Editorial Reviews

In a way, Ceoltoiri are a little reminiscent of the Chieftains, in that they take a slightly more orchestral--as opposed to rough and ready, session-type--approach to the music, framing it in a slightly more formal context. They're at their very best, however, when the music is framing Connie McKenna's lovely voice, which isn't a million miles from Steeleye Span's Maddy Prior. That isn't to say that the instrumental sets lack power--just that the songs seem to offer these women a greater focus. There are some interesting touches--clarinet and woodwinds here and there--but it's good to see them using traditional material, instead of adding to the already cluttered canon. In an age of Celtic proliferation, sorting the wheat from the chaff takes a strong act of will. But Ceoltoiri are definitely wheat. --Chris Nickson

Excellent album.......2007-01-10
This is one of my favorite music CDs. The music has a haunting beauty about it, and although (from a guy's perspective) one or two of the songs are a little sappy/girlie, overall I still find this one of my favorite albums.
Fantastic.......2006-02-23
I can listen to this disc over and over again. I have listened to it for about a month now, and am still not tired of the lilting voices. A wonderful composite of singers and songs.
Four Fair Maidens Awaken The Celtic Muse.......2006-02-01
'Celtic Voices' featuring Mary McLaughlin, Connie Dover, Maireid Sulllivan and Emma Christian is a wonderous blend of traditional and contemporary folk compositions. This 14 track compilation moves smoothly and seamlessly through a fascinating soundscape of mood and emotion with each performer leaving her own indellible mark on the listener. There's McLauglin's brooding and deeply mystical 'Yundah,' Dover's festive 'In Aimsir Bhaint an Fheir,' and Sullivan's nostalgic and romantic 'She Moves Through the Fair.' Concluding with Christian's bittersweet 'The Goodnight Song' we bid a sad farewell, at least for now, to a beautiful listening experience that will call you back again and again to the Emerald Isle of Dreams.
It's simply the best compilation of Celtic music I've yet to come across. Definitely one of the essentials.
really beautiful.......2005-08-15
this is definitely repeat listening material. the voices are so wonderful, the words are almost unnecessary. some of the songs bring tapping and swaying to your whole body, others bring tears. i am certainly glad i bought this cd.
an amazingly beautiful album.......2005-03-15
This absolutely breathtaking album features four women who, even though are not as well known as artists such as Eyna, Loreena Mckennitt, Clannad and The Chieftians, have made a monumental impact on not only the Celtic music industry, but also in my own life.
First there is Mary McLaughlin who sings "Bring The Peace", "You Saw His Eyes", and "Sealwoman/Yundah". Born in North Ireland, Mary moved to London at the age of 18 where her music career began to flourish. The album begins with "Sealwoman/Yundah", a spellbinding, almost erotically charged song inspired by the Celtic legand of the selkies (sea-like creatures able to take human form). In it the "Sealwoman" (selkie) is torn between her home (the sea) and human love. Next up is "Bring The Peace" a lovely song about gaining wisdom after a period of seperation, and for coming "full circle." Rounding off the three songs Mary contributes is "You Saw His Eyes" whose message resonates any pop song that's out there today: to love someone only to be brokenhearted.
next up is Connie Dover, born in Arkansas and raised in Missouri. She sings "The Wishing Well", "In Aimsir Bhaint an Fheir", "Siuil a Ruin" and "Cantus". Praising the birth and final sacrifice of Christ as well as the devotion of Mary, his Mother, "Cantus" is exceptionally emotional. "In Aimsir Bhaint an Fheir" (at haycutting time) is a stark contrast to "Cantus". More lively and upbeat, this traditonal song finishes with a dance tune written by Phil Cunningham who has had a long and fruitful working relationship with Connie. The mood changes drasticlly once again for "The Wishing Well", inspired by a poem written by Padraig Prease. This poignant song is about the sometimes overpowerful feelings of love and the fear of "losing yourself" in the process. "Siuil a Ruin" (go, love) is the heartbreaking tale of a woman's love for a solider who has fled to France in times of war.
After Connie's beautiful voice, there is the equally stunning voice of Maireid Sullivan, who was born in Ireland and at age 11 moved with her family to San Francisco, and later moved to Melbourne, Australia. She sings "Colour Me", and the more traditional "She Moved Through The Fair" and "Waly Waly". "Colour Me", co-written by Maireid and guitarist Steve Wilson, paints a lovely picture of a river on a sunny day. "She Moved Through The Fair" has been a favorite among celtic artists (Lorenna Mckennitt also sings a rendition of it, among others)and "Waly Waly", another traditional favorite is sometimes refered to "The Water Is Wide"
Closing out the album is harpist and Isle Of Man native Emma Christian who contributes the songs "Ushag Veg Ruy" (Little Red Bird), "Oikan Ayns Bethlehem" (Birth In Bethlehem),"O Kirree, Tou Goll Dy Faagail Mee" (O Kirree Thou Wilt Leave Me), and (very fittingly) "Arrane Oie Vie" (The Goodnight Song). Sung in her native language, Manx Gaelic, Emma creates a serene, intimate atmosphere for her audience. Keeping close to her roots, all four songs are rich with the Manx tradition.
The Title for this cd (Celtic Voices:Women Of Song) is so perfect because I feel the human voice is one of the most complex and beautiful instruments. This cd clearly demostrates that in the stunning, impressive talents of these four women. This is a wonderful album for immense lovers of Celtic music (such as myself) and also for those who are new to Celtic music. I highly recommend it.

