fRoots Magazine, 2001
"An acoustic, insightful delight in the tradition of Seeger and Guthrie."
Product Description
Miracles DO happen! Although singer-songwriter and musical activist Pat Humphries created a stir in the folk world with her first album, 1992's "Same Rain," it took nine years before the release of "Hands," its follow-up. Then, more than a year after "Hands'" January 2001 release, the CD suddenly spent three days as the best-selling CD for Amazon.com, the Internet's most popular music store. What triggered the rush of sales was a feature on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" about Pat's composition, "Swimming to the Other Side," which first appeared on her debut and then in a re-recorded version (broadcasted by NPR) on "Hands." This song of hope and determination had become, like Pat's "Common Thread" and "Never Turning Back," a ubiquitous folk anthem sung at peace and social justice rallies and demonstrations around the world and was translated into seven languages. Pat Humphries is no longer a secret in her homeland. No less an authority than Pete Seeger called Pat's songs "some of the best I've heard in 50 years," and the material on "Hands" validates Pete's praise. "No Sweat" and "Cold Cup of Water" respectively examine the plight of workers in Third World sweat shops and migrant workers here in the States. Social issues of gay and straight parenting are addressed in "I'll Be There" and "People Love"; women's rights are the subject of Pat's cover versions of "Bread & Roses" and "We Were There." Pat wrote "Bound for Freedom" for a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and bears the central message, "We are one and we are all." The CD's pro-labor title track was written but never released by Phil Ochs before his 1976 suicide. These rallying cries of optimism and activism are sung warmly and without affectation by Pat, who also plays guitar on most tracks. She is accompanied by the "world music" pioneer David Amram (woodwinds, percussion), renowned fiddler Jay Ungar, and veteran folk duo Kim and Reggie Harris on backing vocals; the CD's producer, Abby Newton, contributes cello to "Swimming to the Other Side," among other songs.

Customer Reviews:
classic music CD.......2007-06-27
The CD was well represented by the clips on the Amazon website and came in time for our event. We did have a problem with the charge but that was taken care of promptly. Great service.
Good for beginners.......2007-02-15
It is an excellent collection of classical music. I would recommend this CD if you have a friend who don't like classical music, since it has the most beautiful overtures and portions of famous artists. If you are a Classic Music Savvy you probably will not be impressed by it, unless you want to play the CD as background music in a friends gathering.
Great mix.......2007-02-14
All the best composers! Over an hour of music. A samble of the greatest pieces.
Good for first-timer.......2007-01-22
This is the first time I have ever bought a classical music CD and I was very pleased with this one. It has a good variety of selections. I would buy it again.

Customer Reviews:
something to have.......2007-03-14
These CD's are filled with all the awesome relaxing songs for the evening when you need it. It is just one of those must have items in your CD collection.
Excellent Music.......2007-02-19
This album was a "try and see" purchase but I love it. It makes great dinner music, great music to drift off to sleep with, or just nice background filler during social events needing a softer tone. It is not all solo piano music if that s what you are after; the other instruments blend very well however and don't challenge the piano playing. It is a piano album after all!
buy now.......2006-09-01
Want to know why I think the piano is the best musical instrument ever invented? Because no matter how the piano is played, it will always sound good. Whether the music is fast, slow, quiet or loud, it ALWAYS delivers with an appealing sound. This is something you need to buy.
Lovely.......2006-02-22
This is a beautiful calming cd. The playing is excellent and the pieces are well chosen.
Aesthetically Pleasing.......2005-09-14
I simply love piano music. If you're looking to relax, enjoy a peaceful time, then you must check out this album. If you truly enjoy piano music, this album is by far one of the best you can purchase.
As it says....it is the "Most Relaxing Piano Album in the World...Ever..." Well, I haven't listened to all piano albums in the world, but I don't need to, this one is just perfect for me, and I think you will agree!
I would say the pianists' are extremely accomplished. At times, I would admit-it's a bit 'spine tingling'!

