Product Description
Elegy For Johnny Cash is a different kind of studio album from Jackie Leven, containing elements of Americana, Hip-Hop, and the picking of bright shiny objects from many other music genres, all wrapped up in great and unique style by the master musician that is Jackie Leven . The title track, 'Elegy For Johnny Cash' comes from Jackie's appreciation of the beautiful last records of Johnny Cash, as recorded by Rick Rubin. Says Jackie, 'I admired the artist Johnny Cash but did not particularly engage with him until I heard these fantastic recordings on which he is able to take any song and sing it with such beauty and courage that it breaks your heart. My song, 'Elegy', which I sing as if I was Johnny Cash, imagines his last singing performance as he passes from this world to the next, and he gives us one last picture of his life'. 5 out of 5 stars Kirkcaldy's bravest son..........2005-12-12

After 30-odd years in the music business passing through numerous musical incarnations, the `Elegy For Johnny Cash` is easily one of Jackie Leven's best albums.

For those who liked his material from the late 90's `Museum Of Childhood`, `In Memory Of My Mother`, `King Of The Barley` and `No Honour In This Love` all carry a similar depth of feeling to the best of the songs from the `Argyll Cycle` era. While the title track, `All The Rage` and `Vibration White Finger` seem to be taking Jackie in an interesting new musical direction.

After living in Berlin and Madrid back in the 70's, Jackie still seems to have the inclination to go and `embed` himself in hotspots to help the music along (this time it was recording part of the album in the Lebanon) but fortunately he kept his head down and came back with one part of what is a great album.

Slainte!