Listen to the samples, these are poorly reproduced copies. Electronic music especially is extremely hard to reproduce exact "voices" for the notes.
"Dr. Strangelove, The Shining & Spartacus ~ Kubrick".......2005-03-11
One can only thank Silva Screen for releasing a Tribute album "2001: Music from the Films of Stanley Kubrick", featuring just a handful of films and scores from writer/director Stanley Kubrick......but what an impact they have made on audiences everywhere over the years...his shoes are not easy to fill in the world of film making.
Did I mention Peter Sellers manifesting his talent enough for three roles, which included a U.S. President in "DR. STRANGELOVE, OR HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING ABOUT AND LOVE THE BOMB"(1964), besides Sellers we have Sterling Hayden(crazed General) and George C. Scott(gum chewing insanity), but Slim Pickens steals the show with his wild ride on the "bomb"..."THE KILLING" (1956), "PATHS OF GLORY" (1957) and "SPARTACUS" (1960), an original true story of a gladitor(Kirk Douglas) who leads other slaves into rebellion against a powerful Rome in 73 B.C...actor and executive producer Douglas was magnificent in the film, with brilliant Kubrick directing...outstanding score by Alex North..."LOLITA" (1962), "2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY" (1968), "A CLOCKWORK ORANGE" (1971), master film maker Kubrick pulled out all the stops on this one, Malcolm McDowell(sadistic punk is funny fierce psychopath) a cult following with memorable scenes..."BARRY LYNDON" (1975), adventures of an Irish gambler whose transition from innocence into the pit of aristocracy in the 18th Century...Ryan O'Neal stars, never better in a role..."THE SHINING" (1980), we know Jack Nicholson can go off the deep end, but in this film(he's completely off the charts), can think of no other actor that can pull this off..."FULL METAL JACKET" (1987)...quite a line up from one of the industries leaders in film making, and the scores that pulled them off.
Hats off to The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Paul Bateman, Nic Raine and Mark Ayres...Crouch End Festival Chorus, conducted by Bateman...James Fitzpatrick (producer), Reynold da Silva (executive producer)...and the many soloist Tomas Lerst on fiddle, Vaclay Skyora on tin whistle, Zbynka Solcova on celtic harp, Gareth Williams on harpsichord and Jaraslava Eliasova on piano...and a big thank you to Silva Screen for keeping all of us "film-score-buffs" in a happy mood...gotta love it!

