Customer Reviews:
Some Vaults' are best left undisturbed. .......2005-09-07
Having resurfaced in the early 21st century, Simon Finn (SF) created a VERY VERY good psych-folk cd in 2005 called 'MAGIC MOMENTS'.
Unfortunately, this resurrected offering from 1970 called 'PASS THE DISTANCE' has nothing going for it. If SF had a large body of work to compare this to perhaps the moniker "for completists only" would justify it's existance. Considering SF has only 1 other cd as reference (made 35yrs later!), well, you get the idea.
For some you'll find a track or two worthy of inclusion on some future anthology (perhaps), but nothing here struck my fancy. The listener has nothing really to relate to because the artist gives no insight, emphatic or otherwise, into his personality or musical intent, other than being "troubled".
I enjoy listening to the inner/outer musical musings of the most eccentric types, but without context who cares?
The music is unfocused guitar with minimal psychedelic back-up, passable vocals sporting lyrics which ramble with no discernable storyline (ie structure)and little rhyme, however strange.
You know something is amiss when extensive liner notes (written by David Tibet of Current93/World Serpent) about the artist's "sensitivity" spends it's ink praising Mr Finn's "vision(s)", trying to bridge the "comprehension" vacuum sucked dry by the music itself. The mysterious and sinister circumstances surrounding one of the tracks,'Jerusalem' only adds to my frustration, I don't need any HYPE, thank you! The actual cd just sounds like the work-in-progress of an inexperienced songster (sorry Mr Tibet).
I'm not surprised it had very limited release back then.
That being said, 35 years later, Simon Finn's 2005 'Magic Moments' is everything 'Pass The Distance' is'nt. Much much better (check out my review).
Many artists exist that make music born of strange orbits and psyche poetics, and do it much better with more consistancy. Check out Damien Youth, Copernicus, or Paul Roland for starters.

incredible album.......2004-11-12
I don't know who Simon Fin is, but I really scare to listen Jurusalem in the midnight. It makes me cry and being wakeful. His emotion is so deep and strange that makes me cry. He is like to trying to play a broken instrument and sing the sadest voice with dreamy keyboard and steel guitar. You will feel yourself in a psychedelia. Is he crazy? Is he going to be heaven? When you fall in love with it, you will listen it all night.
Pass the Years.......2004-07-02
This is by no means a perfect album, but perhaps all the more captivating for its flaws, it is raw, it is real, it touches an emotional place that by and large psychedlic music doesn't touch. It is amazing how quickly this album has become a highlight of my collection, it is unfortunate it has taken so long to get the rerelease it has so greatly deserved. A must buy for any fan of pschedelic rock. This is a gem of a one time effort.
