And not just on the phenomenally appealing first single. Throughout Because of You, the sophomore disc by the songwriter responsible for such monster hits as Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" and Rihanna's "Unfaithful," a flutter-voiced fluidity--the kind seldom heard since Michael Jackson's Off the Wall days--reigns. Jay-Z makes room to let it rip on "Crazy," and Jennifer Hudson wraps herself around it with restraint on "Leaving Tonight," a lovers' quarrel that could hold its own against anything Marilyn McCoo & Billy David Jr. cared to toss off in their heyday. If it's MJ who's lingered in Ne-Yo's ear longest, Prince hasn't gone silent, either: echoes poke up on the far-out "Sex with My Ex." Elsewhere, shades of contemporaries such as Nelly and Diddy show through. Overall, though, Ne-Yo's flammable hooks, flirty vibe, and flawless vocals reveal an R&B genius in the making. I'm just saying you should check out what other reviews have been written from a reviewer before you let it pursued you for or against a release because it may influence how much credit you give their review.
This sophomore release by Neo shows maturity, growth and solidifies his presence in the R & B genre. Because of You, Crazy minus J-Z intro., Do You, Leaving Tonight, Aint Thinking About You, Make it Work, Tell Me, are most noteable. Which is quite a number of tracks, practically the whole CD. Each track flows into the next, you can really just press play and relax, let the music work it's magic.
BET Awards Show said it "Best R&B Male" enough said.

if "say it" were the ONLY song on the album, i still would've gotten my money's worth. i also love "do you", "because of you", and "can we chill". all in all i like about the same amount of songs on this album as i did on the other one.

Great Sophomore Album!.......2007-07-07

I am always wary of sophomore efforts from singers, but I really loved Ne-Yo's first CD, and I love the fact that he's a songwriter -- his songs usually make sense -- so I went ahead and picked it up even though I had only heard snippets of "Because of You" (the title track) and no other song. I'm glad I did. I really love this CD from start to finish -- the tracks are smooth and you can definitely see the influence from different artists on the CD. It's a "chill on a Saturday afternoon" CD (and that's exactly what I am doing right now), and I like it better than his first CD.

My favorite songs on the album: "Crazy" (featuring Jay-Z, it's well written and a really smooth entry on the CD); "Can We Chill" (smooth dance track about being in a club, which I usually hate, but this one is pretty well written as well and I love the beat and melody), "Addicted" (the premise is funny, and if you can laugh good-naturedly at Ne-Yo's grandstanding in the CD -- it's a great song), "Leaving Tonight" (I love Jennifer Hudson, she sounds like a goddess on this CD, American Idol shouldn't have cut her and I hope she comes out with a CD ASAP!) and "Sex With My Ex" (Prince fans should flock to this one, it sounds like something The Artist would've sung.)

Afterglow by Sarah McLachlan is surprisely moving and wonderfully produced. I am not normally a McLachlan super-fan but some of her songs before this album are quite engaging. I decided to give this album a chance, standout tracks include: Time, Perfect Girl, Dirty Little Secret, Stupid, and Answer. Sarah's voice has improved and her lyrics are at its strongest. I could listen to the track, Time all day long, it sucks you in after the first 20 seconds, amazing! So whether you hate or love her, Afterglow will have you bathed in it for awhile. Enjoy!

I know that this review won't be very helpful, all I can say is that I love this album. Been listening to it for a couple of years now, and it's a fave when I'm in a mood to be mellow. Back in 1990, three of the world's most celebrated tenors--namely, José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti--combined forces to create the Three Tenors, now celebrated on a best-of CD. They gave their first concert in Rome. The event was recorded and went on to become one of the best-selling classical titles of all time.

This latest release brings together tracks from that night in Rome (including "Nessun dorma" and a competitive rendition of "O sole mio") with music performed in a 1994 concert in Los Angeles and at the 1998 event in Paris where the Three Tenors sang to an audience of thousands with the Eiffel Tower as their backdrop.