Customer Reviews:
Selection is not good.......2006-07-27
This tape is short and the melodies are not engaging for kids. It was waste of money.
Baby Einstein: Traveling Melodies .......2006-02-23
Hello everyone,
This CD is great!
My son has ADD & when we are out & he gets Anxious I put this CD in his portibale CD player.
It seems to help him calm down & better cope with things.
I think that every parent should have this CD that has a special needs child.
Thanks so much for putting it online for people to buy.
Thanks Again,
A Greatfull Mom
Saved My Sanity.......2005-11-03
My husband and I are musicians so I inwardly groaned when we were given this CD as a gift--I'd rather play the originals rather than some synthesized kiddie version. However, on a recent road trip we got desperate when our colicky son would not stop screaming. We popped this in the CD player and it calmed him down immediately. I swear, it's like aural crack for babies. We now play it at bedtime to help calm him down and it still works. You may not love this CD, but your baby will.
A Very Pleasant CD for Little Ones in the Car.......2005-11-01
I picked this up for driving around music and was very pleasantly surprised. Quite enjoyable (and my son seems to like it too!) and perfect for exactly what it says--traveling around. Easy listening and could possibly make your child smarter, great!

Product Description
Camp Lo is back! The Sonny Cheeba and Geechie Suede duo return with their highly anticipated album called "Black Hollywood", produced exclusively by the legendary Ski Beatz. Fans of Camp Lo's 1996 debut classic "Uptown Saturday Night" album will surely be satisfied by the group's return with an updated version of their infectious Bronx soul that the group is known for and their lyrics that consist partly of Blaxploitation-style Dadaist slang. Making their first appearance on "The Great White Hype" soundtrack, their smooth party song single "Coolie High" was a minor hit, peaking at #25 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart. The first major exposure came with the release of their second single, the upbeat and horn driven "Luchini aka This Is It." The song became a crossover hit in 1997, breaking into the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, and reaching the top 5 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. The duo released their debut album in January 1997. The effort was widely acclaimed, praised for their light accessible content and their smooth, funk and jazz inspired production. They went on to release a sophomore album called "Let's Do It Again" in 2002. Jump ahead to 2007 and be prepared for the arrival of a new Camp Lo, produced by the one and only Ski Beatz. Previously known just as Ski, Ski Beatz is best known for his work with Jay-Z on the album "Reasonable Doubt." He's also produced tracks for AZ, Lil' Kim, Fat Joe, Foxy Brown and of course he did almost the entire Camp Lo debut album "Uptown Saturday Night."

He's also produced tracks for AZ, Lil' Kim, Fat Joe, Foxy Brown and of course he did almost the entire Camp Lo debut album Uptown Saturday Night.

