GRAMMY winning Paul McCartney and WINGS guitarist Laurence Juber plays his own solo acoustic guitar arrangements of some of the best loved melodies of all time. Jubers arrangements of these songs are based on duplicating the original feel of the songs and run the gambit from breathtaking beauty (Strawberry Fields... to guitar heroics of "I Saw Her Standing there" in which Juber sounds like 3 players all at once ..matching McCartneys bass lines with Harrisons original solos!

YES!!!.......2007-03-08
Lovely guitar pieces by the Great Laurence Juber. I listen to this over and over. It's amazing that people can play like this. If you love fingerstyle and jazz, you'll love this. (I adore people who play like this: Michael Hedges, Leo Kottke, and other fingerstylists.) I want more!!!
Superb guitar style.......2006-04-19
I saw Laurence Juber at the recent Fest For Beatles Fans in Secaucus, NJ, and was completely blown away by his playing ability. As he was mentioning the various CDs and DVDs and Grammy awards he has, I told my son "I'm buying all those CDs and DVDs tomorrow". Well I didn't buy them all but I made sure I got this one, and I am here to say that it is an excellent example of his great creativity and guitar-playing skill. I scored a double-header on this as I got a great instrumental guitar CD and a great Beatle CD. If you even just LIKE Beatle music, if you even just LIKE acoustic guitar, this CD will have you smiling and humming in no time. A great CD by a great guitarist. You just can't go wrong with this CD.
LJ Plays the Beatles.......2005-10-11
Loved it. Was buying my first home when the beatles were big and could not afford to purchase records. Laurence Juber is very good and I plan to purchase more of his music.
Juber plays top quality acustic guitar........2005-08-06
This album deserves the best rating! Juber's music is both authentic and creative. Juber plays top quality acustic guitar.
Excellent and then some. .......2004-11-17
As many of us are, I am a long time and never ending admirer of the Beatles and all they encompassed. Over the years I've taken interest in various tributes, variations etc. of their music and usually am disappointed. Somehow I missed this one and stumbled onto it recently. Halfway through the second track I knew I found one of those great albums that will always stay above the surface. There's too much to go into here...all I can say is I can't imagine anyone past the entry level Beatles fan not enjoying this. Juber has pulled off a great and rare thing here, making tribute to the music we all know and love like a lifelong, irreplaceable best friend, while displaying his inventive arrangement skills and breathtaking talent as a guitarist. There's some twists and turns and depth to challenge us but he's not out to lose us and forget what brought us all here in the first place. Beyond that, or I guess in addition, it's simply an acoustic guitar daydream, perfectly produced. Impressive stuff to put it mildly. I just wish I'd found it a few years earlier...

Album Description
Two time GRAMMY winning instrumental acoustic Guitarist Laurence Juber's "I've Got The World On Six Strings" is a salute to one of the greatest composers of the last century: Harold Arlen. Juber's GRAMMY winning arrangement of "The Pink Panther Theme" from "Henry Mancini: Pink Guitar" and his award winning "LJ Plays The Beatles" have firmly established him as not only a great player but a great arranger of classic songs and this recording takes that one step further.
Customer Reviews:
Great Guitar Work on a Great Collection of Classic Tunes.......2007-05-10
While his choice of tunes may have surprised his fans, Juber really delivers the goods. As with earlier releases by Linda Ronstadt and Rod Stewart, this CD will introduce a whole new audience to these classic melodies.
For another look at this material on solo guitar, see Acoustic Standards Volume 1 and Acoustic Standards Volume 2 by Rick Kuncicky, an amazing fingerstyle/classical guitarist with a wide range of influences from Chet Atkins & Charlie Byrd to Earl Klugh & Guy Van Duser, but with a fresh style that's all his own.
Very nice but far from his best.......2007-01-10
Laurence Juber is truly a world-class fingerstyle guitarist.
This effort is further evidence of LJ's talent, class, and work ethic.
Each of these pieces was written by "Great American Songbook" tunesmith Harold Arlen. Check out these titles! I especially enjoyed the arrangement of "Stormy Weather." NPR uses Laurence's recordings now and then; maybe they can opt for this one when they're reporting a down market!
He keeps topping himself! .......2007-01-08
As perhaps the current generations top fingerstyle player/composer...Laurence jubers arrangements of Beatles classics at the start of the decade "LJ Plays The Beatles" took us fans of instrumental acoustic guitar by storm! A few years later LJ as he's known answered Sir McCartney's request to turn his arranging skills loose on "One Wing"...and found a depth in some tunes many of us had written off as pop fluff.
On the heels of his GRAMMY winning arrangement of "the Pink Panther Theme" by Henry Mancini....Juber opened up one of the greatest songbooks of the century for "I've Got The World On Six Strings"...which features is solo guitar arrangements of some of the most beloved Harold Arlen songs!
Its hard to pick a favorite..the opening track "I've Got The World On a String" bounces along quite nicely and the following "Get Happy" is down right propulsive. Juber plays around the melody on track 3 before launching into an arrangement of "If I Only Had a Brain" that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and have guitarists looking for the inevitable transcription! Stormy Weather finds Juber exploring his bluesier picking with predictably excellent results. Over the Rainbow is heartbreakingly beautiful and ...well I don't want to rave about every song...go to iTUNES and download or pick it up...you won't be sorry...
This, Like LJ Plays the Beatles, will thrill guitarists and the non-guitarists in the audience equally!
oh..and the sound is fanatastic...like he's sitting in your living room!