The 22 tracks making up The Best of the Three Tenors range from operatic standards, such as the joyful "Brindisi" from La Traviata, to popular songs like "Singin' in the Rain" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" (from Carousel). There are no solos on this disc; each piece is performed by all three singers. This is the first album I have acquired of the Three Tenors, and it was wonderful. The selections were easy to listen to and familiar to me. None of the heavy operatic selections. It is the best. I will buy more albums of them.

This is a good recording. If you don't like the 3 tenors, then look else where. It's that simple. These are recordings from concerts where they WERE supposed to show off. This ain't opera. If you want opera, go out and attend one.

The best from the three greatest..........2005-08-11

The first thing we must establish here is that this is not meant to be opera. This is three exceptionally talented tenors enjoying themselves and giving tremendous joy to those listening by singing mostly popular "evergreens" and also some operatic arias. The beauty in music lies in the diversity, in my opinion. One can better appreciate one type of music when one knows about the others. And why should we limit ourselves to listen to just one genre in music. It would be the same as having steak for dinner every day for the rest of your life, wouldn't it? So why should we limit three wonderful tenors to only sing operatic arias for the rest of their lives? If so we wouldn't have "Maria", "You'll never walk alone", "Singing in the rain" or any of the evergreens on this recording and that would be a shame.

There are no solos on the cd. I think I've read somewhere that they felt there had been enough "three tenors cd's" and if they were to release yet another one it would be one containing what the audience demands, the three of them joining forces and performing together in the songs.
The result, in my opinion is highly recommendable. The three voices blend perfectly together. I have to admit that I have a personal favourite among the tenors and that I would never buy an entire recording featuring only one of the two others, but I recognize their talents and -as stupid as it may sound- since they are performing together I can also appreciate the other two. (I like them too, but in smaller doses....)Some people have commented on their problems with mastering the english language. If anything, I think it just adds to their charm. By the way, who is perfect??

The songs on this cd is a mixture of beautiful songs, heartwrenching songs, toe-tapping songs and powerful songs. It's wonderful to just listen to the beauty in the three voices. It's fun hearing Pavarotti pushing his "high-note-button" in "O sole mio" and Carreras and Domingo copying his stunt. I have no idea what they're singing about in "Manha de Carnaval", but boy does it sound romantic...... And "Dicitencello vuie" brings tears to my eyes (even if I'm still left in the dark when it comes to understanding the meaning of the words...) In "Because" Carreras takes my breath away when singing "because God made thee mine, I'll cherish thee...through light and darkness, through all time to be, and pray his love may make our love divine...." (What woman wouldn't like to hear those words..??!?) Their rendition of "You'll never walk alone" should satisfy some of the soccer-fans since it's the anthem of a European football-club and "Nessun Dorma" will probably satisfy the rest of the soccer-fans, being the antheme of the 1998 world soccer championship. In short, there should be something for every taste on this cd.

It's a very "versatile" cd. You can play it almost everywhere. You can sing along to it in the car, you can dance around the house to it while doing your chores, you can put your feet up and unwind after a hectic week. Or you can write an Amazon review while listening to it.... (Feel free to add suggestions of your own here.....)

A few years ago I was lucky enough to actually see a Three Tenors concert. The experience was amazing. Later I bought this CD. I was so happy when I listened to it because the CD captures the mood of being present at the concert. I like the variety and every time I play it, I am taken back to my personal experience at the concert. Hearing the audiences on the CD really gets you excited about hearing this amazing trio.

I got this CD as a gift and it changed my life! I was always a rocker and liked classical music, but never was much into this genre of music. This album changed all of that. Since getting the three tenors I've found a whole new world out there. Thank you guys!

Introducing the Greatest Voice of All Time.......2007-03-13

A new generation of music lovers deserves to know, understand and appreciate the greatness of Mario Lanza. Five decades after his passing, millions of lovers of "grand voices" still are held in awe by the power, passion and beauty of his voice.