Gimme More Gimme More.......2007-07-31
AAwww at last, my boys are BACK! A little of the old, a little of the new... New beats yet the same soulfull swagger! The album was long overdue but well worth the wait. Big ups to the LO! This is definately a keeper!
i was feelin' it........2007-07-26
production is pretty good on this joint to me. it got a real hip-hop feel to it. like 82 afros...that's dope to me. soul fever...that's hip-hop. suga willies revenge? y'all don't feel that? or the drums and other samples in jack n jill? money clap is ill also..."i'm a grinch for the green, in a trench lookin' mean/ and my herb got a remarkable stench when it steam"/... black hollywood is a decent track with a decent beat. zoom takes you back to the early 80's...i liked the way they flip that joint also. i don't mind bumpin' this album at all. it's got some flavor to it.
It is officially time to give up.......2007-07-26
Camp lo is back on the scene again to give the industry another weak album. The only thing you can say about this group is they are consistnt with putting out garbage. Uptown saturday night was a fantastic album and is a classic to this day. But the follow up releases display weak lyrics, subpar beats, and some horrible hooks. I tried to like the album but it just didn't work out. Luckily, i got the album for free so I'll just delete it instead of using it as a coaster.
Return of the Lo.......2007-07-25
Camp Lo's long awaited return sets the record straight once and for all that their first album (the classic Uptown Saturday Night) was not a fluke after all. Many people were disappointed by their sophomore effort, Let's Do it Again, but Black Hollywood comes strong to rebuff the nay sayers. Black Hollywood is a collection of songs that every hip hop act tries to do (the club banger, the song for the ride, the weed song, the song for the ladies, the I got money song, and the song that represents where they from) but they accomplish all this while sounding fresh regardless of their obvious love and belonging to the old school. Lo sounds right at home flipping their dense blaxploitation slang and liquid flows over tight production by Skibeatz (aka Ski producer of UTSN, and several songs off Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt and In My Lifetime).
The Good: This album just rolls! None of the songs really sound the same, and Lo's flows are catchy as always. Chiba's rap style has picked up a lot of alliteration lately. On "Money Clap" he casually runs lines like, "I say Morning! Morning! Money! Money! Money! Give em Molotov cocktails for breakfast/Bunnies, Bunnies bouncing/Sin City citizen/I'm Count Mac-ula"
Suede takes control in the title track "Black Hollywood" which announces the return of the Lo with that 70s sound: "Black Ceasar bumblebee bonita a billion dollar theatre/ Lo premiering in surround sound cinematically glaring/ Click! Click! Flash! Flash! Frosted Flakes on the frames/ It's addictive, when you know the world is screaming your name".
The album kicks off strong with "Posse from the Bronx" and "82 Afros", and the 80s style beats on "Pushahoe" and "Zoom" are a nice throwback. Even the 90s have become a nostalgic sound on the dark storytelling track "Jack and Jill", which sounds like a beat from 92-93. Ganja Lounge could be one of the best songs advocating narcotics that I've heard in a few years. Sweet Claudine closes out the album with such a great feeling.
The Bad: The only weak tracks on the album are "Material" (obviously aimed at the ladies), and Soul Fever - but I know there will be a lot of people who really like this song. My problem with it is that it sounds like what Lo thinks the audience expects from them.
Overall the production of each song is strong, sometimes the beats sound a bit thin, but mostly dope. The problem is the Executive Production. There is some ham-fisted production on songs that seem to end suddenly with a quick fade out, or songs that appeared on the Fort Apache Mixtape have not been remixed so they still carry the beat of another song on the first two seconds. Some of the songs sound somewhat incomplete and the beat is left to ride without vocals, or they lack a proper chorus and many of them run under 3 minutes. The entire album is just under 36 minutes long which seems short considering fans have been starving for some new material from the Lo. That combined with the fact that 5 of the 12 songs on this album were on the Fort Apache mixtape, make this album slightly underwhelming for the fans who have kept up with their career. It also begs the question, what happened to the song "Ticket 4 Two" that we heard on Skibeatz Myspace page, and the 9th Wonder produced "Milky Lowa"? In interviews we had heard that the third album would be titled "A Piece of the Action", so it makes me wonder if this album was somehow rushed out so as to ree up for the next album.
In the future it would be nice to see Lo try to round out these short songs, perhaps with guest stars (Only Ski and Jungle Brown make guest appearances on the mic) or by adding another verse themselves.
Overall, I'm pleased with this album. It's consistently good throughout the whole thing. It can't outshine Uptown Saturday Night, but it does help Lo escape it's shadow and make some quality material. This album will be especially better for those of you who never heard the Fort Apache mixtape. The Lo has returned!
"P-P-P-P-Posse from the Bronx is HERE!" (3.5/5).......2007-07-25
Camp Lo's third album, 2007's "In Black Hollywood," dropped quickly and quietly this week to little fanfare. This is too bad, because Camp Lo is really one of the most interesting and unique hip hop crews around, and they also made one of the finest albums of the last ten years in their 1997 debut Uptown Saturday Night. Unfortunately, they have sustained a career of putting out exactly one album every five years, so ten years later they have yet to top that classic effort. Uptown Saturday Night was a party album that succeeded due to the incredible style brought by Camp Lo's MCs Sonny Cheeba and Geechie Suede, as well as the producer Ski, the producer responsible for Original Flavor and Jay-Z's debut Reasonable Doubt, who produced the entire album. They brought a majestic, rich, and dense sound that nostalgically celebrated the blaxploitation era, with totally original sounds taking from jazz, funk, soul, and even international music in places. As MCs, Cheeba and Suede are definitely a little more style than substance, but this sets them apart. They use a huge amount of old-fashioned slang, so much at some points that their verses can be indecipherable. But when they rap back and forth to each other about made-up characters with disco slang, it's sure to bring a smile to your face. "Black Hollywood" finds Camp Lo paired once again with Ski, who produces each track.
The album's brief at 12 tracks, each averaging about two-and-a-half minutes (none even approach 4 minutes), altogether clocking in at about 35 minutes. But that aside, the album is structured pretty similarly to their debut. The production takes from a bygone era, and Ski's beats are creative and clever throughout. It's so much fun to hear Camp Lo rapping over great beats once again, and for the majority of the time, it really works. However, it's pretty clear that this just doesn't have the same energy as their debut. Geechie and Cheeba don't rap as fast or joyfully as they once did, and the level of creativity is also lower. A few tracks are dragged down by some pretty average subject matter, even though with their immense style it becomes bearable. With one or two exceptions, the album doesn't really recapture the magic of "Luchini aka This Is It," "Sparkle," or "Coolie High," but it's truly enjoyable anyway. The one-of-a-kind Camp Lo product is something I always really liked, and it's in full supply on "Black Hollywood."
The album starts with the upbeat "Posse From the Bronx," a head-nodding, bass-heavy opener. The hook is great and it's a nice start. "82 Afros" is a stylish, standard Camp Lo cut with the nostalgic slang and flair that is their signature. I really like "Soul Fever," a happy and fast song with another nice hook that really evokes the spirit of Uptown Saturday Night. "Pushahoe" is okay but a little uninspired, but "Suga Willie's Revenge" is better, with a nice flute-laden beat and the classic Camp Lo flavor. "Jack N' Jill" feels a little distant, but I really like the production even if the verses aren't the best. I feel the same about "Material," the lyrics are pretty run-of-the-mill but the nice production and style make it okay. "Money Clap" is alright but fairly forgettable, and the reggae-fueled "Ganja Lounge" is fun. The best song without a doubt is "Black Hollywood," the title track. The beat on this one is incredible, surely bringing back memories of "Luchini" with the majestic, rich, and upbeat horn lines. I love the way Cheeba and Suede bring chemistry and energy to this song, this is the soulful, nostalgic Camp Lo at their finest. The short "Zoom" feels a little low-key, and the album closes on a great note with "Sweet Claudine," one of its best songs, a sweetly soulful, string-laced joint.
As a low-profile indie release, I don't expect this album to find much press, but it's one of my most enjoyed albums of 2007. Uptown Saturday Night is an album I keep on very regular rotation even today, and "In Black Hollywood" did not disappoint. The majestic sound and fun style is here, even if there is some subpar material in between. There's a drought of great rap music right now, but this is so refreshing in 2007, just like their debut was ten years ago. Don't expect to be blown away by this album, it's not spectacular, but to longtime fans of Camp Lo, definitely consider adding "In Black Hollywood" to the collection.