This 1995 assemblage of Celtic (which is to say, Irish and Scottish) female artists, mostly sopranos of the more ethereal sort, is drawn from the pick of the crop. Some sing in Irish, others in English, and the selections move from contemporary singer-songwriters to hard-core trad mavens to airy New Age goddesses complete with wavery tin flutes and tsunamis of synth wash. A newcomer to Celtic music will find the selections enjoyable and the liner notes by Fiona Ritchie and Caitlin Ni Bheagain speak knowledgeably about where it all came from and why it matters. However, compilations of music by women have become too ubiquitous over the past few years, milking a tiresome marketing concept for all it's worth. To be fair, this was an early entry and the producers very likely meant well. But these brilliant artists deserve better than to be lumped together by gender. --Christina Roden
Customer Reviews:
Ethereal, Heavenly, Spiritual.......2006-11-07
It is the best Celtic music I have come across. The music is so Heavenly. The female voices are of another world. I feel as if I'm in a different dimension. It is very relaxing music. There's no exaggeration to this music. Buy it.
Four and a half actually..........2002-10-30
This is an album worth buying. I love all the songs, though I don't understand a word of those that aren't in English. When I first discovered Celtic music, this was my first inquisition, and it still is one of my favorites. I tend to agree with a reviewer that I don't really understand the order of the compilation, but I also agree with this reviewer that Celtic music is a broad field. I cannot imagine trying to choose just twelve to put into one CD...
A pretty good (but limited) overview.......2002-05-31
This cassette contains a number of songs that span the range of Celtic music from the more traditional-sounding (such as "On We Go") to the Celtic New Age-sounding ("Dúlamán"). Though the variety can sometimes feel a little odd, this is inevitable with a one-CD or one-cassette collection of music from such a broad category as Celtic. However, a number of the songs included are excellent, and (if I had the money), I would consider buying more music from many of these artists.
New-Age Women who happen to be Celtic.......2001-10-20
With the exception of "Dublin to Dakar", I found Putumayo's Celtic Collection to to be more New-Age than Celtic. I do not think the four other Celtic titles represent the "organic feel" you get as you travel from pub to pub across Ireland.
Althought I was NOT necessarily looking for a traditional CD, these do NOT give the listener a cross-sampling of some of the newer, "hip" bands. It's as if they chose the songs that enjoyed the most commercial success.
And that's a shame. Putumayo has been first rate at compiling CDs that truly represent the different Lands they explore. (I now own 22 of them)
If you like the psuedo-Druid, New-Age, Enya-like sound, then sure, get it. If you like your jigs and reels, songs that tell you a real story while you quaff a few pints with your mates, these CDs are NOT for you.
Again, I recommend "Dublin to Dakar" to those who are interested in the "real" sound. It is hauntingly familiar, yet somehow exotic. Without knowing it you're swept up into these songs. You care about what the singers are saying.
I can NOT recommend "Women of the World: Celtic, Vols 1 & 2", "Celtic Tides" or "Celtic Collection". I think the sound is synthetic and pretentious, and despite all the hints at spiritualism, I found it souless. It is not representative of "real" Ireland.
Should have been titled "New-Age Celtic".
Cheers.
A magical experience that relaxes and recharges.......2001-05-15
There is something ultimately magical and haunting about the superb selections featured in this magnificently compiled introductory CD that manages to speak directly to the heart, allowing it to be both healed and inspired to brass out the world at the same time.
As depicted in the excellent, imformative and illustrative liner notes by NPR's Fiona Ritchie (the CD would be even better if it had her speaking her commentary!), the Celtic women were responsible for singing the histories of their people (really all women in all cultures were). Listening to the songs presented here, which run the gamut from traditional to contemporary musings on classical themes, one gets the true celebration of what it means to be a human being. These women are historians of the human soul.
The music here connects the listener to a sense of mystery and place like all great works of art should. In today's pop culture which seems to value the vulgar, the loud, the intrusive, the ugly, the angry and the devisive as art, the recent revival of Celtic music stands apart. It invites inclusion, introspection and healing as well as bold romance and courage.
This is not to say that sadness and despair is overlooked in favor of banality and rose colored glasses- God, no. The history of Celtic peoples as presented here in microcasm is filled with terror, pain and lament. But out of the blue darkness of tragedy comes the light of hope and that is what rings true in this collection.
The women singers here, all worth seeking out in their own catalouges, take on many roles: clowns, goddesses, lovers, witches, warriors and mothers. It is a privilage to share in their journeys. I celebrate the rise of Traditional World music, which this is but a mere taste. Listening to traditional music, makes one believe that somewhere in this maddening, techno-obsessed world, there just might be a larger context which includes us all.
Included here are two of my favorite Mary Black pieces, the heart tugging "Song for Ireland" and the swashbuckling "Treasure Island". Also included is the Siren-like Karen Mathieson leading Capercaille through "Aineen Diene" (SP!) a bone chilling wail that, if one remembers it from the soundtrack of the excellent film "Rob Roy", will always make one look behind their back on a foggy night.
I use this CD in many ways: for mood music in acting class, background music to write by, road trip sountrack, make-out music, and simple entertainment. This CD is money well spent.

