'It doesn't break my heart to see you cry......' .......2004-10-04

From the first riff of the euphoric 'I can't pretend' to last shout's of " I wish it could be 1965 again' this undoubtably is one of the best slabs of vinyl ever to grace your turntable or CD player (if your priveledged enough).
This is 'the' quintessential garage/punk/surf album ever recorded. No clunkers at all (mabye the drug addict paean - "codeine") other that that, all these tunes rock with reckless abandon and sheer delight.
Standout tracks include 'Don't let go, Violent Times and California Lament (how prophetic!)

Hard to beleive their from England, huh? Sound like SoCal fromt he late 70's.
Anyway, all their releases are essential, they have three proper albums and a comeback one from the early 90's.
This is by far their best.
This is a top five album of all time.
Be glad you discovered it.

If you love 60s Garage and Surf Music - get this CD!.......2003-03-24

What can I say except that the Barracudas were easily the best 60s garage and surf band ever to come from the UK (although they existed and recorded years later)! Their signature song 'I Wish That It Could be 1965 Again' says it all really. During that celebratory tune, they namecheck many of the great 60s garage and lollipop songs that inspired them to pick up instruments and tread the boards. This CD was recorded early on in the band's career and before Chris Wilson joined them from the fabulously wonderful Flamin' Groovies. Every song is a great tune sung with attitude, immediacy and great hooks. Oh and listen for the great track about the guy who catches a huge wave and bites it big time (His Last Summer). Classic!

Ignored then, forgotten now, the Barracudas recorded some of the greatest pop songs of any era. "I Can't Pretend," "Grammar of Misery" and "Dealing with Today," among others included on this aptly-named compilation, shone with an earnest intensity when originally released, and their brilliance hasn't dimmed in the intervening years.

This disc is totally cool. You will listen to it over and over if you get it. It's okay if you don't, though. You'll just need to get used to it. "Blight Blues" is by far the best track.

Garage, Power Pop and Surf, mix in the sound of the Flamin' Groovies with the Beach Boys and you can see how they were ignored in 1980.