hmmmm.......2005-09-14
definitely not the best rendition of the popular suite.on the other hand, try finding another one.
stuff is edited,bludgeoned,rather.
tempos verge on comical.
rather disapointing,I really needed a nice version of the sugar plum faerie dance.
will probably stick to Wendy Carlos's,cheesy, runningly cheesy, blue cheese smelly, even,as it might be,still holds the original pace and campy pomp.
...not nuch of a cheese shop is it?
-it's fairly clean.
certainly not contaminated by Cleese!
Good Introduction but poor quality.......2005-09-12
This is a good introduction to Tchaikovsky for the beginner that gives a broad sampling of his work. Considering the price, it's a good value if someone is just wanting to begin exploring classical music or Tchaikovsky in particular.
However, the sound quality on this albumn is quite poor and there are much higher quality Tchaikovsky recordings available.
Tchaikovsky's Greatest Pieces of Music.......2000-09-04
Here are some of Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky's greatest works. His Nutcraker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty ballets are the most famous in the repoirtaire. The Symphony No. 5 and 6 are very excellent symphonic orchestrations. However, despite all the good stuff in here from the Russian master, the performers and conductors cannot surpass the beauty and artistry that such Tchaikovsky music masters as Dorati, Markevitch and Ormandy are. So if you want quality Tchaikovsky, get those conductor renditions. However, for a Tchaikovsky beginner, these pieces will get you hooked. This is a good cd to begin with for a Tchaikovsky listener. I am a Tchaikovsky listener ever since a friend recommended his glorious works to me. I am a Mozart fan but Tchaikovsky is undoubtedly the greatest Romantic composer of all time. He combines Russian melodies (Russian dances, mazurkas, waltzes) and gives them a definite Western romantic feel. He was friends with such noted Romantic composers as Camille Saint Saens, known to create such marvelous music of the era- Carnival of the Animals (now popular through Dysney) and Danse Macabre, to name only a small portion. Tchaikovsky also adored Mozart and although he is not exactly a Classical composer, he greatly admires the beauty of Mozart's works. Three cheers for Tchaikovsky !
great music poorely performed........1999-09-18
T. is my favourite composer but the interpretation on this CD is rather like a good effort in high shool
Great!.......1999-04-18
I think that Peter Tchaikovsky is one of the greatest composers ever. His Nutcracker suite and Capriccio Italien are wonderful pieces of music, as well as the rest of his pieces! This CD is definetly worth owning if you like classical music.

