Editorial Reviews
From the Artist
"As I've been writing the music for this record over the course of the last year [2003], I've been conducting a music program at City of Hope, an internationally-renowned cancer research and treatment center near my home in Los Angeles, California. Between tour dates, I drive my van full of harps there. We have workshops and concerts for patients and staff, and I play my harp in the various rooms, halls, and treatment areas. In the spirit of that inspiration, I dedicate this record to City of Hope, and all the good people who are part of it. --Lisa Lynne

my niece loved it!.......2007-06-28
Bought as a gift for my 4-year old niece for her birthday, this CD stays in my car for her use when I'm driving. She loves it and asks for individual princesses and we sing along. I don't know how many times we've listened to it already (4 or 5, I imagine), but I anticipate many more. It's a heck of a lot easier than trying to remember the words on my own. :)
A Perfect Princess CD.......2007-03-30
I want to start off by saying that if you're looking to buy only one Disney Princess CD, this is the one to get. This CD contains 12 tracks featuring 7 princesses (at the time that this CD was made, Mulan did not yet exist, in fact, the Disney Princess line itself did not exist). Unlike many other Disney Princess CDs, this one contains a *complete* collection of princess songs. That means that all the songs that any Princess actually sings is on this CD. No, not every song from every Princess movie is on here, but I wouldn't expect them to be, nor do I think that they'd even fit onto this CD. Something that's nice about this CD compared to some of the other Disney Princess CDs is that there is no subversive advertising. That means no mediocre songs from Cinderella V or the Little Mermaid X are on it. There aren't even any songs sung by non-Princesses, all the songs that are sung partly by others are at least partially sung by a Princess as well. One of the most interesting things about the album, in my opinion, is that it contains 'Home' by Susan Egan as Belle. In Beauty and the Beast, Belle has no large solo songs of her own, so they included this track from the original 1994 cast recording of the Beauty and the Beast Broadway musical. This addition makes the CD more interesting and does not at all detract from the quality of the CD.
Again, if you are looking to buy only one Disney Princess CD or just find the best one, I would encourage you to buy this one. The selection of songs is complete and there isn't any annoying, mediocre album filler. I highly recommend this Disney Princess CD.
LOVE IT!!!.......2007-01-05
Bought this CD for Christmas for my 5 year old and we love it!! A great buy!!!!!
my favorite princess cd .......2005-01-15
i love this cd! my dad got it for me for my birthday 3 years ago and i still love it
Perfect for a Princess.......2004-08-24
I bought this cd for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She LOVES it! She asks me to play it every day and we both sing along to all of the songs. She has even picked up on the songs that she didn't know before she received it. I love it because now she is more interested in listening to the cd and dancing with me in the house than watching a video. In quiet times, she likes to sit on my lap and look at the pictures in the liner notes. The recordings are beautiful, it is the one children's cd that I can listen to over and over. If you have a little girl who loves princesses, this is definitely worth the money.

