Customer Reviews:
GREAT CD!!!.......2007-05-15
This is my 2nd favorite CD of all time (my 1st being Hair of the Dog's Parting Glass). Being an avid traditional Irish music lover, I'd hear alot of the bar tunes before and they are done to perfection!! I have had only a slight exposure to the IRA songs before this CD, but Hair of the Dog definitely gave me an education with this CD. I have found some new favorite songs thanks to this CD!!!
Release the beast.......2007-01-20
This is a great collection of Irish pub fair that will have everyone in car the singing. This is the fourth copy of this I have purchased to give as a gift.
A personal favorite.......2003-07-16
This 1997 release is packed to the gills with traditional Irish songs performed with enthusiasm and style.
Hair of the Dog is a fun band. That's the simplest way to say it. They're not out there breaking new ground, nor are they striving to reinvent themselves as something other than they are -- a fun, lively, pub band full of heart and oodles of talent.
Optimally, you'll see this band live. It's obvious from their recordings, both of which are largely recorded in live venues, that they shine with an audience to bounce their energy right back at them.
Great Irish (-American) fun.......2003-04-28
Hair of the Dog is a wonderfully talented, technically skilled band musically, but it's really the energy they bring to performing that makes them so enticing. This album is a live collection, and represents some of the best-loved Irish songs, as well as some lesser-known tracks. It's hard to say who's having more fun, the band, or the audience...if you're Irish, step into the parlor, and bring your copy of "Release the Hounds!"

Hmmm. Do I smell phony reviews here ?.......2007-02-18
Quite a few avid fans (FIVE STARS) have gone out of their way to share their praise. That's nice.
But I notice that a significant number of these five-star reviewers have not reviewed a single CD, DVD, or book by any other recording artist, director or author. Nope. Just this one CD.
Now I'm just a Kid, but when I see folks spouting about how this is their favorite band and asking "when will they tour" and "why isn't music like this played on the radio", and all that stuff, I'd have to think that these are the kind of folks who also like to tell the world about all the other things they like (or dislike) and want to see more of (or less of). They seem to have strong opinions, you know ?
But apparently this one CD is the only work to move many of them in that direction. Isn't that strange ?
Now, I don't think they're all phony reviews. Maybe they're not all made-up people either. Maybe one or two were 'friends of friends', or whatnot, wanting to say something nice. Maybe they were friends who even liked the music.
But look at this one - "Release the Hounds is simply unbelievable. This music brings rock back to the forefront by using the guitar in a way that can only be compared to the more seasoned rockers of the past 30 years. This collection has both great hard guitar songs ..., as well as harmony songs ... that prove these guys can diversify their talents and still put out a CD worthy of everyone's listening." Now that smells real bad to me. That smells just like advertising copy. And there are a few others like that.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. It doesn't really matter too much to me.
Still, I had to counter the reviewer who said "Best new rock group since the Beatles" with my vote of ONE STAR. I mean really, that's just stupid. Even to a Kid.
Please............2006-06-27
one must be brain dead to give this anything more than 1 star. I personally feel sorry for the 690 folks that actually laid out $$$ for this. While the band may have been good live (I dunno), absolutely zero of that translated to disc. Sucks, period.
No.......2006-05-18
This is the worst. So bad. So. So. So. So. So bad. Overnight is good. This is not god. This is bad. More badness per minute than possibly anything else. Ever.
Wow...........2006-04-10
I didn't think it was possible for music to be this bad, but I've been proven wrong. These guys seem to lack a basic knowledge of how to play their instruments, the lyrics are trite, and the vocals of the lead singer make the preverbial "cat stuck in a blender" sound like a pleasant audio alternative. Unless you are into sadism stay away from this one, your ears will thank you.
Could they be any worse? It's not possible........2005-09-17
Anybody who likes this music is, without question, an idiot. Any person who would purchase it could only be described as a waste of space. I was interested in the Boondock Saints after seeing Overnight, an excellent film about a complete egomaniac. I wanted to see if their talent warranted the puffed up ego. The only talent here is that the band is able to make sounds we recognize as music. There is zero creativity in any of the songs' lyrics. There is zero creativity in the lame attempt at late-nineties hard rock. In fact, as lame and uncreative as a great portion of late-nineties hard rock is, these guys manage to be the absolute lamest I've ever heard. I won't say their the lamest of all time, only because I haven't heard every band, but they are the lamest band I've ever heard. They are interesting to listen to, if only because of the fact that they are so crappy. It makes you wonder about the people who signed them. This album sold 690 copies and then was dropped by the record label. That is pure comedy right there. If you love this album, there are 690 people out of 6,500,000,000 that share your opinion. And that opinion is an unequivically stupid one. One reviewer said if you like Nickelback, you'll definitely like these guys. I don't like Nickelback, but I will concede that they are worlds above these guys. So if you don't like Nickelback, you can rest assured that these guys are perhaps 162 times worse than Nickelback. And if you do like Nickelback, you can rest assured that these guys are still 162 times worse than Nickelback. To spell that out for the idiots that bought the cd, if you don't like Nickelback, you'll hate these guys, and if you do like Nickelback you'll hate these guys. That is what is called a lose-lose situation. If you already have the cd, you can hang it in your garden to scare off birds, or you can just snap it in half and cut your losses. If you like the cd, that is an unfortunate position to be in. You can hang yourself in your garden to scare off birds, or you can just snap yourself in half and cut your losses. No doubt this review will garner many "no" votes with regard to its usefullness. These will of course come from any one of the 690 birdbrains that bought the cd and now scour the planet looking for each other in hopes of reproducing.

Man, I saw one of their shows for the first time in a smaller town, and they had the whole town rocking. People were coming out of the woodwork. I felt so alive, and I plan to see everyone of their shows. I'm on the mailing list for crying out loud. Mike D....ROCK ON'