This selection of recordings has a number of fine selections that give a small "flavor" of his fantastic talent and skills. It is a good beginning for someone who wants to know "The American Caruso."

The Greatest Tenor of the 20th Century........2007-01-21

In a professional career that lasted just a bit over ten years Mario Lanza created more memorable recordings, broadcasts, concert perfomances and feature films than any other major vocalist in the classical and pop-jazz music genre. He was a man blessed with arguably the finest tenor voice in recorded music. Fans of Caruso, Pavarotti, Jan Peerce, Placido Domingo or Careras may argue that their tenor interpreted a particular aria better than anyone else but few if any can argue against the sheer beauty, power and emotion of Mario Lanza. He achieved worldwide success too fast and his penchant for the good life: wine, women and good food got the best of him in the end. It is so sad, when one contemplates Lanza's short but brilliant career and what might have been, that he was gone at age 38, an age when some tenors are just beginning to hit their stride. This album is a fine overview of some of his most memorable heavy classics as well as lighter operetta standards and showcases his voice so well. Nearly fifty years have transpired since his untimely death in 1959 and there is yet to appear on the scene a tenor with the power, charisma or sheer beauty of Lanza's voice. I highly recommend this album to the Lanza novice or those just starting their Opera CD collections.

Lanza of the joyous voice!.......2005-07-14

This album has some really splendid songs, and yes, it's a good introduction to the King of the high last notes. I grew up with one of Lanza's albums and more or less learned to sing by singing along with his wonderful warm voice. What good energy he had... and too bad he died so young (sigh). It certainly lifts my spirits to listen to his music again and I hope anyone reading this will take a chance and get to know him too.

Not bad as an introduction to Lanza.......2001-11-13

I recommend this collection as a good starting point for those interested in this extraordinary tenor. It's not a complete representation of the man by any stretch of the imagination, but it includes a handful of unforgettable recordings that will make newcomers to Lanza sit up in astonishment.

Highlights include the immortal Serenade & Golden Days from The Student Prince, Beloved (from the film version of the Student Prince, and arguably Lanza's best English-language love song), Because You're Mine, If I Loved You, and the stirring Addio Alla Madre from Cavalleria Rusticana. If love songs seem a little over-represented at the expense of arias and (notably) Italian & Neapolitan Songs, then blame BMG for their habitual neglect of Lanza's more serious side. In any event, this is essentially a one-CD version of the three-CD set, The Mario Lanza Collection. All of the renditions are the same as on the earlier CD, as are the sound sources. With the exception of The Student Prince Serenade, most of the selections here have never sounded better.

Be aware, however, that several of the arias are in fact retakes of more familiar versions. Vesti La Giubba, for instance, is an alternate take from Lanza's May 1950 session, and although the tenor is in great voice, the orchestra lets him down on the climactic phrase by moving on before he has finished his High A on the word "infranto". The Flower Song is even more unrestrained than the familiar take - great fun, but not the kind of recording you'd want newcomers to Lanza to hear! (Lanza never quite "nailed" this aria, but his heart was in the right place.) La Donna E Mobile is the familiar 1950 version in the first half, but is replaced by an inferior retake in the second half, followed by an edited-in High B ending (on "pensier") from the original recording!

The only truly bad recording is the inexplicably popular With A Song In My Heart. Lanza is unfocused, and strains his way throughout the piece. Yours Is My Heart Alone is somewhat better, but is easily surpassed by the tenor's 1956 recording with the conductor Henri Rene (and currently unavailable on CD).