Folktronica at it's best!.......2007-03-14
Released in 1973.This is the first album to mix the traditional folk music of nick drake with the electronic ambient sounds of brian eno.In doing so john martyn created an entirely new sub-genre of music that still flourishes today. However, the reason for buying the record is the tight grooves and there are plenty of them."I'd rather be the devil"conjures up robert johnson,if he had a multi-track studio, where as the title track is as cool as a summers night stroll on the beach.Bottom line:this album has to be heard to be believed. It's that original and moving.Do yourself a big favor;get this album(his best)and discover what a great talent john martyn was and is.
Brilliant..........2006-01-31
This CD is an unsung treasure. John Martyn displayed a masterful talent for songwriting on this album and the production and arrangements are top notch also. The opening strains of "Solid Air" always give me chills. I read that John Martyn had written this song as a cautionary tale to his friend Nick Drake, and if you listen to the song from this perspective it speaks volumes about their relationship. Nick Drake's biography touches on the guilt and sadness that Martyn felt upon Drake's death and "Solid Air" was his way of reaching out in an attempt to help a friend. John Martyn's talent as a guitar player and vocalist is clear on this album. I'm impressed with the two tones he possessed vocally: the relaxed and almost airy sounding style contrasting with the raspy growl he was capable of. "Don't Want To Know" is just one example of Martyn's great songwriting, with the theme building to a great climax at the end of the song. Also interesting is Martyn's cover of Skip James' "I'd Rather Be The Devil". "May You Never" is such a well crafted song and the guitar part is one of my favorites. This whole CD could really be used as a "How To" manual for upcoming songwriters. As opposed to the synthesizers Martyn employed in his music in the eighties, the keyboard on this album really enhances these songs and I don't find that it has aged badly. Actually, the effect that the keyboards add to the songs is one of my favorite things about this album. There isn't a weak song on this disc and if you are a fan of the singer-songwriters of the early 1970's this criminally neglected album is a must have.
Forgotten Classic.......2005-02-14
Solid Air (1973.), John Martyn's second studio album
Who the hell is John Martyn?? That is probably what 99/100 people would say if you asked them who he was. I think this is quite sad and unfortunate because in John Martyn is an excellent musician, performer and songwriter. Solid Air, John Martyn's 1973 effort is really deserving of all the 5* reviews it has been given by the few reviewers of the album on this site and it is sad that so few people will listen to and experience the greatness of this masterpiece. With John Martyn, you have an artist who is a truly great representer of jazz but also he incorporates a touch of folk and other genres. He is in a class of his own.
So, you ask yourself, where did this bloke appear from. Originally he produced 2 albums with his wife Beverly - 'Road to Ruin' and 'Stormbringer' which are both great. However, from then on he went solo and this is one of his early efforts on his own. The album itself is only about 35 minutes long but it is captivating throughout with Martyn's veratile ability on acoustic guitar and piano. He also has a kind of drooling singing voice (a style he began to adopt around this time) - difficult to understand but its quite unique. The album itself has 9 tracks which are all really good. The pick of these for me are Solid Air, Over The Hill and I'd Rather Be The Devil.
John Martyn himself still performs a lot of these tracks - he's in the past few years released an anthology of his songs. He also still does a lot of live performances.
That aside this 1973 studio album is a forgotten classic which you will find is well worth buying.
an unexpected concurrence of talents.......2004-09-19
This album is to me a beautiful comingling of various talents that each alone is not so remarkable. The voice is plain, but so unusually inflected, the ax work spare but poignant, the song writing probably the most notable, and the whole irresistable. A great work that fits as well in my life today as when it was first released, though admittedly for (probably) different reasons.
On the short list of desert-island records . . ........2004-08-16
What is it about an album that makes it as fresh today as it was 30 years ago? "Solid Air" is up there with Joni Mitchell's "Blue" but sexier, with Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" but hungrier, with anything by Leonard Cohen or Dylan but much easier on the ears. Martyn's songs are less heady, less coverable than any of these artists' best work, but they make perfect places for his Celtic-meets-Delta seductions.