LIGHT MUSIC FOR US.......2007-06-27
I enjoyed all the CD's I've received so far. I used this one a couple times giving Reiki to someone and it is very appropriate and the timing is almost exact, from the time a treatment starts to the finish. Only one person mentioned that the stops between tracks were a little long. She wanted continuous sound, but thought it fit in with her treatment.

Life Is But A Dream..........2006-08-30
This CD is just pure magic. I know that is such a cliche' thing to say, but it really is. Of course, it really won't appeal to those people who are into EXTREME LIVING...whatever the hell that means, because to me, extreme living is living close to the soul, close to the spirit, close to the Invisible Source that makes and creates all things in and out of Itself.
Debussy was a composer who lived very close to this Invisible Stream. His music reflects a gentleness and yet a strength that flows throughout each composistion. The arrangements are dreamy and mystical and allows one to go into their "inner chamber" and pray in secret to the One who knows their heart as well as their soul.
As much as I love this CD, I tend not to listen to it in the car. I once listened to it while making a routine drive to Santa Monica. The CD stopped and I had somehow missed all of my exits and ended up in Ventura...talk about being in dreamland!
It's a great CD to put in your walkman and go to an outdoor cafe' where you can sip a cafe latte and write poems to an unknown lover whose face you cannot remember, but whose gentle breath is the scent of lavendar...oh, I wax poetic...so sorry...
If you are into quiet and stillness, get this CD...it's truly a breath of fresh air in this noisy, crowded, extreme world we have to be in but not necessarily of...
Peace & Blessings
Beautiful, dreamy.......2006-07-17
This music evokes both emotions and images of life waking up in spring, even being in a magical forest where anything can happen, or floating on clouds. You can just enjoy the music and let your imagination soar or the music can take you into that trance-like state where you can access creative ideas and creative solutions to any problems - and maybe they just dissolve of their own accord.
Fabulous collection !.......2005-09-13
If you like Debussy - whom I have heard called one of the progenitors of ambient music - you will love having his most inspiring and beautiful works together on one cd. These works are tranquil and serene, and yet they don't fade into the background - no matter what you are doing - because they are true art. When this cd is playing you can't help but listen and sigh. My cats love this cd, too.
An excellent introduction to Debussy and French music.......2005-06-30
Compilation CD's like this are an excellent first CD to purchase when first exploring a new composer or style of music ("Expressionism" in Debussy's case). And this Philip's "Set your Life to Music" collection is usually a sure and safe way to do that given their well thought-out selections, themes and quality recordings. This CD here contains many of the most popular, lyrical and enchanting works of the 19th-century French composer, Claude Debussy. The range of selections are diverse and satisfying: from his major solo piano works through his top chamber music (for 2-5 instruments) to the full-blown orchestral selections of great imagery and dreaminess that can transport one into another world of great serenity. (But, there are enough sudden changes in loudness and rhythm to upset any notions of perfect bliss and keep the daydreamer from falling asleep - hence the title, "for Daydreams" and not "for Bedtime" like in other offerings in this Philips' series) Regardless, this CD is an excellent introduction to Claude Debussy as well as being overall relaxing music to enrich one's life.
One interesting music history tidbit on Debussy that might interest the new listener: Even though Debussy did not like the label, his music was labeled "Expressionism" for the similarities to what the French artists like Monet were doing at the same time. In Debussy's case, his intent was to create "emotional impressions" with music that evoked specific moods and images in the mind - not unlike what the "impressionistic painters" were trying to do on canvas using pure color and form to evoke the fleeting, emotional moment of a landscape scene. "Prelude of the Afternoon of the Fawn" is a good example of this dreamy, lingering, emotive style of music.
Dream and Classical music are magic.......2005-02-16
This CD is one of the best among its classical collections. (bach for breakfast is my one of them) It puts me to any place I dream of whenever I listen to this cd. It usually brings me into outer space, or sometimes go to the sky or under the sea. You can also just sit back and relax while listening to the music. In addition, once I get mad or not calm enough, I just put this cd on and it cures my anger.
Classical music is magic.