It's not opera; it's not a pop concert; it's not Broadway. It's all of these and none of them. Once you accept the fact that this sequel to the original blockbuster concert recording is less about music and more about entertainment and the power of musical personalities, you can appreciate what you're hearing as an event--phenomenal and bizarre, momentous and frivolous. This is an occasion to celebrate the voices and egos of three huge superstars, and to have fun listening as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras interact, bouncing lines off each other and playing to the overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience. Much of the fun and flavor of the concert is dependent on seeing the action, though, and without the visuals you notice flaws in the singing much more. Domingo comes off as the more solid performer, and his voice is in far better shape than the other two. But if you crave big, high, and loud--and you don't take your opera too seriously--you'll love this disc. --David Vernier

Placido Domingo en Amor vida de mi vida, logra llevar el concierto a su punto mas alto en ese momento, punto superado unicamente por Pavarotti en Nessum Dorma. Pavarotti como siempre sublime como dije en Nessum Dorma, Ave maria y en los popurris. La calidad del DVD es genial, con full screen y sonido digital. Otro punto buenisimo es la aparicion de Frank Sinatra en la cancion My way y de otras luminarias del cine y la política. Espero que este comentario sirva de ayuda para aquellos que quieran este DVD.

The Three Tenors has/have become a cottage industry, churning out one CD after another for every imaginable event and in every combination. This does not mean that the results are necessarily inferior but it does imply a commercial, layman's approach. And maybe this is better - spreading the joys of fine music to the masses. After all, where besides figure skating and cartoons do most people have a chance to even hear opera?

This event, like the first one in Rome, has a magnificent setting but, like Rome, the show was marketed mainly to the American audience. They still include the dreadful "Maria" with the hilarious pronunciation and even added "With a Song In My Heart" (or, as Carreras is wont to sing, "Weeth a Soeeng een My Haht"). Though some may deride the choice of encores, they were almost perfect. The Three Tenors, despite their prior celebrity, are creations of our culture of entertainment in ways that Caruso could only dream about.

Synopsis: Carreras stands out, Domingo substitutes volume for quality and Pavarotti soars when he doesn't have to.

Not what I thought it was going to be. I like only about 4 of the 20+ tracks on this CD. I shoudl have just bought the DVD instead and actually watched them perform. Much, much more entertaining.

Last Encore of songs missing off C.D........2002-02-06

The Three Tenors are my absolute favourite singers. The 1994 Concert was undoubtedly their best in my view. I taped this live concert from the television, and have played and played and played it!! I also taped it on a cassette, however, when I bought the C.D. I was really disappointed that they did not include the last set of encore songs, which included O Sole a Mio (don't know if I've spelt that correctly), where Placido and Jose try and outdo Luciano!! It received such a fantastic reception from the crowd, (one of the many standing ovations), and really showed how much the Three Tenors seemed to enjoy performing the concert. How come this was not included? I don't know if it was on the Video because I play my own.

I Love You Because is sort of a Company for the 21st century, a romantic comedy examining the dating scene in New York City. Opening off-Broadway at the Village Theater in February 2006, I Love You Because originated as Ryan Cunningham and Joshua Salzman's thesis project at NYU's graduate musical theatre writing program. It's obvious their talent bears watching. Salzman's pop-jazz score is melodic, bright, and fresh sounding, and Cunningham's lyrics (he also wrote the book) are witty and natural. Colin Hanlon and David A. Austin play brothers Austin and Jeff who fall into relationships with best friends Marcy (Farah Alvin) and Diana (Stephanie D'Abruzzo), navigating through tricky issues such as their exes, rebound time, and being "just friends with benefits." What a surprise! This cast album is fresh, exciting, and simply wonderful. Every song is fun and touching in its own way, though the authors tend to end a lot of their songs in the same style. But that's being picky. Most of the time I don't even notice. Very cute!

A fresh new musical with an original score, now on my playlist for good. This 2006 off-broadway show incorporates humour with some strong messages about love, you get the humourous songs (We're just friends) and you get the love ballads (maybe we just made love) really a show id recommend to anyone. Beautiful Music- Not so hot performances!.......2007-03-09

I bought this recently and have fallen in love (no pun intended) with this score. Some songs like "maybe we just made love" and "Alone" are stunners. The only complaint is the performances- they aren't that great. Sometimes the tone is constant (and not in a good way) and the ends of phrases aren't completely developed. But the Musical is great- well worth a listen.

