typically open-hearted warmth. He coaxes a virtuoso response from the New York Philharmonic, which knows this music as well (or better) than anyone. Self- recommending. --David Hurwitz
Customer Reviews:
What more could one ask for?.......2007-06-27
Aaron Copland's masterful works are here interpreted by Bernstein. Nothing says the American sound like Copland, and there is no better interpreter than Bernstein. This recording is one of the best in my collection. I would recommend this to anyone (even non-classical music fans).
Definitive Is Right.......2007-02-27
I have the SACD version of these recordings (except for the "Fanfare" which, in this case, is the version taken from Bernstein's recording of Copland's Third Symphony) and I must agree with others here that the performances are definitive. The "Rodeo" has more energy than any other recording I know of, in fact it can almost go over the top! "Billy the Kid" is quiet and tender, dramatic and bold and "Appalachian Spring" is dead-on. The last section of this ballet is one of my very favorite pieces of music and Bernstein's tempo and phrasing here could well be called perfect.
Definitive Recordings of Copland's Popular Ballet Scores From Bernstein, NYPO.......2007-02-11
Without question, this splendid CD is my favorite recording of some of Aaron Copland's most popular orchestral ballet scores. In Leonard Bernstein he had both a good friend and a devout ally, who successfully championed Copland's music, helping to ensure his reputation as one of the greatest - if not the greatest - 20th Century American composer. Sony has done a superb job in digitally remastering this recording, offering some of the best sound I've heard from a vintage Leonard Bernstein/New York Philharmonic recording. But more importantly than the recording's superb sonic quality is the quality of these performances of Copland's scores. Bernstein leads in New York Philharmonic in these virtuoso performances, replete with lush, vibrant playing from the winds, horns and strings. His warm, truly heart-felt interpretation of "Applachian Spring" is truly mesmerizing, and the best I have heard from a recording. And yet, I am am just as impressed with his conducting of both "Rodeo" and "Billy the Kid"; the latter replete with superb solos from the orchestra's timpanist. An elegant performance of "Fanfare for the Common Man" closes out this CD recording. Fans of Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra shouldn't hesitate in acquiring this superb CD.
American Music at its Highest .......2007-02-04
If I was forced to recommend one CD of American music, I would feel very safe in backing this one. These interpretations have yet to be surpassed, and not even Copland himself could muster the same type of perfection that Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic did in this recording. Bernstein's way with Rodeo is unbelievable, and this alone is worth the price of the disc. The music on this recording has a lot to do with why, as Americans, we can all be proud of our place in the history of western music.
With 39 reviews under me, I will dispense with the adjectives to try and describe each interpretation of each piece on this disc, and simply say that these performances have been recommended by almost everyone (professional critics included of course) since they appeared; get it and find out why.
The best of Copland.......2007-01-09
For the Aaron Copland fan, this CD has the essentials: the most popular and easy listening of the Copland body of creations. Enjoy!

Johnny Mathis's 2006 return to the spotlight was richly deserved, not because his career needed resurrecting--he's continued touring and recording for breathless fans well into his seventh decade--but because post-boomer generations shouldn't be allowed to roam the world asking "Johnny Who?" when his name gets mentioned. Mathis is that important an artist, and this compendium of his work, best thought of as a winking glance, does an able job of demonstrating why: "Chances Are," a slice of pop brilliance set to a piano with a broken heart, has always sounded as though it's been pulled off a silver platter. The Mathis voice--rich and deep at some turns, high and fragile at others, poured gold either way--seals it in timelessness; it's a pop scholar's very definition of a classic. "Wonderful! Wonderful!" throws off the same sparks to a lesser degree--delivery-wise, it's nearly impossible not to attach the word delightful, and overall it reeks of cultural importance. The rest of these songs add up to a case study in why Mathis matters: "Misty" may be dusty, but it still melts the heart. And "When Sunny Gets Blue," with its slow, sad strings, stings with Roy Orbison-caliber potency. Two previously unreleased tracks, "So Many Stars," produced by Sergio Mendes, and "The Shadow of Your Smile," with Dave Koz and Chris Botti, shine a light on Mathis's more recent work. It holds up brilliantly (not easy, considering Mathis's clean, distinctive voice). It also accounts, probably, for this disc's closing track--Ray Charles wouldn't have recorded his late-career rendition of "Over the Rainbow" with just anybody. If you didn't hear it on Genius Loves Company, hear it here. --Tammy La Gorce

