Prairie Lullaby is a wonderful collection of relaxing but decidedly not soporific instrumental versions of old familiar songs.
Product Description
All the bedtime hits lovingly played on guitar, harmonica, fiddle and dobro. Lovely all-instrumental versions of American standards which spring from the great body of American folk tradition, and possess a certain enchanting quality which makes them great lullabies.

If you were stuck on an urban island and could play only one kids' record that wouldn't drive you and the children nuts with repeated plays, this would have to be it. Connie Kaldor, the great Canadian chanteuse, and the lesser known Carmen Campagne, have created one of the most exquisitely lovely records in any genre. Kaldor's "I Have You" speaks to so many soulful truths about a mother's love for a child in the face of all the world's riches and distractions that it ought to be required listening for all expecting--and current--parents. Kaldor and Campagne's "Dream Baby," adapted to Debussy's "Clair de Lune," is as grandly inspired as the rest of the record is simply beautiful, and the arrangements are stunning. Half the disc is sung in French, which--aside from sounding at times like the pop symphony of the last half of Abbey Road--adds a poetic dimension to the moving harmonies, rich colors, and joyful highs found throughout the 13 tracks. A must-have (plus you and the little ones might even learn a little French by the 130th spin). --Martin Keller

Absolutely LOVE this CD.......2006-12-28
I checked this out at the library for my fussy baby (#2) and this CD is my most favorite. After listening to it for the first time I bought it and have not regretted it for one minute. My favorite song is "I Have You"--it speaks volumes. This entire CD is an utter work of art and you will not regret rocking your precious ones to sleep with it.
lullaby berceuse.......2000-04-15
Like so many others, I am ordering the CD because the tapes get worn from contstant play. I just had my third child, and my first two always went to sleep with this tape, no matter how fussy. I am so glad to have found it again. Our local stores had no idea what "French Lullaby" tape I was talking about. Now my new one can enjoy these lovely lullaby songs. It is also great as a gift to others.
Could live without her, but wouldn't want to........2000-03-02
Sell the ranch if you must, but get this cd, and all of the others by Connie Kaldor. "Small Cafe" is available in the U.S.. From Canada, you can get "Gentle of Heart", "Out of the Blue", "Wood River", "Moonlight Grocery", "Love is a Truck". She is in a league of her own.
thank god it's on CD because we've worn out two cassettes.......2000-02-24
This is my son's (now 6 years old) all-time favorite lullaby music and mine too. He will be so happy I've found it again. (It is no longer available where I purchased the first two tapes.) Beautiful meaningful songs to hum or sing along with, even if your voice is poor, your baby won't mind. I bought the first copy sound unheard when he was an infant and was pleasantly surprised. He was not pleased when the first tape broke, nor the second for that matter, and has repeatedly asked me to buy another. French and English combinations make repeated listening less tiresome to the adult.
A lullaby collection that YOU will love too.........1999-06-17
Soothing at any time when you or baby needs to relax. The songs are varied and complex enough to satisfy music lovers, whether they be folkies or classical music lovers. The only thing I didn't like is the sound "wah-wah" of a baby at the beginning of the first song! Who needs it ?! But the rest is pure enjoyment. Baby goes to sleep by the second or third song and I often listen to many more of the songs before tiptoeing out of the room...It is my favorite, with Linda Ronstadt's lullaby CD coming in second place.

With so many hipster artists cranking out kids' music, finding a disc of unflashy tunes for a little one to nap by can be like shopping for Keds at a custom sneaker boutique. That's not to suggest that this sweetly sung collection of French and English lullabies is plain vanilla, only that it's a likably retro exercise in dispensing the kind of music that has effectively carted kids off to the sandman for centuries. Connie Kaldor and Carmen Campagne, the performers of these 13 mostly original but classic-sounding tracks, carry their tunes in maternal voices that could smooth the most rumpled of nerves, be they in a colicky infant or a cranky grandparent. And the landscapes they describe in service of their task seem plucked from a holistic practitioner's remedy book: "Close your eyes and dream/There are clouds to cuddle/Moonbeams to climb/Stardust to catch you," goes the gentle first verse to "Dream Baby L'enfant des Reves." Kaldor and Campagne's Canadian background accounts for the bilingual twist, but it's not distracting; the French, in fact, compounds the prairie night's poufy pastel sweetness. --Tammy La Gorce
Product Description
This classic bilingual lullaby album takes on a new life with an exquisite cover illustration by artist Brian Deines that capture the prairies at dusk. The original CD, released in 1990 (Parents Choice Gold Award / American Library Association Notable Children's Recording) is a straightforward collection of dream songs most original, some traditional, half in English, half in French, some solos, a few duets, often with simple, breathy arrangements and voices that complement each other beautifully.
Connie Kaldor is considered one of Canada's most significant contemporary folk performers (Billboard Magazine). She has released a dozen albums and performed in major venues across the continent. And she has won 3 Juno awards (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) for her children s recordings! Carmen Campagne is an extremely popular children s performer in the French-speaking world with cumulative sales well over 1 million units.