I saw this show last year and instantly fell in love with it. Its initmate setting, its loveable characters and hummable music really resonated with me. I was surprised that more of a buzz wasn't generated around this musical. When I saw the soundtrack was available, I immediately got it! What a wonderful show!

I saw this show in April and feel instantly in love with the music. It's a great score and the music is catchy and heartfelt. It's been a while since a really good (off)broadway sountrack has come out.

This has to be one of the best CD's that I have heard in a while....I pop it in when I am cleaning the house and listen to it in the car on the expressway. What a variety!!! ....because of Ne-Yo, I have been busted singing in the car, shower, and at the office. It is about time an artist releases a cd with hit after hit after hit. You can put it in and play it straight through. THANKS, NE-YO....see you at Six Flags on Thursday!

I was expecting the entire CD, instead, I got 2 songs. I wanted to listen to one particular song only and I didn't get that one. I was so disappointed that, I had every intention of sending it back for a refund. Ne-yo's cd is not what I would buy and to only get 2 songs is a slap in the face. A waste of my good money. I won't do this again.

None of the chirpy, intricate, eclectic tracks on I Care Because You Do sound dated, certainly not in any heinous way. Richard James's work stands outside any genre cages and continues to satisfy dedicated listeners. This is at least partially due to James's twisted, British-bad-boy sense of humor: the title of the disc alone is something of an ironic display. I Care Because You Do is a sound introduction to James's peculiar, personal work, which ranges from symphonic to spartan to relaxing to unnerving, though it generally manages to be all those at once. The disc is cleverly constructed and juicily modern, and it's easy to see why critics, struggling to understand James's emergent "ambient techno," early on compared him to minimalist composers such as Philip Glass and Steve Reich. James was clearly influenced by these pioneers, but his music is more about stretching the limits of what one perceives to be music, of sound itself. --Mike McGonigal

This may not be Aphex Twin's best album, but it is probably his most complete, incorporating virtually every facet of Richard D. James' musical personality. This is guaranteed to be some of the most unique, haunting and intriguing work you will ever hear.

It begins with Acrid Avid Jam Shred, probably the most straightforward piece on the album, beginning with halting percussion and slowly building into a strangely majestic yet playful jam, only to fall back onto the driving percussion and U-turn in a completely different direction. Then the listener is dropped into the squelchy, rubbery bass of The Waxen Pith, which sounds like the inside of a honeycomb or a plant's stem. It's a tad tedious, but certainly has an interesting blend of instruments. Wax The Nip feels like a precursor to some of Aphex's harder IDM to come, with rushing drums underscoring childlike wonderment embodied in joyous, choral synths. It sounds like skydiving over waterfalls, then landing on your feet and running through green fields.

Icct Hedral (Edit) is a journey into the heart of an ancient temple housing some item of unspeakable evil, while all the while something is clawing further and further into your brain. Headphones are a must. Ventolin is near impossible to listen to, it's so painful - you get the feeling that Aphex is having a bit of a larf at our expense, since the song behind the shrill, obnoxious high frequencies is really cool. Come on you Slags! is no balm on the ears either, with chaotic screechy synths blaring over an obnoxious valley girl conversation which fades in and out of coherence. Yet no matter how difficult these three are to listen to, their genius is undeniable.

Start As You Mean To Go On is one of the more calming tracks on the album, despite the persistent, pounding, constantly morphing beat. It sounds like high-speed nostalgia. Wet Tip Hen Ax is pure weirdness, and reminds me simultaneously of eagles soaring over cliffs and alien invasions. Mookid is one of the most soothing Aphex songs, and reminds me of the quieter moments of childhood, with that signature hint of weirdness RDJ always brings to the table. Alberto Balsalm is a walk down the block, accented by a sound like someone rattling a stick against the iron bars of a fence. Ambient synths and calm melodies begin to fill the atmosphere. Then the track abruptly drops down a well to land in a basement full of clanging percussion, only to climb back out and reemerge in daylight.