Lovely, cathartic harp music for healing and hoping.......2006-10-02
Softly bewildered broken chords break the silence, echoing the way patients must often feel during the odyssey of serious or chronic illness... Then they modulate into a dreamy, hopeful tune in a major key, with a steady, comforting pulse of lower instruments below, nudging the listener on to accept a new routine of life that may lead to recovery or at least peace. "Hopes and Dreams" is another album of lush and gentle beauty by New Age harpist Lisa Lynne and her ensemble of talented instrumentalists. Here, she is joined in her original compositions by George Tortorelli on bamboo flutes, whistles and recorders, Nick Brown on guitars and bouzouki, Stephanie Fife on cello, Jem Moore on hammered dulcimer, co-producer Gil Morales on bass and keyboards, and John Wakefield on bells, chimes and hand percussion. The rich, nuanced, laid back sound they produce is truly calming and uplifting--the perfect, nurturing atmosphere in which to step out of the world of daily cares and seek healing or resolution. In the liner notes for this album, Lynne writes: "On my days home between tour dates, I drive my van full of harps [to City of Hope, a Los Angeles cancer treatment center]. We have workshops and concerts for patients and staff, and I play my harp in the various rooms, halls and treatment areas. I am humbled beyond words at the courageous and brilliant people that I have encountered at this place of hope and healing. They are the inspiration for this record, as most of this music has been written during my time there." Music born of love and offered in that spirit--who could ask for more? For other helpful, healing music, try Lynne's other recordings, and also those of harpists Hilary Stagg and Kim Robertson, and flutist Kay Gardner (especially her musical healing journey, "The Rainbow Path").
Soothing..........2004-10-09
Composed at the City of Hope Cancer Center near Los Angeles, this music was developed during Lisa Lynne's frequent visits to the wards, chemotherapy rooms, and intensive care unit. Personally, I find it amazing that a busy musician would take the time to play to patients, helping to create a few moments of peaceful reflection in what is otherwise a traumatic process.
Lynne uses the Celtic harp, in consort with cello, dulcimer, acoustic guitar, various flutes, bells, and chimes. Most of the woodwind duties are carried by Lynne's partner George Tortorelli, who really does a lot of the album work, and should get equal billing. Nobody turns in virtuoso performances, but that's not what the album is about. Instead, the effect is meant to be melodic and soothing, and that's what it is.
The impact of the composition is what is important to the players, not the composition itself. Something that often gets put down as 'mood music.' But in this context I'm will to cut Lynne some slack. I do find listening relaxing and comfortable, and I don't have to mind that it isn't as complex as many of the composer/player efforts to which I am drawn. I don't mind relaxing every once in a while.
More delightful music by Lisa Lynne!.......2003-10-21
This was my 2nd CD purchase of Lisa Lynne. I previously purchased Moonsongs and couldn't wait to get this one. This one did not disappoint. Just as beautiful as the other one. Relaxing, but not boring. Great music to have dinner by, riding in the car, a romantic evening or even quieting a baby. This is sure to become one of your favorites.
Very pleasant.......2003-06-07
Another exquisite musical work from New Earth Records, Lisa Lynne's Hope and Dreams is a soothing and beautiful composition. It guides us from the very first notes into a realm of harps and subtle melody, turning our attention away from the business of life towards soft nuances of being. At times it is uplifting and ethereal, reminiscent of the gentle light of the sun at dawn, illuminating a delicate landscape. At others, melancholic, tugging at the tender parts of our heart that still holding sadness, it coaxes out soft tears from the hidden folds of our being, so we can heal. New age music of true quality, perfect for those quiet and reflective moments or for gazing tenderly into a loved one's eyes

Wry, laconic blues by West Side Chicago Blues Master.......2000-09-13
The revival of Rooster Blues Records had seen a spurt of activity as the label has reissued some albums and issued several new ones. Among the latest releases is Eddie C Campbell's Hopes & Dreams, a welcome release from the veteran of the Chicago West Side scene. Among those who came up with Otis Rush and Magic Dam, Campbell's straightforward, thoughtful guitar with his judicious use of reverb is evocative of Magic Sam, while his laconic singing and pacing of his performances provide his music with a recognizable, distinctive sound. His performances are often witty and thoughtful and a welcome change from the relentless blazing fretwork of others. His approach lends believability when he sings "I didn't mean a word I said," on "Did I Hurt You". Based on the Stevie Wonder "Superstitious" riff, "Geese in the Ninny Bow (Hey!)", is a bit too long, although the horn players get a chance to stretch out over the groove. Much better is a terrific slow blues, "You Worry Me", which has a nice piano spot from the legendary Ernest Lane (of Ike Turner and Robert Nighthawk bands) before Campbell takes his solo. He is a bit upbeat about the "Cool Cool Mama," which has the flavor of a laid back reworking of a Freddie King blues, as he celebrates this somewhat sassy lady. Old friend Billy Boy Arnold joins him for some reminiscences of past days on the acoustic duet, "Those Were the Days," and has a harp solo to "Lost Soul." "Spend" is a medium tempo rocker that anyone who feels like money is burning a hole in one's pocket can identify with. Campbell closes with "Cougar," his rendition of Freddie King's instrumental "San-Ho-Zay." The production is first-rate with longtime drummer Robert `Huckleberry Hound' Wright anchoring the rhythm section. While there are couple of lesser tracks, this is another solid effort from Campbell.

