5 out of 5 stars Lovely Instrumental.......2007-03-20

I love this one and Carolan's Cottage by Joemy Wilson.
Even someone who's never heard of the legendary Turlough O'Carolan will be captivated by this collection of his music. Joemy Wilson's flowing ripple of notes gives the proper lilt to the music on hammered dulcimer. Guitar, flute, violin, and celtic harp contribute but don't overwhelm the pure sound.
O'Carolan's music is always a treat and this album is a favorite of mine. I highly recommend it to all celtic music fans and for that matter, anyone who loves music.

5 out of 5 stars This cd is going to help you celebrate life!.......2002-10-07

I've had this tape in my collection for years, I played it so often, it broke, then I replaced it with the cd.

When I first bought it, I had moved from a sunny climate to a dreary rainy and foggy place, this music helped me through the sad times with it's uplifting, lilting sounds. The melody laughs out loud, and you can't help but to let your soul smile.

5 out of 5 stars This is mood-altering music.......2000-11-23

I have owned this album for more than a decade, and it remains one of my favorites. I find that listening to it helps me clear my mind and improve my mood - there is a joy in the melodies that is infectious. This is very engaging music, but be warned, it can be habit-forming.

5 out of 5 stars This is my favorite of all of Joemy Wilson's works........1999-01-20

I first heard Joemy Wilson play O'Carolan's music in 1987 at Christmas in July in Oceanside, CA. I had never heard of O'Carolan and was unfamiliar with the hammered dulcimer, but the bright music of this recording struck a chord with me. I bought my first Joemy Wilson tape that day and I was hooked. I went back the next year and bought 2 more, and the next year 3 more. I have since heard other artists perform O'Carolan's works, but no one has come close to Joemy. Of all her recordings, this is still my favorite. I am glad to see amazon.com carries her work.

Album Description

In 1983, Patrick Ball released the first record in his Celtic Harp series. Now, ten years and five releases later, he has completed his most personal work to date. Fiona is a collection of traditional songs that includes some of the most beautiful and haunting tunes of the Celtic world - and is named after Patrick Ball's new daughter, Fiona.

For many years, the Celtic harp, with its unique resonance and clear, bell-like sound was an important part of Celtic life, especially in Ireland and in France's Celtic province, Brittany. The few harps which survived into the 20th century, did so as museum pieces, and their incredibly large and varied repertoire began to sink into obscurity, too. Naturally, as musicians and listeners have rediscovered the beauty of these instruments, the old songs and laments have been rediscovered as well.

On Fiona, Ball includes two of Ireland's most enduring and memorable folk songs: She Moved Through the Fair, an oft recorded classic which can now finally be heard in its original form, and Brian Boru's March, an ancient tune marking the brief unification of Ireland in the 11th century. Traditional songs from Scotland and Brittany also appear, along with a work by Turlough O'Carolan, whose popular music has been a feature of each of Patrick Ball's six recordings for Celestial Harmonies/Fortuna. Ball's wire-strung harp is the focus of this recording, but the traditional Irish pipes, whistles, and fiddle provide an occasional complement on several pieces.

5 out of 5 stars More than just another Celtic harp album.......1999-12-09

I own a fair number of Celtic harp albums and have listened to more, including Patrick Ball's four previous albums. While almost all of it has been pleasant, this one is a real standout. Where many albums offer still more versions of over-familiar melodies, this one is striking in its originality. Where some performances give the impression of tinkling music boxes or technical expertise that is somehow boring, this one is riveting and evocative. Some purists may find it insufficiently traditional, but I found it beautifully imaginative. Unlike reviewers who preferred this musician's earlier albums, to me this is the most interesting and moving of them all. "Fiona" came out in 1993; I am hoping that Mr. Ball is near to producing another album. Given the progression through his earlier work, I can hardly wait to see what he does next.

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, but not my favorite.......1998-05-23

As always, Ball presents spirited virtuoso performances that elucidate traditional tunes and show off the nuances of the wire-strung Celtic harp. I like this album less than some of his previous ones because I think the material isn't as strong: he's a better performer than composer, and some of the traditional material strikes me as rather uninteresting compared with tunes he's recorded before. Still, it's a lovely album, and far stronger than some of the New Age fluff that passes itself off as "Celtic" music these days.

5 out of 5 stars Music Blew Me Away!.......2002-09-05

I recently had the opportunity to hear Aryeh at the Kings Mountain Art & Music Faire in Woodside, CA. I heard about 30 seconds of his live music and stepped up to buy one of his CD's. This one was recommended and I must admit this music does indeed possess special spiritual and spacial qualities. I knew I'd find the artist who would play the harp as it has always been associated- with heavenly sounds. This music is fabulous and is a bit of a departure from his previous more traditional Celtic influences. Although, I'm trying to find his Songs of Scandinavian CD through a regular source, and I'm not finding it. Don't pass this music up if you're looking for lift in your consciousness too.

5 out of 5 stars His music has the soul, all musician should provide to us........1999-12-12

When I listened to private sampler, copy of Frankfurter's harp from my best friend, I've started to order this CD before tape finished. Actually, this is the most beautiful celtic music album, I've ever listened. However, more than that, his music has the soul, which all musician should provide to listener. But, we can rarely get it. I think this CD is the treasure in my life. I want to encourage you to meet this finest album. At least, you can understand why I'm so happy that I'm writing this to you. I hope you will appreciate it, like I did to my friend for his kind introduction.

5 out of 5 stars Music for Dreamers and Lovers.......1999-12-08

The musical genius of Mr. Frankfurter weaves together the voices of harp, strings, and other instuments, in his own arrangements of classical melodies as well as original compositions. This music evokes what is best in all of us. Great for meditation, massage time, or rocking your toddler to sleep. Better than The Chieftains!

5 out of 5 stars The most gentle, luscious Celtic music I have EVER heard!.......1999-08-17

I just sent this email to Aryeh. It conveys so well how I feel about his music that I thought I'd share it here, too:

"I heard your harp as I walked towards Fisherman's Wharf recently on my very first visit to San Francisco, and I turned to my sister and said, "Where is that wonderful music coming from? Let's find it!" We followed our ears (and hearts) to Ghirardelli Square and watched and listened to you play your beautiful music. I was totally entranced. I have been in love with Celtic music for several years, and I own an extensive collection of Celtic music CDs and other "world" music. But your masterful playing of the harp moved me in a way I haven't felt before.

I bought "Lest the Harp Strings Unravel" that day, and I've listened to it at work and at home every day since I got back to Florida. It amazes me that I never tire of it, even if the same CD plays over and over again for 10 or 12 hours. Just hearing the gentle, luscious strains of your harp transports me back to the Bay and that gorgeous day in the City.

I think now that I must have more! I'll definitely be ordering more of your music - for myself and others. Thanks for playing it for us."

5 out of 5 stars Aryeh Frankfurter's album is serenly beautiful........1998-12-19

I own several of Aryeh's albums. His music is hauntingly beautiful. Of all my albums, his are my favorite. I can listen to them all day, day after day. I am currently purchasing this album for a dear friend and her newborn. I can think of no better music to refresh the mother and calm the infant, allowing them both to enter into a most beautiful musical world.