I recognize some of the songs from when I was a kid, like Monster Mash and Chewing Gum, and then there are ones from well before my day like Rockin' Robin.
I highly recommend this CD!
Good Clean Fun!!.......2007-05-07
As a mom, I am always on the lookout for music for my young kids. Our oldest wanted something he could keep in his room to listen to, but so many CDs these days have questionable lyrics. I wanted something he could listen to whenever he wanted. I found it!!
This CD is so much fun for the whole family to listen to...kids, parents, grandparents...everyone will love it! I was amazed that I could get all of these fabulous songs by ORIGINAL ARTISTS on one CD for this price! Usually, you will pay this much for music done by immitation artists. This was great! The kids thought so many of these songs were funny...Yakkity Yak; Splish, Splash!; Willie & the Hand Jive. We all had a few laughs and some very funny dancing. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!
Kids and adults will love this.......2006-08-17
A lot of the classic Rock and Roll songs of the late 1950s-early 1960s on this album. This is a great album to introduce to young kids and adults who love classic rock and roll songs.
Toddlers Love Rock 'n' Roll.......2006-01-30
I purchased this CD for my 18 month old twins who absolutely just love it! It's great music for family gatherings because the old and young alike can enjoy singing and dancing along to it.

This new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Topol is best as the Papa.......2007-07-15
I have other versions of CDs of "The Fiddler of the Roof" but Topol is the best and this is one of the best CDs with Topol. As far as "The Fiddler On the Roof" goes, that is a thumbs up 5 star anytime story and songs.
Love it.......2007-05-16
I had looked everywhere for this CD. I am so happy to have found the "real" Fiddler on the Roof!
CP as Grandmother Tzeitel.......2007-03-30
At first, I thought this musical was weird but then I grew to like it. It has a sad ending but the thems in the movie are really interesting. Life really is like being a fiddler on the roof. In a musical coming up at my school, I am playign the part of Grandmother Tzeitel in Tevye's dream. I am excited to play the part and I think our musical will go very well!
Never Ending Joy!.......2006-11-22
The music from Fiddler on the Roof is exciting, fun, interesting and funny! This CD is mixed with humor, music from different cultures and a wide mix of different songs. Each song is so different that I can listen to it for hours. I was surprised how enjoyable and pleasent it really is. Although...it is easy to get this music stuck in your head!

Just like being there.......2007-08-01
I loved this. Despite the fact that many of the songs and sounds were from rides that no longer exist, I can still actually imagine being there. I personally would have liked to hear more of the music from the rides themselves rather that music trying to depict the essence of the ride. But all in all very enjoyable.
We love this CD!.......2007-06-28
Being the die hard Disneyland fans that we are, this CD is perfect! My kids could listen to it over and over. Definitetly a must for those of us who want a little bit of Disneyland in our every day lives:)

Depeche Mode's most foreboding album, leaning toward the gothic, is DM at their most bleak, black-armband, and nihilistic--no doubt played over and over by countless self-loathing teens as they dyed their hair black behind locked bedroom doors. The tracks are tastefully minimalist, yet the few sounds that dominate each song have a consuming, even overwhelming feel--like a big, heavy black cloud that descends upon and surrounds listeners until their knees buckle from the weight. Rhythmically, songs like "A Question of Time" are driven with moderately paced 16th notes pounded out on synths filling out the low end. Other tracks follow the path of "Stripped," an all-out lamentfest powered by David Gahan's overproduced baritone. --Beth Bessmer