Two Time GRAMMY winning guitarist Laurence Juber offers up 13 acoustic instrumental guitar versions of post Beatles McCartney compositions on "One Wing"...a logical follow up to his best selling "LJ Plays The Beatles" cd which was named the 10th all time Acoustic Guitar recording in a recent poll by Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic!.......2006-07-28
I dont have time to write a detailed review at the moment but this CD is fantastic! As good or better than LJ's Beatles CD.
LJ Revisits Wings and Strikes Gold.......2005-09-21
Laurence Juber is one of the finest guitar players around and his instrumental guitar albums have been the focus of his career for more than two decades. Yet, it's the few years he spent as lead guitarist for Paul McCartney & Wings that he's probably best know for. A visit with Sir Paul was the catalist for this album. When LJ presented him with a copy of "LJ Plays The Beatles" (2000), Paul asked, "What about Wings?" This collection of some of the best of the Wings era McCartney tunes features breathtaking arrangements taken from LJ's time as part of Wings and his unmatched talent on the acoustic guitar. Writing great melodies may have been one of Paul McCartney's strongest abilities and this album by Laurence Juber brings them right to the front in a way that only he can do.
Definitely get this CD!!.......2005-07-14
If you are a fan of any of the music of Wings, or a fan of fingerstyle guitar, or heck, if you just love music, this CD is a must have! How this man pulls off these songs is unbelieveable! The arrangements are beautiful! You will find yourself singing along in your mind with every number! Mr. Juber is an incredible player! There are not enough superlatives to describe how awesome this disc is!
Maybe I'm Amazed....but not really, since it's Laurence Juber........2005-07-01
I first heard Laurence Juber on the brilliant, Grammy award winning "Henry Mancini: Pink Guitar" CD. His solo guitar version of "The Pink Panther Theme" opened the album and was stunning. I was intrigued and then thrilled to discover Juber's classic "LJ Plays the Beatles" album which competely lived up to its 5 star reviews. Well, Juber fans...get ready for his latest endeavor - "One Wing" - it will blow you away! "One Wing" is Mr. Juber's acoustic guitar tribute to his former band leader, Sir Paul McCartney, and is perhaps even tops "LJ Plays the Beatles" for sheer virtuosity and "Wow - I don't believe he can do that!" moments. "My Love" and "Maybe I'm Amazed" are absolutely lovely..."Another Day" is truly magnificant (and a song I hadn't thought about in a very long time....what a great reminder!). But get ready for "Jet" - LJ rocks hard on this one and again, how he pulls off what sounds like a group effort as a solo guitarist (with no overdubs!!) on "Band on the Run" is unbelievable.
Beatles fans.....McCartney fans...guitar fans....music fans...all celebrate with "One Wing."

