Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Waltz of the Whippoorwill.......2007-02-20

I bought this years ago as a cassette tape and loved it but misplaced it during a move. It resurfaced recently and I played it again, to find that I love it even more than I did 20 yrs ago. Joe Weed is an absolute genius- all the pieces are wonderful and I still get tears in my eyes when I hear the title piece because it's so beautiful. FABULOUS CD!

5 out of 5 stars Fussy Infant.......2003-02-11

Everyone has heard of the saying "music soothes the savage beast". This holds true with our little baby boy.

My 9 month old boy instantly became a calm happy baby when I first popped this CD in when he got fussy. 6 months later, it magically turns him into a happy baby boy.

What IS it that puts him at ease? Mandolin? I don't know. I have tried other types of relaxing music, but this CD works instantly everytime. His mood changes within 10 seconds and I can usually get him to start giggling and acting like his usual self.

He has a few extra favorite where he will get excited about when it comes on, but all the songs work.

This CD is my livesaver. I have had to buy a CD for both my cars, our boombox and our home stereo system. WALTZ of the Whippoorill has saved us and made our baby even happier

5 out of 5 stars What a wonderful surprise.......2000-10-18

"Waltz of the Whip-poor-will" is a real delight, kind of like a cool breeze on a warm summer day. As an avid birder and an acoustic music fan, this CD is a two-run homer. I never thought of chickadees singing a polka or whip-poor-will's waltzing, but it all seems so natural now!

This CD's flavor is mellow-acoustic, with touches of Celtic (before it was cool), jazzgrass, and even blues. Joe Weed (where are you now?) plays the fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and viola beautifully, and is joined by master talents Todd Phillips (on bass) and David Grisman (mandolin, of course) on several tracks. Stunning quality throughout.

If you enjoy innovative acoustic music, you'll love "Waltz of the Whip-poor-will." To quote Darol Anger's comments in the liner notes: "Joe Weed's Waltz of the Whippoorwill is some sweet, sweet acoustic dream- if you hung this music in your kitchen window it'd make rainbows."

5 out of 5 stars a sound gem for many senses.......1999-07-25

charming bouncy clever fresh. Where did this come from and why hadn't I heard it about it before? It doesn't matter if it's not your style, every song is a pleasure. I've given it as a gift too and the comments I get are over the top appreciation. Check it out