Roots nihilism and/or the Godfathers of emo.......2007-04-11
I just got the remastered disc with the dvd and extras. This will be a great purchase for the hardcore DM fan. Too many great reviews already on here to go into song by song specifics but I will add (my opinion anyway) that this album made DM. There is just something so beautiful, honest, bleak, emotional, naked, and truthful about this collection of songs. Sure they had made it big by this time with People are People and could have rested on their laurels and made Some Great Reward again and again (paging the Rolling Stones and bands like them...) but they really pushed themselves to new ground here. As Gareth Jones says on the DVD (he is great on the DVD) that this album was such a far cry from Just Can't Get Enough. I look at this album (and really all DM albums) as the alternative to so many things in society... guitar wanker bands, sappy love song bands (don't we have enough), hedonistic hippie love, boring overplayed top 40 music, etc. These guys have had one of the most inexplicable careers in music history. They sell out stadiums with next to no radio play in the US. Anyway thanks DM and thank you Martin Gore (the true anti-rock star) for the great, courageous music.
A Masterpiece, Still One of Their Best.......2006-12-03
Throughout the '80s, the times saw Depeche Mode growing as a band. Alan Wilder's inclusion on "Construction Time Again" turned them from a group to a great group, the next one showing they weren't teeny-bop with somewhat shocking (for the time) tracks like "Master and Servant." This may not had any big hits, but that also doesn't really mean it's ungood or esoteric. It is neither of these. It is perceived as DM's foray into goth which went into the next two albums. This can be heard in tracks like "Fly on the Windscreen -- Final" and "Stripped," a sign of the arena-size ambitions of the group. Martin, the song-writer, sings on four of the album's 12 songs, and most of them have some great emotion in them. "A Question of Lust" is one of the highlights, a brilliant track which shows that DM have a great deal of substance and are more than a fad. I love the musical arrangements; something comes off as aural bliss about tracks like "It Doesn't Matter Two" and "Dressed in Black." While it may be dark, it's not gloom for gloom's sake, and sometimes it can be happy too. For instance, the title track is an admiration of seeing good even in the darkest days, "I can feel your warmth and it feels like home," sounds like a good-day sentiment from "Here Is the House," and more importantly, there's "But Not Tonight." 20 years later, "Black Celebration" should be viewed of as just as good an album. I kind of would like to hear what a re-mastered version would sound like. A fan favorite and rightfully so.
An important moment in the history of alternative music.......2006-08-27
Regarded by critics and fans alike as one of Depeche Mode's best albums, Black Celebration was a turning point in the bands career.
The quartet of Basildon emerged as one of the biggest bands of the era with the release of this album, and there are many reasons for that.
The period of experimentation that began three years before in "Construction Time Again" reached the summit here. Depeche Mode mixed electronica with Goth sounds, though the result was never Goth.
Martin Gore, in a burst of creativity, offered some of the best vocalic and literally dramatic songs of the eighties, exploring topics from longing to desire, sex to politic and even death.
Due to this, Black Celebration is one of the darkest albums of modern times, praised by many but also censored by mainstream critic. Its explicit and sometimes "embarrassing" lyrics relegate it to a more eclectic, cultish audience.
Songs like "A question of Lust" and "Sometimes" are proof of Martin's vocalization at his best. Only few cases in the history of electronic music can be proud of saying that (e.g Alyson Moyet in Yazoo).
In musically terms, Black Celebration was a seminal point in the use of electronic instruments (thanks the gifted musician Alan Wilder). Sampling and the use of most modern keyboards created new and unheard atmospheres, similar in artists like Kraftwerk or Can.
The song Black Celebration might as well be the best example of it, as well as the murky-harmonious "But not tonight".
The influence of the album on the forthcoming musical scene is as big as its success. Bands like Rammstein or Red Hot Chili Peppers have made cover versions of songs from it. All dance electronic scene often mentions songs like "A question of Time" as a definite superb moment in the non-guitars musical movement.
Black Celebration is also the shift of a pop band into a cult major act. Its sound invaded independent and alternative radio stations in the US and Europe during the second half of the Thatcher- Reagan era (and eventually in the entire world) and started a dramatically growth in the population of Depeche Mode fanatics.
It was the perfect prelude for the acclaimed and commercially successful "Music for the Masses".
In all definitions, Black Celebration is one of the most important moments in the history of alternative and electronic music.
My favorite.......2006-08-18
Depeche Mode has always been one of my favorites. I had this tape since high school, but now everything is in CD form; so I replaced it with a CD. Now I get to hear in in the car!
Not so dark as it is romantic/emotive.......2006-08-03
Reviewers have taken at face value that name of the album and the name of some of its tracks perhaps a bit too much to heart. Yes, this is the darkest of the DM albums. But, Pornography it is not. Closer it is not. It's more a romantic album than a dark album. Even Fly on the Windscreen with lyrics like "there are lambs for the slaughter" feels more romantic than the alienation of Joy Division's Closer or the schizophrenia of the Cure's Pornography.

awesome Bobfest! .......2007-06-22
I was living in NYC and working when I heard this concert announced on the radio. Sold out in minutes! Never did get a ticket, much to my regret but this cd and the accompanying video make me feel as if I was there to celebrate the music of Bob Dylan or as Neil Young proclaimed, 'Bobfest!'. Rarely a week goes by when I don't listen to a few tunes from this concert. The collection of artists could make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame quake in it's boots. John Mellencamp kicks things off in high gear with LIKE A ROLLING STONE. My other favorites are Richie Havens, JUST LIKE A WOMAN. Eddie Vedder, MASTERS OF WAR. The Clancy Brothers really kick it in with, WHEN THE SHIP COMES IN and Shawn Colvin kicks a** with YOU AIN'T GOING NOWHERE. The Band WHEN I PAINT MY MASTERPIECE and what a finish with MY BACK PAGES and KNOCKING ON HEAVENS DOOR. My only regret about this cd is someone should have edited Stevie Wonder's ranting before he kicks off BLOWIN IN THE WIND. Political rants don't belong on this cd, it's all about celebrating the songs of one of our greatest artist.
Great yet disappointing.......2007-06-01
This album is really recommended for Dylan's fans, yet I have to say that some of the artists, including Dylan himself, didn't perform like I have expected.
Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert.......2007-06-01
Any Dylan fan would appreciate the scope of his compositions, especially if done by such an array of artists. Even though this concert is from 1993, the music holds up. New approaches of Dylan songs by the artists just go to show how the songs are timeless. Johnny Winters take on Highway 61 smokes and My Back Pages is the cut that initially caught my interest. You cannot go wrong in purchasing this CD.
Couldn't be better!.......2007-05-15
Not much to say, besides the fact that it is what i was looking for: probably one of the best concerts in the last 20 years, some names that have unfortunately disappeared lately but have made the history of modern music. if anyone is interested in live performances and likes bob dylan and all of his friends who play with him here, well don't think twice (got the quotation?) and purchase it
Dylan's 30th Anniversary concert CD.......2007-05-13
Excelent Alblum, A chance to hear other well respected artists versions of some of Dylan's music. We all know Dylan's music, his own unique vocal and lyrical style which make his work, lyrics and music his own, Somewhat surprisingly to me, it confirms that good lyrics and music can be adapted to other artists styles and still remain good, if different in style and arrangements to the original versions. (Does Dylan every deliver any song in the same way twice ?.I think not)
The list of talent performering at this concert also shows the respect in which Dylan is held by his peers, world class talented artists queued for a chance to perform live Dylans material. Those who really know, It really works..