Customer Reviews:
Enrico Nicola Mancini, AKA Hank, or Henry Mancini.......2007-03-09
As soon as I heard the first cut of this, I had an epiphany, a revelation, if you will. That's what I'm talking about, that's the sound I've been searching for. The acoustic guitar has such a beautiful sound, especially as heard on this recording. The line up of guitarists is nothing short of spectacular.
Laurence Jubar kicks it off with one of Mancini's best known compositions: The Pink Panther. We barely miss the tenor sax of Plas Johnson here, so enthralling is the guitar work and arrangement. Just amazing that this is a solo guitar arrangement. Was there overdubbing? All the cuts are solo, apparantly, except for the last, a duet on Shot In The Dark. These two cuts book end a great recording perfectly.
Nelson Riddle and all of the other musicians who worked in Hollywood were jealous of Hank, because he made all the money on song writing credits. Nelson would be writing out arrangements for Sinatra, or Linda Ronstadt, or scoring films and TV, but then he'd be paid once, and that was it. Mancini, on the other hand, would come up with beautiful melodies, and the royalties would just keep rollin' in.
I remember the song Moonriver because Andy Williams had a TV show, and that was his theme song. It was such a beautiful song, with that haunting melody. Later, I saw the film it was written for, Breakfast at Tiffany's. Audrey Hepburn really kills as Holly Golightly. Paul Desmond and Dave Brubeck were recording, and someone said they wanted to see Audrey Hepburn walking by the riverside, and they just let the tape roll and recorded one of their best tunes ever, Audrey. But Mancini was lucky enough to have written tunes for 3 of her films. Besides the aforementioned, where Audrey starred with George Peppard, Henry also wrote the title songs for Charade, where Audrey played with Cary Grant, and Two For the Road, with Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney.
One other thing about Moonriver, lyricist Johnny Mercer had a line in it, "My Huckleberry friend," and no one knew what it meant and they wanted him to take it out. Of course, he refused, and later Mercer's biography was titled My Huckleberry Friend.
Mancini had a whimsical side as well, as in Baby Elephant Walk from the film Hatari, with John Wayne and Red Buttons. He could be very dramatic, as in Peter Gunn. And how about the title song to Days of Wine and Roses,
with Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick? Henry Mancini was very cinematic, and no wonder he won all those Oscars.
Great songs in a fabulous setting. There is nothing but excellent playing here, and Mark Hanson & Doug Smith, William Coulter, Aaron Stang, David Cullen, Wayne Johnson, Doug Smith, Ed Gerhard, Pat Donohue, Laurence Juber, Mark Hanson, Al Petteway, Amrit Sond, and Mike Dowling deserve much applause and a standing ovation.
This album won the 2004 Grammy for best instrumental album.
Rest in peace, Henry Mancini (4/16/1924 - Cleveland Ohio to 6/14/1994 - Los Angeles,California), your music will live forever.
Lovely!.......2007-03-08
This CD is wonderful. I love Henri Mancini and when I saw a guitar version of his work by various guitarists, I scooped it up immediately. I love it when guitarists collaborate and produce beautiful work like this. I hope they do more CDs like this in themes!
Fingerstyle at its best.......2007-01-12
One of my favorite guitarists, Mike Dowling, plays on this record. Since I have all of his CD's, I eventually had to get this one, even if he only plays on one track. I was a bit worried that the Mancini source would lead to sacharine work. Wrong. Each guitarist, and all are masterful, presents the music within his own style. The tunes selected are both part of our common culture, and in some cases not so familiar. The results are outstanding, across the board.
"Our Man in Hollywood (2004) ~ Hank Mancini".......2005-07-18
As one of Hank's songs goes "IT'S EASY TO SAY" this album "HENRY MANCINI: PINK GUITAR", won for "Best Pop Instrumental Album of the Year 2004" (47th Grammy Winner)...what a treasure of music "Our Man In Hollywood", (Henry Mancini - real name:Enrico Nicola Mancini)...left behind for all of his old and new fans to enjoy...remember most of these were composed in the '60s '70s and '80s... I can imagine Hank sitting at the piano as his loving family stand around him listening to acoustic guitar solos by "The World's Greatest Acoustic Guitarists".
Typical Mancini compositions flourish with his distinctive crisp, bracing, yet unfailingly melodic contribution to the listener...the album songs are listed in alphabetical order with guitarists and film credits:
A SHOT IN THE DARK - Mark Hanson & Doug Smith (from the film "A Shot in the Dark" - Peter Sellers)
BABY ELEPHANT WALK - William Coulter (from the film "Hatari" - John Wayne & Red Buttons)
CHARADE - Aaron Stang (from the film "Charade" - Cary Grant & Audrey Hepburn)
DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES - David Cullen (from the film "Days of Wine & Roses" - Jack Lemmon & Lee Remmick)
DEAR HEART - Wayne Johnson (from the film "Dear Heart" - Glenn Ford & Geraldine Paige)
IT'S EASY TO SAY - Doug Smith (from the film "10" - Dudley Moore, Julie Andrews & Bo Derek)
MOON RIVER - Ed Gerhard (from "Breakfast at Tiffany's" - Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard & Mickey Rooney)
PETER GUNN - Pat Donohue (from "Peter Gunn" Television Series - Craig Stevens as Peter Gunn)
PINK PANTHER THEME - Laurence Juber (from the "Pink Panther" film series - Peter Sellers & Herbert Lom)
SWEETHEART TREE - Mark Hanson (from "The Great Race" - Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis & Natalie Wood)
THORNBIRDS THEME - Al Petteway (from "The Thornbirds" Television Mini-Series)
TWO FOR THE ROAD - Amrit Sond (from the film "Two for the Road" - Audrey Hepburn & Albert Finney)
WHAT'S HAPPENING - Mike Dowling (from "What's Happening" Television Series)
Henry Mancini is no longer with us (4/16/1924 - Cleveland Ohio to 6/14/1994 - Los Angeles,California), but this wonderful collection of his music, will be a constant reminder that he was here and made the difference...worked with Blake Edwards on "Peter Gunn" (1958-1961 - Television Series - won two Grammy's for the album), he and Edwards gave us the film "Breakfast at Tiffanys" (1961) where Hank won two Oscars...Mancini picked up more Oscars for the title song "Days Of Wine and Roses" (1962) and the score for "Victor/Victoria" (1982), featuring Julie Andrews, James Garner and Robert Preston...Mancini will best be remembered for the themes on "The Pink Panther"...now sit back as you have a "Mancini Moment", listening to the latest release "Henry Mancini: Pink Guitar", savor and enjoy, when you realize Hank Mancini was one of a kind!

