These musicians, probably best known for their recordings with De Danaan, seem to be able to play just about any kind of music (short of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony) in any style, using arrangements by Gavin (who plays whistle, flute, fiddle, and viola) and Hession (who plays all kinds of keyboards). The traditional religious carols ("Silent Night," "Adeste Fideles," "Angels We Have Heard on High") get a reverent treatment, sometimes flavored with folk instruments. Festive tunes ("Deck the Halls," "Tommy Coen's Christmas") come out as jigs and reels, and one of the best numbers on the disc is "The Holly Reel," an original composition by Gavin. Some modern songs get an old-fashioned jazz treatment ("Ragtime Rudolph" and "Jingle Bells Jazz"). This is an imaginative and well-played collection, neatly mingling new and familiar pieces, and giving a new twist to the older items. --Joe McLellan

It was said by Everlast himself(on his Island Record message board) about a month before this CD came out, that he was not asked permission to make the CD, and nobody from House of Pain is making money off of it. Rhino only got Tommy Boy's permission, and made the CD. This means that Everlast, Lethal and Danny Boy all got jerked by Rhino. Screw Rhino. This CD is a joke, and the ones who decided which tracks go on this CD need to die. This CD was NOT remastered, and this CD does NOT express House of Pain/Everlast's greatest songs. DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM. But if you do so choose to, please, by a used copy. Everlast isn't making money off of this, Lethal aint seeing a dime, and Danny Boy is getting jerked, too. Don't by this album. It's not a real Best Of album, and nothing on here is remastered.

I am a big Everlast & House Of Pain Fan. I think this CD is great and I think it's great they finally have a greatest hits. Though,the album is missing songs such as "Top o the morning to ya","The Have nots", "Fed Up","Today (watch me shine)","I Can't Move" and "Deadly assassins". But still,the album is great. And it's a must for any Everlast/HOP fans or hip hop fans.

I've wondered for years why "House Of Pain" had no collections out, and even though this could be better, it's still "On Point". I do wish this included "Top O' The Morning To Ya", "House Of Pain Anthem", "Back From The Dead", and "Beef Jerky", from the "Jerky Boys" soundtrack. But, it does have the classic "Jump Around", "Same As It Ever Was", "Pass The Jinn", and "Just Another Victim", from the "Judgment Night" soundtrack. There's even a couple of 1990 pre-HOP tracks on here from "Everlast". Although I do like his solo stuff, and hope he keeps recording, I think this could have been an all "House Of Pain" collection. Also, chronological order would have been nice to seperate the two eras. Still though, this is 17 tracks of dope beats, and "Fine Malt Lyrics".

Many of the kids that listen to hip hop today, might not even know who House of Pain (HOP) was. Unfortunately, this effort will not motivate them to know what a revolutionary hip hop band they were. The content is fine and it's great to hear these jams resurface. But what about jams like "Legends", "Fed Up", "The Have Nots", "X-Files", "Back from the Dead", and "Runnin' up on Ya". Because all of these songs and many others are not on this album, the title is definitely not fitting. The same goes for Everlast. From the album cover to the choice of songs, this album falls short of representing what HOP and Everlast have given to the hip hop game. Sadly, someone approved to make this item public before putting together a worthy compilation.

This CD is extremely difficult to get, but well worth any amount of effort. I'm addicted to both Irish music and Christmas music, so this CD is made in Heaven for me (or anyone, for that matter). Frankie Gavin's talent is awe-inspiring, and it's on fine display here.

The CD is a fairly even mix of religious and secular pieces. The religious songs are played very sweetly and lovingly, while the secular numbers are a party waiting to happen. There's even an original composition of Frankie's, The Holly Reel (and it's wonderful). I don't think he has a wrong note in him.

This is a beautiful Christmas gift from a truly magnificent artist.