Customer Reviews:
My favorite CD!.......2007-07-29
Van Cliburn is a master pianist, and this CD is pure listening enjoyment. I generally am not into clasical music, but this is fun. His working fingers convince me that they are not working. They are dancing, and they are having great fun. WONDERFUL!!
Music to my ears!.......2007-04-04
I bought this CD as a "treat" for my 16 year old son, who has just finished a homeschool music course for one of his electives. The last part of the course required listening to music from all the great composers, Baroque through contemporary periods, and identifying the more famous pieces by name and composer. He not only enjoyed the course, he now actually listens to this CD for his own enjoyment (when he's not playing 80's rock). What more could a mother ask for? (I'll tell you. I ask him to borrow it, it's lovely.)
Legend!.......2006-10-11
This is the greatest compilation of recordings ever made by the legendary pianist Van Cliburn. Although I am a cellist, I wear this cd out on a regular basis both at the office and home. I actually have an extra copy to play at the office. All of these recordings are superb in sound quality, performance and incredibly inspiring. The Schumann, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Liszt pieces are stellar and my personal favorites. I only wish there were dvd's with Cliburn's performances for those of us too young to have seen him perform live. CD is a must-have for any classical music lover's collection.
Probably the Best Piano CD ever!.......2006-04-13
If you like Piano music, this is the CD for you. Van Cliburn is at home with great songs that anyone will recognize. It is a masterfully performed set of songs for anyone.
An exquisite recording...read on!...........2005-03-13
Contains a masterful rendition of Beethoven's "Fur Elise", which happens to be one of my favorite classical pieces -- I have a smooth-jazz-pop-dance version of this tune on my own album, "Classy Cool: Classical Favorites, Made Cool" (Google keyword "Motionizer" to find it)

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah sold nearly 20,000 copies of its self-titled, self-released debut through the mail--and got nearly as many raves from enthusiastic MP3 bloggers, leading to an entry on Rolling Stone magazine's coveted Hot List. It's easy to feel skeptical, especially of an album that opens with a carnival barker imploring you to "Clap Your Hands!" But anyone that's felt the lure of bands such as the Arcade Fire and Interpol will want to keep listening. In vocalist Alec Ounsworth, this Brooklyn five-piece has found its own Jonathan Richman, a yelping madman that can sing things like "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth" with a straight face. Meanwhile, the music itself is typically unhinged and under-produced, taking an anything-goes approach that coasts on sheer exuberance and results in moments of profound clarity such as "Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away" and "Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood." A promising start but hold the applause. --Aidin Vaziri
Album Description
One of the biggest critical successes of the year, CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH is proving it can reach beyond the realm of critic darlings. With rapidly expanding commercial, specialty and college radio, sold out tour dates around the globe, and high profile television appearance s scheduled, this is going to be a fourth quarter must-have. And, the most impressive part of it all is that this band is doing it all WITHOUT A LABEL IN THE US. CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH is showing the music business how it should be done.