The second volume of Voices of Celtic Women features some of the finest singers in Ireland and Scotland. The music ranges from the ultratraditional a cappella of Ray Fisher to the techno beat of Talitha MacKenzie. This collection overcomes the potentially jarring musical transitions such a wide stylistic gap can create by skillfully choosing songs that have slower tempos and similar themes. Sorrow and longing are the threads that tie traditional performances like Dolores Keane's "The Low Low Lands of Holland" and Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill's "Martha, the Flower of Sweet Strabane" to more modern songs like Susan McKeown's "Banks of Claudy" and Antoinette McKenna's "O Ro Song of the Sea." There are many laments and tragic ballads here, but the dignity and emotional power of the singers keep the songs from becoming mere tearjerkers. This is music to listen to in solitude, perhaps when you are trying to mend a broken heart. --Michael Simmons

Holding up Half the Sky: Voices of Celtic Women II.......2005-04-16
This is an absolutely excellent CD. The last song is my most favorite, but they all are really great.
Celtic Music Fan.......2002-01-03
This is a great CD. I find it's one I turn to often when I want to hear beautiful, soothing music. The singers' present wonderful ballads and laments, evoking powerful images and emotions. Even though it features several different performers, there is a seamless quality to the CD itself - each song seems to fit in perfectly with the others.

Women of Eire share songs of loves gained and lost............2004-04-07
Celtic Sisters: The Women of Ireland, is a treasure of Celtic music sung by various young Irish female singers. Their music springs from one of the liveliest of musical traditions and reflects one of the Western world's oldest cultures. Now from across the Atlantic comes a whole new generation of songwriters and performers featured in this wonderful1998 St. Clair CD release.
Of the 12 tracks in this beautiful compilation of Irish love songs and tales of romances that have either survived or died, my favorite songs are "This Moment" sung by Fiona Joyce, which tells how a woman can feel with her heart for someone. "Ooneyal Rain" by Orla, tells of yearning for a lost love, "I Remember" by Marian Bradfield, is a tale of remembered passion between a woman and her lover. "Everywhere I Go" by Rosemary Woods, tells a story of how love should ideally be with someone. "Little White Lies" (Bradfield again) has a gentle yet bittersweet tempo as she recalls how much she loved someone until their relationship ended.
These are songs that will reach out and touch your heart. There is such power in the singers' voices that I've found myself listening to this CD over and over. The songs can make you feel how love can either lift you to the sky and keep you on Cloud Nine or dash to the ground with the pain of losing the one you love.
Even though some of the songs in Celtic Sisters are indeed very heartrending, nevertheless I am glad that I found this beautiful album while searching for Celtic music to add to my music library.
Celtic Sisters.......2002-11-19
I was totally surprised when I first listened to this cd. It is a blend between traditional and contemporary celtic music and very beautiful to say the least. It would be useful to note that country or bluegrass music originated from Irish and Scottish imigrants that settled in the "highlands" of America! One can really hear the influence in this music as contempary celtic music takes a classy country turn.
just buy Rebecca Pidgeon.......2002-04-21
This CD was not what I expected in the least. I saw the CD cover, and not having listened even a little bit, expected old fashioned Celtic folk music. Two tracks live up to that expectation.. #6, The Haughs of Cromdale (by far the best track on the CD) and #1, Fhear a Ohata (also good). These tracks are what make the CD worth buying, if it is at all. But for these songs, you might as well not buy the CD. Those two tracks are by the same artist, Rebecca Pidgeon (by no coincidence), and I would recommend buying Pidgeon's CD "The Four Marys".. which features these two songs, and has a number of other pleasant songs. The two other tracks I like on the CD are #s 4, "Short a Penny" and 12, "High Ground". Track 4 gives me the image of Beggars walking the street in 19th Century Dublin... and Track 4 might as well be a pop song. The main thing I noticed most on this CD is that, excepting tracks 6 and 1, these songs sound more like Country Western/Jazz than Celtic. The vocals are all great, but the lack of Celtic instruments is very dissapointing. Most tracks have piano and bass... which by themselves don't sound Celtic at all. So again, If you are looking for old fashioned Celtic Folk, you're better off with Rebecca Pidgeon's CD than wasting money on this one.
awesome.......2000-09-04
I think that this is a beautiful cd. The best songs- ( ithink) are Donegal Rain, and West of Eden. If you like this- Mau I also recommend Darby DeVon's Highlands.
Beautifully orchestrated music.......1999-12-09
This cd provides entertainment to those who enjoy folk music. The vocals are comfortably unique. The music is extremely laid back and is great to listen to while working. Celtic Sisters is a brilliant collection of songs.