Donna de Lory has several solo albums out, but she's still best known as a back-up singer for Madonna, fleshing out choruses since the mid 1980s. There's more than a little bit of Madonna in De Lory's voice, at once fragile and vulnerable, yet still powerful, with a gospel-like yearning. On her own, De Lory has crafted artful pop on albums like Bliss and In the Glow, but she also tends toward the mystical and began incorporating Sanskrit mantras or Kirtans into her songs, a tact culminated on The Lover & the Beloved, a full-fledged Mantra journey. De Lory draws from the golden oldies of mantras, including "Hare Krishna," but revs them up with electronica beats, verse-chorus arrangements, multi-tracked vocals, and electronic textures sprinkled in with the sitars and tablas. Cameron Stone weaves his processed cello through De Lory's melodies and harmonium in serpentine rivulets, tying together the tablas of Girish Gambhira and the answering chants of Kirtan singer, Dave Stringer. Endowed with the materiel girl's sense of pop form and irresistible hooks, De Lory posits a confluence between pop and spiritual music, in which a repeated chorus has the same mantric effect as a chant. Her chants could be hymns to Krishna or a plea to a lover, but they are equally ecstatic and powerful. --John Diliberto
Album Description
These Sanskrit mantras bubble with a groove and atmosphere that takes tradition to heaven and back. Donna's voice resonates with ether and earth, beauty that asks you to join in, become one with the sound of deep celebration.
Customer Reviews:
WOW.......2007-06-26
This is a wonderful CD of chants that are both up to date and ancient at the same time. It is calming to the soul to listen to, and later in the day you will find youself chanting the words.....
Soothing. Peaceful. .......2006-09-12
I love all these songs! Soothing and tranquil.
They last a long time which is perfect for use as background music while working or while chatting with friends.
It makes it easier to relax to the melody, let your cares float away as the music wraps around you.
It's one of my favorites, I'm so glad I took a chance and got this one:)
Amazing Soulful Yoga Music.......2006-03-18
Donna De Lory has a beautiful, soulful voice and her music is perfect to practice yoga to or to unwind and get into that zenlike spirit. I ordered the rest of her CDS.
brilliant masterpiece.......2005-09-12
This album is a brilliant masterpiece. Extremely uncommon music, farly outrunning the present. A listener is experiencing a deep feeling of being, also as each piece here, so long, is being changed several times in movement and style. At this web page the short mp3 shows are only presented in one such a style and movement, more torrential but less oriental. The most varied piece is the last seventh: Govinda Jaya Jaya (Mac Quayle Mix). And what's more, the box for the CD is not the traditional plastic, but it is made quite else and I do not mean to disclose, how. For me it was an eye-opener and I wish you the same excitment. It is no lesser masterpiece than the music itself. So I recommend this album to everybody and thank the authors very much for this great experience. You're real masters.
Just love it!.......2005-04-11
A lovely album. Donna brings a sense of creativity, melody and bkathi (devotion) to each of the songs. It starts with a catchy Ganapathi OM, continuing with the same catchiness with Om Namah Shivaya. He Ma Durga brings out the delicacy of her voice. I loved Govinda Jaya Jaya, which is ideal for a group chant that brings a lot of energy into the singing.
I found all the songs to be melodious. The lyrics are simple for anyone to remember easily. The tune is catchy and lingers on after listening. There is a nice blend of western and Indian instruments providing soothing background music. As in many Indian songs/chants, you will find repetition within each song, which is a nice thing. You probably will not notice it as it encourages you to remember the tune/song much easily.
I use this album in my Yoga classes regularly and come away humming for a long time. Just love it!