Cow Cud is a Twin begins with a very distracting sample of a door slamming and background yelling which is calculated to throw the listener off guard. The rest of the track is a slow-paced jam with a hooky bassline and intriguing sound effects. Finally, there's Next Heap With, a fully-orchestral piece that combines the feelings you could get from several tracks on the album, including but not limited to Icct Hedral, Wet Tip Hen Ax and Acrid Avid Jam Shred. A fitting summation of the musical ideas RDJ has been exploring throughout.

It says a lot that the only way to communicate my feelings about this album is to explore it track by track. Richard D. James is truly special, in that he makes music that is indescribable, yet completely emotionally resonant. An artist you must hear before you die.

This was one of my first albums. I like this one a lot, but most of the album is pretty repetitive, but not as much as Surfing on Sine Waves or Chosen Lords. My favorite part is the last 4 songs on the album and "Start as you mean to go on"

Unclassifiable.... brilliant music........2005-06-21

In the world of Richard D. James, anything goes. If you want to move into that old bank vault that's up for sale, feel free. If you want to buy an old military tank and drive it around the country side, no problem. If you want to make an album of entire ambient melodies with no beats that's over two hours long, go right ahead. And if you want to blend elecronica, hip-hop, classical, and industrial music into one revolutionary album, while taking breaks to add samples of scissors clipping and tapping on pots and pans, please do so. Such is what we've been given with the album ICBYD.

ICBYD, in my opinion, is the absolute pinnacle of the Aphex Twin sound, rivaled only by SAWII and parts of Druqks. All the tradmark elements of RDJ's music are present (at least the most crucial elements, that is), along with superb arrangements, fantastic classical instrumentations and plenty of dark, brooding undertones. Other than the tracks Ventolin and COYS, the album is trully flawless, and at times mesmerising. Mentally and emotionally stimulating, the album succeeds where SAWII failed in the way that it never gets sluggish and boring (not to take anything away from SAWII, which is itself very great). From start to finish, the songs plung you into a sonic hypnosis of sorts, sending you from one end of the musical Aphex ocean to the next as you struggle to stay afloat on the waves. Soothing, exiting, and even scary at times, the sound never fails. This is THE sound of futuristic classical compositions, or at least I hope so. Initially quite challenging, I admit, the album certainly isn't for everyone, especially hardcore elecronica/drill fans. However, if you do feel up to the challenge, are looking for an album of music unlike anything else out there, and appreciate an artist with the ability to fuse old and new technologies into a trully mentally stimulating experience, then ICBYD is the album for you.

wierd ambiance lends culture to otherwise soundless moments.......2005-03-07

You cannot dance to this album, it's structure is not one that is easily found. I would call it ambiance music with an erratic beat that is impossible to follow. I would call it calming chaos. I would call it a nice change from some of the mass marketed bilge that is being produced these days. I recomend buying it and putting it on for a nice backround ambiance that is reminiscent of machinery, space, and the future.

Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years.......2007-03-13

Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease.

I recommend this for those who already know Lanza to some extent but want to go into more depth and understand his marvelous skills.

A Must Have .......2006-12-12

I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Mario Lanza had. This collection contains opera and pop selections that exhibit the power yet sweetness of his voice. Fortunately, we have his CD's and videos so we can remember and listen to his gorgeous, vibrant voice and personality. I highly recommend this collection along with his wonderful movies, especially The Great Caruso.

WONDERFUL!!!!!.......2005-10-19

The Mario Lanza Collection is a three CD set and it has 61 songs and they all sound great. The mastering on this set is excellent and the song choice is very very good. It would have been perfect if they added a forth CD with more Arias, Italian songs and Sacred Arias. BUT still this set is a great introduction to Lanza. Lanza's voice was powerful and beautiful; if you are a fan of great singing, you will love Lanza. Highlights on this CD set are; Be my Love, Because your Mine, Serenade, With a Song in My Heart, Temptation, The Lord's Prayer, Ciribirbin, O Solo Mio, Ariverducci Roma, and on and on. They are many many great songs on this set, and I highly recommend it.