This just cries for jigs and reels.......2005-04-28
Women of the World: Celtic II is quite an excellent CD, filled with techno mixed and modernized music of the Celtic peoples. This CD provides great examples of the wonderful music played by the Celts. Being part Scotts and English, I was quite interested in this style of music to begin with, and I am not dissapointed at all with this CD. I, however, don't recommend this CD to people who aren't fans of this style! If you don't like Celtic music to begin with, then I doubt you'll be interested in this, and the 30 second demos do this CD no justice. Natalie MacMaster's "The Drunken Piper", while as I could see had no piping in it, had excellent fiddling and is a great way to open up the CD. Over all, this CD totally deserves a 5/5, if not more!
AWESOME CD!.......2003-08-13
This is one of the best Irish music cd Ive heard! I usually dont like Irish vocals as much as the dance music, but most of the songs on here are awesome, and so much fun to listen to!
great CD.......2003-04-14
It is rare that you find all celtic songs in one album that are each excellent in their own right. I highly recommend this.
Not for me.......2002-10-28
Maybe it's too Scottish for me. These voices seem
weak and uninteresting to me, compared to Connie
Dover, who I love. I find the long musical repetitions
too long, although I usually love that feature of Irish
music. I liked 'Black is the Colour", Ta Se Na La (
though it's too long) and "It Ain't Funny" - love the
instrumental finish to that one. I find practically none
of the haunting or lilting beauty I expected.
One of my all-time favourite CDs.......2002-09-13
I was given a copy of this CD several years ago and it instantly became my favourite cd--it far outstrips the original Celtic Women of the World collection. A wide range of styles are represented, from traditional gaelic to folk, and even though my gaelic isn't strong enough to interpret the all gaelic selections, I appreciate them for their oftentimes haunting beaty. The collection is a treat to listen to, and I can't recommend it highly enough. I particularly enjoyed the renditions of Sovay and Black is the Colour--both very different from traditional arrangements.

Over the Hills and Far Away.......2002-04-03
The beauty of Carol Thompson's music is dizzying. There is nothing I can think of that fills up a candlelit room more nobly than the sound of her harp. Where does Dorian find these consistently great musicians? They must be growing them on some hidden magic tree somewhere. Either way, I am glad for the music they put out. This disc by Carol Thompson is among the best Dorian has to offer.
Lush and lovely music from the past.......2000-01-20
Perhaps some day Dorian Recordings will turn out a poor CD, but among their more recent releases are four sets that feature harpist Carol Thompson. The artist was born in this country of Anglo-Welsh-Irish background (as the copywriter tells us). Part of her technique is to let her ornamentation come out of the melody rather than merely appending it, and to execute her chords with a "downward roll" rather than an upward as in classical harp playing.
So with Amazon.com's permission, I will submit this same write up to each of the four webpages that deal with these albums.
(DOR-90013) has Ms. Thompson accompanied by another harpist and a wooden flute; and the extra coloration is welcome. Here we have 18 cuts (64 minutes) of Celtic harp music, the more familiar of which are "Brian Boru's March" and "Gentle Annie." The notes are of a general nature.
The subtitle of
(DOR-90120) shows the program (53 minutes) to be much like the other sets, including the familiar "All Through the Night" and "The Ash Grove." I spot even one or two selections among the 19 here that appeared on earlier recordings. But it is all so winningly played that one must not carp. The notes are in several languages and a bit shorter than usual to keep the booklet from being too thick.
(DOR-90176) has 71 minutes consisting of 21 cuts such as "She Moves Through the Fair" and "Snow on the Hills." This set tends to be more satisfactory than the last one because of the presence of accordion, concertina, wooden flute and second harp; although by now one tune is starting to blur into the other.
The fourth Dorian set in order of recording is
(DOR-90240) in which our harpist goes it alone with a short program (51 minutes) of 12 cuts, half of which are medleys. Included are "Twisting of the Rope," "Blind Mary" and the title song. This time the notes give information about each song.
Again I must emphasize the excellence of the playing and how beautiful each CD is by itself. But as with so many artists that concentrate on a small part of the music spectrum, each new offering tends to be predictable and one gets a strong feeling of déjà vu. But to be fair, these sets were released with considerable time between them and only people like reviewers now and then get to hear them all at once.
So which to choose? I would go for the two where you get more than the sound of a single harp first. But I really think that enthusiasts of British music will want to have all of these sets sooner or later.
And keep an eye open for the fifth entry in this series:
(DOR-90273) that is not yet available at the time of this writing.
Superlative.......1998-09-25
This is truly beautiful music on harps having more character than the modern concert harp. The melodies are attractive, with good counterpoint figures. Recorded sound is first-rate, without mush or harshness, although low-frequency noises from the recording venue may intrude during quiet passages if your equipment goes low with authority. I have bought several of these CD's - when I play them for friends and family, they ask me for the CD as a gift!