Striking if a bit uneven debut.......2007-07-05
With a voice reminiscent of Bends-era Thom Yorke and David Byrne, vocalist Alec Ounsworth's singing may be an acquired taste, but the music that accompanies him shouldn't be. True, some cynics may prefer to crank up their Eagles greatest hits albums instead, but it follows on the coattails of the likes of Arcade Fire, Joy Division, Modest Mouse, Talking Heads, Flaming Lips, Interpol, etc., in making pop out of less than sensible things in ways both beautiful and eccentric.
While it's not quite as good as the best from most of the aforementioned bands, it hits the mark far more often than it misses, and expect the album to played on repeat for several days after the first listen. Too few real songs for its own good (twelve tracks, but three of them are interludes/noodles), but almost all of the real songs are very good. The big two are the phenomenal "Details of the War" and the perfect melody of the eccentric "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth."
Best cuts: "Details of the War," "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth," "In This Home on Ice," "Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away," "Gimme Some Salt," "Heavy Metal," "Over and Over Again (Lost and Found)," "Is This Love?"
Tough critic.......2007-05-21
Can't believe I'm taking the time to write an online review. It's a testament to my fondness for this album. I first became aware of this band from the free CD that accompanies the British music mag "Uncut." When "Upon this tidal wave of young blood" came thru the speakers in my car, my scalp tingled and the hair on my arms stood on end. It was more than just hearing David Byrne reincarnate (can someone be "reincarnate" if they're not even dead yet?), this band's SOUND was an auditory revelation. I say "tough critic" because I hear some bands and sounds that strike my fancy here and there, but few that moved me the way CYHSY does. And few that instantly and completely renew my HOPE in the future of music. Some bands are like certain movies are for me--I judge people based on whether they "get it" when they hear or watch them. I will raise a critical eyebrow indeed at anyone that fails to immediately acknowledge the brilliance of this album. Nuf said.
Wow.......2007-03-22
Yes, I've read the reviews, yes, I've tried to get friends to listen to this, no, not many people I know personally like this band.
But I love them. Can Jeff Mangum sing? Some think no, but I think he can. Alec Ounsworth does this seriously whiney, yowly thing that I can't help but respond to. I've fallen in love with that vocal thing, also loving Wolf Parade for the same reason.
There are very few songs on this album that I don't still love with repeated (and I mean repeated) play. Only ones I don't like are the ones where he talk-sings the same damn phrase over and over. But I always like the part of the song that leads up to that, so I can't help but give even those songs 3 out of 5 stars.
I dig this band and bought the new album without hearing any other than Love Song No. 7.
Let's go get some icecream. . . .......2007-02-24
I cannot believe all of the rotten reviews I have read about this band. I LOVE THIS CD. The music is imaginative, insightful, and relaxing. The singers voice is as refreshing as a glass of cool lemonade/ice tea on a hot summer day. You cannot help but get lost in his transic guitar vibrations and the drummers rhythmic beats.
I'm gonna make a proposition: Lets go get some icecream and let the cool goddess rust away. 'Cuz that's what it's really all about. This music requires no forceful understanding, just a lazy afternoon, some good friends, and a finger to press play (or a reaching stick if your too lazy to get up!).
Live Happy:)

'You so different - In a different way'.......2007-01-12
Definitely refreshing!!! I'm not saying the lead singer has the voice of Dean Martin, or whoever it is you worship, but it's absolutely fantastic in its own orb of weirdness. The instrumental aspect is great, catchy, and w/good bass lines (and I love the harmonica)!! The lyrics are touching, hit on the depressing aspects of reality, and sadly funny with all the irony of human affairs.
I give it 5 stars FOR BEING DIFFERENT!!

masters of classical music.......2007-03-26
A nice collection for the classical listener. Great variety of composers and the music quality of the cds are very good.
A good basic collection.......2006-11-10
With selections from numerous composers, it is an easy way to familiarize oneself with some of the most popular classical works and excerpts. A pleasant listen for the initiated too.
An excellent introduction to classical music.......2006-10-18
This is an excellent introduction to classical music. Well performed and presented.
Very Beautiful!!!!!1.......2006-10-05
If you are a fan of classical music then you better get this set. Not only is it very cheap, 10 Discs for about 2$ per disk. Now where are you gonna find a deal like this. I actually found mine chaper, $20.00 even and the music is outstanding. If you had a very bad day and very stressed out, just put in one of these cds, lay down, dim down the lights and just relax. It really helped me out.
Still Stuck on Beethoven.......2006-08-22
I just recently started listening to classical music so I'm certainly not one to compare or critique the quality of this set. However, I do have a few comments...
My interest started in this genre of music because I'm researching my ancestry in Prussia and this is the music of those times. Never mind my ancestors were poor peasants who probably never got the chance to hear such wonderful music... when listening to these CDs, I'm taken back in time... to a royal court in Europe... to another place in time. The music is inspiring, relaxing, invigorating.
I have yet to listen to all the CD's in the set. I'm stuck on Beethoven! Wasn't he AWESOME!?!
I think this set is a wonderful introduction to classical music!!!!!