Disappointment. "Air" is the jewel.......2006-09-30
I instantly fell in love with "Air" and bought the cd on that song's merit. But the rest of the cd is only average. They remind me a little of the Fiery Furnaces, a band that I also find extremely hit or miss.
Don't expect the rest of the cd to be as solid as "Air." The overall sound is low-key (which isn't a bad thing) and unremarkable.
Air is definitely the best. The rest is mostly harmless........2004-08-02
Based on hearing "Air" on the radio (KEXP, online - a Seattle and internet treasure) - an excellent song, with style and some substance, I bought the album. Unfortunately the rest of the album doesn't really hold up to the promise and even Air doesn't have the sophistication I hoped it did from background radio listenings. "Air is only there, where I used to care" - not a great poetic lyric of our time.
The various songs are credited to different band members, and those by Maria May (inc. Air) work the best for me (1, 4, 6).
Overall, an ok album, with some merit, but not likely to stay in my listening pile for more than a few weeks.
Incredible Pop!.......2004-04-21
It starts with "Air", probably one of the best break-up songs ever, and never lets up. Every song is catchy, memorable and infinitely hummable. The different vocalists (and songwriters) could lead to a disjointed mess but everything seems to flow smoothly into pop heaven. Slightly melancholy and blissful and beautiful to behold. Ends with the best McCartney song you've never heard, "Even Now". Built with acoustic guitars, pianos, strings, and harmonies and like the perfect pop song, this CD is a little too short, leaving you with a longing for a little bit more.
Not the Cap'n Jazz offshoot.......2004-02-06
This is not the Cap'n Jazz off shoot band Owls this is The Owls! Hailing from Minneapolis and quietly blowing your mind. Great pop with the sounds of mellower Velvet Underground, the female voices of Stereolab and a few of the Beatles thrown in.

Lovely and Relaxing.......2007-05-24
I wanted some relaxing piano music like I hear when someone in the next flat is playing for their own enjoyment or when I go into Nordstrom and someone is playing on a grand piano that flows throughout the whole store.
If you can imagine a summer evening with piano music wafting in from your window, this is it -- comfortable, romantic and relaxing.

Their variety of material has plenty to thrill bluegrass audiences.......2005-11-25
Playing Time - 33:44 -- Together since 2002, The Linville Ridge Band takes their name from a significant geographic landmark near their western North Carolina home which is also known for a rich traditional and bluegrass music heritage. Preserving this heritage is one of the goals of band members Aaron Ramsey (guitar, dobro), David Wiseman (mandolin), Perry Woodie (banjo, dobro), and Michael Ramsey (bass). Three of the musicians had previously performed for a decade in the band, Damascus Road Acoustic Gospel. Playing his Lebeda mandolin, Aaron won the 2002 Merlefest mandolin contest.
All four are snazzy pickers who also share the lead vocal responsibilities on 2-3 songs apiece. While none of them have simply killing knockout voices, they capitalize on their individual vocal strengths to arrange each song for maximum benefit. Also, more emotion seems apparent when a songwriter sings his own compositions as Mike Ramsey does on "Lift Him Up" and "When Uncle Came Home from the War." The latter, sung with his son Aaron, is a hard-hitting ballad which tells the story of Mike's great-uncle returning from World War II with some provocative questions about the sacrifices and value of war. Perry Woodie penned four originals for this project, and he sings lead on the opener "I've Lost the Will to Try" which is a good song with the potential to be covered by a national bluegrass act. Woodie's "Time is a Healer" is a contemporary bluegrass composition with some good insight and advice when loves goes wrong. Woodie also wrote the flashy instrumental "Spanish Oak," a high-test offering that allows the banjo, mandolin and guitar players plenty of room to demonstrate their adept, nimble-fingered skill. Some of the songs on "Hopes and Dreams" could've been embellished with a little hot fiddling, either by Wiseman or a guest artist. They take this approach on "Old Joe Clark" by featuring David's fiddling, as well as enlisting the support of their friend and octogenarian Herb Lambert on mandolin.
The Linville Ridge Band performs primarily in North Carolina, but they also occasionally travel further afield to appear throughout adjacent southeastern states. With a variety of traditional, contemporary, and Gospel material in their repertoire, the group offers plenty to thrill audiences. The album also confirms that bluegrass is deep within their hearts.