Customer Reviews:
stunning.......2007-03-10
Ed Gerhard is definitely one of the most gifted guitarist out there. Not only for his technical capability, but what distinguishes him from all other virtuosos is his versatility and magical touch. His playing and interpretations are most eloquent that he is in a league of his own. It's a must buy for both guitarists and non guitarists!
How does one rate perfection?.......2007-01-09
I wrote and rewrote this review a bunch of times and just gave up. Everything I said just sounded trite and juvenile. Listen to his samples, buy the CD, go to his website, and if you are very lucky, hear him in concert. He is a gem!

Album Description
Kenny Sultan is best known as the guitarist in the perenially popular blues duo of Tom Ball and kenny Sultan. West Coast Blues finds Sultan without his vocalist partner and on these 17 cuts of instrumental blues Sultan spans the gambit from sexy shuffles to toe tapping rags, with the odd slide number thrown in for variety.

Album Description
Noted Blues and Swing guitar master Mike Dowling creates a timeless collection of instrumentals in the Blues/Folk vein on Bottomlands. Sounding like a dozen lost Stephen Foster tunes , Dowlings playing and composing runs the gambit from slide tunes which evoke trips down the Mississippi to the energetic Johnson City Rag.
Customer Reviews:
Mike is a great finger style artist.......2005-09-07
I resently puchased bottom lands and am injoying it very much . the only reason i did't give it a 5 star rateing ,i was hopeing for more slide guitar, but mike does not disappoint in his finger style approch to guitar. He is not just imatateing old stlyeings , he brings his own very personal and melodic ideas to the blues and beyond.really good stuff! john e.
If you love accoustic guitar.......2002-12-07
this is my all time favorite album. I own more than a thousand cd's and I have listened to this until I am sick of it and it is still my all time favorite instrumental accoustic guitar album. I hope Mike will continue to record more like this. His skill with the old National guitar is unmatched by anyone living or dead.

Album Description
Over an HOUR of phenomenal instrumental acoustic guitar performances from North Americas most accomplished players. The music is tough to categorize..too complex for Folk and way too muscular for NEW AGE...New Acoustic Instrumental is best.
Customer Reviews:
This CD is Wonderful! .......2005-09-14
I really enjoy the songs on this CD! They are truly resplendent. My personal favorite is #7-Flaming Heart. I love this CD...truly enjoy it. It has the 'romantic' guitar songs, and some are a little more upbeat, faster. It is great to listen to while driving. It kind of calms you...which is a good thing! Palatable.
Check out the samples and see what you think! I am sure if you enjoy acoustic you will enjoy these songs!
A Must Have For Solo Guitar Fans.......2000-06-11