Enchanting Ensemble.......2005-03-18
This is a wonderful collection of music. Buy it because you can't live without it!
In infinitely beautiful voices!.......2003-07-29
This CD represents an excellent mix of traditional and modern celtic music by women artists. The songs range the full emotional continuum from extremely joyful to extremely sad. The upbeat songs will make even the most resistent listener tap their feet. And if you are looking for a good cry, try THESE sad songs. Whatever you want, this CD contains some of the very best in women's celtic music. A must have for any celtic music enthusist.
How did I live without this one before? EXCELLENT.......2001-04-02
This two CD set it a compilation of celtic music by celtic artists. The melodies vary from Cherish the Ladies' "Lord Mayo" -- a cascading piano piece, to Altan's "McFarley's Mill" -- fiddle music complete with accompanying taps (Irish dance). This mix of celtic music is enjoyable from the first piece to the last. A truly wonderful blend full of life and joy.
I don't know how I lived without this one before. I thought I lost this set -- it was borrowed by a co-worker without asking. Well, it has become such a staple of my listening that I grew a little frantic wondering where it had gone. I did get it back, otherwise I would have puchased another set. Buy it, you'll love it too!!
One of the most beautiful Celtic albums........2001-03-24
I recently got this album for my 17th birthday. This album is one of the best definitions of Celtic music. It has tracks by many Celtic women stars such as Cherish the Ladies, Niamh Parsons, Altan, Touchstone, Capercaillie, and Eileen Ivers, along with many other lovely female talents. Joanie Madden brings melody with the flute and whistle. Eileen Ivers, Liz Carroll, and Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh bring energy on the fiddle. Triona Ni Dhomhnaill sings with a sincere heart. Sharon Shannon, Altan, and Cherish the Ladies use accordians in ways that make you want to dance. Niamh Parsons' strong alto is so wonderful in "Clohine Winds". Many well arranged traditional melodies are played on this album. A majority of this music is traditional, but some of this music is contemparary, like Deanta's "Ready For the Storm"(one of my favorites) and "Unicorns". I love Reeltime's jig version of "Siuil A Run"(check out the versions by Clannad and the Chieftains). I love the banjo in "Jack Haggerty". I love the voices and harps of Sileas. I should say that there is not a single bad song on this album. All of these songs are really good. All of the music brings you right to the heart of Ireland. I should give credit to all of these artists on this album: Deanta, Cherish the Ladies, Niamh Parsons and the Loose Connections, Altan, Cappercaillie(they sound a lot like Clannad), Trian, Sileas, Touchstone, Joanie Madden of Cherish the Ladies, Reeltime, Eileen Ivers, Sharon Shannon(I loved her accordian melodies in Maire Breatnach's "Angel's Candles", Relativity, Open House, Liz Carroll, Carla Sciaky, June Tabor and Martin Simpson, and I should not disinclude Maeve Donnelly. Some of these artists are well known, such as Eileen Ivers(who is famous for her role in Riverdance), Altan, Capercaillie, Cherish the Ladies, and Niamh Parsons. But many of these artists I didn't know about until I got this recording. So getting this album well be a good way to be introduced to great artists. It's hard to say enough about this CD, because it is so good. Those who like Celtic women like Maire Brennan and Karan Casey will certainly enjoy this collection.
The Mesmerizing Sound of "Her Infinite Variety".......2001-02-20
This is a rather amazing Celtic CD. There is a wide variety of extremely talented women representing this music selection. I found the variety interesting, very stimulating, and yet at times soothing and quite enjoyable. The voices blend and are remarkable and represent a collection of some of the finest Celtic voices singing today. This is a CD collection which will grasp the heart and hold it, as if to mesmerize with the most beautiful music and Celtic lore.

Best celtic music compilation!.......2006-04-14
We heard "Rambling Irishman" on the radio in Ireland while on our honeymoon. We fell in love with that version of the song and found it on this album along with a bunch of other goodies!
beautiful music!.......2000-06-21
Anyone who has a flare for celtic music that is captivating and moving at once, this is the CD for you! It's so beautiful, I can sit listening to it for hours and not get tired of it. I've not been a fan of Celtic music for too long, but the music that I have heard on this CD and others has me hooked. This CD provoked a strange look from my uncle, but I find it to be absolutely worth listening to!
