About the Artist
Since Nancy White performs mainly in Canada, we'll tell you she gets compared to Tom Lehrer, Christine Lavin, Edith Piaf and Tom Paxton. Cabaret singer, mother of two, concert and folk festival performer, she's also recorded "Gaelic Envy and Other Torch Songs" and "Songs of the Spanish Civil War and Other Struggles". 5 out of 5 stars A "must-listen-to" CD about motherhood.......2004-01-19

If you're feeling more than a little hormonal (either pregnancy hormonal or new mom hormonal -- in fact, any type of hormonal will do), this CD will lift your spirits tremendously. It's funny and it's honest, speaking the truth about the best and worst days of motherhood.

BTW -- I had the pleasure of interviewing Nancy White for a Canadian pop culture book about women I wrote a few years ago, and found her to be every bit as funny and brilliant in real life as she is on this CD, and that's really saying something.

The comparison to Tom Lehrer is apt, though I was thinking more Louden Wainwright III. Ms. White's collection of songs here hits on a wide array of experiences with small children, and the results vary from hilarious to moving. Despite the occasional local references, this album plays as well in Denver as in Toronto. This was a gift to us over the holidays from a good friend, and we plan on picking one up for our next friends who have a baby.
